Chapter Two - Welcome to Duel Academy

And Syrus learns that not all things are what they seem

It's been three days since the entrance exams and all the accepted applicants were on a helicopter heading to the island where the academy was built. As they were coming close to the island, the helicopter pilot spoke on the intercom. "Attention new Duel Academy students, if you look outside your windows you'll see your new home away from home." As he said this, most of the students climbed over to the windows to see the island with their new 'home'. The only one not looking out the window was Jaden, as she had been there when she was little, so she decided to just sleep until the helicopter transporting them arrived. "Now, now, no climbing over each other. I know everyone is excited, but everyone just sit down and fasten your seat belts. Next stop: Academy Island."

After everyone got off the helicopter, they headed off to a room with four tables - one was last names A-G, second was H-N, the third O-U, and the last was V-Z - to get their uniforms, dorm number, and PDA. After everyone got their things, they followed the teachers' directions and were led to a classroom with a giant screen at the front. As all the new students were lined up, the screen came on to show the chancellor of the academy; Chancellor Sheppard.

"Good morning and welcome my students. I'm Chancellor Sheppard, the Headmaster here, and you are the best and brightest duelists in the world" Sheppard welcomed them. Next to Syrus, Jaden was wearing the Slifer Red uniform and sleeping during the speech. "Now, get settled in at your assigned dorms. I'll think you'll find them quite comfortable, depending on how you ranked, of course" the man continued as he laughed at the end.

After he finished his speech, everyone left and either headed to their dorms, talked with their friends, or just explored the campus. Outside, Jaden and Syrus were playing a game, while sitting on one of the pedestals (have no clue what it's called so let's call it that.) "Well, I don't know about you Sy, but I'm glad I'm in the Slifer dorm" the brunette girl commented.

"Yeah, I'm not so sure. I mean, I heard the Slifer was at the bottom" the tiny bluenette replied, dejectedly. Just then, Bastion walked by in a Ra Yellow jacket. Jaden looked up when she saw him in the corner of her eye.

"Hey Bastion. I see you made it to Ra Yellow." The genius kid looked at her and smiled.

"Well if the yellow jacket didn't give it away, I don't know what did." The girl laughed as Bastion walked away.

"Well, see you around campus."

"See you." Bastion then walked away to the Ra dorms.

"Well then, Syrus, let's head over to our dorm." she said. Syrus and her got up and headed towards the Slifer dorms. As they arrived at their dorm, Syrus was looking at the building with surprise and discontentment.

"This isn't a dorm" the smaller of the two complained while looking at the building. "More like an outhouse with a deck."

"You've got to be joking. I mean, look at the amazing view of the sea" Jaden said while looking out at the sea. As she did so, she couldn't help but wonder how her family was doing. 'I hope they're doing alright, especially dad.' She turned around and walked to where Syrus was standing. She then turned and walked over to their dorm room. Jaden opened the door and said, "Well, looks like this is where we'll be staying." Syrus looked in with a frown.

"It's… a little small, don't you think?"

"But you're a small guy so there'll be enough room." Jaden looked around with a smile. "Anyway, I like it. This'll be a sweet place for our first year at the academy."

"Yeah. It's also pretty weird meeting at the entrance exam and then having the same dorm room. Do you think we were connected to each other in some ancient life, Jaden? You as a pharaoh and me a high priest."

"Mm, as much as that sounds cool and all, no."

"Well, it could be true… Never mind, what was my stupid mind thinking."

"Hey, don't be so hard on yourself. Guess we'll need to work on your self confidence while we're here. But first, we need some light in here" Jaden said as she opened the curtains.

"Hey! Those were closed for a reason" a voice from the top bunk said.

"Oh sorry."

"Ya, we didn't see you there."

"Well, can you see me now?" The person that sat up had a chubby face, really short hair, and an inverted Slifer Red uniform. He growled at the two, causing Syrus to scream and hold onto Jaden.

"Will you stop screaming? Who are you and what are you doing in my room?"

