Sunset at Paradise Cove

Chapter 1

Author's Note: Hi everyone this is my newest story. It takes place on an island called Paradise Cove which after some research I found out there is an actual place called Paradise Cove and so you are aware this story is a product of my own imagination, and have never been to the real Paradise Cove so it has nothing to do with the real place if there are any similarities it was not intentional, with that said I know many are being affected right now with the Corona virus and staying quarantined indoors for the safety of themselves and others around them. This story goes out to all of you and I hope that while you are reading you stay virus free and this story can help in some way take you someplace else for a little while and give hope for a warm virus free summer to come for all. Serena stepped down onto the runway first from the small plane that carried them to paradise as she stepped out into the fresh air and took in a deep breath as she turned back to look at her friends happily telling them "where here"

She heard Rei's grouchy voice in response arguing behind her from the plane saying "well make some room so we can all get out of this sardine can of a plane and see it too"

She quickly moved out of the way on the tar mat so her childhood buddies and lifelong best friends could join her as Mina, Lita, Ami, and finally Rei stepped down off the plane as they all stood next to Serena and looked around at the tall palm trees and clear blue sky that awaited them.

Lita took a strong smell of the fresh scent in the air as Mina clapped her hands excitedly telling her "we made it we're finally here"

Serena looked to her friends knowing this was the trip they had all spoken and dreamed about doing together and had spent over a year trying to plan it around all their schedules as she told them "this is the trip we have been waiting a lifetime to do together and let's not waste a moment of it so what will we do first?"

Lita quickly pulled out a book that she brought with her from her travel bag on island cuisine showing it to the others telling them "the author of this book Charles Dewai has a local restaurant around here and I am dying to check out his cuisine"

Mina shook her head not interested in wasting valuable daylight time stuck in a restaurant telling her "no I would much rather go shopping"

Rei shook her head knowing how long Mina could spend trying on clothes telling them "I don't want to be doing either of those things lets go check out the local scene"

Ami trying to be the voice of reason quietly whispered "we did just arrive perhaps we should go to the hotel and unpack first and then we ca get something to eat and do some shopping"

Serena watched her friends arguing over what to do first and let out a sigh seeing it was obvious they all had their own ideas on what they wanted to do first, while she had her own thoughts and wanted nothing more than to go check out the local beaches as she looked to them saying "how about we each go our separate ways for a little while and then we can meet back up in an hour to share what we've learned of the island so far over dinner"

All the girls looked to each other and then nodded in agreement as Mina patted Serena on the back telling her "this was a really great idea coming here Serena"

Serena looked to her friend knowing that her friends the ones that she always could depend on and spent all of her free time with that there together was growing shorter as she nodded her head sadly telling her "well with all of us going our separate ways soon, I think we need one last final hurrah"

Lita nodded her head in agreement knowing soon they would all be going to different colleges and trade schools around the country telling her friend back "come on Serena let's not think about those things now where in paradise let's enjoy ourselves while we are here"

Serena nodded her head happily telling her "you're right, let's make some amazing memories" The girls all cheered in response and then agreed to meet back in front of their hotel in one hour.

Serena stood on the boardwalk and slowly walked forward onto the smooth sand, she took her sandals off and walked barefoot feeling the sand going in between her toes.

She took a deep breath knowing when she came vacationing with her parents she couldn't enjoy a simple pleasure such as this one as she breathed in the freshness of the air.

She walked up to the water and had never before looked upon water that looked so clear and blue and she could not help, but just stand and admire it for a few minutes longer.

She was distracted from the sound of the waves rolling up onto the shore by a man's voice behind her speaking out to her "he is very good is he not?"

Serena turned around surprised to see a man who was a little heavy set wearing a Hawaiian shirt, he looked just like the people she saw in the travel video they watched and she assumed he must be a native man to the island as she looked to him asking "I'm sorry"

The man looked to the girl standing in front of him holding onto what appeared to be some sort of sandals with a heel on them as he gave her a friendly smile knowing she wasn't from around these parts and pointed out to the water telling her "he keeps well control of his board and the ocean moves with him"

Serena turned around to see what he spoke of and saw someone out in the distance on a surf board riding the waves. As the man said he seemed to be in control of the board as though he were one with the water, master of the ocean bending the water to his own bidding.

Serena watched from the sand unable to look away, she had heard of others surfing before, but never showed much interest in it before until this very moment. Watching the man out there on his board, he was masterful like Poseidon himself, no one could do any better until she saw a large wave coming up from behind him, challenging his abilities.

Her first instinct was to close her eyes not to watch the wave come down on top of him and have to watch him complete wipe out, but she couldn't turn her head away either. She watched from the sand with baited breath seeing the wave come down over him, but to her surprise and relief he rode out of it expertly as he challenged the wave back and won.

