THE BLOOD MOON

"King, you seriously need to calm down."

"DON'T YOU GET IT? I CAN NEVER BE CALM TODAY, NEVER!" King exclaimed as he rummaged through the Owl House in search of various items. Eda, was not having it, and using her magic to catch everything that King threw off the shelves. Luz the walked in, holding a ripped up pillow.

"Uh, can someone please explain to me what is going on?" She asked and Eda sighed.

"There's a Blood Moon tonight, and King here is freaking out for NO REASON!" She said and King turned around and pointed at her.

"There is a reason and you know it! I'm not taking any chances this year!" King exclaimed.

"Yeah, that explained nothing to me, you ripped up my pillow this morning when I told you to move. What is up with you and this 'blood moon'?" Luz asked in confusion and Eda sighed.

"Well unlike the blood moons you humans witness, the Blood Moon on the Boiling Isles has powerful demon magic in its light, and every year, our little King gets nightmares on the night of the Blood Moon." Eda explained and Luz squeezed her cheeks before gushing.

"Daw, you're scared of a nightmare?" She teased and King huffed.

"You wouldn't be laughing if you knew the horrors I've seen on those nights!" King reported, crossing his arms.

"It can't be that bad. I get nightmares sometimes, and the important thing to remember is that they aren't real." Luz assured King, who sighed.

"You don't get it Luz, demons like me aren't supposed to have nightmares, it's just not how we work. We cause nightmares!" King declared.

"Hey, wanna know about my nightmares? Hoot Hoot?" Hooty asked from the door of the Owl House.

"Not now Hooty, we're trying to make King stop being so terrified of the Blood Moon." Eda said.

"No one ever wants to know my dreams." Hooty whined and Eda shut the door.

"Alright King listen up, I'm not gonna spend all day listening to you complain about how the Blood Moon gives you nightmares, binds your soul with someone, or whatever!" Eda huffed.

"Okay first, that whole 'binding souls' thing is just a myth, and a bunch of baloney. Second, I am NOT being ridiculous! You just don't understand!" King cried and rushed out of the room and Luz watched him with a sad expression.

"Aw, he's so sad. Can't we do something to help him?" Luz asked, looking at Eda.

"Look kid, even I won't mess with the natural aura of the Boiling Isles, such as the boiling rain and painbows. It's the same thing every year, King wakes up screaming, runs into my room, and I'm stuck with a shaking ball of fur the rest of the night. King is just over reacting." Eda explained as she started cleaning up the mess King made.

"But there must be something we can do! This obviously scares King, so we should help him." Luz suggested.

"I dunno, I've tried to block nightmares from him before, and that ended up backfiring so bad he didn't sleep for a weak, on the plus side he was so cute walking around all grumpy like." Eda chuckled at the memory.

"Well, maybe this problem doesn't have to be solved with magic." Luz smirked and Eda gave a questioning look.

"What do you mean?"

"A what party?"

"A slumber party! It's from Earth, you get your friends together and hang out all night long! We'll have so much fun, that you'll forget about sleeping the whole night! It's perfect!" Luz explained to King and Eda.

"Hmmm, I do like the idea of not sleeping tonight, plus having fun sounds like a nice bonus." King said thoughtfully.

"Plus, we can learn our deepest darkest secrets if we play truth or dare." Luz added.

"Okay I'm in!" King agreed and Luz squealed.

"This'll be so much fun!" She cried and Eda rolled her eyes.

"Whatever keeps your from wrecking the place." She said, but smiled.

Maybe this wouldn't be so bad.

"Okay Eda, truth or dare?" Luz asked, everyone was now in their sleepwear and had blankets and pillows spread out on the ground where they were sitting along with some snacks and drinks.

"Hmmm, I'm gonna go with truth." Eda shrugged and Luz snapped her fingers in frustration.

"Dang it, I had a really good dare. Okay, for this round, I'll keep it simple. What was your favorite place on Earth to visit?" Luz asked and Eda thought for a moment.

"I gotta say Las Vegas." She shrugged.

"You've been there?! My mom won't even let me talk about it!" Luz asked with stars in her eyes.

"Oh yeah, she totally married a poor sucker before stealing his car!" King laughed and Luz's jaw dropped.

"You. Were. Married?!" She asked and Eda shrugged.

"Eh, most likely not anymore, the guy was crazy to think he should propose on the day we met, but I gotta admit, it was a nice place to visit, I gotta lot a merchandise there." Eda said and Luz gave a questioning look.

"Are you sure it doesn't have to do with the fact you actually fell in love?" She asked hopefully.

