First Arc: The Transmigrant Teacher

Chapter 1: I

It was the middle of the night. The sky was completely dark and the boundless forest would be serene if not for the thunderous roars of savage beasts. In this forest, savage beasts roam supreme; their roars shake the mountains and the forests to rustle.

Yet another roar, and White retracted his neck from where he peered at the beast. As the beast's steps grew more distant, White's heartbeat began to stabilise. When he can no longer hear the beast's footsteps, he released a massive sigh, tension leaving his body.

Looking at the dark forest, White couldn't help but sigh in his heart. This place is really different from Earth.

As he rested his back on a tree, White's mind began to wander to his situation, more precisely how he ended up in this predicament; a month ago he was an ordinary college student. Yet here he is right now, in a forest in the middle of nowhere.

About a month ago, White woke up from a nap only to find himself resting underneath the shade of a tree. An odd thing, considering that he took a nap on a couch. Finding himself near a village, he approached the villagers in an attempt to obtain information, and hopefully find a way back home. Of course, he only did this after a case of near-hyperventilation caused by panic.

Apparently, the village was called the Lion village, located in the outskirts of the Bael territory. A land that has been ruled by the Bael family for the last 3000 years. When he first heard this, White was stuck speechless, he's no cartographer or historian, but he was damn sure that there is no land this large that is ruled by a single family in this day and age. Strike one.

Another thing that struck him was their population, or rather, their strength. While it is common knowledge that those that live away from the city and thus technology are physically stronger than city folks; it is a whole different matter when toddlers can carry tree logs the width of two adults. Strike two.

Lastly, the fact that some of the villagers are non-human. A glaring difference that struck White much akin to a fastball. While some are humans, some are merely humanoids with extra features. Like a lady with human top and spider bottom, yuck. Strike three, you're out.

A series of hyperventilation and fainting later, White was capable of thinking normally-to a certain extent. From there on, it was obvious for White to conclude the fact that he was no longer on Earth.

With the usage of his glib tongue and his skills in sweet talking, White was able to temporarily stay in this small village. Even so, he was constantly being talked about behind his back, ridiculed. Sadly, there's a good reason behind him being ridiculed, he was useless to them.

In this village, the adults are required to go out and hunt the animals for food. At night, they go out and hunt for game. While there is great danger in hunting in the forest in the middle of the night, there are also great rewards as most beasts would be asleep. However, to hunt these savage beasts, strength is important, thus every villager trains their strength and magic.

That's right, magic. Whatever location he found himself in, White found himself in a village where magic is commonplace. Even children are capable of using them. Correction, even children are stronger than him, even without magic. Just in the first day of being in the village, White saw children-still with snot running down their nose-use a 100kg rock as a ball to play with, casually tossing them around as if they weigh nothing. Compared to them, what kind of contribution can he make?

Modern knowledge? There's magic to substitute. Housework? There's magic to substitute. Labour? Not strong enough. There simply isn't anything that White can contribute to the village. And thus, he was mocked and ridiculed by the entire village. Adults loathe him for freeloading; Children bully him with their greater strength.

But this wasn't what made White depressed. What really hurts his balls was something that appeared in his head the day after he arrived in Lion village.

The Super Hallowed Impeccable Teacher System aka The S.H.I.T System.

Initially, White was elated by what he received, thinking that world travellers had exclusive benefits. However, the first prompt from the system immediately broke his jubilation into a thousand tiny pieces and then proceeded to burn whatever remains there was, turning his heart cold.

[System Main Quest established: Host becomes the greatest teacher in all of history.]

[The main quest is divided into stages. Every stage is to be completed before the time limit is up. If the task is not done within the given time limit, Host will be directly eliminated]

White looked at the system's prompt for a long time, especially the last line "Host will be directly eliminated". He was left speechless for a long time, before managing to eloquently describe his emotion, "What the f*ck!"