Serena turned back to the man standing behind him utterly amazed at the surfer's skill asking "who is that?"

The man laughed surprised that she didn't already know, everyone who came down to this beach knew his name and told her back "that is Darien he is one of the local heroes around here"

Serena nodded her head while she turned back to watch the man on the surfboard as the other man spoke telling her "he is very impressive is he not" She nodded her head probably looking dumb for having nothing better to say to him as she replied back "very"

The man nodded his head knowing like most other girls that come here she would find herself captivated telling her "every year there is a big surfing contest held right here. People travel from all over the world to attend"

Serena nodded her head only half listening to him as he spoke about a contest while her eyes were turned to the man on the surf board as he appeared to be getting closer to the shore and she could tell besides just his amazing ability he also has devastatingly good looks and told him back "really"

The man nodded his head seeing with most other woman who came to the island where her attention was turned to telling her with a small laugh "yes Darien is the running champion he has won the last five years in a row"

Serena watched the man come walking out of the water carrying his surf board under his arm with water dripping down from his ebony hair and she could witness that he had strong muscles under the tight wet suit that he wore.

He expertly held up his surf board and came walking up the shore as he waved a friendly hello to a few others admirers that he had on the beach watching him and she blushed slightly knowing she was one of them when the man next to her called out loudly "hey Darien come over here a second would you"

Serena turned around quickly to look at the man feeling embarrassed to have the good looking man's attention now turned her way, knowing she had been gawking at him like some star struck teenager as she saw the man that she know him as Darien looked her way with a small smile.

Darien looked over to see Angelo the local gossip standing on the beach with a very pretty petite blonde next to him, as his interest suddenly picked up and he walked over with a friendly greeting saying "hi Angelo how are things and who is this beautiful creature you have beside you?"

Serena blushed at his statement she had heard others call her beautiful before, but it never meant anything to her, just another form of flattery only this time with him saying it. It left a large blush adjoining her cheeks and she found herself starring back at him as Angelo spoke up seeing the two looking to each other as he told Darien with a small laugh "just another one of your adoring fans"

Darien nodded his head seeing the attractive girl in front of him with a smile as he looked to the petite blonde with a twinkle in his eyes telling her "well it is always a pleasure to meet a fan"

Serena took a deep breath knowing she had to find a way to use her voice again and actually speak around him saying "I just arrived with my friends today, but I couldn't help but be drawn here to the sandy beaches and that is where I noticed you out there on your board, you are very good" as she silently berated herself for having nothing better to say.

Darien nodded his head appreciatively knowing that she was just another tourist on vacation in search of the perfect story to take home to her friends and relatives as he told her back politely "well thank you miss I do appreciate the compliment, tell me have you ever been surfing before"

Serena shook her head no thinking about how ballistic her parents would be just at the thought of her doing so telling him more strongly than she intended "no definitely not"

Darien smiled back having a pretty good idea of the type of girl that she is and why she's here telling her back "well maybe we will have to change that while you are here visiting with your friends you say?"

Serena nodded her head seeing he seemed to be showing interest in her as well telling him back "yes we are here on holiday before we all start school in the fall"

Darien looked to her hearing many similar tales from others who came to the island looking for a good time as he told her back with a little smirk "I see so one last hurrah type of deal before you open the text books"

Serena looked up at him surprised hearing him say the same words that she had thought herself earlier today as she smiled telling him "exactly"

Angelo looked between the two seeing that Darien had found himself a new Amphitrite as he patted him on the back telling him "I will see you later my friend"

Darien seemed pleased to have some time alone with the girl before him as he looked to her casually stating "let me guess you are staying at the Wilshire?"

Serena nodded her head surprised that he would be able to guess at where she was staying asking him a little alarmed "how did you know?"

Darien looked to her and the way she is dressed and knew there were three types of young people who came to this island those who are traveling with their parents, those who spend all year saving up with their friends and then her type telling her back "well it is the only half way decent hotel around here for someone like yourself"

Serena looked to him slightly offended wondering what he meant by someone like her, when she was distracted by his amazing smile as he asked "so is there a name to go with that beautiful smile of yours so when I come calling on you"

Serena looked to him and bit her lower lip nervously knowing he was asking her out and telling him shyly "my name is Serena"

Darien nodded his head repeating her name again back and forth, she looked to him perplexed wondering why until he picked up her hand in his and told her with a sharp smile "Serena it suits you a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. I hope perhaps I can stop by and pick you up maybe give you a guided tour of the island while you are here"

Serena looked to him with that killer smile and deep blue eyes knowing she could forever be lost in those eyes telling him "I would really like that" and then quickly remembered the real reason she is here to spend time with her friends and shook her head sadly telling him "but I can't"

Darien looked to her disappointed as he looked to her suspiciously asking "already have a boyfriend back at home waiting for you"

