It's been a while peeps! I know I'm not the only one left sad and wanting more by Lucifer's season four, so I've taken up asking for prompts/answering them! I haven't written fanfic in a while so forgive me if I'm rusty.
Chloe sighs, truly content and - dare she say it - happy for the first time in a while. Don't get her wrong, she loves her life and knows she's luckier than most, even without the Devil himself as her lover, but she didn't think she'd ever feel this way again. Not after watching him leave her for what felt like the thousandth time. She pushes the thoughts of that good-bye away and refocuses on Lucifer's head resting on her bare chest, the way the stubble almost tickles her skin as he nuzzles closer. Her fingers lace through his hair, provoking a low hum.
"I could get used to this, Detective." His voice is a lazy murmur, so soft she almost misses it. Lucifer props himself up on an elbow, his eyes drifting to hers as he brushes a lock of hair behind her ear.
"Please do." Though she tries not to linger on their good-byes, she can't help but dread the next time he has to leave. The next time the demons get rowdy. His last absence had lasted almost four months. "Then maybe you'll stick around longer."
Lucifer's eyes - always so expressive - reflect the same longing she feels.
"If I could stay forever, I would. You know that, Chloe."
"I know." And not for the first time, she wishes she was more irresponsible. Wishes Lucifer's newfound sense of duty was more lax. But as soon as the selfish thoughts come, they're gone. She's not worth the end of the world.
She takes his hand, noticing that - though he's completely naked otherwise - he's still wearing his ring. Come to think of it, she's never seen him without it.
"Can I see?" She moves to touch the ring, almost expecting him to resist. Though she knows everything about him by now, she's not sure about the ring's significance. Chloe's surprised when he hands it over. It's entirely too big for her, but she fiddles with it anyway, moving it from finger to finger as she marvels at its warmth. "It's so warm."
"Yes, it was forged in Hell. A gift from dear old Dad when he sent me to rule it." Lucifer shifts to lie on his back.
"God gave it to you?" Suddenly she feels like a child playing with something very valuable and liable to break in her hands. Sitting up, Chloe moves to place it back on his hand.
Lucifer chuckles. "Yes, but there's no need to panic."
"But God gave it to you. I just-" She puts it back on his finger. "Don't want to break it. Or accidentally trigger magic. Or something." Amenadiel had told her about his necklace, about the blade. Ever since then she's been very wary of all things celestial-made.
"Other than having been forged in Hell, there's nothing supernatural about it. Not that I know of anyway." He removes it before reaching for Chloe's hand. "Maybe you should hold onto it."
"What?"
"It can join the bullet around your neck." He gestures to the trinket against her skin. She never takes it off anymore.
"I couldn't-"
"Please." He places the ring in her palm, closing her hand with his. "So when I'm gone, you'll have a part of me with you."
Though Lucifer's powers don't work on her, she finds it extremely difficult to deny him when he looks at her like that. His eyes lock onto hers, pleading.
"Okay." She smiles, using her free hand to caress the side of his face. "I'll hold onto it. If only as collateral. So you'll always have a reason to come back."
"My dear Detective," Lucifer pulls her in, his lips inching toward hers. "You're all the reason I need."
As always, reviews & comments welcome!
