It was a perfectly normal day at Havenfield. Sophie Foster was sitting on her bed, boredom written all over her face. Her pet imp, Iggy, curled up against her, snoring like the loudest motorcycle in the world as she pet him. School wasn't for another week or so and all her friends were busy for the week. Everyone but Fitz, who she was planning on seeing today. Unfortunately, Biana had conviently left to go shopping just as Fitz hailed Sophie on her Imparter, so Sophie had to deal with the adorable boy on her own.

What am I going to do? Sophie groaned inwardly. She couldn't hide her secret forever. Fitz may have been oblivious to her crush on him, but Sophie knew he wasn't stupid. He was bound to notice something eventually. Why not just tell him how she felt and get it over with already so they can truly be Cognates?

"I'm going to do it," Sophie told herself firmly, standing up confidently. "I'm going to tell him my secret. My darkest, deadliest secret of all that will probably ruin our friendship forever."

The door opened and Edaline walked in on Sophie's pep talk. "Sophie, who are you talking to?" she asked, clearly confused by the scene before her of her adopted daughter posing as if she were a courageous warrior walking into battle.

Sophie's face burned in embarrassment. "Um, I'm going over to Everglen now," she mumbled, walking out the door without waiting for a reply.

"Hey, Sophie!"

Her heart fluttered when Sophie saw her teal-eyed partner smiling at her from the open, glistening gates of Everglen. Her mouth suddenly felt dry. "H-H-Hey, Fitzy." So much for that confidence, she thought drearily. How was she going to survive this? What if he rejected her?

Fitz made a face. "Since when did you call me Fitzy? Is Keefe rubbing off on you?"

"NO!" Sophie replied a little too quickly. She coughed awkwardly. "It was an accident."

He flashed his beautiful, movie-worthy smile. "I understand. Biana calls me Fitzroy all the time." He ran a hand through his perfect dark hair. "Although, that's usually when she's mad."

Was that a bad sign? That he was comparing her to Biana?

Taking in a deep breath, Sophie said the words she had been dreading to say for months. "Can we do some Cognate training? I-I need to tell you something."

I'm sorry if this chapter was really short. I'm not really used to writing long chapters.

I do not own Keeper of the Lost Cities, nor do I own the characters mentioned. It is all owned by Shannon Messenger. I'm just a fanfiction writer obsessed with Sofitz. Until the next chapter, peace out.
