Justice League of Amazons: Dragonborn

Chapter 1

The Summit of Apocrypha.

At the Summit of Hermaeus Mora's realm of Oblivion, Apocrypha, two individuals faced each other. One clad in royal purple robes wearing a mask seemingly made of golden metal shaped in the sinuous limbs & appendages of a cephalopod. The other was clad in black armour composed of dark metal chainmail with the scaly hide of some great reptilian beast in some places. The man also wore a dark full helmet that had the symbol of a white dragon embossed on the forehead and beneath the helm glinted a pair of purple-blue eyes so dark they were almost black.

Both men stared at each other for a moment before the robed and masked man spoke in a deep resonating voice. "Here we are, Dovahkiin. At the Summit of Apocrypha, to decide the fate of Nirn," he said addressing his opponent. His opponent didn't say anything, he merely drew from his hip a simple but no less magnificent looking sword with the blade the colour of dark smoke and the hilt made of darker metal with a large flawless ruby embedded in the centre of the guard.

The robed and masked man tilted his head slightly before commenting, "And here I thought we were going to have a civilised discussion before this," he commented carelessly as though he knew this would be his opponent's reaction. "Very well then. If you're so eager to die, then let us begin!" he said as he pulled from his own hip, a large bladed and single edged sword and materialising in his other hand a green staff seemingly made of tentacles as well.

'Dovahkiin' held his sword in both hands ready to fight. The robed/masked man then bellowed out three loud words.

MUL QAH DIIV!

In a flash of light, the robed/masked man was encased in golden glowing translucent armour adorned with spikes and edges, giving him a draconic look almost. Dovahkiin took in a breath before shouting the same words as his opponent.

MUL QAH DIIV!

Then Dovahkiin too was encased in glowing golden armour as his enemy. His enemy gave a laugh before saying, "So, you too have learned all the Words to possess this power? This will be interesting!" he said before charging towards Dovahkiin who charged at him too.

Each of them swung their swords at the other and there was an almighty boom as the blades of their swords collided with one another. Sparks flew as blades clashed and grinded against each other as the two men fought each other. Dovahkiin shouted another three words.

SU GRAH DUN!

A small tempest of wind encircled Dovahkiin's sword and he began striking harder and faster at his opponent, even inflicting a few wounds on the man. The robed/masked man did not cry out in pain instead he only shouted once more.

WULD NAH KEST!

The robed/masked man zoomed over to another part of the Summit and his weapons disappeared in a flash and his hands were filled with lightning. Dovahkiin turned to face his enemy and sprinted at his enemy with a speed that would make many athletes jealous, especially given he was wearing such heavy looking armour.

The robed/masked man simply cast streams of lightning from his hands at Dovahkiin. The streams of arcane energy collided with Dovahkiin, but he simply kept charging forward at his opponent. Then the robed/masked man shouted three words just as Dovahkiin shouted three words as well.

STRUN BAH QO!

Then there was a roar of howling winds and torrential rain and thunder and lightning filled the skies as those words were bellowed out by the two combatants. Tornadoes filled the skies and began ripping up everything in the realm, the murky waters of Apocrypha churned and frothed into a seething mess.

Still, both combatants fought on, uncaring for the devastation caused by their actions. Then in the heavens of Apocrypha, a roiling mass of tentacles and eyes looked down at the summit and a deep voice filled with anger spoke.

"YOU FOOLS! I WILL NOT SUFFER THE DEVASTATION OF MY REALM! I BANISH YOU BOTH!" roared the voice and streaking down from the heavens, were sinuous tentacles and appendages that wrapped around the fighters and dragged them up into the heavens.

Justice League Watchtower above Earth.

Diana of Themyscira AKA Wonder Woman looked at the world below through the observation window. They had failed. Diana's Amazon sister by adoption, Aresia, had created a virus with the intent of killing every male person on the planet due to her extreme interpretation of the Amazon Way. Diana and Shayera Hol AKA Hawkgirl along with Diana's mother Hippolyta had tried to stop Aresia in her plans but by then it was too late. The virus had spread exponentially and claimed the lives of every male person on the planet before anything such as a vaccine could be created. Not even children or infants were spared, and many mothers cradled their dead children in their arms in despair and mothers-to-be faced the horror of a stillborn child in their womb.

Diana felt horror and revulsion that it was the very beliefs and teachings she prided herself in that were the root of this tragedy that had befallen Man's World and whilst many evil men and criminals had died, just as many, if not more good and innocent men and heroes died as well. Much of the Justice League was dead as well, leaving only Diana and Hawkgirl.

