Join Harry as he reunites with his father and faces a new war. A war against the dead

The day that James Potter and Lily Evans graduated Hogwarts was the day that James proposed to Lily. She happily accepted. They made plans to be married. But James and Lily had a terrible fight about how James was too irresponsible and childish to get married and that he would never grow up. Lily ended up breaking up with James and decided that she wanted to explore America.

Lily traveled throughout the United States, visiting all the magical and mundane historical sights. Lily had decided that she would drive across the country instead of using magic so that she could see everything as she made her way out of Florida and into Georgia. Lily drove for a few hours then decided to stop in King's County so that she could rest and get a bite to eat.

Lily got a room at a local motel and then went to the diner down the street to have a bite to eat. While waiting for her meal, Lily could hear two young men talking, "Man, Shane, I tell you what, I've had it with Lori. She thinks that just because we've been datin' since high school, that gives her the right to tell me what to do with my life. Well, it doesn't. If I want to become a cop, I will." A young man with dark hair and blue eyes was telling his friend.

"Hey, Rick, I told you, you should have broken up with Lori before we graduated. I would have saved you a lot of trouble." The man, Shane said to his friend.

"Yeah, I know, that's why I told Lori I want to take a break and see if we're still good for each other." The other man named Rick said then took a drink from his soda.

Rick was scanning the menu to see what he wanted to order when he glanced up and saw the most beautiful girl he had ever seen sitting in the booth in front of him. She had fire red hair and the most stunning green eyes. Rick smiled at the girl, and she smiled back. His best friend Shane gave him an odd look then turned around. His eyes widened at the sight of the redhead.

Shane turned around, "Boy, I tell you what, that is the prettiest girl I have seen in a long time," Shane said.

"She's the prettiest girl I have ever seen," Rick told his friend.

Shane smirked at his friend, "Well then, why don't you invite her over?"

"You think I should?" Rick asked.

"Why not?"

Rick shrugged and got up from his booth. He walked over to Lily's booth and smiled at her, "Excuse me, ma'am, but I couldn't help seeing that you're eating here alone."

"Yes, I am," Lily said, looking up into his beautiful blue eyes.

Rick was startled at hearing Lily's British accent; it was not what he was expecting, "You're British."

Lily laughed, "What gave it away?"

Rick blushed and rubbed the stubble on his jaw, "Oh, uh, I didn't mean to offend you, ma'am."

"I'm not offended, but please call me Lily, ma'am, make me sound old."

Rick smiled and put his hand out, "I'm Rick, Rick Grimes."

Lily took his hand and shook it, "It's nice to meet you, Rick, Lily Evans. Won't you sit down?"

Rick glanced at Shane then sat down in the booth opposite of Lily, "So, Lily, what brings you to Georgia?"

"Nothing, really. I'm driving my way across America to see the sights."

"By yourself? Isn't that a little dangerous?"

"I'm a big girl, Rick, I can take care of myself," Lily said with a smirk.

Rick laughed, "I'm sure you can."

A little while later, Shane gets up and joins Lily and Rick. He makes Rick sit next Lily, and they have dinner together. They spent the evening talking, asking Lily questions about England and Lily asking questions about Georgia in return. After dinner, Shane suggested they see a movie together, only to bail at the last minute, leaving Rick and Lily by themselves. That night began a beautiful romance between Lily Evans and Rick Grimes that lasted well into the fall.

In that period, Lily felt comfortable enough with Rick to tell him that she was a witch. He didn't believe it at first, but after she performed some magic for him, he believed every word. Now that Rick knew that she was a witch, Lily was able to apparate them all over the country, Provided that she could see a clear picture of it. They went to Disney World one day, and Hawaii the next. Lily and Rick saw all that the United States had to offer.

But eventually, it was time for Lily to head back to England, and Rick was going to start school at the academy. They had one more passionate night together before they went their seperate ways. Lily vowed that she would keep in touch with Rick and that she would get a mailbox in the Muggle World so that he could write her if he wanted. Rick agreed.

With a sad heart, Lily left Rick Grimes and returned to England. When she returned, James was waiting at her flat. He got down on his knees and begged Lily to take him back and told her he had changed, that James had decided to become an Auror and join the Order of the Phoenix to help fight Voldemort.

"Alright, James, we can give it another go," Lily told her ex.

James stood up and kissed Lily, "Thank you, Lily Flower, I promise you won't regret it."

A month later, Lily discovered that she was pregnant with Rick's child. She told her best friend Alice Longbottom what had happened, "How could this have happened, Lily? Didn't you use a contraceptive spell?"

"Yes, except-"

"Except, what?"