"Ah, sorry. My name's Jaden Yuki, and this little guy is Syrus Truesdale. We're your new roommates."

"You're new alright, so let me tell you how things work here." As Syrus asked a few things and the older boy explained everything, Jaden thought 'I already know how things work, but Syrus probably doesn't. I kinda feel bad for the little dude.' As he finished explaining, he said "Oh, I'm Chumley by the way."

After Chumley went back to his nap, Jaden and Syrus walked out of the building for a walk. As they were walking, Syrus sighed depressingly while slouching forward. "Come on Sy, don't tell me you're still sad at what Chumley said earlier."

"But he said we're at the bottom."

"Maybe, but I really like Slifer. He's actually my favorite god card" 'and I'm not just saying that because I own his card' "out of the three. And plus, he was Yugi Moto's first Egyptian God Card. So, whenever you feel sad about being a Slifer, just remember that he helped make Yugi the King of Games, and this rank will also help us become stronger" Jaden said as she pulled Syrus into a hug with his face right on her chest. As Syrus tried to push away from Jaden, he felt that her chest was bigger than a guy's, so he decided to squeeze it, resulting in Jaden squeaking with a blush appearing on her cheeks.

"Jaden… Why does your chest feel like a girl's?"

"Hmm? That's because I am one. I thought you knew that."

"Wait! You mean that you're a female and you're sharing a room with two guys? How are you alright with that?" Syrus exclaimed. As Jaden was about to respond, she stopped and turned to where the main building was and ran off. Syrus looked after her dumbfounded and then ran after her yelling at her to slow down.

As Syrus finally caught up with Jaden, he was breathing really hard and trying to get her to slow down. When she finally stopped, standing inside a room that had a duel arena.

"Ah, this place looks awesome," Jaden says while looking around. "How about you and me having a duel here." she asked Syrus. As she was talking, two Obelisk boys looked over at them.

"Are you sure we're allowed?"

"Ya, it's allowed. We're students here, so we can duel here.

"Wrong. This is the Obelisk Blue campus" The Obelisk with glasses said.

"That's right, and you Slifer Red rejects aren't welcome here. Check out the crest" the brunette said as he pointed towards the Obelisk crest on the wall. Jaden and Syrus turned to where they were pointing. Jaden sighed mentally, thinking 'those are all over the school dumb asses.' She turned back to them with a frown on her face.

"We're sorry. We were just looking around. We'll leave" Syrus apologized. "Come on Jaden. We're not supposed to be here" he said, pulling on the female Slifer's sleeve.

"We don't have to leave. Not as long as one of you duels me." The two gained surprised expressions.

"Hey, you're that kid," Taiyou said.

"Hey Chazz, that kid who beat Crowler is here" Raizou said while turning to someone in the stands. Jaden and Syrus turned and looked to see another Obelisk student. Chazz came forward and narrowed his eyes at the two Slifers.

"Oh, hey there. My name's Jaden," the female smiled. "And this is Syrus" she said, pointing to Syrus. "What was your name again?"

"His name's Chazz Princeton, and you better not forget it. He was the best duelist at Duel Prep School, so you better pay the proper respects, got that?" the glasses wearing Obelisk boy said.

"Yeah, he's going to be the future King of Games. The best duelist in the world." Jaden crossed her arms with a frown.

"Impossible."

"Say what?"

"To gain the title of King of Games, you need to first beat the current King of Games, and that would be, still to this day, Yugi Motou. And I'll be the first to do it." As Jaden said that, the two laughed.

"You, a Slifer Slacker, becoming the King of Games? That'll be the day."

"Can it you two" Chazz finally spoke up. "Maybe he can do it. After all he did beat Crowler, and that legendary rare monster of his. I suppose it takes some skill to pull that off."

"You've got that right" It also helps that I've gone up against dad's Blue Eyes as well.

"Or was it just luck? I say we find out right now."

"Bring it." As the two stared each other down, a female Obelisk, Alexis Rhodes, came in.

"Well this certainly is a motley crew" Alexis said.