Diana began to think on each member of the Justice League. Superman was the leader of them, inspiring everyone to do their best and provided hope and inspiration to many. Batman was the foil to Superman, providing realism and practicality and was their best strategist, as well as the most experienced of them. The Green Lantern, John Stewart, while he and Diana hadn't always seen eye to eye on certain matters and they'd had a less than stellar first impression of each other during their first meeting, Diana respected the Green Lantern's dedication and willpower to get the job done. Flash, although he could be irresponsible and often acted rashly and without thinking, he was the most down to earth among them and was the glue that kept them together and in a way, was like the little brother Diana never had. And the Martian J'onn was a kindred spirit due to being from another world and although he had lost his entire world, his family and his people, he still carried on, fighting the good fight.

All these men were truly examples of what men should be and now? Now they were all gone. Taken too soon from this world by what Aresia had done because of her deeply misguided interpretation of the Amazon Way.

Shayera entered the observation and walked up to Diana and spoke to her. "Hey, are you okay?" the red-haired Thanagarian asked the brunette Amazon Princess. Diana wiped away the tears that were gently rolling down her cheeks before she looked at Shayera and said, "I'm fine, it's just… all our friends… they're gone!" Diana broke down weeping on the spot wracking sobs of grief shaking her body as she held her face in her hands, ashamed of what had happened. Shayera didn't say anything, instead she hugged the sobbing Amazon close, trying to comfort her as best she could.

"It's going to be okay, Diana. you weren't responsible for what Aresia did," Shayera whispered to her.

"I know that, tut it was the very beliefs and teachings I proudly followed that led to their deaths!" Diana exclaimed "And now, everywhere in Man's World, the public hate me and my people!" she sobbed.

"You had nothing to do with what Aresia did!" said Shayera looking Diana in the eye. "You would never have taken your people's teachings so far as Aresia had taken them! Don't let anyone tell you any different!" she ordered sternly.

Then Kara Zor-El AKA Supergirl came walking into the observation deck. "Umm. Hawkgirl?" Shayera looked at the younger cousin of Superman "Everyone's here," Supergirl then informed Shayera who nodded. Shayera and Diana then followed Kara into the conference room where the new members of the Justice League waited. It turned out that Batman had a contingency plan in place should any member of Justice League be incapacitated or otherwise unavailable for active duty and had created a roster of replacement heroes. Granted that most of Earth's heroes were male and subsequently had died to the virus, the ones who were female had all come in to bolster and renew the Justice League.

The new heroes had included the likes of Superman's cousins Supergirl and Power Girl from Metropolis and New York, Huntress, Lady Blackhawk, Black Canary and Batgirl from Gotham City. Vixen from Chelsea, and Fire and Ice from Brazil and Norway respectively. And lastly, Doctor Light from Japan and Zatanna Zatara from Las Vegas.

"Everyone take your seats, let's get this meeting underway," Shayera announced. Everyone took their seats and Shayera began the meeting.

"As you're all aware, the rogue Amazon Aresia unleashed a virus that was designed to kill all male persons on the planet and while Diana, Queen Hippolyta and I were able to stop Aresia's plans, the virus spread too quickly and consumed the lives of all men and male children on the planet before a vaccine could be created," Shayera recounted the events of the past few hours.

"With most of the world's governments and law enforcement agencies in tatters, it falls to us to help keep the peace."

"And how do we do that?" asked Zatanna.

"We help out wherever we can," replied Shayera "We split into teams and help restore order in all the major cities around the world," she said.

"And once we've done that?" Huntress asked.

"We hadn't thought that far ahead," admitted Shayera "But we'll work it out when we get there!" she said confidently.

"But what about Aresia? What do we do about her?" asked Vixen "She's still out there!" the dark-skinned beauty reminded them.

"Once we've restored order to the world, we'll then begin our search for Aresia and bring her and her accomplices to justice," replied Shayera.

"For now, we have work to do!" the Thanagarian said determinedly and everyone was then split into teams and began to restore order to all the major cities around the globe as many women were rioting and the remaining forces of law enforcement were hard pressed to keep the rioting under control.

Meanwhile in Olympus, home of the Olympian Gods.

"HOW COULD YOU HAVE LET THIS HAPPEN?!" Zeus, King of the Olympian Gods, bellowed at his two daughters, Athena the Goddess of Wisdom and Artemis the Goddess of the Hunt. Both Athena and Artemis couldn't look their father in the eye as they were both deeply ashamed at what one of their own beloved Amazons had done in the name of the Amazon beliefs they taught to them.

"Yes, do tell, sweet sisters, how you let such this travesty happen," Ares the God of War put in mildly although a hint of dark amusement was in the God of War's eyes as he delighted in seeing Athena and Artemis being shamed.

Artemis glared hatefully at her brother before speaking to Zeus. "Had we known what Aresia was planning, we would've stopped her!" she said.

