This Cannot Be Happening
This quarantine had been crazy to say the least. While Eddie and Jamie weren't technically on a quarantine, there were able to cut back their hours. Unfortunately for the 36,000 cops of NYC, crime didn't stop because there was a pandemic.
With the extra time they spent at home together, they'd spent a majority of their time in bed. Even with Eddie now working days, instead of midnights, things we're still crazy busy. They'd only have time for maybe one round a week. Their shortened hours now allowed for several rounds a week.
Of course with all this sex, meant an extra need to be careful. While they'd tried their best, sometimes they got caught up in the moment.
"No,no, no. This cannot be happening." Eddie exclaimed, frantically. She was in the bathroom. She'd just realized her period was a week late.
"Eddie?" Jamie asked, wandering into the bedroom.
"Hang on. I'll be out in a minute."
Eddie finished in the bathroom, and walked out to find Jamie sitting on the bed.
"What's wrong?" Jamie asked.
Eddie took in a deep breath and sat down beside her husband.
"I'm late."
"Late for what?" Jamie didn't understand.
"Jamie, I'm late. Like late, late."
"Oh." He was finally catching on. "How late?"
"A week."
"Well, um, do you think you could be? Have you taken a test or anything?"
"No, I haven't. I'm too nervous and maybe a little bit in denial."
"Ok, well do you want to take a test?"
"Not really, but we don't really have a choice."
"Well, we could go down to the corner store. I think it's still open. While we're there, we can pick up some more condoms, in the event we find out you're not pregnant. Ok?"
"Ok." Eddie let out a deep breath before getting up from the bed.
Both she and Jamie quickly put on their NYPD issued PPE. Luckily, they'd been able to snag a few masks and box of gloves for themselves, before they ran out. After they were prepped and ready to brave the outside world, the started marking their way to the closest bodega.
While at the bodega, they grabbed a few different kinds of pregnancy tests and a box of condoms, as well as some bread, eggs, milk, and a few other essentials. Once they'd payed for everything, the walked back to their apartment. They put all of the groceries away, after throughly disinfecting them, and then Eddie went into the bathroom to take the pregnancy tests.
"How long do we have to wait?" Jamie asked from his seat on the bed.
"The longest one takes 5 minutes, so about 4 and 1/2 minutes." Eddie answered, sitting down next to Jamie.
"If you are pregnant, would it really be the worst thing in the world?" Jamie wondered allowed.
"Jamie, look around. The world is suffering through a pandemic. We live in the city that just so happens to be the biggest epicenter in the US. Pregnancy means I'd be immunocompromised. If I were to get the virus, me and the baby might both die. So yeah, being pregnant would be the worst thing in the world, right now."
"If you are pregnant, then you'll just start working from home. You'd have to be on desk duty anyway. If you worked from home, there'd be less of a chance of you getting the virus."
"What about you? What if you unknowingly catch it? Then you'd bring it home to me and the baby."
"Well, it's not really like abortion's an option right now. All of the clinics are closed."
"Jamie, if I am pregnant, I wouldn't ever think about getting an abortion. I'm just saying that being pregnant right now would not be good."
"If you are, we'll get through it. We have to." Jamie affirmed, leaning over and pressing a kiss to the side of Eddie's head. The couple stayed in the same position until the timer on Eddie's phone went off. Eddie slowly got up from the bed, and walked into the bathroom. She picked up a pregnancy test and looked at the results.
Not Pregnant
The next one she looked at only had one line. The next one had a sad face on it. She took the pregnancy test in her hand and walked back out to Jamie. She handed it to him and waited for his reaction.
"This is good, right? This is what you wanted?"
"Yeah, it's what I wanted. I'm happy that I'm not pregnant, but to be honest, I can't help but feel a little disappointed. For some strange reason, I think a part of me was hoping the test would be positive."
"This is a good thing." Jamie stated, more confidently this time.
Eddie sat back down next to Jamie and leaned her head on his shoulder.
"For the record, I do want a baby eventually. I want to have a tiny, perfect being that's half you and half me. I really do, just not right now. Not in the midst of all of this chaos."
"I want that too, you know I do. And I think it will happen, maybe even soon. I agree, though, right now is not the best time."
"I'm glad we're both on the same page."
"You know, now that we have more condoms, we have everything we need to do some practicing. For when we're ready to start trying."
"Oh really?" Eddie asked, her eyes showing her sudden arousal.
"Yes really." Jamie said, swiftly flipping Eddie onto her back, making her laugh infectiously.