And now, White is deep in the forest, kicked out of the village for being unable to contribute anything to the masses. For days, White has spent his time hiding from savage beasts, using every method there is in the book to survive the harsh wilderness.

"This is bullsh*t!" White ranted. "I'm an earthling who travelled through worlds, I'm more tender than a baby! Literally! Instead of being the teacher, shouldn't I be the one looking for someone to protect me!"

"System. Oh great system, shouldn't you at least give me a secret manual or skill to teach before I take in any students? I have nothing but my clothes on me, what am I supposed to teach them? Sweet-talking and ass-licking?"

The system remained silent.

White sighed as there was seemingly no end to the bullsh*t he is in. "This situation would be much better if the novice gift was not redacted. "Due to novice gifts being too OP, it has been redacted" my ass! I need that OPness, damnit!"

The fact that the system is rather barren of functions doesn't help his situation either. A questboard that only has the main quest written in it; a shop option that is not open; an observer option that is also unavailable; lastly, the monthly lottery-the last possible saving grace in this mess-but that is also unavailable.

"My situation wouldn't be this bad if I was able to take in a student back in Lion village." White sighed. He planned to take in students back in Lion village, but the system deemed them to be too low in potential to take in.

White ranted when this first happened, "what do you mean too low in potential?! These newborn babies can carry me across the village if they want to!"

White was in the middle of swearing at the bullsh*t system when he heard a small cry in the distance. Being the curious soul that he is, White approached the source of the sounds cautiously, remaining in the shadows of the trees. Normally, this can be considered suicidal, but with a week of time left on the system's main quest, might as well satisfy this curiosity of his.

What he found however, was surprising. The source of the cry in this dark forest was a crying young boy, probably no older than 6 years old. A curious find, considering that while children of this area are stronger than the average Earth's adult, the savage beasts in the area are more than capable of killing them with ease.

Just as he was contemplating the situation he stumbled into, the system made an announcement that shook White out of whatever thoughts he had.

[Individual with sufficient potential found.]

[Target's data is as follows:

Body- 7 Intelligence- 6 Will- 10 Fortune- 7 Total- 30

Conclusion: Target's potential is extremely high. Host is recommended to take him as a student and carefully guide him.]

White did not see anything else. In his mind, there is no longer a dark forest surrounding him, only the child's potential data in front of him. His eyes were focused on the number for Will: "10".

The maximum value for the system's potential counter is 10.

What kind of value is 10? At 10 Will, even if the individual was bullied and harmed their entire life, they would still not give up in themselves; no matter what kind of obstruction they face, they will remain steadfast on their path.

But individuals with a 10 value are extremely rare. During his time in Lion Village, most individuals that he saw had an average of 3 in stats. If he had to categorize the values, it would be something like this: 1- Poor, 3- Average, 5- Talented, 7- Genius, 10- Heaven-defying.

"An individual with a 10 value would grow up into a figure that would be respected even if they had low values in other stats. This boy, however, has such good values across the board. If he was a character in a story, he would undoubtedly be the main character or at least among the main characters. And to think such an individual just lands on my lap, how lucky!" White thought in his heart, ecstatic with his choice in finding out the source of the cry.

Making up his mind, a small conniving smile made its way to White's face. Had his old friends from Earth saw his face, they would bolt far far away from him to safety. Usually, when White smiled like this, someone is about to be majorly screwed.

White's demeanor changed immediately, the conniving smile turned into a genial one. This coupled with his simple robes and bamboo hat made him look like a friendly villager. Yet, his non-presence-thanks to the system-gave the impression of a peerless expert.

Making sure his steps were heard when approaching, so as to not scare the boy, White cooly said, "The moon is beautiful tonight, so I decided to walk through the forest. Who would have thought that I would find a boy crying in his lonesome, and with such grief too. Tell me boy, what frustrates your heart so much?"

Not expecting company, the boy was surprised at White's question. As he looked over with a confused face, his large violet eyes that were filled with tears blinked. While wiping his tears, the boy replied, "But there isn't a moon tonight."