Serena shook her head and let out a small laugh thinking about the boys she had at home, none of which she would consider boyfriend material not for her anyway telling him "no nothing like that, it's just well this is supposed to be me and my friends time together and well I don't think it would be right"

Darien looked around the beach seeing no other girls that compared to her saying back with a small grin "I don't see your friends here right now"

Serena looked to him with a small shake of her head knowing what he was implying as she explained to him "well no not yet. We decided to do our own things for a little while and then we are going to meet up later"

Darien looked to her not ready to take no for an answer and crossed his arms asking "well then why can you not take a little time tomorrow and do your own thing again and let me take you on a guided tour of my island and I hope get to know you better"

Serena bit her lower lip she knew she shouldn't be going with him, but he was really good looking and did seem sincere as she nodded her head telling him "alright I suppose I could go along with you for a little while, but I can't stay out too long"

Darien reached down and placed a small kiss on the back of her hand as she had only seen done so In movies while telling her "until tomorrow then and I will look forward to when I can see those beautiful blue eyes of yours shining for me again"

She looked back at him getting lost in his spell as she considered possibly being a little late meeting the girls asking him "you think my eyes are beautiful"

Darien smirked as pointed out to the clear blue sea and told her "of course they are like perfect blue reflections of the water clear and dazzling"

Serena started to feel all tingling inside her like she had never experienced before just being around him as she heard him tell her "I will be looking forward to seeing you tomorrow"

Serena nodded her head getting back to reality knowing she was going to be late with meeting her friends, but she would certainly have something to share with them as she nodded her head replying "yes tomorrow"

Darien nodded his head as he began to walk away down the beach with a small wave of his hand telling her "and I will be counting the moments until I do"

Serena stood there watching her white knight walking off into the sunset carrying a teal surfboard under his arm as she waved goodbye telling him "see you tomorrow" as she turned to walk away to meet her friends with a giant blush that she was trying to hide unsuccessfully on her cheeks

She walked her way down the couple of blocks to her hotel feeling like she was floating on a cloud. She had had been to many dinner parties and had conversations with other boys that were usually so boring it would end up with her dozing off during her soufflé as she thought about her brief interaction with Darien just now and the way her heart was left racing.

She walked her way up to the front of her hotel daydreaming of Darien with his jet black hair, amazing smile and eyes the color of the sky as she felt her heart skip a beat as she saw all the others were there already standing outside the hotel waiting for her to arrive as Rei called out "your late again"

Serena blushed thinking of the reason on why she became late telling them "I'm sorry I got delayed"

Lita looked to her intrigued asking "does it have anything to do with the way you're blushing right now"

Serena nodded her head knowing she couldn't hide this for long from her friends telling them "yes it does I met someone down on the beach"

Mina looked to Serena clearly intrigued that Serena out of all of them who never showed any interest in any guy since they've known her asked curious "met someone who?"

Serena smiled thinking of her brief encounter telling the four girls who were now all looking her way with different expressions on their faces saying "well his name is Darien and he's a surfer and so devastatingly handsome"

Rei looked to her with crossed arms in a look of obvious disapproval telling her "well that is just perfect have you forgotten that we are on vacation and your parents would never approve of some surfer, you can't just pick up some island guy and bring him home to your parents"

Serena thought about what it would be like bringing Darien home to meet her mother and father for a second and the heart attacks that would immediately follow then let out a laugh telling her "I know that it's not like anything will actually happen between us. I'm not planning on marring the guy, but I am on vacation and I am deserving to have some fun for a change, while I am here"

Mina looked to her obviously curious asking with bright eyes "so you are going to see him again?"

Serena nodded her head glad to see at least one of her friends wasn't being completely judgmental and would allow her to have some fun with an interested guy for a change telling her "yes he said he would take me tomorrow on a private tour of the island" as she looked to her friends hopeful they would approve asking "you don't mind if I go with him do you? It would only be for a couple of hours"

The others all looked to each other with uncertain looks while hearing Serena speak to them excitedly about a man she just met as Ami spoke up telling her what the others were all thinking, but couldn't say "just don't get in over your head with him Serena, you both come from different worlds"

Serena looked to her closest friends knowing as usual they only had her best interests at heart as she smiled telling them "don't worry I know what I am doing. I am just going to go on this tour with him tomorrow and then we probably won't see each other again. I am here to spend time with you guys my best friends not some random guy"

The girls all nodded their head in agreement ready to make this the best trip of there lives as they cheered on Lita spoke aloud to the group telling them "well I found out about a great place we can go to get food"

Serena smiled knowing she was never one to turn down good food and Lita always had a special knack for finding the best places to go telling her "lead the way"

The girls continued walking down the road to the restaurant speaking about their various adventures so far on the island, but Serena was only half listening because she couldn't stop thinking about the man with the amazing smile she just met.
