I should not even be posting this because I should work on my other story, but this has been floating through my mind the last two weeks and today I finally decided to just sit down and just get it out of my system once and for all so that I can put all my focus on my other story once again.

So yeah, I hope you guys enjoy it.

WE MET AT A CROSSROAD

"What about this one, honey, do you think it would fit with our colour scheme?" Miriam asks while she holds a few light pink coloured roses, and Brooklyn comes walking over and just smiles at her while he places his hands on her hips and smiles at the roses.

"I think whatever you choose would be perfect, Mari, but if I can be honest, light coloured flowers will suit the best seeing as our wedding will be intimate, so yes, these will do just fine," and he then kisses her on her cheek before he walks away to go and look at all of the other flowers within this flower market, and while Brooklyn walks away, Miriam can only smile at his back and think to herself about how much she loves that man, how he has just made her life so much better.

She turns towards the roses in her hand once more and while smiling to herself as she pictures these flowers at her wedding, she suddenly hears her name being called and she lifts her head because she is not certain whether she has heard correctly but her name is called again, and when she turns to look at her left, Miriam sees how Julia comes walking to her, and Miriam quickly puts the flowers down and then jogs towards the Spanish woman with the two different hair colours, the two old friends immediately embracing each other when they reach each other.

"Julia, I can't believe it!" Miriam exclaims while she continues to hug and laugh with Julia, Julia also doing the same thing.

The two women finally release their holds on one another but they hold hands while they look each other up and down, "How long has it been, Miriam, six, seven years?"

"Seven years, Julia, seven long years since we have last seen each other."

"Gods, that is so long, where has time gone, but anyway, what are you doing here in New York City?" and just then Brooklyn makes his appearance and he places his hands on Miriam's hips while he smiles at Julia, Miriam just stepping away from Julia while still smiling at her.

"Julia, do you remember Brooklyn?"

"Hello, Julia, so good to see you," Brooklyn says as he smiles sincerely at Julia, and she too also smiles back.

"Brooklyn, what a small world that we live in, how are you?"

"I am doing just fine, and how about yourself, Julia?"

Julia grins, "No complaints whatsoever, so, what are you guys doing here?"

"We are here for the New York fashion week because I want to see the wedding gowns," and Miriam turns around to look Brooklyn in the eye, the two lovers smiling at each other and Miriam continues to talk while looking all lovingly into Brooklyn's eyes, "Brooklyn and I are getting married so I want only the best for our wedding," and then the beautiful woman with the long midnight black hair turns around to face Julia once more, Brooklyn wrapping his arms around Miriam's waist after she has turned around completely.

Julia's lower jaw just drops at this before she gathers herself and squeals like a hyperactive cheerleader before again pulling Miriam into a tight hug, she also hugging Brooklyn and congratulating them both on their wedding.

"I am so happy for the two of you, but you guys will never believe that I am also here for the New York fashion week, and also to look for wedding gowns because I too am getting married," and Julia touches her heart area with her left hand to show off her gorgeous wedding ring, a gorgeous 20 carat ring that almost looks as big as her hand and Julia only laughs when she sees how both Brooklyn and Miriam's eyes widen upon seeing the size of the ring.

"Gods, woman, it looks like you need a wheelbarrow just to carry that thing around," Julia again laughing at Miriam's comment but she does not feel offended.

"Believe me, sometimes it does, but he loves me and he has told me over and over again that I only deserve the best that money can buy, this ring being one of those things."

"So who is this lucky guy that spoils you so rotten?"

"You two actually know him, he is..." and Julia then looks past Brooklyn and she sees her gorgeous fiancé making his way towards them, this rendering her to stop mid sentence, "here he comes, you guys," Julia says as she walks past Brooklyn and Miriam, the two lovers turning around to see this man, and the moment Miriam lies her eyes upon this fiancé of Julia, she feels how the blood immediately drains from her entire body to who knows where.

"Kai, love, look who I ran into," Julia says happily while she wraps her right arm around Kai's body, he too wrapping his arm around her waist before he looks at the couple in front of him and he only freezes when he looks directly into Miriam's eyes, he suddenly unable to think straight, but he tries his best to not show any emotions or any reaction to seeing this black haired woman.