"It's just hidden behind the clouds. So what is causing you to cry?"

"My mom said not to talk to strangers."

At this point, White's right eye was twitching from annoyance. "This boy is too much of a smartass," he complained in his heart.

"Then let us introduce ourselves boy, so that we no longer remain as strangers. What is your name boy?" While his heart was filled with annoyance, his exterior did not reflect any of his inner ramblings, remaining as serene as a pond.

"...org..."

"Hm? What was that?"

"...raorg.."

"Speak up boy, I cannot hear you."

"Sairaorg. Just Sairaorg."

"Well, just Sairaorg, my name is White. Just White. And if all goes well, it's Teacher White." The last bit was left unsaid.

"So, Sairaorg, you have yet to answer my question."

The boy remained silent. Despite his silence, it was clear that the boy heard the question, as he turned his head and refused to maintain eye contact; that, and the start of new tears in his eyes were dead giveaways. The boy heard it, he just refused to answer or refused to acknowledge the answer.

White was not angry, if anything he grew calmer. He had a week left to finish the system's main quest, and this boy is his only plausible hope now. In delicate situations like this, it's best to take it slow rather than being hasty and ruining any chances. So instead of asking the boy again, White instead sat leaning on a nearby tree. Conveniently forgetting the fact that they were in the middle of a dangerous forest in the middle of the night.

It remained tensefully silent the entire time. The occasional sniffle could be heard from the boy, but White remained steadfast in maintaining his persona. Eyes closed and body relaxed, White painted the perfect picture of tranquility, the epitome of sereneness.

Eventually, the boy's sniffles died. It wasn't too long after when the boy finally managed to squeeze out a question to White.

"Hey mister, do you have any children?"

"Hmm..No I don't. Why are you asking?"

M"Well...Suppose you have a child, how important is it for you for your child to have your powers?"

At this question, White gained an understanding of the boy's situation.

"Ahhh...the abandoned child trope...how cliche. He really is a main character. Powerful parents disappointed by the fact that the child does not have their hereditary power or something similar, perfect beginning for a main character. I can capitalize on this." White thought in his head

"I believe the most important thing is for the child to grow into their own person." White replied coolly, eyes still closed.

"What do you mean?" Even with his eyes closed, White can tell that he's confused the child. Perfect.

"What it means is for the child to find their own path. A child may be born from their parents, but they are their own person and can find their own path to greatness."

"Their own path to greatness huh?" The boy repeated quietly.

White remained quiet, giving the boy time and space to think about it. Inside however, White was cheering on, "Take the bait! Take the bait! Take the bait!"

Both busy in their own respective manner, grew unaware of the coming rain. It wasn't until the first drops of rain fell upon them, that they returned back to reality.

Along with the rain came a pleasant surprise for White.

[Lottery now available]

Seeing no harm in doing so now, White told the system to activate the lottery. As soon as he said that, in his mind appeared a roulette wheel, much like the ones in casinos, complete with the standard 37 slots, red and black, 0-36.

Before he got the opportunity to observe however, the wheel began spinning. The numbers began to blur, and from out of nowhere, a single golden ball dropped into the roulette. Eventually the ball lost momentum and stopped in slot number 16.

[Rule of Cool Obtained]

[Rule of Cool-Single use Item]

[Allows the host to enact a badass action no matter how impossible of a feat it is for the host's current power. However, the action must not harm another entity, and is purely theatrical in nature. Can be activated with a single thought.]

Seeing what he got, White was intrigued, a small smile appeared on his face. While it cannot be used to protect himself against harm, it can however, be used for intimidation or awing purposes. Depending on how he uses it, it can be a hit or a bust.

Brought back to reality, the first thing White realised was the massive downpour from the sky. The second thing that caught his attention was Sairaorg standing a couple feet in front of his sitting figure, back turned against him.

"Hey mister, you mentioned about making our own paths right?"

