Disclaimer: I do not own the existing characters that we know and love from Grimm, although I do take ownership over the new characters

A/N: I didn't want to use the same Wesen that we know from the show, I thought that I'd introduce a couple of new ones (don't forget to let me know your thoughts)

Chapter 16

"She'll be out of surgery soon, Mrs Burkhardt- we will know where we stand when she wakes up." The doctor nodded apologetically to Adalind before moving onto the next room where their next patient was waiting.

Sean Renard sat in the chair beside Kelly, trying to remain calm in the situation. Knowing his daughter had suffered a serious fall had made him agitated and incredibly short with those around him.

"I should have done something," Kelly whispered. "I could have done more."

Down the corridor, Nick started to weave his way towards them, pulling Adalind into a weepy embrace. He told her it was going to be okay and simply comforted the distressed mother.

The hospital bustled with doctors, patients and nurses, creating a continuous flow of moving traffic. There was no way of knowing how long it would be before Diana would be out of surgery following the fall. Her partner, Detective Montoya, was a couple of floors up in recuperation.

The police were eager to close everything off, but the events that took place had worried the involved parties to the core. It transpired that the Siegbarste had drowned a Dämonfeuer in the bathtub of the room. Two wardens of the Sentinel Group. Little did they know, only one warden remained now. In an effort to make everything neat and tidy, Nick made Kelly promise to say that Diana pulled the trigger on the Siegbarste before being shoved over the edge of the walkway.

"Diana!" Adalind exclaimed quietly when her daughter's bed was pushed into a nearby room. "Thank god she's okay."

Renard walked into the room with Adalind, watching as the nurses made Diana comfortable. The blonde's face was lightly bruised on the right cheek and to the untrained eye, there was nothing else wrong with her.

"Diana will be fine, Adalind. All we can do is wait. You go home and get some sleep. I'll stay here and let you know as soon as she wakes up," Renard said, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Even if it's a finger twitch I'll let you know."

Nick nodded in agreement, suggesting that he would bring the car around for her. Only, when he went to leave, Renard followed him onto the corridor asking for a quick word.

"What do you know about Kristoff DeLuca?" Renard asked sternly, registering the blatant look on Nicks face that told more than he needed to know. "Perhaps a little honesty would be needed. The man nearly tried to brand me, Nick.

"He's part of an organisation called the Sentinel Group."

"And? Come on, that much I know."

Nick paused until some people passed by and we're out of earshot as they hovered in the doorway. "The Sentinel Group have this radical view that the Wesen population should rule our world and the Kehrseite need to be put in their place."

"DeLuca made a comment about his wardens that would be in charge of the districts in Portland. It just so happens that two of them are dead and one was reported missing- when were you going to inform me of this?"

"If you were the captain at my precinct, then I would have, but you're not, so I didn't."

Adalind murmured to Nick, saying that she wanted to go home on the promise that Sean would call if anything changed with Diana. It also didn't help that it was the middle of the week and Kelly had school.

"We'll talk later, Nick..." Renard said, walking back into the patient's room in a rather ominous tone.

Hannah watched Quinn eat breakfast before they were set to leave the house. She was concerned for her sister and wanted to look out for her. The Erosmius' charm still had its clutches on Quinn, begging for her to reunite with April.

But none of them knew where April Delaney was - originally they had suspected that she had been at the apartment block where Aurelia and Peter had been found. Only she wasn't.

So where was April? Hannah thought to herself, following Quinn out the door where Kelly was patiently waiting.

"Morning Quinn- hey Hannah."

Hannah shut the door, turning the key in the lock. "Kelly, what are you doing here? You should be at the hospital with Diana..." Hannah embraced the young Grimm tightly, kissing his cheek. "Are you sure you want to come to school?"

"Well it's the Fall Ball tonight. I thought I should show my face at school. You have to take the good with the bad as my parents say."

The pair walked behind April, discussing the recent Wesen issues that had occurred. The vampiric Wesen that had been incinerated by the dämonfeuer and the Erosmius Wesen was in Kristoff DeLuca's clutches, dead or alive? Kelly asked Hannah if she knew the location of the orb April had brought back through Death's Door. Another question they didn't know the answer to.

Except the Fall Ball was about to be an icy ordeal with the answers to some of their questions.

"Mum's messaged- Diana's still comatose. The doctors are hoping she'll wake up soon," Kelly mumbled, his back to his locker, beside the triplets who glanced between one another. "I was stupid, I shouldn't have been there. At the compound."

Hannah clapped her hands on either side of his face. "Hey, hey- no. Enough of that chat Kelly. You are not to blame. It was not your fault. Do not tell yourself that it was."

Noah nodded. "Hannah's right, mate. Knock it off."

A pair of hands covered Noah's eyes playfully. "Guess who?" a sweet soft voice asked.

"Is it my date for this evening?" Noah questioned, turning to look at Megan grinning at him. "I'll pick you up at seven tonight?"

"Seven on the dot. No later than that please. And I'll be wearing a red dress." Megan bounced on her tiptoes with a ring binder clutched to her chest. "See you guys later!"