"Hey, one question per round!" Eda replied and Luz held up her hands in defense.

"Okay, fair enough." She said and then turned towards the window. "Whoa."

The Blood Moon was shining brightly with it's red hue in the sky. Nearly the whole sky was red because of how bright it was. Luz couldn't help but be intrigued by how unique and weird it looked compared to a normal moon. She almost couldn't believe the horrors it had caused King.

"It's beautiful." Luz said in awe and took out her phone to take a picture before being tackled down by King.

"Hey! What was that...?"

"NO PHOTOS! You could unleash the magic of the Blood Moon when it is no longer in the sky!" King exclaimed with bloodshot eyes and Luz raised her hands in defense.

"Okay, okay, sheesh! No photos, got it." She said and put her phone away. "There, it's put away, now let's keep playing!"

"Right, there is no way I'm going to sleep tonight!" King vowed. Luz and Eda cheered.

They went to sleep.

Luz realized that when she heard a whining noise and groaned before opening her eyes and gasped before shooting up.

"Oh my gosh, King! I am so sorry, how long was I..." Luz the noticed her demon friend tossing and turning in his sleep.

"No...I didn't...I wasn't...I wouldn't...No...NO!...STOP, NO, PLEASE!" King cried in his sleep and Luz gasped before shaking him.

"King wake up! Come on! It's just a dream!" Luz kept shaking him, but he was still asleep.

"NO! STAY AWAY! I WILL NEVER DO THAT!" King exclaimed and Luz then found Eda and quickly shook her awake.

"EDA! Please wake up!" She begged and Eda groaned.

"Aw man, did I fall asleep? There better not be any fake mustaches." She said and saw Luz's worried face.

"Hey, what's wrong?" She asked, now concerned.

"Something's wrong with King! We all fell asleep and now he won't wake up!" Luz cried and Eda looked over to King.

"HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME!" King exclaimed, failing his arms around and Eda frowned.

"This is new, normally he would have been scared awake by now...this isn't good." Eda mused.

"Can't you use some magic to wake him up?" Luz asked hopefully.

"I can't use a spell that will wake him up the easy way." Eda said and Luz frowned.

"However, there might be another way." Eda added and Luz gasped.

"Really? What is it?" She asked.

"Long story short, there's a spell that allows you to go into someone's mind, it's highly invasive so I don't do that to other people. That, and there's a chance of seeing something really...REALLY disturbing." Eda explained and shuddered slightly.

"So we can go into King's mind to wake him up from the other side?" Luz asked and Eda nodded.

"Yes but it won't be easy. Whatever King is seeing, we'll have to convince him it's just a dream, and that is not always easy. So this will be mentally exhausting." Eda said and Luz looked over at a squirming King before back at Eda and took a breath.

"I promised I would help King, so if it means invading his mind to wake him up from a nightmare, so be it." Luz vowed and Ed then summoned her staff.

"Then let's go. Hopefully we can wake him up before the Blood Moon sets." Eda said and lifted her staff before she and Luz were engulfed in a bright blue light.

When Luz opened her eyes, she wasn't in the living room of the Owl House any more, she was outside of it, only everything was a void of color besides her and Eda.

"Whoa, is this King's mind?" Luz asked as Eda stared at the house.

"I've heard that someone's mind-scape could look like where you live, or childhood home in some cases, so I would say yes, now let's head inside and get out of here." Eda said, they walked over to the door and saw a version of Hooty appear in front of them.

"TAAF, TAAF, U'Y TAAFK!" It belted out and Luz started at it weirdly.

"What?" She asked and Eda shrugged and simply opened the door.

"Not important, let's go." She said simply and the two walked in and Luz gasped.

"Whoa..." Unlike the actual Owl House, the one in King's mind was filled with stairways and many of them seemed to lead nowhere.

"How are we gonna find King in all this!?" She exclaimed and Eda patted her head.

"Don't worry kid, we just need to find the 'night dream room'. That's were he'll be, and we can just walk right in." Eda explained and started up the stairs. Luz quickly followed behind her.

"So, you've never done this before?" Luz asked, looking at everything.

"Well, not really. Like I said, it's way too invasive and I rather not look through someone's memories. They are kept private for a reason." Eda explained and they came upon a door with moon and star stickers covering it.

"Ah, here we are!" Eda smiled happily and grabbed the knob and attempted to pry the door open, only to have it not budge. She frowned and tried again, soon tugging at it with both her hands.

"Come on! Come on!" She cried and had her feet pressed against the door and tugged at the knob with all her might.

