Chapter 1

Barry Allen didn't have the best childhood. His father, Henry Allen, was convicted for the murder of his wife, Nora. Barry swore that his father didn't do it, that the man in the lightning did it. Needless to say, no one believed him. Convinced that his father didn't do it he devoted his entire life to find the impossible and prove his father's innocence.

Now he found his way to National City, there had been continuous reports of a man with horns robbing a bank or stopping armored cars. He wanted to make his way to the NCPD, but he couldn't find a way to let Captain Singh to sign a document for him to aid the NCPD with their investigation. So, Barry did the next best thing, he went into a coffee shop across from the most recent bank robbery. He sat at one of the outside tables, but he needed to stand up to get a better view of what the police were doing. He slowly paced himself for a better angle not even noticing the young bespectacled girl, with blonde hair and piercing blue eyes, frantically going out of the coffee shop. They bumped into each other, which led to Barry falling to the ground.

"Oh Ra—my god," the girl said. "I'm so sorry." She hastily hurried to help Barry up.

Grabbing the outstretched hand, he simply smiled at her and said, "No-no, it's okay. I wasn't really paying attention to." He saw the spilled coffee on the ground. "I'm sorry about that. Uh… why don't I buy you a new one?"

"No, it's alright I was at fault too." The girl looked at her watch.

"Running late?" Barry asked.

"No, no, It's a weekend anyways. I don't have anywhere to be, honestly." She said.

Barry opened the door and told her, "shall we?"

She smiled at him and went in.

"I'm Barry by the way," he told her.

"Kara, I'm Kara." She told him back.

When it was finally their turn to order, Kara said her order and Barry did so too. He then opened his wallet. "My treat."

"Oh no, you don't have to." Kara told him, but Barry insisted.

After getting their orders, Barry went back to his table. Kara was looking around, and Barry took a glance at the other tables and saw that all of them were taken. He stood up and said, "Care to join me?" pulling out a chair and gesturing at it.

Kara smiled at him, "Su-sure. I mean, are you sure I won't be a bother."

"Nah, the more the merrier." Barry sat down on the chair in front of hers and took a sip of coffee. He turned to the bank where a group of police officers took a body bag of sorts into a police van. "I wish I could have helped…." Barry suddenly blurted out.

"Hmm?" Kara was curious of what Barry meant. She looked at were Barry was looking at. "Oh, the robbery. What do you mean?"

Barry turned to her then chuckled, "I'm a CSI for the Central City Police Department. Though I'm just here to look at things, but that's enough about me, how about you?"

"Ah, I work as an assistant for Cat Grant at Catco." Kara answered back.

"Cat Grant… Catco. So, you're a journalist." Barry stated.

"Ye-yes, I mean no, I mean I want to be... to be completely honest I don't know if I want to be," Kara sighed, took another sip of her coffee. "I'm just an assistant right now though. I mean, it's not like I write articles or anything. So, CSI, what's that like?"

"It's great, but to be completely honest it does get a bit depressing at times." Barry turned to Kara. He saw her making a slight frown. "Don't get me wrong," he smiled at her, "I love my work. It's real meaningful, but—," Barry shook his head, "—nevermind."

Barry took a big gulp of his now warm coffee as Kara's stomach suddenly grumbled. "Had breakfast yet? Cause I haven't."

Kara shook her head. "I know about this good diner."

"Perfect, we can get something to bite, maybe some eggs and bacon, maybe pancakes or waffles. Heck, we could even get all of them, though I don't really think we can finish all of that, but we can sure do try." Barry rambled on. "Uh…" he gave a short chuckle and said, "sorry. Um, lead the way?"

"Mhmm?" Kara answered as more of a question but proceeded to stand up anyway and Barry followed her. "I-I noticed that you were really interested with the bank robbery."

Barry could only give a blank face. "Yeah, I wanted to do an investigation about the recent robberies in National City, but my Captain down at the CCPD didn't sign off my papers to help the NCPD." Barry paused for a second. "I know this might sound crazy, but have you heard the reports about these recent robberies. Actually, it's more of a rumor, but do you think it's true that these where done by someone with horns."

Kara almost spilled the coffee she was drinking. "A man with horns? How is that even possible? I-I mean it doesn't make sense. Maybe people just saw wrong, or the robber was wearing some kind of mask or headgear to mask who he really was."

"I don't know why people are so skeptical?" Barry said back in turn. "I mean we literally have a flying, bullet-proof man with super-strength, heat-vision, and freeze-breath, down in Metropolis. I'm not even going to mention some of the bad guys he had to deal with. I just find it really hard to believe that people—"

"We're here!" Kara suddenly said.

They were standing in front of a small family owned diner. It was fairly full, but they spotted a table inside, so they decided to go in. They sat down and within a few minutes a waiter gave them a menu. Kara asked Barry what he wanted but he said that she could choose for him seeing as he doesn't really know what's good here. Now, Barry was kidding when he said they were going to order everything, but apparently Kara didn't get the memo as she essentially ordered half the menu. Barry wasn't disappointed, just surprised. It wasn't everyday you'd treat yourself to a buffet of breakfast food.

"So, tell me something about yourself," Barry suddenly asked while a waiter was placing down their drink orders. Barry got a milkshake, thinking that he's already drank too much coffee for the morning. Kara did the same, but it was really because she likes the milkshakes served there.