"Except for the night that Rick and I said goodbye. I completely forgot."

"Are you going to tell him?"

"I can't. Rick is an American Muggle, and he barely started going to school to become a policeman."

"So?"

"So, I don't want to ruin his future."

"Then what are you going to do," Alice asked.

"Call off the wedding with James and leave the Magical world."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Alright, then I support you."

The following day, Lily told James what happened and that she was now pregnant, but James didn't care, "It's alright, Lily, I'll claim the baby's mine, and I'll blood adopt him."

Lily shook her head, "No, James, that isn't fair to you or Rick. We can't take his child away from him."

"Okay, then I only adopt the child and make him or her my heir. Any children we have after that will split the inheritance."

And so, Lily and James got married. But Nine before Lily went into the Muggle World and called Rick. She told him that he was going to be a father. Rick was silent for a moment, "I want to be part of my child's life, Lily."

"And you will, Rick, I promise, James, is going to adopt the baby-"

"No!"

"Only in the Magical World, Rick. In the Muggle World, you're still the baby's father. James only wants to do this so that the baby has the Potter name to protect him or her."

Rick sighed, "Alright, Darlin', that seems fair. When do I get to see my child?"

"As soon as possible, but I told you there's a war going on here, so James and I will do our best to get to America. If we can't, I'll send you photos."

"I want to see photos of you pregnant, Lily. If I can't be there for you, then at least let me have this."

"As long as you send me photos of yourself as well so I can show our baby. I also wanted to let you know that if I have a boy I want to name him after your dad."

Rick smiled on the other end of the line, "Whatever you want, Darlin'."

"I have to go now, Rick, but I'll keep you posted."

After they said their goodbyes, Lily hung up and went back home. Rick couldn't contain his joy and went to tell his best friend, Shane. Rick told Shane everything, except the part about Lily being a witch. Shane sat there calmly and listened when Rick was finished, Shane leaned back and took a sip of his beer, "Man, I can't believe you're going to be a daddy."

"Neither can, I but I am. Lily said that once the baby is born, she and James will bring the baby here so I can meet my child."

So, for the next nine months, Lily sent Rick photos of her progress up until the day she gave birth. James was kind enough to take a picture of Lily holding her new son, Little Harrison James Potter Grimes.

Rick was tickled pink when he saw the pictures of his son. The boy looked just like him except with his mother's green eyes. He showed the images to Shane, who laughed and agreed with Rick, "I want you to know that you are Harry's unofficial godfather."

Shane chuckled, "Well, thanks, Man, I appreciate that."

"You're welcome, Shane, remember you will always be my brother," Rick told Shane.

Back in England, the only person that knew that James wasn't Harry's father was his best friend, Sirius Black. They decided to tell Sirius because he was Harry's godfather. Lily and James also wrote in their will the truth about Harry's father and that if they should die, Harry should be given to Rick. If Rick couldn't take him, then Sirius was the next option.

The months went by, and Lily kept sending pictures of Harry to Rick. Every time a photo would arrive, Rick would smile and wish with all his heart that he could see Harry in person. But Lily had told him in the letter that the war had intensified and they weren't able to leave England just yet. So Rick would write letters to Lily and send her pictures of himself. He also sent Harry a Christmas present. A stuffed teddy bear. When Harry got it, he was thrilled with his new toy, so much so that he wouldn't let it out of his sight.

It was almost summer when Dumbledore told Lily and James about the Prophecy and had them go into hiding. Lily snuck out and went into the Muggle World to call Rick and tell him what was going on, "Lily, If Harry is a target then you and James need to leave and bring my boy here. You were planning on coming this summer anyway, come sooner."

"I know, Rick, but Dumbledore said that he could keep us safe."

"I don't know about this Dumbledore person, Lily, but I have a bad feeling about this. I think it would be better if you left and came here. Didn't you tell me that MACUSA was giving the British asylum?"

"Yes, they are. Alright, let me talk to James, and I'll get back to you."

"Thank you, Lily."

"No, thank you, Rick."

With that, Lily hung up and went back to the cottage in Godric's Hollow. After Lily told James what Rick said, he and Sirius decided to make Peter the Secret-Keeper instead of Sirius. Lily protested, saying that it should be Remus, but James and Sirius weren't too sure about Remus anymore. So the Potters went into hiding, and on When Harry turned one, they had a small birthday party for him only inviting Remus and Sirius. When the party was over, Lily had Sirius send the pictures off to Rick.

Rick's heart broke at seeing his boy so happy and still not knowing who his daddy was. He could only hope that Lily could convince James, and they would move to the United States. Until then, Rick Grimes had no other choice but to wait.

