"What do you mean we are under attack!?" Winston shouted, fear all over his voice. As if things weren't bad enough! Now seemingly out of nowhere, his kingdom was under attack.

His advisor had looked fearfully back at him. The outburst causing him to take a step back. He knew that the king was going through a tough time so he didn't hold it against him, but that didn't stop him from fearing him. If anything it made him more fearful. "Sir... It's the Southern Kingdom. King Fultz seemed to rally a bunch of men. Even coming into what seems to be an alliance with the Highlands. They are already at the castle walls! We weren't ready for such an assault! What do we do?"

Winston was awestruck. Frozen in fear. King Fultz? Had he heard about his Kingdom slowly falling apart? That couldn't be it. Why would the man attack? And after coming for dinner not too long ago! And an alliance with the Highlands!? That only spelled danger. That army had to be close to 30,000! While his army dropped from 5,000 to 4,300! They wouldn't be able to win. He had to warn his daughters. "Keep me protected for just a bit. I need to write two letters! Then deliver them to my daughters! After that get as many people to retreat. We cannot win this battle on this day, but as long as most of us survive, and as long as my daughters are around then we'll bounce back!"

With that said he quickly went to his desk to start writing letters for his daughters. Knowing full well that if the highlands were around, that assassins were after his head. And there was no way he'd survive.

The siege was going by much better than the king thought. The Empire soldiers weren't ready for him in the slightest. The citizens who wanted to rebel had taken the chance to invade themselves which worked out perfectly for the king's trained assassins courtesy of the Highlands. It was a slaughterhouse. Men vs boys. He felt like maybe he didn't need the Highlands help. Good thing he had sent a rear infantry after the King Henry's head. And soon if he invaded the Nothern Kingdom he would have the whole country. And if all went well he'd be able to take over other kingdoms.

Everything was falling into place, and quite easily. Nothing made the King happier than a complete victory. And he always lived by one motto when it came to wars.

There is no kill like overkill.

"Charge! Leave no soldier alive! Find the royal family and their servants and bring them to my feet!" He screamed with excitement. Nothing made him happier than seeing blood everywhere.

Finished.

The letters to both his kids were done and he had given it to his advisor. He was ready to accept his fate. He had deserved this after all. Somehow he had overlooked King Fultz and his love for bloodshed.

His wife always said that his downfall would be the Southern Kingdom if he remained to let them be.

And he always said that he would be ready if the were foolish enough to even think of facing his kingdom.

Now that it was happening he realized just how wrong he was. They were powerless! His soldiers weren't ready in the slightest. His people were helping the enemy. And his kingdom was now hanging by a thread. And his head would soon leave his body.

For him, he knew that today was his final day. That this day would be known as his misery. And that today would be remembered as one of the greatest sieges in history. Well, he better get ready for it.

Soon enough he moved his chair to the middle of the room, so he would be facing the door. He just sat there and thought.

And when he saw the door slowly open he put on the best grin he could and awaited his demise.

"Princess Kate! We're under attack!" Came a familiar voice to the female canine. Next to her was her trusted new servant. One who unlike any other peasant had known nothing of how to act like one. Which was kind of refreshing to the princess. At least it had made him easier to talk to.

Looking behind her she saw her father's advisor. His name she still did not know, as she never had the chance to talk to him herself. Though she knew she couldn't think of that right now. She more so had to worry about the news that was just known to her. "What!? By who?"

"M'lady, by The Southern Kingdom with an alliance from the Highlands. There is no time. Your father has given you this, you must escape through the underground tunnel, quickly!" He said throwing the paper-wrapped by a red ribbon with the Kingdoms insignia on it.

The sudden news left the princess in a state of panic, she couldn't think straight. They were being attacked!? By King Fultz! The Highlands were in alliance with them? How and why? What of her mother? Father? Or her sister and brother-in-law? What would happen to them?

Soon enough her thoughts were interrupted, as a hand grabbed her own and abruptly pulled her into a grasp, followed by a gentle and quiet voice, "I'm here for you princess. Everything will be fine. Now, where is the underground tunnel?"

