A/N I got the idea for this fic after reading a bunch of Hermione time traveling stories. I loved the idea, but couldn't find the exact one that I wanted, so I decided to write it all down. I hope you enjoy!

Disclaimer: I don't own the characters from Harry Potter. I only own the plot of this story.

March 27th, 2000, Ministry of Magic, Department of Mysteries

Hermione Granger strode through the Ministry of Magic. Several people greeted her as she walked through the Atrium. She said hello, but she was walking briskly towards the lifts.

"Hermione!" a voice called to me. She turned and sighed. Ron Weasley was striding towards her with a grin on his face. Ever since the war ended two years ago, Ron had tried to convince her to go out with him. He had never explicitly asked me, but Hermione could tell. She wasn't the brightest witch of her age for no reason.

She put a smile on her face as he got closer. "Hello Ron," she said.

"What are you doing here on your day off?" he asked. Internally, Hermione groaned. This was the last thing she wanted to happen, people wondering why she was there.

"Oh I needed to do something for Myers. And I finished the edits for the house elf law," she said. She knew mentioning house elves would put Ron off. He never did understand why she pushed so hard for house elf legislation.

"Oh," he said, much less chipper. "Well if you're going up I'll join you. Have you seen Harry? I thought he would have come in around this time and I need to talk to him about the Selwen case." He started rambling on, but Hermione hardly paid attention. At the mention of Harry, her mind started to drift to the plan.

Her bloody insane plan. It was something that you would think Harry Potter or Ron Wealsey to come up with, not Hermione Granger. Yet come up with it she had. It was insane and yet could change everything.

"Hermione? Hermione!" Ron's voice brought her out of her thoughts. "Are you alright? You drifted off for a minute."

"I'm fine Ronald. Just a bit tired, that's all."

"Oh well did you hear what I asked you?"

"If I was alright?" Hermione was puzzled, she had already answered this question.

"No, if you would have dinner with me this Friday."

She whipped around to look at him. He had stopped a couple of paces behind her and a distinctive blush had crept up his face. She put her most apologetic look on her face.

"I'm sorry Ron. I have plans this Friday. But I'll talk with Harry and see if we can find a date that works for all of us." She turned and quickly walked into a closing elevator before she could see the look of confusion and disappointment on his face.

Hermione got up to Level Four, Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, and made her way to the office. She put her stuff at her desk. To anyone walking through, it would seem like she was getting ready to work. On the contrary, Hermione was preparing to do one of the hardest things in her life. Even harder than wiping her parents memories or fighting in the Battle of Hogwarts. She was preparing to leave all her friends behind. Forever.

She brushed the thoughts out of her head. It wouldn't be forever. Years yes, but not forever. Hermione grabbed what she would need and made her way back to the elevators. She tried not to show how nervous she was as she walked into a lift. A ministry worker was standing by the buttons.

"Level Nine please," Hermione said in what she hoped was a level tone. The man gave a little bit of a start, but didn't question me. As the elevator started to move, she went over the plan in her head. Step One, don't tell anyone of the plan. That was imperative. If Harry or Ron or any of her other friends even suspected that Hermione might do something like this, they would stop me. Step Two, make it to the Department of Mysteries. Everything depended on making it to the Department of Mysteries. She had to get to the only door never opened by an outsider. Step Three, open the door.

"Level Nine - Department of Mysteries" said the cool voice. Hermione stepped off the elevator and walked down the long hallway, blocking out the memories of the last time she was going into the Department of Mysteries. She opened the door at the end of the hallway and quickly marked it with an X. The room began to spin, but the fiery X kept her grounded. After the room stopped spinning, She started to count doors.

"Five doors from the entrance. Three doors to the left of the Love Chamber," Hermione muttered to myself. She walked around the room until she found the door she was looking for. Hermione tried to open the door, but it didn't work. She smiled to myself remembering the last thing that she needed. "I am ready to bow to the laws of Time," she recited as she tried again to open the door. Even before her hand touched the handle, the door swung open.

"Enter those who seek something and yet nothing," a voice called from the room. Hermione took a deep breath and entered the room.

The only words she can use to describe the room was timeless. The instant Hermione entered the room, the door snapped shut behind me. The room was bare of any decorations, yet it seemed otherworldly somehow. In the center of the room was a glowing something. It was pale and seemed to have the shape of a woman. Even as she thought it, the something settled into the body of a woman. She was tall and ethereal.

"Welcome Hermione Granger," she said to me. "I have been waiting for you, and yet, I have just found out that you are intended to be here. Curious thing isn't it?"

Hermione just stared at her. "Sorry, but what's curious? And how could you have known that I was going to be here?"

"So impatient," said the woman, shaking her head. "Time is a curious thing dear. Which makes me curious I suppose. I am Time, Hermione Granger. And I knew that you were going to be here because I exist simultaneously everywhere at once. I also know why you are here, but I would like to hear your reasoning and any special requests."

Hermione continued to stare at Time, but slowly started to speak. "I'm here because I want to change time. I want to go back to where I can stop Voldemort from ever coming to power. I only have one special request though."

Time chucked, "Only one? That is refreshing. What is it Hermione Granger?"

"I wish to be able to meet all of my friends from this time period," Hermione told Time, drawing myself up.

Time slowly nodded and waved her hand. "I can do that. However, you will fail in your mission. Voldemort must rise the first time. Even I cannot interfere with something that grand. However, if you succeed, he will not rise the second time. I will send you back to 1960. In order to access your memories of this time period you must accomplish four things. One, you must attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Two, you must befriend at least two of the following people, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Lily Evans, and James Potter. Three, you must have completed your OWL's. Fourth, you must see a person whom you have looked up to in this life. You must name them now."

Hermione thought for a moment before deciding. "Minerva McGonagall," she said.

"Very well," said Time. She waved her hand and Hermione Granger knew no more.
