Adventures of a Lifetime

Synopsis

It starts as some stories do, with an unexpected displacement. A truth and a lie setting the scene, hinting at what's to come. An adventure on the horizon.

Our protagonist at first appears to be the stereotype of a struggling artist who is making her way through life. But what is to come of a heroine who does not yet realise all she's about to lose, and all what's in store for her?

Age 26 with an uncertain future, Marlene wasn't sure what was going to happen with the rest of her life, she certainly wasn't expecting this. Now stuck in another universe, one in which was a television show back home. How can she stay on the side-lines when perhaps the only way to get home lies with an alien in a time traveling police box? But she knows what she's getting into when she accepts his invitation to the whole of time and space. It might have been a couple of years since she'd watched old episodes of the show but she remembers vague details mostly concerning the overarching themes of the seasons and their endings. However, those episode adventures aren't the only trips waiting when they step outside the Tardis. The problem is that her presence alone is changing things from what she thought she knew.

Prologue

A hooded figure crouched down on the floor clutching their head as they fade in and out, a bellowing cry like none Jackie had ever heard echoed around the room. The Cybermen don't seem to know what was happening either as they talked amongst themselves and checked the computers around them. Jackie looked over to the only one she expects to have an answer, but bewilderingly the Doctor also looked confused. His face is frowning behind a pair of 3D glasses, as he leans forward in interest. Who is this person? They appear more human than the ghosts had, especially the sounds they're making, but Jackie knows now that despite the figure having two arms and two legs that doesn't mean it's the same species as she. She's definitely learnt that lesson. But why are they fazing through the room like the ghosts had done, but not just an outline? Nobody appears to have an answer. They all collectively wince as the cry of pain continued without pause, whoever it is, was in a great deal of pain. But this is a mystery that will have to wait, the Cybermen are taking her and the other humans away and the Doctor is left behind. And even more importantly Rose is downstairs somewhere. Hopefully they'll make it out of this alive.
