The cold forest air ruffled the tabby she-cat's pelt, her breath creating small puffs of mist. Leaf-bare was never an easy time for any clan, the cold would chase off most prey, and the cold could be an issue at times. Leafpool's paws carried her gently out of ThunderClan camp, the nighttime stars carefully leading her to a small clearing. The pale tabby's ears twitched softly, observing a small lavender growing up near the shorter tufts of grass. Her jaws grasped the stem, pulling the plant as carefully as she could muster, severing it from the soft earth. The fact the plant had made it to Leaf-bare was quite the interesting feat, and Leafpool thought it would make the perfect gift for a certain someone that night. Now, she purred to herself, she only had to wait.
Stars shone brilliantly above the clearing, giving it a glow like no other spot in the forest at that time. A set of paws padding closer caught Leafpool's attention, her pelt bristling excitement, and a small hint of nervousness. Black fur slinked out from a nearby bush, and both sets of amber eyes met, glistening gently. The other cat, Nightcloud, stepped closer to the tabby female, revealing she had been carrying something with her the whole time. Leafpool strained slightly, finally seeing that in her mouth was a small kit, her kit to be exact. She looked up to the black she-cat with confusion in her eyes, watching Nightcloud carefully set her kit down and lay with him.
"He's not old enough to be left alone," Nightcloud started, "And I did not want to not show up without an explanation. Besides, you have a right to see him."
A hint of jealousy shone in Leafpool's eyes for a moment, thinking of how she couldn't spend time like this with her own kits, but the feeling subsided as Breezekit gave a soft mewl, snuggling against his mother's side for warmth.
"He's beautiful..." Leafpool purred gently, "I wish you could see mine..."
Nightcloud's ear twitched, giving a small nod of understanding. The other she-cat sat by her and her son, resting her chin upon her head. The two lay like this for as long as they could, until they had to part once more.
"Goodbye Nightcloud," Leafpool purred, "Goodbye Breezekit..."
"See you again, Leafpool..."