"This. Should. Be. Working!" Eda then let go of the knob and pointed her staff at it.

"Alright door, you asked for it." She pointed her staff at it and Luz noticed a sign above the door and grabbed Eda's shoulders.

"Eda wait stop, look!" Luz pointed above the door and Eda turned to the sign which had glowing white letters.

"'The door will only open when HE is dreaming.'" Luz read and rubbed her head in confusion.

"Wait, but I thought King was having a nightmare, if the door won't open...then that means..."

"...King is trapped in his own mind." Eda finished and face-palmed. "I should have known this wouldn't be as easy, and it makes so much more sense now."

"What? What makes sense?" Luz asked in confusion.

"The Blood Moon doesn't cause King to have nightmares, it's trapping him in a memory. Come on kid, this way!" Eda graded Luz and they started to run down the stairs and Luz gasped as she tried to keep up with her.

"Whoa, Eda slow down! What do you mean 'trapped in a memory'?" Luz asked as they ran through the maze of stairs.

"The Blood Moon is connected to demons specifically, there was a belief that demons are at their full strength during one, but I've never seen King do anything like that, I thin the Blood Moon is showing a memory King had long ago that haunts him." Eda explained and dragged Luz into a hallway with several door on the walls.

"Could King have really faced something that traumatic?"" Luz asked worriedly, and Eda looked down face filled with uncertainty.

"I'm not sure, but we have to figure it out soon." Eda then gestured to the several door around them. "If I'm right, then King is in one of these doors, we just need to find which one and pull him out."

"Hang on King, we're coming!" Luz cried and ran down the hallway, opening several doors as Eda followed suit.

The two looked through several doors, but most of them were of memories that took place after Luz had arrived not long ago. The two were starting to get worried and Luz had felt like she failed King, she had told him she'd help him, and now he was trapped in a memory, not even able to wake himself out of it! What if she was the reason because of that? What is keeping him up tried him out, and now he couldn't wake up because he was so tired? What if he NEVER woke up?

Luz felt tears in her eyes as she watched herself and King spent their first night together. He was cute and it was so much fun hanging out with him later the next day, even if she was tricked by a puppeteer demon. She wiped her eyes and closed the door and turned back to the hallway and cupped her hand to her mouth.

"KING! I'm so sorry! I promised that I'd help you, and now you're trapped, but I still wanna help! Please just tell me where you are! KING!" Luz exclaimed and fell to her knees and started crying. Eda walked over to her, hearing her distress and bent down.

"Don't worry Luz, even if we don't find King, the Blood Moon will be over in a few hours, and we'll be there for King when he wakes up." Eda assured her and Luz nodded sadly and was about to get up when she heard a familiar laughter and gasped.

"King?" She asked and looked around. It was badly audible, but she swore that she heard his laughter.

"Hahaha!"

"Did you hear that it's King!" Luz cried and ran off in a direction. Eda followed to the end of the hallway and there was a seemingly old door that had the words; 'WQQB AGF' carved into it. Only only that, there were several chains on it, but the lock was open and the door was open a crack.

"Whoa...I think we found the memory King was trapped in." Luz said and Eda glared at the door.

"I've got a bad feeling about this...maybe we should...LUZ DON'T!" Eda was too late, Luz opened the door all the way and a blinding white light appeared and engulfed them as they screamed and covered their faces with their arms.

When Luz opened her eyes, she was no longer outside the door, she guessed that she was inside it, but her eyes widened in horror at the sight around her.

She was back on Earth, but it was different. The sky was blood red, and several people were screaming in horror as they ran from several monsters. One included a giant head with a hand sticking out from the top of his head. I giant goat and water tower terrorized the streets and in the center of it all was a giant multi-colored X with a black floating pyramid under it.

"No...no! This can't be real!" Luz exclaimed and Eda walked to her side.

"It isn't, not anymore. This happened on Earth, but in the past." Eda explained.

"What? But when? And how did I not see that? This is...horrible! AH!" Luz screamed as she witnessed an eyeball with batwings turn a person to stone before carrying them off to the giant pyramid.

"Something tells me that it didn't reach the whole Earth. I'm guess it stopped." Eda mused to herself and Luz stared down at the town.

"Did King...witness this?" Luz asked and Eda said nothing as she turned to the giant pyramid.

"I think the answers will be up there." She then got onto her staff and gestured for Luz to join her.

"What if the eye-bats capture us?" Luz asked and Eda rolled her eyes.

"Kid, were in a mind. Anything can happen, if we don't wanna be seen, we won't be." She deadpanned and Luz blushed before face-palming.