"Oh, but you did know what Aresia was planning, didn't you?" Ares said gleefully. "You knew that Aresia would've taken your precious Amazon ideals to this length!" he accused, and his expression turned sour.

"And now, we're stuck in this mess, thanks to one of your bloody Amazons!"

"Then what are we to do?" asked Poseidon the God of the Seas, "Aresia's virus has reached even my favoured!" he exclaimed in anger. "And I have half a mind to sink Themyscira beneath the waves for this!" he declared.

"I would agree with such an action, dear Uncle!" Aphrodite the Goddess of Love hissed angrily, an expression of cold righteous fury on her beautiful features. It was rare to see Aphrodite so angry as she was at this moment, for she had seen that there were many men in Man's World whose love for those in their lives was pure and true, and thus worthy of her blessings. Aresia's actions had caused many women to take their own lives in despair at loss of their loved ones. It was rare for Aphrodite to have such anger, as she usually advocated love and peace and mercy.

Then Hephaestus the God of Fire and Forge spoke. "Can't we simply ask Hades to return the souls of the dead men who died to the virus?" he suggested.

"We could," Zeus said nodding his head slowly, "But, we all know what price he would demand for such a boon!" he warned. All the gods nodded in agreement as no doubt Hades the God of the Underworld would without doubt demand his freedom and the dominion of Man's World as his to rule for the return of all the dead men in the world. And there was no guarantee that the souls of the dead would return whole or even sane.

Athena then looked her father in the eye and spoke. "Father, please! Please do not destroy the Amazons! They should not suffer for what only one of their number has done!" she pleaded.

Zeus's eyes darkened as he contemplated his favourite daughter's words before he sighed and spoke. "Perhaps not all the Amazons should be punished for what Aresia has done," he said slowly and quietly. Athena breathed a sigh of relief and Ares rolled his eyes at Zeus's words.

"But, I now charge you and Artemis to find Aresia and bring her to Olympus, so that she may face my judgement!" Zeus then ordered Athena and Artemis. "Is that clear?" he asked them both.

Athena and Artemis both nodded, showing that they understood what their father commanded of them. Ares then spoke up.

"Father, I too wish to find Aresia and bring her to Olympus to face your divine judgement," the God of War said silkily.

"And why on Mother Gaia would you want to do that?!" demanded Artemis.

"To make sure that neither you nor Athena hide Aresia someplace far away from Father's gaze and spare her from his divine judgement!" countered Ares in a nasty voice.

"You may go with them, Ares," Zeus quickly said to his son before Artemis could utter a word of protest. "If only to make certain that your sisters do not hide Aresia from my judgement," he added.

Ares smiled triumphantly, and Artemis fumed in anger, whereas Athena only nodded in acceptance. The trio then left Olympus to begin their search for the rogue Amazon.

In the Metropolis City Gardens.

The Metropolis City Gardens, once it was filled with numerous families and people who would enjoy the serene beauty and landscape of the Gardens that were filled with many exotic trees, flowers and plants, was now almost a sad picture as some of the remaining people left in Metropolis filled the Gardens. There was almost a literal cloud of sadness and despair hanging over the Gardens as the women of Metropolis mourned the loss of those who succumbed to the virus.

Then there was a shift in the air, as though it were suddenly being sucked up. It was a moment that could be described as the moment before an explosive was about to be set off. Then a sudden explosion of light and crackle of thunder was heard and tumbling down from the sky in a cataclysmic fireball crashed down towards the earth. The park goers had the good sense to flee, save a few who took out their phones and cameras to record the moment in videos or photographs. The fireball then landed in the lake of the gardens which sent a huge wave of water crashing out around it and soaking a few bystanders who were recording the scene.

Some witnesses then began to dial emergency services to let them know the situation. Then emerging from the waters of the lake was a large armoured figure. The figure was humanoid in shape, wearing a dark full helmet and in its hand, it held a sword with a dark and smoky blade. Bystanders were now more than taking pictures and videos of this mysterious figure who strode from the waters towards the shore. It looked around, as though it were trying to discern where it had landed. Looking towards one of the women, the figure walked towards her; the young woman was shaking in her boots as the large figure stood before her, towering over her by a few feet. The figure then spoke in an undoubtedly male voice.

"Where am I?"

"P-Pardon?" the young woman squeaked out in fear as she was rooted to the spot in fear at this mysterious and fearful looking figure.

"Where am I?" the figure repeated its question. "I do not recognise this place," it said.

"You're in the Gardens of Metropolis," the young woman managed to say.

"Gardens of Metropolis? Where is that exactly?" asked the figure politely.

"In… America."

"America? Am I in another realm?"

The young woman then mustered up the question to say, "Who are you?" she asked.