"Whoa, who is that?" Syrus asked dazely, blushing slightly.

"Hey Alexis" Chazz purred seductively. "Come to see me wipe the floor with my new friend Jaden."

"No, I came to remind you that you're late for the Obelisk Welcome Dinner."

"Oh yeah, come on guys" Chazz ordered and the three boys left. After the three left, Alexis turned to Jaden and Syrus.

"Sorry if Chazz rubbed you the wrong way. Not all of us Obelisks aren't like that, he's just a jerk. Especially with Slifers."

"That's alright. Guys like them don't really bother me" Jaden stated, placing her arms behind her back. Besides, the only reason Chazz is even in Obelisk is because of his connections.

"Well, okay then" Alexis said with a sigh. "Anyway, you two should head on back, too. The Slifer Welcome Dinner should be starting soon as well."

"Oh, right. Thanks for reminding us…" Jaden trailed off.

"Alexis, Alexis Rhodes. And your's?"

"Jaden Yuki. See you around, Alexis." She then turned and walked out, the blue haired Slifer following her .

Later that night, as Jaden and Syrus were drinking some green tea, the female's PDA went off. Jaden grabbed it off her belt and it started to play a message from Chazz. "Hey Slifer Slacker, don't think you're off the hook. Tonight, meet me at midnight for our duel. Oh, and why don't we make it interesting? Whoever wins, gets the loser's best card."

"Well, guess I get to duel Chazz after all," Jaden said with a smirk. Chumley looked down at his roommates and then turned back over. "Come on Sy, let's go."

Later, as the two left, Professor Banner showed up with his cat in his arms.

"Where do you two think you're going at this time of night?" The two explained what was happening and Banner looked at the female. "And what would your father say about this, Miss Yuki." Jaden looked at the weird man and frowned.

"He'd probably scold me and send me back to my room…" As Jaden realized what the professor was saying, her eyes grew wider. "Please don't tell him. My dad would pull me out and never let me come back." Banner hummed and stroked Pharaoh's fur.

"Alright, but don't get caught or I'll have to tell him about this." Jaden nodded and her and Syrus ran off to the main building.

"Well, well, well, he shows." Chazz said when the two Slifers arrived.

"Obviously, there was no way I was going to miss this" the only female in the room said as she stepped up to the stadium.

"Time to find out if beating Dr. Crowler was a fluke, or a fact."

"Yeah, well we're going to find out something else too. If you really have it in you to be the King of Games."

"Yeah, yeah, just make sure you have your best card ready to hand over."

No way I'm handing over my best card, Jaden thought as Slifer popped into her head. "Same goes to you."

"Duel!" Each of them pulled five cards to start with.

"Alright, slacker," Chazz said, drawing his first card, which was Chthonian Polymer. He looked at his cards making a decision. "For my first move, I summon Reborn Zombie in defense mode. I'll also place one card face down."

"Alright. Guess that's one way to start a duel" Jaden muttered drawing Elemental Hero Avian. Jaden looked at her hand, noticing that she had Elemental Hero Burstinatrix and Polymerization as well. Winged Kuriboh also made his presence known. Hey Winged Kuriboh maybe I'll play you later, but first… "I'll play Polymerization, fusing Avian and Burstinatrix to summon Elemental Hero Flame Wingman!"

"I was hoping you would."

"And why's that?"

"Because, I activate Chthonian Polymer."

"You've got to be kidding me," Jaden muttered to herself. Off on the sidelines, Syrus was wondering what Chazz's trap did while Alexis arrived and explained what the trap did to Syrus.

"I sacrifice Reborn Zombie to gain control of your Wingman." As the zombie disappeared from the field, the female duelist's monster flew over to Chazz's side of the field. As Chazz antagonized Jaden, she started thinking of what to play next.

"Alright, I summon Elemental Hero Clayman in defense mode. I'll end my turn."