"Ah, right. Sorry it's just..." Luz turned back to the chaos.

"...it feels so real..."

Once the two made it to the pyramid through a tiny window. Luz looked around at the brick walls and couldn't help but feel creeped out. Something about this place felt off...like whoever it belonged to was a mad-man.

"Hahahaha! Go nuts, guys! When we're done partying, I unveil Phase 2!" A voice rang out and Luz gasped.

"It's King! Come on!" She rushed off in the direction she heard the voice and Eda followed after her.

"Luz, wait!"

"KING! WHERE ARE YOU!?" Luz cried and suddenly saw an opening that appeared to be a throne room and gasped at the sight.

There were several demons seemingly having a party and looked pretty cool, but what scared her most was the fact there was a throne made out of people frozen in stone and sitting on that throne was a one-eye yellow floating triangle with a bow-tie and top hat laughing manically.

Laughing the same laugh King had.

Eda looked just as shocked as Luz and her eyes became wide as saucers. Luz covered her mouth with both her hands and slowly shook her head.

"No...no...that...that can't be King! It can't be!" Luz denied and looked over at Eda.

"Tell me that isn't King! Tell me that right now! Tell me that isn't King!" Luz pleaded and Eda could only shook her head.

"Kid...I don't know what to say." Eda said and they turned back to the triangle demon who was laughing maniacally and when a floating baby appeared he blasted it with his finger and the other demons gasped.

"Oh snap, he just killed Time Baby!" One cried and they started to celebrate.

"THAT ISN'T KING! HE WOULDN'T DO THINGS LIKE THAT!" Luz cried and stomped her foot and screamed. Eda grabbed her shoulders roughly.

"Luz calm down! I know this is a lot to take in, but we..."

"NOOOO STOP IT! I DON'T WANT TO SEE ANYMORE!" Another voice rang out and the two froze in place.

"King!" They cried and rushed past the throne room, Luz refusing to glance at the other demon and to a dark room where a familiar figure was hunched over and shaking from sobs.

"King! Ohmygosh, you have no idea how happy I am to see you!" Luz cried and the figure was startled and slowly turned to see Luz and Eda.

"G-guys?" He asked in disbelief and his eyes the widened in horror and stuck his paw out.

"NO! STAY AWAY FROM ME!" He cried and turned away from them.

"King, we're here to save you from this terrible memory!" Luz exclaimed and reached for him, only to have her hand slapped away.

"I said...STAY AWAY! DON'T YOU GET IT!? THIS WAS MY MEMORY! I'M THE ONE WHO DID THIS!" King yelled and Eda looked at him with worry.

"What do you mean? King, I thought that..."

"YOU THOUGHT WRONG EDA!" King suddenly stood in his hind legs and turned towards his friends with anger.

"THAT DEMON OUT THERE IS BILL CIPHER! THE MOST POWERFUL AND DEADLY DEMON TO EVER EXSIT! AND YOU WANNA KNOW THE 'BEST PART'?"

"King..."

"I AM HIM!"

Suddenly lightening seemed to flash and instead of King standing there, Bill Cipher was in his place and Luz gasped, gripping into Eda.

"King, what? What's going on?"

"I AM BILL CIPHER THE KING OF DEMONS AND NIGHTMARES! I CAUSE MISERY TO ALL OF THOSE THAT GO AGAINST ME! I MADE THIS TOWN INTO WEIRDMEGADON! THE MOST HORRIFIC THING YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE! I'M THE ONE WHO TORTURED SEVERAL PEOPLE OF EARTH FRO THIS ONE MOMENT! I LIBERATED MY OWN DIMENSION! I. AM. A. MONSTER!"

Luz was frozen in place. As King spoke his image kept shifting to either his or Bill's as he yelled and and the ground shook and cracked. Luz would have been terrified, but she looked directly at her friends eyes and saw not anger, but tears, streaming's own his eyes (or eye depending on what form he was in) and she stepped closer to him.

"King no! That isn't true!" She declared and King laughed through his tears.

"It all makes sense Luz! All this time I thought they were only nightmares, but it turns out it was EVERYTHING I HAD EVER DONE! And I was HORRIFIED by it! Isn't that HILARIOUS!? ISN'T IT SO IRONIC!?" King cried as he kept shifting between forms as he laughed and cried, gripping his head and stumbling around. Luz looked at Eda with a terrified look.

"What do we do? He won't listen and Eda walked over to Luz and called out to her friend.

