1st December
A considerable layer of snow had enveloped Edoras like a thick blanket. Winter's first frost failed to keep many a citizen on their feet as the streets were paved with glossy ice with an innocent dusting of snow on top. Although the Rohirrim were quite used to the season's low temperatures, this year was in many ways quite exceptional. Consequently, the crisp cold remained uninviting for many, so if there was a quick exchange, it was being kept short and to the point. Yet no one failed to discuss the highly anticipated Yule celebrations that were to take place in twenty-one days.
When the first ominous crates and parcels arrived at the steps of Meduseld, gossip had spread like wildfire about its contents and use. By midday, whispers were circulating that a firework of epic proportions would be carried out by an army of dwarfs. Others swore on their honour or respectively their mother that they had seen exotic ales and wines being stored in the cellars which were supposed to be used for fountains. Although their new queen had remained silent regarding these interesting developments, many had sworn they had seen a mischievous smile appearing on her face for a fleeting moment. But certainly, no one had expected what was about to come next...
Happy December, dear readers :) I've set this up like a challenge for myself to post every day until 21 December. This year, the winter solstice will take place on 21 Dec., so I thought this to be a better fit than 24 days of Advent/ Christmas. (Keeping it real.) Let me know what you think and enjoy ;)