Turning she saw Humphrey, who gave her a smile, a comforting one. Though she could sense how concerned he was. "There is one in my room. A secret passage opened by moving my bureau," her voice spoke before she could even think of the question. What just happened?

"Okay good," He responded as he picked her up, bridal style, causing a blush to form on her cheeks. Why? She had no idea. Maybe it was because she never got picked up like this before by a guy her age. All she knew is that even if she wanted to struggle she felt powerless to do so in his grasp.

Humphrey moved quickly through the castle to get to the princess's room. They could hear the sound of agony outside from the now very noticeable siege going on. They still had time before the castle was invaded, at least that's what they thought. There was no way in hell they would get into the castle so quickly... right?

He knew he couldn't think about it, if he did only the worst things would happen, all he had to think was how he was gonna protect the young princess and keep her safe, that was his job, his promise to the queen. Why she trusted him with that, he had no idea. Why trust such a responsibility to a new lowly servant? Why trust that ability to a slave? That was all he was anyway. Just a slave.

Soon enough they made it to her room, thankfully no one was anywhere near to stop them. They would get out of this without any problems. "Wait what about my mother and sister?" Came the quiet but very scared tone of the princess in his arms.

What would happen to them? Well based on what just happened, he would have to think that the king had given a letter to be delivered to the younger princess as well. So she would most likely be okay. But what of the queen? She was in no condition to run. She was barely in a condition to stand, she was absolutely bedridden.

She was gonna die. No doubt.

How was he to break the news? Kate was already very unstable. One more thing to add to her already a huge load of stress and anxiety and she would crumble. "Princess... We can't worry about them at the moment. You need to be safe. That is the number one priority," Dodge the question. A classic maneuver. And one that never worked.

She looked at him with wide eyes. Soon tears started to follow as he placed her on her bed. Quickly he moved to the bureau that moved with relative ease, as he noticed that the thing had been made on a rather interesting invention that allowed it to slide. "Come princess we must go," He said turning to her.

One good look at her made him stop in his tracks. She was broken. She knew what was to come of her mother and maybe even of her sister. Her crying was silent but the tears were very well present. She was a mess. After a few moments of her staring at the ground, she made a run for the door, only being slowed down by the dress she wore.

Humphrey in quick action ran after her and as she went to open the bedroom door he grabbed her by the arm and turned her. Just as she was about to scream at him to let her go he brought her in for a hug. She couldn't hold herself back any longer as she bawled into his chest. Her cries could barely be heard anywhere but in the room they were in. And as much as the young man wanted to pick her up and make a run for their exit he stayed and let her have this. She needed to let it out now, or it would mess with her later.

Speaking of which what would they do? What would their future hold? Where would they go? They would have to go into hiding. They would need a place to stay. Could he take her to his village? Did he even know the way there? Not from here, he did. Maybe if they made it past the border... into the Southern Kingdom. The heart and home of their enemy. Their choices were numbered. Extremely numbered...

Taking him out of his thoughts was a quiet mumble from the girl in his arms. "Thank you. I'm sorry I lost myself there... We should go,"

Letting her go he looked at her, sympathy written all over his face. "It's okay m'lady. And yes, we should go,"

"Go where?"

"I... I don't know,"

With that they ran off to the underground tunnel to escape, all the while they thought of where they would go.

King Fultz looked at the Kingdom he had conquered. And one that he conquered in just a single night. He grinned deviously as he looked at his captured victims. Winston the king, Eve the queen, and Garth the prince who married their youngest daughter. "Bring the prince into the carriage. And let me deal with the King and Queen,"

With a nod from his men, they left leaving just the king and his ax. And the two heads he'd aim to disconnect with glee that shivered any spine that saw his smile.

His love for death and bloodshed knew no bounds and his victims could only stare in horror at his wide smile. His heartless eyes. That would be the last thing they'd ever see before the ax came down.

Wow. What a chapter huh? What will happen to our protagonist? Will they be okay? Where will they go? Well hopefully all that will be answered soon and I'll see all you amazing people in the next chapter!