"I did indeed."

"What if there are obstacles blocking your path, obstacles that you can't scale no matter what you do?" At his question, Sairaorg turned to face White, his face was impassive but his gaze was searching, watching White's every action.

Knowing exactly what Sairaorg was doing, White wasn't nervous; he was excited. Sairaorg had taken the bait. "Hook, line and sinker" he mused. Purposefully standing up slowly, White made his way to Sairaorg, hands behind his back, his flawless expert persona in full blast.

As he stood in front of Sairaorg, White stared at the boy, face completely neutral. His eyes focusing on the child's unyielding gaze, seemingly searching for something. As if locating what he was searching for, White smiled. Then, he walked right past Sairaorg.

[Rule of Cool Activated]

"If there are indeed obstacles in your way…" White turned around facing Sairaorg once again. Raising his right hand, he allowed a single raindrop to rest on his extended index finger.
This gesture enraptured Sairaorg, his entire attention was on White waiting for his next words and actions, and White couldn't be any more pleased.

"...All you have to do is to smash it to pieces." White finished his sentence as he flicked the raindrop upward. The single raindrop shot through its fellow brethrens, blasting through the clouds and dissipating them revealing the large full moon hanging up in the sky, its splendor revealed for all to see.

"It told you the moon is beautiful tonight."

Underneath the beautiful full moon, two figures stood apart, staring at each other. The duo consisted of a young boy seemingly no older than six; the other, a young man dressed in robes and a bamboo hat.

The boy's face was filled with awe while the young man had a small genial smile on his face. This young boy is Sairaorg, and the young man is naturally White. While he may remain calm on the outside, it is an entirely different matter in his mind.

'Uwwwoohhh! Did you see that?!" "I'm f*cking awesome baby! Woop woop!' Such thoughts filled White's mind; this high remained until Sairaorg's exclamation.

"Mister White, please take me as your student!" Sairaorg pleaded, going so far as to go on his knees.

White did not immediately reply, instead his face turned somber and contemplative. If he was to reply too quickly, it would be obvious that he is desperate; so instead, he would put on airs of being thoughtful of the matter.

"Boy, do you know what you are asking me to do?" White asked after letting a tense silent reign.

"Yes! I am asking for your guidance, to help me forge my own path!" Sairaorg replied with determination, his gaze unflinching.

"You seek power, correct?"

"Yes! I want to be powerful!"

"Why? Why do you seek to be powerful?" White's gaze grew cold at his question, causing Sairaorg to flinch momentarily. But an instant later, a new flame of determination ignited in his eyes.

"I WANT TO PROVE MY FATHER WRONG! THAT I CAN BE POWERFUL! THAT HIS DECISION TO THROW AWAY MY MOTHER AND I IS WRONG!" At this point, Sairaorg was shouting his sentences, it's a wonder how no savage beasts have appeared yet.

Sairaorg's answer made White quiet. His gaze was no longer cold, turning neutral and seemingly growing hazy, as if lost in thought.

'Holy sh*t! He really is a main character! The tragic backstory trope!' White exclaimed in his heart. He was no longer as excited, instead he wanted to cry. White was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Not accepting Sairaorg as student-not that he will reject the boy-means that he'll have to search for a new potential candidate of sufficient potential; and if he accepts the boy, he'll have to deal with the main character's story and adversaries. Truly, what a disaster. What ill fortune.

'F*ck it! The tip is in, might as well go all the way to the hilt!' White exclaimed in his heart.

"Very well. I accept you under my tutelage. You may call me Master or Teacher, whichever suits you." White finally said after leaving the boy hanging for a good couple minutes. Of course, this is purely for theatrics.

The moment he said those words, a wide smile appeared on Sairaorg's face. The boy even jumped in joy, his face was filled with pure elation and joy. Such purity even made White feel a bit guilty for playing the child.

Allowing the boy his moment of joy, White focused his mind into the system, focusing on the prompts that appeared moments ago.

