The title of this story came to mind when I saw a new sign at my place of work to stay away from others 6 feet while waiting for a measuring tool. (Semiconductor business) It said, and I paraphrase here, 'Please keep a 6 foot distance from each other while waiting, except for momentary passing in hallways.'

Momentary Passings

"How could being apart bring them so close together?" Quote by: Me.

Well, with everything happening in the world, the smaller towns in Colorado were also… not immune. The two towns that are the setting of the following are none other than Middleton, and the slightly larger burgh of Upperton. In consideration of the latter, Upperton University of Colorado, to be exact.

Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable had many options as to which college they could attend, but in the long run they decided to stay near home and family, and decided to take on their 'upper learning' at The Upperton University of Colorado.

It was in their Senior Year that a terrible disease started in another country, and with no vaccines to fight this horrible menace, many people all over the world were getting very sick, and a large number were unfortunately dying. Of course our young team of heroes immediately thought Drakken had something to do with it.

But upon breaking into his latest and not so greatest lab only to find him and his green-skinned henchwoman necking on the couch, did they realize he had absolutely nothing to do with this disaster.

Ron asked an incomplete question as they flew back to their apartment at UU of C in the Sloth. "When did they…?"

"I think just after we defeated the Lowardians." His girlfriend with red hair responded, and the two never spoke about it again. But for about ten or so hours Rufus had this weird look on his face, and he would give an involuntary shudder.

It was about 24 hours after this event that the college proceeded to put forth 'Mitigation Rules' in an effort to control this new disease that had been dubbed TEVID-20, which stood for Tecate Viral Infectious Disease, discovered in the year 2020.

One of these particular rules that were in place was that as students walked to classes via sidewalks, which were laced throughout the campus, they were to not stop and talk with anyone as they passed by. This was referred to on a list of rules as 'Momentary Passing'. And of course, each student was to also wear a breathing mask of some sort that covered both his or her nose and mouth.

There were many other rules that were intended to keep the students from catching this disease. But the rule concerning the masks and not stopping on the sidewalk, are what affected Kim and Ron the most, as they came across each other numerous times throughout the day while walking to and from classes. So being the great team that they are as the premier villain and crime fighting heroes, the two came up with something that they could do to keep their lines of communication open throughout the day.

Now of course, being two young people who were deeply in love with each other and had been living together for the last year and a half, their communication went… how shall we say… a bit of a different direction.

On just the second day of these rules, it all started. Early in the morning was always their first passing, as Kim went to Astro-Biology, and Ron was going to Underwater Basket Weaving. Kim quickly looked around, dropped her mask, blew Ron a kiss, and quickly put it back in place.

Immediately Ron's cheeks turned slightly red. Now being a person who was hard to be embarrassed, this upset him, and Kim could tell. As a result she couldn't help but chuckle to herself through the first half of her class.

What should I do next? She thought, and a devious plan was hatched at the spur of the moment.

So, when walking to their next class and the two started walking towards each other, once again Kim dropped her mask and mouthed the words 'I Love You'. She then quickly put the mask back up, as another student gave her a dirty look as they had seen this violation.

Now with Ron being Ron, his first thoughts were, Why did she just say 'Olive Juice' to me? (Hey, look in a mirror and say both phrases. They look practically the same) So his confusion was evident for a while as he arrived at his second class of the day, Quick Order Grill Cleaning.

For her next 'communication' to her boyfriend, Kim had another idea that she figured would really drive him wild. They had both learned American Sign Language so they could communicate without making any noise during a mission. This also worked well when they met fans who were hard of hearing.

But one particularly simple sign combined three letters. I, L, and U. The "I" was a raised pinky finger, the 'U' was made by holding down the middle two fingers with the thumb, and the letter "L" was made by holding the pointer finger and the thumb in the shape of the letter L. So by bending over the just the middle two fingers at the knuckles, with the index finger, the thumb, and the pinky extended, that left a representation of the letters "I L and U". So in short, it meant 'I Love You'.

Kim's plan was to put up this sign with one hand, pull down her mask with the other, and show her boyfriend a very coquettish grin, and all the while biting her lower lip.

So on their third and final passing of the day, Kim quickly looked around, pulled down her mask and flashed the 'I Love You' in sign language, and gave a look that left almost nothing to the imagination.

Now even though Ron is, well… Ron, even he knew exactly what his beautiful girlfriend meant.

So after their fourth and final class, each of then headed back to their apartment complex.

The management of the building was proactive with an abundance of caution, and wouldn't let anyone in without a mask, and everyone was required to take a temperature scan before entering. If anyone was without a mask, they would be given one at the door, and if anyone had a temperature failure of 100 deg. or more, they would be sent to the campus nurse for further evaluation.

Kim arrived at the building first, and she passed her temperature screening easily. She quickly went up to her apartment, and started to... get ready.

Ron's class got out about fifteen minutes later than Kim's, so he was headed home with a brisk walk. He arrived at the front door of the apartment building, and stood still as a heat sensitive camera scanned him, looking for a high temperature.

Up to this point, it had only taken a few seconds for the process to complete, but as Ron started to head into the building, the young girl reviewing the scan stopped him.

"Umm, Sir? I need to re-scan you."

"Really?" Ron asked with a raised eyebrow, as he was pretty sure he didn't have a fever. He stepped back in place, and he saw the brow of the girl narrow in confusion.

"I'm sorry, just one more time. I'm getting some kind of anomalous reading from your scan." By now Ron was starting to worry.

She then ran the procedure for a third try. This time a look of realization crossed her face, which was followed by an almost… knowing… smile.

"I'm sorry sir, the system was confused with uhh… another part of… your body."

"Really?" He then looked at the attendant's nametag. "Umm, Suzanne? Can I… ask for more details please?"

This time a slightly alluring smile crossed the young woman's face. "It was reading a higher temperature from an area… how shall I say… below your navel."

"Below my…?" Ron started to say, but then he realized what actually occurred. "Ohh… sorry." He dropped his eyes and walked into the building as she waved him on past.

"Possible is a lucky woman." Suzanne thought, as she watched the young blond quickly taking the steps up to the second floor two at a time.

Ron arrived at his door, fumbled with the keys, and finally was able to get the door open. He heard the TV on in the bedroom, walked in, and saw a beautiful redhead on his bed, dressed in a black lace nighty.

Kim was on her knees, looking at Ron with bright green eyes. "Guess what Ronnie?"

Ron couldn't say anything, as his jaw had hit the floor, and was still there.

"They finally gave 'Stay in Place' orders, and all classes are on indefinite hold.

"When did you…" he was finally able to squeak out.

"Tee hee… Silly… I've been keeping up with the news on my Kimmunicator. Plus they just announced it on TV." She pointed a slender finger at the screen.

"So…." She then inched ever closer to her almost husband, since they were engaged about 4 months ago. "Guess what that means?"

Before Ron could say anything, her lips were pressed against his, and with a twisting motion he suddenly was on his back with a tent of red hair all around his face.

Before he could even answer, Ron knew the answer… and then some.

The End…

Sorry… wanted to keep this at a 'T' rating. Anyways… Let me say I am just trying to put a little levity to the situation that's going on the world, and I mean no disrespect to anyone.

In fact, I would like to shout out a HUGE Thank-You to every Nurse, Dr., EMT, and any other medical professional out there that are doing their jobs during this pandemic. You guys are the TRUE heroes. I have a niece who just started in the nursing profession, and I think about her almost every day. This is quite a way to start a career.
