Ok, so this is literally my first time actually writing something. I'm more than willing to accept any and all forms of constructive criticism. Sorry if this isn't up to your liking.

This story will be a retelling of the Kanto journey based on the FireRed and LeafGreen games. I might continue to the other regions, but no promises. I'll try to find a way to put as many major characters as I can from both franchises.

Chapter One: The time has come!

"Mason! Mason!" Martha Pines called up to her 12 year old son.

"Don't tell me he stayed up all night again," her husband, Matthew, mumbled. He sat at the dining table, newspaper opened and ready.

"You know how he is. He can't help but stay up when he's excited. And why wouldn't he be? He gets to choose his very first pokemon today." Martha smiled at her husband, before calling back up the stairs. "Mason!"

"Yes, but the reason he gets his pokemon today and not last year is because he stayed up late. You'd think he would've learned by now." Matthew grumbled. Though Mason and his twin sister Mabel had the opportunity to get their first pokemon last year, Mason overslept, and there was only one pokemon left when the twins arrived. Since Mabel was the older of the two, she ended up receiving the remaining Pokemon and left before Mason.

"Mason! Mason!" Martha called.

"That's it." Matthew got up from his chair and walked up the stairs to his son's bedroom. Going up, he saw that Mason was indeed asleep.

"Mason," Matthew walked over and yanked the blankets off of his son, sending him tumbling to the floor.

"Ack!" Mason scrambled to his feet, yelping. "I'm up! I'm up!"

"Congratulations!" Matthew replied sarcastically. "Now get dressed. You have 10 minutes before you're late. Again."

"Right, 10 minutes. Okay." Mason yawned. Matthew walked back down the stairs, stopping halfway.

"3, 2, 1," he muttered.

"Oh shoot! I only have 10 minutes!" Mason yelped. The floor shook as he rushed around, pulling on his pants and shoes, and just barely managing to avoid crashing into his tv. Pulling his shirt over his head, Mason flew down the stairs, but tripped and crashed into the wall.

"Mason! Are you okay?" Martha called worryingly.

"Yeah I'm fine!" Mason called back, scrambling to his feet. He dashed out the door yelling a goodbye to his parents. Pallet Town was luckily a small town, but he still had to rush to the lab.

"Oh man. Oh man, oh man, oh man," Mason panted as he ran. He skidded to stop to try and catch his breath. He looked up to see that the lab was only a few houses away.

"Not-losing-this time!" he gasped. He walked over to the front gate of the lab and rang the bell.

"Hm?" A video screen popped up and Mason soon saw the old professor. "Ah, Mason! Good to see that you actually made it this time."

"Professor Oak! Yeah, I-made-it!" Mason gasped. He looked at the professor indignantly. "And I asked you to just call me Dipper!"

"Yes, yes, sorry Dipper." Oak laughed. The gates swung open. "Come in! It's time to start your journey."

Dipper walked up to the lab and entered. Professor Oak was standing near three pokeballs. He looked sternly at Dipper.

"Now Dipper, before we begin, I want you to know that this isn't something to take lightly. You'll be depending on this pokemon and it will be depending on you. The two of you need to help each other grow."

"I know that-"

"If you do, you would've been here on time last year. The only reason I'm giving you a second chance is because of your Great Uncle Stanford and the research he did to help start my career." Oak scolded. Dipper hung his head, ashamed. He looked back up at the professor.

"I promise that I'll take this as seriously as I can!" He said. Oak studied Dipper quietly, before turning to the pokeballs.

"I'm sure you already know the pokemon in these balls. But just in case," he picked up each pokeball and released the pokemon in each. A green plant dinosaur, an orange fire lizard, and a blue water turtle.

"Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Grass, fire, and water," Dipper stated. Oak nodded.

"Indeed. And one of these three will be your partner for this entire journey. So choose wisely," Oak advised.

And this is where the story ends for today. Please leave a review and see if you can guess what Pokemon Dipper chooses. Good bye for now! -Azure