[Congratulations on taking in your first student. Sairaorg]

[Congratulations on completing Main Quest 1: First Student]

[Main Quest 1: First Student-Complete]

[Quest Details: What is a teacher without students to teach? Nothing! Host needs to take in their first disciple, no matter the background. Quest needs to be completed within the set amount of time, failure to do so means the direct elimination of the host.]

[Time Limit: 4 Weeks]

[Hidden Objective: Student must be below 20 of age, and above 25 in Potential]

[Quest Reward: Bajiquan-Type-Moon (Technique)]

[Shop now available]

[Observer now available]

[Main Quest updated]

Seeing all this, White was ecstatic, his chances of surviving in this hellhole has increased however miniscule it is. So ecstatic that he missed the quest update. His attention however, was captured by the quest reward: Super Bajiquan-Type-Moon (Technique).

"Super Bajiquan-Type-Moon" White muttered in a very low volume, like a whisper. The moment he did this, a rush of information bombarded his head, filling it with different forms of the martial art. Through sheer force of will, White remained immobile, seemingly unaffected by the information download.

After a minute, the information dump was finally over. And White first thought was simple: "I know kung-fu."

Eventually, Sairaorg came down from his high, although the excitement in him is still obvious with the massive grin on his face. White was fine with allowing Sairaorg to slowly calm down, as it gave him the time to revise over the information dump.

As the term suggested, it was a literal information dump, thus White had to organize every information on his own. He didn't immediately turn into a master at Bajiquan, instead it was more like watching a slideshow or a movie while being granted a perfect memory, allowing him to memorize every small detail there is. It's more accurate to say that he was granted knowledge, but without any experience or proficiency to come with it. Needless to say, it was still a great help for his current situation.

"Teacher, where are you staying?" Sairaorg asked.

"Hmm? I was traveling before I accepted you, so I supposed you could say that I am homeless," White replied. Internally, he was sighing, another night sleeping under the stars.

"Then why don't you stay with my mother and I? That way it'll be easier for the both of us, also I'm sure that mother would be delighted to meet you!" said an excited Sairaorg.

'Right! His mother! I forgot about that, I was too engrossed getting him to become my disciple that that detail escaped me. Fuck! Now there's the risk of my persona being figured out and the gig will be over...but I haven't slept on a proper bed in a while now…' White thought, admonishing himself for forgetting that important background detail.

"Since you insist. I would be glad to meet your mother. Hopefully, she will be supportive of you studying under me." White replied, not a single bit of his thought process showing on his face.

"Great! Follow me then, the house is right this way!" With a skip in his step, Sairaorg began leading White, pulling the sleeve of his teacher in an effort to get him to move faster.

'Damn brat is way too excited..' White thought. Allowing himself to be dragged along, his mind began to focus on the system, checking on the new Observer and Shop function. After reading the description of the former, he immediately used it on Sairaorg.

[Sairaorg, The Banished One]

[Rank 0 Non-Entity]

'That's it? A rather underwhelming function to be honest, I expected more…'

A bit disheartened, White proceeded to focus on his second new function, the Shop. What he saw made him even more disheartened. The Shop itself was filled with goods to purchase from, but there was a problem, the price. The shop itself doesn't actually have a currency system, instead it functions on a bartering basis. To purchase a training manual, White has to trade in a training manual, a treasure for a treasure, as long as the system deems them of equal value, he can trade them in. It is in a sense, useless for his current impoverished self.

"Teacher! Look there is my houser!" Sairaorg's shout brought him back to reality. As his eyes trailed over to the direction the boy was pointing, White couldn't help but exclaim in his heart.

'What the fuck do you mean by house?! That thing is a bloody manor!' Despite controlling his vexation, White's left eye was twitching like mad. Never in his life had he seen a house bigger than this in person.

His complaining was interrupted however as they heard a shout coming from the mansion.

"Sairaorg! Where are you?" shouted a female voice, even from a distance, one could tell the distress in their voice.

