Saitama's POV
They had been in City T for four days already with no action. All Subterranean attacks were concentrated in the west. Hardly anything exciting goes here in the east. The most thrilling they've come so far was Fubuki telling them about Psykos' new vision.
Unfortunately, it was something that he does not care about.
He, Genos and King were currently doing rounds together when people started flocking around them. I wonder if everyone in our team gets this much attention in their shifts.
"King, dude, you should have worn your cap closer to your eyes. People are checking you out." He said.
There were loud murmurs when they pass, even a few shouts every now and then. This crowd was bigger than what he was used to see when he and Genos go grocery shopping in City Z. He was trying to filter all the noise out. So far, the people of City T looked safe.
"Sensei," Genos was pulling his sleeves. "I think the people are checking YOU out, not King."
"Yeah, I heard a couple of them shout your name. I think they saw you on TV yesterday." King said.
"Me? People don't ever get excited over me. I'm bald." Saitama deadpanned. As if being bald explained everything. They continued walking when suddenly a reporter got near them. The guy had a small camera turned to them.
"Caped Baldy," the reporter started, "people are amazed by your feats yesterday. Could you tell us more about yourself? With your power, how come no one knew of them before?"
Genos was in beast mode. His core was lighting up and whirring more loudly than usual. The reporter stepped back by two steps then Genos spoke, "Go away. Don't waste sensei's time with usueless questions!"
"He's your sensei?" the reporter was quiverring.
"Do you have any problem with that?"
"Genos, calm down. It's okay. I've got this." Saitama said.
Saitama cleared his throat. Twice. "Uhm, actually...aah... eh... hmm..." His hands were fidgeting and his forehead was positively, profusely sweating.
"Serious Series: Serious Run!" He ran. Even Genos was wide-eyed with this new turn of events. Saitama got back in HQ in less than 2 minutes.
Phew! That was a close one, he thought.
Once he got to the lobby, he saw the Blizzard group holding a meeting of sorts. They were all dressed to impress and were sitted in a perfect circle. He tried to eavesdrop until Fubuki herself called him.
"Hey, Saitama. Have you tried calling my sister yet?" she asked.
"Yeah, I did, earlier today but she did not pick-up. Probably still busy."
"I see."
As if on cue, Saitama's phone rang. "This better be important!" the voice on the other line said.
Saitama looked at the caller ID for a bit then answered, "I wouldn't dare calling you if it wasn't."
The person on the other line took a while to answer. "Baldy?"
"Tats."
"Damnit I'm tired, go straight to the point!" Her tone was cold.
"We've got life detectors." he said. "We like your team to take 5 of them so we could find the Subterraneans' lair. We've told HQ about it but they're not taking action."
"That... That sounds... uhm... good." Her tone changed somewhat. "Where did you get 'em?"
"Dr. Kuseno made it." Saitama replied. "He helps Genos with these stuff. Do you want them delivered to you, or do you prefer to meet halfway?"
"Yeah, that'll be better. Let's meet in City L. You better give Blast some, too." Tatsumaki answered.
"Cool. Are you still in a fight right now?" Saitama asked.
"Just finished with City F. Twas a fright. So, when do we meet?"
"Today if you want."
"Sure, give me an hour."
"Alright, see you there." Saitama said his goodbyes and flipped his phone close. That was a first. Maybe she IS tired, what with him being a able to talk to her properly, her language was even less colorful than usual. Saitama's eybrows knitted together. Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Oh bother, who cares with that psycho anyway?
"Ah, Fubuki, where's Atomic Samurai?" Saitama was invading Blizzard Group's perfect circle.
"He should be back soon. He went out to patrol with his kids."
"I see. I still have a few minutes to spare. So what are you guys discussing?"
"We're discussing where the family in the prophesy is. So far, our research has given us no clue. Nobody can't find Amai Mask and report says Blast has a son but no wife in the picture."
"Okay." Oh, why did I just open that topic?
"You don't have a girfriend do you?"
"Not you too! No, I don't have one." Saitama replied. He felt really repentant for eavesdropping. His mother always told him as a kid to never eavesdrop. And here he was now.
"No love life whatsoever?" Fubuki pressed.
"Are you offering me one?"
"No! What?!"
"Then stop asking me about it!"
Saitama called Atomic Samurai and asked him to lead the team while he was out delivering the life detectors.
He better run out of here fast because being in the limelight is never his cup of tea.
He quickly ran back their quarters to retrieve the life detectors and as soon as Atomic Samurai arrived, he left.