Noah moved towards Hannah who seemed more alert than Quinn. "Why did she tell me her dress was red?"

His sister rolled her dark eyes. "Because she might want you to match with her." Hannah opened up her locker, switching some textbooks and files between her bag. "What were you thinking of wearing to the Fall Ball?"

"I was going to wear my grey trousers and jacket..."

"Then you wear a red accent and hope it matches." Hannah squeezed her arm. "I'll help you pick out a tie tonight. I got your back Noah. Right, see you tonight Kelly. Come on Quinn, let's get you home."

As the sisters walked away, the two boys could hear Quinn ask where April was. Kelly frowned slightly, unsure about what to do next. He scratched the back of his head in uncertainty. Unless the Erosmius and Kristoff DeLuca could be found, April would never come back.

Until that moment came, Kelly told himself that it would have to be something his dad would deal with. It was all in the hope that the young Grimm could enjoy the Fall Ball. His first public school event with Hannah as his plus one. Originally, he and the three Monroes would always just attend these events together before pairing off into boys and girls.

Kelly exhaled slowly at the entrance to the school. He was nervous about the dance, and not before of the potentially arrival of an Erosmius. Everything had been up in the air and he noticed some of his fellow students gossiping about him. The incident in the corridor with Hannah and Wheeler had been on everyone's lips.

'How can Kelly just let that happen?'

'If I were him, I'd have broken up with her on the spot.'

'You wouldn't see me doing to you what Hannah did to Kelly. She didn't even seem to care.'

The words weren't nice, and Kelly didn't care when people were talking about him, but it made his blood boil did when their words focused on Hannah. A frown was shot in the direction of the gossipers.

"Kelly!" Hannah exclaimed, climbing out the car and pulling him into a tight embrace. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," he whispered over her shoulder. "It's all fine, trust me."

Noah was next out the car and extended his hand to Megan. "Sorry you couldn't come with us, Kel. We had a bit of a full car and you know what the beetle's like."

The young Grimm shook his head, dismissing the problem. "I got to talk to you about something later though, after this one's done with dancing." He put an arm around Hannah's waist, smiling at the girl. "You look great, by the way."

Hannah narrowed her eyes. "Was that a compliment, Kelly Burkhardt?"

"Oh stop it- I do compliment you." Kelly led her into the hall, entering with surprise at the sparkly transformation. "Why don't I get us a drink first?"

Noah picked out Kelly and pulled him to a faraway corner of the hall, eager to know what the discussion was going to be about. When the grimm didn't come out with it, Noah immediately assumed the worst.

"Kel- if this is your way of telling me that you don't know if you want to continue going out with my sister? Because you know the deal. I warned you that if you ever hurt my sister, that I'd come for you. It's bad enough that you managed to enchant both my sisters, but now-"

"No!" Kelly exclaimed, punching Noah in the stomach playfully. "It's not that. I need your help because I think I might have just cracked open the Erosmius case. I've requested their presence here."

"Who's presence? You asked who to come to our school dance?"

"April and the erosmius, which in turn means Kristoff DeLuca."

"Are you insane?" Noah asked, helping himself to a couple of cups. "You invited a freaking Mauvais Dentes to our school- are you out of your mind? That's so irresponsible."

The pair weave their way across the hall towards Megan and the Monroe girls. There's a tenseness between them that they try to disguise. Hannah saw the act for what it was and it brought a shiver to her spine. Something was being planned without her knowledge.

"Thanks," she murmured, taking a glass from her boyfriend. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say that you two were planning something. So out with it and tell me what stupid, idiotic thing you have set in motion." She pulled at her strapless dress, making sure her modesty was still intact. "Don't give me the silent treatment, I know what you're like by now. You can't hide it from me. So out with it."

Neither boy said anything, not even when Megan started to question it. Hannah threw her spare hand in the air in frustration before excusing herself from the hall. Quinn tried to call her triplet sister back, but it was too late. Kelly and Noah stopped her from going anywhere and tole Megan they'd be right back.

"Kelly Burkhardt... What a pleasure!" a loud voice boomed down the corridor they walked onto. "Don't look so worried – you did ask me to come here after all. What did you expect to happen? I couldn't just ignore your invitation, could I?"

Kristoff DeLuca was wearing yet another suit with a clashing coloured silk tie. He stood confidently under the harsh lighting, smiling at the students skipping by, eager to get on the dance floor.

Noah could feel his heart racing. This felt like a moment where Kristoff might out him as the last warden standing. The businessman had been coercing him into doing more tasks for the Sentinels in preparation of the Blood Moon. He didn't say a word, but he could see from the look in the man's eyes that there was about to be a big problem.

"Kelly..." Noah whispered, trying to intervene quickly. "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea. Diana's in the hospital. Your dad is with your- well whatever Renard is to you. There's no one else to help us."

"So we help ourselves. By bartering with what he wants..." Kelly replied, embracing a dark smile that was pulling at his cheek muscles. "Don't look so worried, it's all under control."

It was not under control.