"Call me Dragonborn," replied the stranger casually.

"Are… are you human?" the young woman asked feeling a little more confident.

Dragonborn nodded in response. "Can… can we see your face?" asked the young woman.

"Why?"

"Well… so we can be sure you are human."

Dragonborn hummed before sheathing his sword then lifting his helmet off to reveal his features. His skin was pale and his jawline strong and sharp without a trace of plumpness to it. A scar curved across his left cheek and over the bridge of his nose. His eyes were a dark purple-blue colour, so dark that it was almost black and his head was crowned with short silver-blonde hair. Dragonborn then looked at the young woman who was staring at him almost dumbfounded.

"Satisfied?" the giant of a man asked and the young woman nodded, swallowing a lump in her throat, her cheeks dusted red. Dragonborn then put his helmet back before asking, "So, this America, am I in another realm?" he asked, his voice echoing inside his helmet.

"You're from another universe?" the young woman asked.

"Obviously," replied Dragonborn.

"Where do you come from?"

"Tamriel."

"Tam-ree-elle?"

"Yes."

The young woman blinked at the blunt monosyllabic responses before asking, "How did you get here?"

"I was fighting my enemy Miraak in Apocrypha and we were causing a lot of damage, so much so, that Hermaeus Mora the master of Apocrypha banished us both from his realm," replied Dragonborn.

"Miraak? Hermaeus Mora? Who are they?" the young woman asked.

"Miraak is my enemy, and Hermaeus Mora is a Daedria Prince," Dragonborn said. "I don't believe you told me your name," he added.

"Felicity. Felicity Smoak," answered the young woman.

"A pleasure to meet you," Dragonborn said formally and he looked around, seeing all the women staring at him dumbfounded. "Is something the matter?" he asked as if curious and confused as to why all the women were staring at him.

"Well, it's just… how are you still alive?" Felicity asked him.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, all the men on Earth are dead!" Felicity said.

"How did that happen?" Dragonborn asked.

"An Amazon named Aresia unleashed a virus for the purpose of killing all men on Earth," Felicity said. "Not even babies or children were spared," she added.

"That is unfortunate," Dragonborn said softly. "Why did this Aresia person create this virus?" he asked.

"Well, she's an Amazon. A race of warrior women who believe that men are not needed," Felicity explained.

"Not needed? How do they keep up their numbers?"

"Well, Amazons are immortal compared to us," Felicity said. "They were blessed by the Greek Gods to be immortal, and live in a secluded island paradise hidden from the world," she added.

"Hmmm… interesting," Dragonborn murmured. "So, why is everyone staring at me so?" he asked.

"Well, you could be the last living male human anywhere," said Felicity. "So, everyone is kinda… y'know…"

"Kinda what?" Dragonborn asked.

Felicity looked at Dragonborn, and although the helmet hid his face, she could tell from his body language that he genuinely had no clue as to why everyone was staring at him so. "You do understand what I said, right?" Felicity asked.

"That I'm the last living male human in this realm?" Dragonborn said and Felicity nodded. "I do, but it's of little import to me," he added.

Felicity's eyes almost bugged out of her head. "Were you dropped on your head when you were a baby?" she asked looking bewildered.

"Don't know," replied Dragonborn with a small shrug of his broad shoulders. "Couldn't even tell you who my parents were," he said.

"Your parents? Are… are you an orphan?" Felicity asked, her eyes softening in sympathy.

"Yes," Dragonborn said.

Felicity looked at the crowd of women who were all murmuring and whispering to each other. Looking at Dragonborn again, she asked him, "Do you want to come with me to STAR Labs? I don't think this is a good place to have a conversation," she pointed out.

"As you wish," Dragonborn replied. "lead the way," he said to Felicity.

Felicity then lead Dragonborn out of the Gardens towards STAR Labs. All the while the crowd of women were still taking pictures and video footage of what could be the last living male human on Earth. Already those pictures and videos were being streamed all over the world-wide internet and social media. Felicity knew that and sought to take Dragonborn to a secure facility before less than savoury elements moved to take Dragonborn for their own.

Felicity could only hope that this man would be willing to help their world and not just leave it to wallow in suffering and misery.

TO BE CONTINUED…

A/N: There! The first chapter of this done and dusted! Hopefully it passes the grade and makes the cut. I do apologise for it being so short, but at least I got off my arse and wrote this. Anyways, not more to say, other than remind you all of the romance poll on my profile for this story. And if you'll note, there are some choices from other fandoms, I won't say what fandoms, but if you look at those particular choices, you'll get an idea of some of the ideas I have for this story.

And that's about the sum total of things, so I'll just leave this here and I'll see you all next time.

Be kind to one another,