"You still remember Miriam and Brooklyn, right?" and Kai only nods his head at this while he keeps his eyes on Miriam, she doing the same with him, "and guess what, they are also getting married!" Julia says while again squealing and to Kai it suddenly feels like some claw like hand has just gotten a grip on his heart and is suddenly squeezing it with all its might, and it hurts like hell with each passing second.

"How are you, Kai?" Brooklyn asks while he steps away from Miriam to shake Kai's hand, Kai returning the gesture.

"Good, and how about yourself, Brooklyn?"

Brooklyn beams at this while he takes Miriam's hand into his, "Life is good, Kai, no complaints, and congratulations on the wedding."

Kai nods his head to this, "The same to you," and then he turns his attention back on to Miriam, their eyes once more meeting and suddenly all sorts of memories start to flash through his mind, all of about the two of them when they were together and how happy they were but he still fights with everything to not show a single uneasy emotion about this unexpected meeting, "How are you, Miriam?" he asks in the same manner he has just asked Brooklyn, even though he does not feel like it on the inside because he is anything but calm right now.

Miriam is currently so conflicted right now because for four whole years she has tried to forget about Kai, to pretend like he never existed and she was on the brink of it finally happening but now this had to happen: he had to come waltz back in here and mess up all of her progress.

"Ooh, do you guys have any plans for lunch?" Julia asks ecstatically while she claps her hands together.

"No," Brooklyn and Miriam answer together while the two lovers smile at Julia's intoxicating energy and how extremely happy she is with everything around her.

"Great, then it is sorted, we are going to have a proper lunch and catch up on everything, and I want to hear all about your wedding plans, Miriam, right down to where you guys are going to have your honeymoon," Julia still sounding ecstatic and hyperactive.

Brooklyn and Miriam nods their heads at this and with each couple walking hand in hand, they start to make their way to a restaurant for their lunch date, two of these four occupants wishing that they could just run away right now with no looking back.

The four have just finished their dessert and now they are all just sitting and waiting for all of the food to settle down before they make their separate ways.

Miriam and Julia were the ones who talked the most during this lunch date, both women not getting enough of the other's wedding plans, while Brooklyn and Kai kept their conversation light and it was mostly Brooklyn who tried to reach out to Kai because Kai still does not like Brooklyn and now he likes him even less seeing as Brooklyn is going to marry Miriam.

Brooklyn and Miriam are going to have a summer wedding with only 50 guests and they are going to hold it on the Masefield estate in France, right there at Masefield manor where all of the guests will stay so that no one has to waste money by staying in a hotel.

Julia is going to have a much larger wedding because seeing as Kai is an important figure in the business world, a lot of business associates and partners will get invited and their guest list is already at 500 guests; the wedding will take place late spring and it will be in Malibu, California.

"I still can't believe I ran into you guys today, it is almost as if the universe wanted us to find each other today, Miriam," and Miriam can only smile to this while silently curing the universe for doing this to her.

Kai suddenly takes out his cell phone and excuses himself from the table before making his way into the restaurant to get some privacy for his phone call, and Miriam can only discreetly look at Kai's back while he walks away from their table, her heart aching because of seeing him now after all this time; the last time she saw him was that Wednesday morning before he left for a meeting, he not having a clue what she was planning on doing that day.

Julia and Brooklyn fall into conversation about exotic animals and Miriam uses this distraction to look at Kai once more, she seeing how he motions for the bartender to give him a pen and paper while he is still on the phone, the man having become even more gorgeous after all this time, not to mention more fit and it almost seems as if he has grown because he seems even taller than what he use to be.

It does not take long for the lunch date to finally come to an end, the two women hugging each other good bye.

Kai shakes Miriam's hand first and the moment she takes his hand into hers, she feels the small piece of folded paper in her hand and she shows no reaction to this, and it isn't until Julia and Kai leave that Miriam quickly excuses herself to the bathroom to see what is written on the piece of paper.

"I just want to go tinkle, honey, and then I will meet you out in front, okay?" and she kisses Brooklyn on the cheek before dashing for the ladies', her fiancé only smiling to her before he also makes his way out of the restaurant, Kai already having taken care of the bill.

Miriam reaches the bathroom and runs to the furthest cubicle and quickly closes and locks the door so that she can see what is written on the piece of paper.

Four Season Hotel

Room 112

8 PM

That being all that is written on the piece of paper in Kai's neat handwriting, and Miriam can suddenly feel how the anger flares up within her for the audacity of this bastard that goes by the name Kai.

