NORAD - Alternate Command Center, Cheyenne Mountain
The commotion caused the ranking officer to enter the room filled with computer stations and perturbed young men. As the Major entered some of the men came to attention, many others were still caught up with the startling event.
The Major bellowed at the disorderly young men "Would someone please tell me what the hell just happened?"
The center of attention was a wide eyed young lieutenant. His breathing was raspy and his heart was thumping in his chest, obviously in a state of shock. He looked at his senior officer and said "I don't know, there was this flash of light."
"We saw that." many of the men responded.
"Okay that's good. I was afraid I was having a stroke."
"And" the Major prompted.
"I was standing there looking at the Earth."
"Lieutenant, have you been…" The Major was very angry.
The young man went on as if he hadn't heard the Major. "I heard something and I turned around. I was in a big metal room, big. And there were… honest I'm not lying and I wasn't drinking"
"Go on lieutenant." the Major was getting testier.
"There were...ah... aliens."
"Did this man fall and hit his head?" The Major asked.
There was a chorus of 'No Sir'. They might play practical jokes on one another but he didn't think they had the nerve to play one on him and the soldier looked petrified.
"Continue"
"They were the little green men...but they were gray. Big eyes, toothpick arms, maybe about 4 feet high. It kept saying something to me...I couldn't understand it. The language was kinda sing songy, chirpy like. I think it was getting angry because I couldn't understand it."
The Major turned to a man who was laughing. "Is this a joke? Cause if it a damned joke I'll bust every damned one of you."
Again a chorus of 'No Sir'.
"How did you know that it knew that you couldn't understand it?" The Major asked. He wasn't sure his sentence made any sense.
"It was waving its arms around and chirping louder." The poor lieutenant was shaking recounting the story.
"Then another of them chirped at the first one and he slapped something on my ear and I could understand it."
"Well man, what did it say?"
" 'This is important Colonel O'Neill.' And I said 'I'm Lieutenant Owen Neal'. Then one of them said to the other I was the wrong O'Neill. And a flash of light and I was back here."
The Major shook his head and left to report the bizarre event.
The tale went up the chain of command. Each level telling the level below to ignore the ridiculous story and never speak of it again.
The base commander, however, did get on the phone to the secret base located in the floors below. "George, what in tarnation are you people doing down there?"