Back in England, things were getting worse. Lily finally convinced James that they needed to leave. When he agreed, Lily had Sirius call Rick and tell him to expect them in November. Sirius did as Lily asked.

"Hello?"

"Is this Mr. Rick Grimes?"

"Yes, it is, who's this?"

"This is Sirius Black, and I'm a friend of Lily and James."

The was a long pause, "Oh, right, Lily told me about you. What can I do for you, Sirius?"

"I'm calling to let you know that Lily, Harry, and James will be heading to America in November. It's the earliest that they can get out of the country. Lily said that once they get to New York, they'll take a portkey to Georgia. I may go with them as well."

Rick's heart filled with happiness at the thought of meeting his son, "That's fine, Sirius, the more, the merrier."

"Thank you; I have to go. Hopefully, we'll see you in November."

With that, Sirius hung up and apparated away. Rick was so excited about meeting Harry that he went out and bought some new toys for his son. Rick couldn't wait for them to arrive in November. But when November rolled around, and the Potters never showed up, Rick started to worry. He waited by the phone all day, and nothing happened, then suddenly a note appeared in front of him with his name on it. He plucked it out of the air and unfolded it; by the time Rick finished it, he was in tears.

The letter was a precaution that Lily had taken, just in case, she didn't make it. It was to arrive the day after she died and tell Rick what happened and that Sirius would get Harry to him somehow. So Rick waited and waited, but Sirius never showed up with Harry. He was so distraught that he decided to go to England to search for Harry himself, but he didn't know where. Instead, Rick went to New York and went to the Woolworth building. He gave the password to the associate there for No Maj to get in touch with the magical world. When they realized that he was in the know, he was taken to MACUSA, where Rick requested to go to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Rick walked into the office and was asked to sit down by a burly man with a mustache, "What can I do for you, Mr. Grimes?"

"I'd like to report my son lost or perhaps even abducted."

"I'm assuming his mother is a witch?"

"Yes, and so are is his stepfather, but they didn't do it. They were killed three days ago in their home in England."

"England, you say, well, that's going to be difficult. I don't know if you know Mr. Grimes, but the Magical World in England has just finished a war."

"It's over? When?"

"Three days ago, but I'm sure I can still help you locate your son, what's his name?"

"Harry James Potter, Grimes."

The Auror sputtered for a moment then looked at Rick suspiciously, "And you say you're the boy's father, do you have any proof?"

"I have a copy of his birth certificate," Rick said and pulled out the birth certificate from an envelope he had with him.

The Auror took it and waved his wand over it to see if it had been magically altered. When he saw that it had not been, the Auror stared at Rick for a few moments, "Mr. Grimes, do you know what happened exactly three days ago?"

"Only that my ex and her husband died and that my boy was supposed to be sent to me by their friend Sirius Black."

The Auror flinched at hearing Black's name. He pulled out two glasses and a bottle of firewhiskey and poured some in each glass. He offered a glass to Rick, then downed his own. "You may want to drink that, Sir, what I'm about to tell you is unbelievable."

The Auror then went on to explain to Rick what happened on Halloween night and what had happened to Sirius Black. Rick sat there with the empty glass in his hand, staring at the Auror, "You're kidding?"

"No, I'm not, and as of right now, Harry Potter is considered a hero and is currently missing. The British Ministry won't say where he is if they know where he is. But I will do my best to help you find your son, Mr. Grimes. It won't be easy, but I'll do everything I can. He is a United States citizen as well."

Rick stood up and shook the Auror's hand, "Thank you, I appreciate all your help."

In the meantime, Rick had no other choice but to move on with his life. But he never gave up hope that he would see his son. Rick ended up marrying his high school girlfriend, Lori, and when Harry was supposed to turn eight, they had Carl. Things stayed pretty much the same until the summer that Harry was supposed to turn fourteen; Rick received a letter in the mail from England.

"Honey, do we know anyone in England," Lori asked one morning over breakfast.

Rick was reading the paper, and his eyes widened when he heard, "Why are you asking, Lori?"

"Because you received a letter this morning from England," She said as she handed the letter to Rick.

Ricks's hand shook as he took the letter from Lori, he looked for a return address, but it read from a girl named Hermione Granger. Rick carefully opened the letter and read it; the message started with 'Dear Dad.' Rick slowly started reading the letter, and as he read Rick's heart started racing and his eyes began filling with tears. Carl and Lori looked at each other concerned.

"Rick, what's wrong?"

Rick wiped his eyes and looked up at Lori with a big smile on his face, "My boy's alive."

A/N So that the timeline lines up I put that Harry started Hogwarts in 2004. Please don't complain.