'That no good egotistical obnoxious arrogant cocky bastard! How dare he think that I will come to a hotel room like some loose woman! He is out of his mind!' Miriam yells within her mind while she scrunches up the piece of paper, but she does not thrown it away; instead she places it in the pocket of her pants before making her way out of the cubicle, she still seething on the inside about this arrogant move of Kai.

'Drop dead, Hiwatari, I am not going anywhere near you,' she thinks to herself, anger still pulsing through her entire being but it all disappears the moment she sees Brooklyn waiting for her and how his entire face lights up the moment he lays his eyes upon her, 'Sorry, Kai, but I have a man that loves me very much and I am not about to do anything that will jeopardise my happiness.'

'What the hell am I doing?' Miriam thinks to herself as she makes her way up towards the room 112 at The Four Seasons hotel, the black haired woman still not able to be believe that she is actual going to meet up with Kai after curing him within her mind the entire afternoon.

'Well, I guess I do owe him an explanation of some sorts; after all, I did walk away without even saying good bye to him, so I guess he does have some questions, but I am just going to give him enough time to ask what he wants to ask and then I am gone because there is no need to stay in his presence longer than what is needed.'

A 'ding' is heard which indicates that Miriam has reached the floor and the moment the doors open, she takes a deep breath to calm her nerves before making her way out of the elevator, she slowly making her way towards the room where Kai is waiting for her.

She reaches the room quicker than she would have liked to and after taking another deep breath and slowly releasing it, she knocks on the door three times and she does not wait too long before the door is opened, her ex lover standing there and looking down at her with no expression on his face.

He steps to the side so that she can enter, he closing the door behind them after she comes walking in, and Miriam immediately turns around to face Kai, neither of the two saying a word to each other while they look each other in the eye.

However, the longer she looks into those beautiful mahogany coloured of eyes his, the more she feels how she loses all resolve of staying only the minimal amount of time here, and with them still not saying a single word to each other, they suddenly lunge at each other and immediately start to kiss heatedly and very passionately the moment their arms are around each other, and Kai wastes no time in picking her up while Miriam wraps her legs around his body as he starts to head towards the bed, still not a single word being ushered between them as the two lovers start to get lost within this familiar kissing of theirs that they both have longed for for the last four years, and there is no pulling away from this now, the familiar and passionate kissing continuing even after Kai reaches the bed and places them both onto the bed, neither of the two wanting to turn away from what is about to happen between the two of them, even if it will be completely wrong and forbidden.

Miriam sits on the edge of the bed all while listening to the soft patter of the rain against the window, she not sure when it had started to rain but she enjoys it all the same, and she briefly closes her eyes while she imagines how cold the breeze of the rain would feel against her now naked skin and how she will welcome that cool breeze against her still sweat covered skin.

The room is dark, with the only illumination being the lights that come from the other buildings, New York City being a place that will never be completely dark even if all the lights in the house are turned off.

She gets up and after grabbing the white robe and putting it on and tying it up, she walks towards the large window and she places her right hand on the window, she immediately feeling the cold of the rain through the window and while listening to the soft patter of the rain against the window, images start to flash through her memory of what has happened between Kai and her.

His mouth sensually runs down the skin of her naked stomach...

She arches her entire naked body against his naked body as he again fills her all over again, their hands entwined and gripping each other tightly while he again sends her over the edge...

Her nails dig into his toned and muscular naked back while she moans out in pleasure, all while feeling his heated breath on her neck as he too groans out his pleasure against the skin of her neck...

'What the hell have I done?' Miriam thinks to herself while she rests her forehead against the window, she not even feeling guilty for having slept with Kai while she is engaged to another man, and she cannot understand how she cannot feel guilty because it is wrong in all aspects: IT IS CHEATING.

Kai has been keeping his eyes on his former lover the entire time, since she has moved away from his naked body and he still cannot tear his eyes away from her, no matter how much he wants to do it because he should hate her for what she has done to him but hell has a bigger chance of freezing over than him hating her.

Miriam hears shuffling on the bed, indicating that Kai has also gotten up and it is not long before she feels those strong manly hands of his rest on her hips and she can't help but to lean back against him while she also places her hands on top of his, she feeling how his naked and muscular chest presses up against her back and she can't help but to get lost all over again in this man's presence.

