This is the full version of a drabble I wrote for the drabble night event on Discord, for the prompt 'city lights'. It was written in about ten minutes with minimal editing, but I hope you enjoy anyways!

The city is iridescent. It glistens like oil under the silver sheet of rain, a symphony of lights blurred into a watercolour sky, everything colliding in a shifting kaleidoscope of colour and noise and hope. Toris sees himself in the glimmer of the street; ruffled hair, eyeliner smudged beneath shining eyes, a smile so wide it opens his heart for the world to see. Feliks leans into him, tired from running and laughing through vibrant crowds. His rainbow flag hangs lopsided from his shoulders, his paint smudged across his cheeks, his face soft with contented sleepiness. He has never looked more beautiful.

The streets are emptying now. Small groups linger on street corners, unwilling to leave the air still charged with exhilaration, but Toris takes Feliks' hand in his and leads him to the Subway, gently guides him down the steps to the platform. They sit on the cold stone floor to wait. Toris sits with his back to the wall, and Feliks sits in his lap, tucks his head under his chin in a soft gesture of trust and warmth, so close that Toris can smell the candyfloss and cherry lip gloss and smoke. They wouldn't normally dare to do this, but today is different.

When the train roars in, it is crowded and noisy and full of bodies and sweat and happiness. There is only one seat left but they fit into it perfectly, Feliks on Toris' lap, their legs tangled together and their hands intertwined. The other passengers smile and say how cute they are, and Feliks glows.

I love him, Toris realises with startling clarity. It frightens him, but in the sweetest and most perfect way, like a wedding or a childbirth or… Feliks. Only Feliks could make him feel like this. He should tell him, perhaps, but not now. For now, he is content to just hold him in his arms and savour the moment, as the train carries them home under a constellation of city lights.

Fin.