"Fine then. Rise, Chthonian Soldier. And now, Flame Wingman, attack with skydive scorcher. And now that he's destroyed your monster, you take damage equal to your destroyed monster's attack. And I'm not done yet. Chthonian Soldier, attack." After the two attacks, Jaden's life points went down to 2000. "Are you starting to see your place here at the academy yet, slacker? Maybe you were someone back home, but here, you're nothing. Anyway, I'll end my turn with a face down. Make your move, Slifer Slacker."

"Alrighty then, I draw. For my first move, I summon Elemental Hero Sparkman. Now, attack Chthonian Soldier." When Chazz's monster was destroyed, he took 400 points of damage. Yes! As Jaden was celebrating in her head, the sword from the monster flung up and went right through her, causing her to also take 400 points of damage. What the hell?

"How do you like my Soldier's effect? When he's sent to the graveyard from battle, you take the same amount of damage as I did."

"Grr. This isn't over yet. I throw down one face down and end my turn."

"Hmph, play what you like. My next attack will end this duel and your best card will then be all mine. And it's happening right now. Flame Wingman, finish him off."

"Not so fast! I activate Mirror Gate!"

"What?"

"That means Jaden is still in this game. Mirror Gate causes two monsters to switch which sides they're on, meaning that Flame Wingman and Sparkman switch places, causing Chazz to take the damage" Alexis explained.

"That means Chazz's life points go down to 1500!" Syrus exclaimed.

"Fine than! I play the spell card Chthonian Blast. Since you destroyed a monster on my side of the field, I get to destroy one of your's, and you take damage equal to half of its attack points." Due to Chazz's move, the female duelist's life points went down to 550, and left her field wide open. "Now, I play the trap, Call of the Haunted. Which allows me to summon one monster from my graveyard. I call on Inferno Warrior. But he won't stay around for long, because I'm going to sacrifice him and summon Mefist the Infernal General."

"Not bad, but it'll take a lot more than that to knock me down."

"Even so, your lame monsters aren't going to get you out of this, slacker." Jaden looked at Chazz and then turned her attention to Winged Kuriboh when he called. Jaden smiled and reassured her friend that she knew he was wrong. Jaden drew her card and smirked. Just as Jaden was about to play it, Alexis and Syrus heard footsteps down the hall, alerting them of campus security.

"Uh, guys we've got company. Campus security. If they find us in here, we'll get seriously busted," Alexis exclaimed, alarming Syrus.

"What! Why?" Syrus asked.

"Because it's against the rules Sy. I totally forgot about that, but I'm sure Chazz didn't, did you?" Jaden explained with a serious expression on her normally smiling face.

"That's right, so we've got to go, and now."

"Well, slacker, I guess you lucked out this time."

"If anyone lucked out, it's you Princeton," the female stated, turning around and leaving with Alexis and Syrus.

"Sorry you didn't get to finish your duel with Chazz,"Alexis apologized.

"It's alright. I already know how the duel would have ended."

"Oh? And how is that?"

"Simple, with me drawing Monster Reborn," Jaden explained, showing the card she had just drawn. "I would have special summoned Flame Wingman back to the field. I would have then attacked Mefist, bringing Chazz's life points down to 1200 with the battle damage, and then Wingman ability would have wiped out his remaining life points."

"Ah."

"Well, see you around Alexis. Come on Sy, let's get back to our dorms," Jaden called, heading back to the dorms.

"Ah, wait a sec,"the young Truesdale exclaimed, running to catch up with the female. As Alexis watched them walk away, she couldn't help but smirk and think this was going to be one interesting year.

Sooo, I know it's been nearly two years since I updated, but I've been dealing with my high school life. I'm apart of a program called the IB (International Baccalaureate) program, which means I have to stay on top of my studies. But, because of COVID-19, I now have some more time to work on some personal projects. Hopefully, I'll update more often, but because we're going to e-learning till at least the end April, I have no clue what my teachers will throw at me. Anyway, I'd like to thank everyone who's supported this story, despite it talking nearly two years, and I hope you'll keep supporting me! Stay safe and healthy everyone!