"Do you remember how much we loved the rain, how we use to make love with the windows open?" Kai asks softly, this being the first time that he has said anything in the last three hours ever since Miriam arrived here because up until now neither one of them has said a single word, not even a mere 'hello'.

Miriam smiles to those memories of Kai and her, "Yeah, there was always something magical about the rain; I can still feel the cold wet breeze gently blow over my clammy skin while we continued to make love with no end in sight."

No more words are shared between the two former lovers while they remain in each other's presence as they continue to listen to the rain that is still softly falling over New York City.

Kai is the one to break the silence after a while, his happy and content demeanour from earlier being gone and it is suddenly replaced by a melancholic one, "Why did you leave me four years ago, Miriam?" he asks, this being a question that he has constantly asked himself ever since he came back to their shared apartment that Wednesday afternoon and discovered all of her things gone, he still not knowing why she had left him without even saying good bye to him.

Miriam stays quiet for a while, knowing that she owes Kai an explanation, it being the least she could do given after they have spent the last three hours in between the sheets, "Because I grew tired of always being the second most important thing in your life, Kai. You never put me first in anything, there was always something or someone more important than me, and I got that you had your career to focus on and that you had to prove yourself to the business world, but I am a woman who knows her worth, Kai, and I knew that I deserved so much more than what you were giving me at that time, and that is why I had to make that horrible and incredibly hard decision to walk away from it all. It was not easy but it was needed, and in all honesty, I am glad that I walked away because now I get what I truly deserve, Kai."

Kai increases his grip on her hips, "Hn, and I take it that Masefield is the one who makes you feel like the most important person in the world," and he says it in such a bitter tone of voice because he is hurt, he now also knowing that it was his own fault that she has left.

"Yes, Kai, he does; Brooklyn has placed me up on a pedestal and he goes out of his way to make sure that I feel important and loved the way I deserve and I do the same for him; not one of us makes the other one doubt their own worth as we constantly remind each other that we are worth so much and that we only deserve the best in the life. And that is why I am marrying him because my life will never be empty or dull with him by my side."

"I could have done the same for you, Miriam, I could have given you the world if you had just told me how you felt."

Miriam immediately turns around to face Kai, she looking up at him with a hurt look on her face, "I have told you numerous times, Kai, but you never listened. You always tried to fix everything with sex, and sex is not love, Kai; intimacy is love and it is not achieved through sex. We were happy, Kai, I would never deny that nor will I deny the fact that we were really good together, but it was not enough, Kai. You never saw my worth and in the end it has cost us our relationship of five years, all because you could not find a balance between life and love. I am sorry for leaving like that and without saying anything to you but it was the only thing I could do because I knew that you would have tried to smooth talk me into staying and I just did not have the strength for it anymore," and Miriam then gently caresses Kai's right cheek, "I will always love you, Kai, and I will always remember and cherish our times together, but it is over, Kai; we both have moved on with other people and that is how it will stay."

She then gives him a peck on his mouth before turning around once more to look out at the rain.

Kai is hurting so much right now but deep down he knows that he is the only one to blame; he pushed Miriam away with his obsession with the business world and in return he lost the only woman he truly loved with his entire heart and soul and he has lost her for good, and that hurts so much that he can't even think of words to describe it right now.

"Why Brooklyn, Miriam, why that guy?"

"Because he was and is still good for me, Kai; after I had left you, I was down in the dumps and I just did not see any sunshine around me with all of the hurt and pain that I was feeling until I bumped into him one afternoon, and his positive energy was the boost that I needed, and yeah, a friendship formed after that meeting and after time it just blossomed into love and I do not regret it for one moment. I am going to marry Brooklyn, and I am going to be happy, Kai, the way I deserve to be happy."

And Kai feels a horrible stabbing feeling within his chest because of hearing Miriam say how she loves another man; sure, he too loves Julia hence why he asked her to marry him but Miriam will always be his true love, the only woman for him and the woman that still has all of his heart, even after all of this time and even after leaving him without a single goodbye.

"Why, Julia, Kai?" Miriam asks, deciding that she is going to throw Kai's question back at himself, and she curious to hear what his answer will be.

