As he clutched the glass of whiskey in his hand, Elijah looked over the compound, reflecting on the last couple of months.

Peace had been brought to the city of New Orleans under his brother's reign, and in Elijah's opinion, it was long overdue.

Even before Mikael had burned the city to cinders, there had still been individuals that had wanted Klaus out of power, however, it seemed now everyone had come to an understanding.

At last, each supernatural sector and the humans were finally honouring the peace pact Elijah had come up with. While the tensions that had once flowed between Hayley and Klaus were no longer, the two finally coming to an agreement with Hope's custody.

However, Elijah couldn't help but worry how long the tranquillity would last.

It seemed every time the situation at hand settled, another one arose, like a rocky wave followed by a catastrophic tsunami.

Before he could ponder anymore on the matter, soft, delicate footsteps caught his attention. Someone was approaching the front door. By the sounds of the delicate footing, Elijah assumed it was a young woman.

Intrigued, Elijah placed his glass down on the surface of the balcony, not many would dare approach their door, especially so late at night. This person, this assumed young woman, was either suicidal or extremely stupid. Perhaps even both.

She was fortunate that it in fact him awake in the compound and not Niklaus or Kol. Or even Bekah, everyone knew the blonde was extremely cranky if one dared interrupt her beauty sleep, Kol knew this more than anyone.

With no rush, Elijah made his way down the stairs as someone knocked on the door with a force that wasn't entirely human.

thud

thud

thud

Intrigued and not at all daunted, Elijah opened the wooden door, surprise coating his features when he noticed it was in fact a young girl.

Bright red hair tumbled down her shoulders and she seemed to be wearing a pair of short pyjamas, while her feet were bare. Her knuckles seemed to be heavily bleeding from how hard she had pounded on the door, Elijah could faintly see splinters of wood sticking out her crimson knuckles.

Concerned for the girl more than anything, Elijah pulled his handkerchief out of his pocket for the girl's wounds, however, before he could ask if the young girl needed help of some sort, he was slammed back into the staircase of the compound.

A piercing scream left her lips, a sound like no other.

The ground seemed to tremble beneath them as the chandelier swayed side to side before crashing to the ground in front of them, landing beside his disregarded handkerchief.

He couldn't think straight, all he knew was that he wanted the noise to stop, he needed it to stop.

Elijah's hands flew to his ears, desperately trying to block the shrill wail out that pounded at his skull, his fingers being coated with a red substance that was no doubt his blood.

Suddenly stopping, the girl's facial expression was blank as she began to sway on her feet unsteadily.

Elijah took a moment to regain his composure, his hands pulling away from his bleeding ears as he pulled himself up from the last step of the staircase.

Gripping the bannister for support, Elijah warily eyed the unconscious girl as he dusted off his suit as an annoyed Klaus appeared beside him.

Just like him, blood ran down each side of Klaus' face, from ear to neck while he scowled at the pile of pale limbs and red hair.

"What the bloody hell was that?"