Kara noticed that her thumb had some of the milkshake on it, so she brought it up to her mouth and gave it a little lick, "what do you want to know?" She asked in turn.

"Anything really," Barry answered. "I mean, we just met like a couple of minutes ago. Stuff like what do you feel about the weather, your hobbies, they'll all be really new to me."

"Well, it's nice and warm out," Kara had a warm smile. "Hobbies, hobbies… I guess I really like watching movies and shows, old ones, new ones. Hey, can I ask… why did you go all the way to National city just to find a guy with horns?"

"I didn't go here just to find the horned guy," Barry said a little unsteadily. "I'm looking into cases that involves something unordinary… something seemingly impossible, and when I heard this guy with horns also had above average strength, well, I almost booked the first bus to National."

"Oh-oh. So, that's like your hobby." Kara said. "You know, you've got to meet this friend of mine, he also likes looking into aliens or anything paranormal. He's kind-a enthusiastic about it."

As Kara finished her statement a plate full of pancakes was placed on their table, then followed a plate with two eggs, then bacon, then some waffles, some sausages, and two slices of pie.

"I really don't think we can finish all of this." Barry stated.

Kara looked down and realized that she had actually ordered a lot. "Well, to be fair. You didn't tell me what'd you'd like to eat. I figured why not get a lot, have a lot of options you know."

Barry gave a chuckle at that, "yeah, fair…." He laughed, "hand me that fork, we have a lot of eating to do."

Kara perked up at that idea. "Then we better start."

After Barry ate about two pancakes, a waffle, an egg, a couple strips of bacon, a sausage, and half a slice of pie, he was tapped out. Honestly, he needed to push himself to even it that much, and now his wondering how this cute girl in front of him can continue eating as if it was the first meal she's ever eaten. Barry called a waitress and asked for two glasses of water.

Handing Kara one of them he said, "Easy, we don't want you to choke."

Kara took the glass and took a sip from it, "Sorry, my friends say I eat a little much."

"Nah—nah, I just don't know where you put it all." He smiled at her as he tried to go for another bite of pie, but once it entered his mouth, he knew he was down for the count.

Kara wiped her mouth with a tissue and pretended to be full. "We should get this wrapped to go."

Barry nodded. "So, Kara." He said as the waiter took their plates and began wrapping their leftovers. "I have the whole day here in National before I have to go back to Central, and since you mentioned you don't really have anything planned for the day, would it be weird if I asked you to show me around? I mean it's alright if you say no. It's just I don't really know anyone here, and it seems like a waste not to take the city in you know, and I'm rambling." He scratched the back of his head.

"N-no, it's alright I ramble sometimes too." Kara said back. "Oh, and I'd love to show you around. Though, I don't really know where to start, it's a big city. If you want, we can start walking off what we just ate and see where that leads us."

"Sounds like a plan." Barry smiled at her.

Kara toured Barry through the city, which mostly consisted of sidewalks, but she also brought him to the city's most popular museum and pointed to the building where she works. After a long day, they found themselves sitting on a park bench resting after the long walks and hours of standing.

"I had fun today," Barry stated. "Thanks, Kara." He gave her a short meaningful gaze.

Kara blushed a bit, nothing too obvious. "Well, I had fun too, Barry."

Barry took a glance at his watch and noticed that it was really late into the afternoon. "I think I better head home. I don't really want to spend the night here." Barry stood up and smiled at her. "Really thank you for today. I really would've just gone home this morning if I didn't run into you, well actually when you ran into me." He joked.

"Excuse me, you were the one not looking where you where going." She retorted playfully as she also stood up.

"Alright, alright, let's say we both ran into each other." Barry compromised.

"Deal." Kara easily accepted. She raised her hand to Barry and he easily accepted. They shook hands then Kara said, "It was really nice meeting you."

"You ain't so bad yourself." Barry chided. "Okay, I should go. The bus terminal is that way," he pointed to a direction.

"And my apartment is that way," Kara in turn pointed to the other direction.

"I guess this is goodbye," Barry said somewhat sadly.

"I guess it is," Kara answered back. "Take care, Barry."

"You too, Kara." He said giving her one last smile as he began walking away. He turned his head back to see her going the other way and something inside Barry was screaming at him to run back. He stopped in his tracks and turned around jogging towards Kara, "Hey, hey!" He raised his voice a bit. "Kara!"

Kara heard him like clearly and turned around to see Barry running towards her.

"I don't know if it's alright," Barry said a little short-winded, "but can I have your number." He fished his phone from his pocket and motioned it to her. He took a few breaths before he said, "I don't know. I just felt that leaving like that felt bad, and to be completely honest, I really did enjoy my time with you. It's alright if you don't want to give your number though. I'll just run back to Central and that's it."

Kara gave Barry a curious look. She didn't really know what to do at the moment.

When Kara wasn't responding, Barry got a little disheartened, "Uh, I'm sorry about that. I'll be on my way then." He began turning around when,

"Sure, Barry." Kara said, a small grin forming. "I'll give you my number." Hearing this Barry perked up a bit. "But in one condition."

"What's your condition?" Barry asked.

"You give me your number too," Kara said handing her phone to Barry.

After they exchanged contacts, they said another round of farewells and went on their way. On the ride home, Barry grabbed his phone and texted her, "If you ever decide to visit Central, give me call."