"KING! Listen to me! I know that this is upsetting, but you have to understand that THIS ISN'T YOU ANYMORE! YOU WERE GIVEN A NEW LIFE! YOU'VE CHANGED!" Eda cried and King seemed to stope shifting as much, staying in his current form for longer and only flashing briefly to the yellow triangle. Luz seemed to catch on and joined in.

"She right King! We know you! This is the past!" Luz added, meaning ever single word that she said.

King seemed to take in their words, but doubt was clear on his face and from behind him, four figures walked towards him with glowing red eyes that were filled with anger. Luz didn't recognize them. She made then out to be two old men who looked remarkably similar to one another and two younger kids. One boy and one girl who she guessed to be siblings.

"You're a monster Bill! YOU drove me insane!" One cried.

"YOU invaded me mind!"

"YOU took over my body!"

"YOU tricked me into my own fantasies!"

All four of them started yelling several crimes Bill had committed against them, or on others that they they most likely witnessed and King started shifting more and more frequently and covered his ears.

"Stop it, stop it, STOP IT!" He cried and the figured started to swirl around him into a tornado like trap. Eda and Luz braced themselves against the wind and Eda yelled over the voices.

"King, don't listen to them!" She pleaded and Luz then yelled on the top of her lungs.

"THEY HAVEN'T SEEN THE WAY YOU'VE CHANGED KING! THEY DON'T KNOW YOU LIKE WE DO! YOU'RE OUR FRIEND! WE LOVE YOU!" Luz cried and King (who was in his Bill form) looked over at Luz and Eda.

He lowered his hands from his ears and shifted back to his normal form before rushing over to them and Luz held her arms out and he leapt into her arms. Luz held him tight, refusing to let go and Eda embraced them and a white light engulfed them.

All three gasped and eyes shot open before sitting up, slowly realizing that they were back safe in the Owl House.

"Hey! Wake up sleepy heads! Hoot Hoot!" Hooty cried from the door and everyone sighed in relief.

"Whoa...did that actually happen?" Luz asked, rubbing her head and noticed King staring at the window.

"Yeah, it happened all of it." King said.

"So, Bill Cipher huh? I've heard a thing or two about him, but know one knew how his story ended." Eda explained and King sighed and walked over to the couch and sat down.

"I was tricked into shaking a guys hand who did it so I would be at my weakest point, in the mind-scape. I was nearly erased from existence." King explained and shuddered.

"So...what happened?" Luz asked, sitting next to him.

"I...I called the Axolotl..." King replied looking down and Eda's eyes widened.

"The Axolotl? He's one of the most powerful beings in existence!" Eda gasped and Luz looked up in amazement.

"Whoa really?"

"Yeah, lets just say that compared to him, I look like a baby kitten. And that's the only time I'll admit that, so dong get used to it. Even that little blue gremlin can't get me say that..." She muttered the last part and King sighed.

"ANYWAY, I called out to him in my final words, and well...I guess I woke up here. No memory of my past life." King explained and Eda hummed thoughtfully.

"A reincarnation, I never would have guessed, though to be fair it is hard to tell." She said.

"Wait, reincarnation is a thing?" Luz asked and Eda nodded.

"Oh yeah, some people believe that certain demons are witches that have died to soon, and still want it preform magic acts, complete unfinished business, or whatever." Eda briefly explained and they two looked over at King. Luz placed her hand in his head and he looked up at her.

"King, I want you to know that I meant EVER word I said back there. You're still one of my best friends, despite everything you did. Those four people...whoever they are, haven't got to know you now, they don't get to judge you. Eda and I both love you for who you are here and now. And we always will." Luz said in the most sincere voice she could. King felt tears weld up in his eye and he pulled Luz into a hug. Eda hesitated for a moment, but eventually caved and joined the hug. Owlbert and Hooty even joined the group hug.

And although King heard a nagging voice in the back of his head, he ignored it. He knew who he was right now.

He was King.

AUTHOR'S NOTE!

OKAY FIRST OFF, THIS IS NOT CONNECTED TO MY GRAVITY FALLS STORY!

Now with that said, I must admit, I have theorized that King was Bill reincarnated for a LONG time! Like, as soon as I heard King's voice in the trailers. Finding out that Alex Hirsch WAS voicing him, was just the cherry on top.

I'm not saying that I 100% think this is actually going to happen (as much as I really want it too) but if it does, I will not be either surprised or disappointed. King and Bill are both awesome characters and I love them both dearly.

Also I do not plan on expanding on this story. Sorry, but I'm already writing a Gravity Falls fic and want to focus on that. This was just a fun little break.