"After you left me, Miriam, things were not looking good for me; I started to unravel in a bad way because I did not know how to get over this hurt, and yeah, one night I came stumbling into a bar where I was looking for some companionship for the evening and I spotted her, not recognising her but she immediately recognised me and she went home with me that night but instead of sleeping together, we ended up talking the entire night and I remembered that it was the first time in a long time that I had felt so light, and just like with you and Brooklyn, our relationship also started as friendship that turned to into love later on."

Miriam feels guilty for putting Kai through so much but at least he had pulled through it all, just like she had to.

"Do you love her, Kai?"

"Why am I marrying her then, Miriam?"

"Answer the question, Kai: do you love Julia?"

Kai rests his chin on her right shoulder as he completely wraps his arms around Miriam's waist area, "I do, I really do, but she will never be you, Miriam," Kai says softly and he hugs her after saying this which she returns by squeezing his arm.

Miriam then turns around in Kai's hold, she now cupping his face in both of her hands, "We were good together, Kai, but we were two people who had met at a crossroad and we could not stay there forever, and now we are continuing our journeys on two different roads because it was time to leave the crossroad. We will always have our memories but it is in the past; we both have people that love us and that we also love so we have to let go, Kai, otherwise our new relationships will suffer which will be an unforgivable thing."

Kai says nothing to this as he leans down and again takes Miriam's lips in a slow and sensual manner, he gently pushing her up against the window where he goes to work in untying the robe and removing it from Miriam's body in a slow manner which once more renders her completely naked, just like him.

He again picks her up and pushes her against the window while they are still locked in the passionate kissing, the two former lovers remaining in front of the window a while longer before Kai again moves them back to bed so that their dance of love can begin all over again.

Miriam once more sits on the edge of the bed while she looks at how it is becoming early morning outside, she still completely naked; she hears Kai's laboured breathing behind her, he having fallen asleep about twenty minutes ago after an entire night of love making between the two of them.

Miriam turns around to look at her former lover and while she is looking at Kai's back, she spots his Yin-Yang tattoo on the back of his neck, it not being the traditional black and white but rather black and red, and she remembers how Kai had always said that it represents the two phoenixes that reside within him and that the one will never be able to exist without the other, and he always said that he will always be both good and bad and that he will never just be good or be just bad, he will always be both until the day he draws his last breath.

Miriam sighs and turns back to face the front once more, her body tired and sticky from all of the nightly escapades of Kai and her but she still does not feel guilty for what she has done, she does not feel guilty for cheating on Brooklyn or for betraying Julia even though she should feel horrible and guilt ridden right now.

She continues to try and convince herself that this was just a one-time thing between Kai and her, a final goodbye if you will, but deep down she knows that it will not remain a one-time thing, no matter how hard she tries to convince herself about that.

Her body has only been touched by two men in her entire life, Kai and Brooklyn. Kai took her virginity when she was 17 and since then they have been inseparable.

Her body was accustomed to Kai's touches, and sex with Kai was always so passionate, so intense and mind blowing, she being able to feel the effects for days after it, so yeah, her body was use to that intense sexual power and satisfaction and yes, she will admit any time of the day that she did miss it a lot after she left Kai, and she still misses it but not that much anymore.

With Brooklyn is it so sweet, so calm and innocent and gentle, so filled with love and yes, she loves that too but sometimes her body just wants to be dominated in a mind-blowing bed-wrecking manner like what Kai use to do to her, she craving that intense edge where she literally passes out from pleasure, but like she has told Kai; sex is not love, and it never will be.

Miriam again turns around to face Kai, she looking at his toned back, 'Why must you be so toxic, Kai, and why did you have to walk back into my life? Will I ever be able to truly let you go now, to remove you completely from my heart and my existence now that we have met up again? Are we at another crossroad, my love?'

Miriam sighs to herself because even though she wants this to be a one-time thing between Kai and her, she knows that Kai and she will most likely meet up again in this room tonight to continue this illicit affair of theirs, and who knows for how long it will continue, and whether they will truly be able to say goodbye to each other, and even after they get married to other people, will they be able to stay away from each other, will she be able to live a life without his toxic touches despite knowing that she must?

You can decide whether Kai and Miriam continues with their affair or whether they have finally said good bye to each other in the proper manner and went back to their loved ones, it all depends on you.

I am glad that this somewhat plot is out of my mind because it has been stealing my time away from black phoenix, lol, and now I know that I can focus 100% on it.