"Ah! It's mom!" exclaimed Sairaorg, quickly running towards the source of the voice. Letting go of his teacher's sleeve, the boy began running towards his mother at full speed, allowing White to follow him at his own leisurely pace.

Following the boy, White was thinking about his background. In his head, he was brewing different kinds of background and excuses that he could use to convince the mother to let Sairaorg train under him, or at the very least not kill him on the spot.

"Mom! I'm right here!" shouted Sairaorg as he ran towards a female figure.

As the figure turned around towards the boy, she began running towards the boy as soon as she saw him, quickly enveloping him in a hug. Quiet sobs of relief could be heard in the quiet forest. Even the previously energetic Sairaorg was quiet, most likely feeling guilty for making his own mother cry.

Even as he arrived, White made no effort to greet her; allowing the reunion between mother and child to remain undisturbed. His own mind wandering to his own mother, suddenly feeling homesick.

'Mother…' White thought. The visage of his own mother appearing in his mind, and with it, the realization that he will most likely never meet her again. Is she searching for him right now, just as Sairaorg's mother was searching for her boy? Is she as distressed as the mother's boy was? Had she perhaps given up? Is she crying right now?

Many thoughts of his mother plagued White's mind, and they would remain unanswered.

"Sairaorg, my baby! Where were you?! I was so scared. I thought I lost you." The woman said, resting her forehead against her son's, soft sobbing could still be heard in between her sentences.

"...I was in the woods. I'm sorry for scaring you, mom." The boy replied, his tone quiet and gentle, yet heavy with guilt.

"Why did you run off on your own without telling me?" The woman's voice began to stabilize, and heat began to emerge in her tone, clearly now that she is no longer as distressed as she was, rightful anger began to take its place.

"...I was frustrated." Shame could be heard in Sairaorg's voice, either from his actions or from making his mother cry.

"Oh Sairaorg, are you still upset?" some of the anger left the woman's voice, and motherly affection filled her tone. This kind of abrupt change in mood can only occur to a mother.

"I was, but I'm no longer upset, mom! Because it gave me a chance to meet Teacher!" At this point, the boy's voice began to fill in with energy once again. Clearly, he was excited to tell his mother about his new tutelage.

"Teacher?" the mother inquired softly, confusion can be heard in her voice.

"Yes, Teacher White! He took me in as his teacher" the boy turned around to point at White.

As she turned to face White, for the first time, he got a good look on her face. She was a beauty. Her brown hair was styled in a simple low ponytail, it was just as disheveled as her white dress was, clearly she was searching for the boy far and wide. Her purple eyes exudes a mother's warmth, upon locking onto White, her eyes gained a sense of protectiveness. Her slender arms gripped onto Sairaorg just a slight bit tighter, pulling him closer to her protective bosom. Looking over her protective figure, White couldn't help but smile from his heart.

"Hello there Madam. My name is White, and as of recently, Sairaorg's new teacher." White said easily.

"What do you want from us? Which faction do you hail from?" the mother interrogated with a harsh voice.

"I am with no one, except your son. As he is my student, my allegiance is to him, just as a teacher should." White replied easily. Discreetly using his Observer function on the woman.

[?, Mother of Sairaorg]

Authors Note:

Wassup Peeps, Silver here!

This is my first story, sort of...technically my second...first one on this site though!

Anyways, I wrote this mostly because I got bored and have nothing better to do. As you may have realised, this is a System story, however, the system will not be a main part of the story. Never really liked it when authors focused too much on the numbers and stats, so I dumped all of that out of the window for my story. I wanted to write a story more based on exploration and growth of characters. As to why I decided that the MC is an OC, that's because I wanted to him to go across different stories, not just DxD, though that's far in the future. I wanted to write a teacher character mostly for the lolz really.

Anyways, if you've read this far into the story (or is it technically the Author's Note?), I hope you enjoyed the read at least a little bit.
