"That would make no sense. Why would she kill her husband and then call the police?"

"To distract us."

"I'm not buying it, I'm telling you, someone else is in on this."

"Maybe she knew of it?"

"And decided to rat them out?"

"I really don't think that's it."

"Excuse me?"

Hailey, Jay, and Kim turned to see Grace standing at the top of the stairs.

"Hey," Hailey smiled and stepped away from Jay's computer, "How're you?"

"I'm good," Grace walked over to them, "Is this a bad time?"

"No, it's a good distraction," Jay sighed and pushed away from his desk.

"Everything okay?" Kim asked.

Grace smiled wide and set her briefcase on Hailey's desk, "Everything's great." She sorted through her briefcase until she pulled out a yellow folder labeled 'Halstead.'

Hailey bit her lip and absentmindedly grabbed Jay's hand.

"It's okay," Jay breathed and kissed the side of her head.

"More than okay," Grace held out a signed piece of paper, "The baby's yours."

Hailey's eyes widened, "What?"

"He's yours!" Grace bounced on the balls of her feet, "Nicole signed the papers and agreed that you two can adopt her baby."

"Oh my god," Hailey covered her face, "Oh my god."

Jay slowly sat back down, "We're having a baby?"

"You're having a baby!" Kim hugged Hailey tightly.

"Congratulations!" Grace said.

Hank walked out of his office, "Did I hear that correctly?"

"We're having a baby," Jay breathed.

Hank smiled and lightly patted his back, "That's great!"

"Oh my god," Hailey bent down and hugged Jay, "We're having a baby!"

He weakly laughed and held her close, "A baby."

"Oh! The best part," Grace sorted through her purse, "Here." She held out a small square paper, "Open this."

Hailey grabbed it and her eyes instantly teared up, "Wow," she opened the paper and four stacked sonograms unfolded.

Jay looked up at them and swallowed.

"Hey," Hank set a hand on his shoulder, "Come here."

Jay numbly nodded and followed Hank into his office.

Hailey was distracted by them for a second before turning back to the sonograms in her hands.

Hank closed the door, "Nervous?"

"We're having a baby," Jay repeated.

Hank chuckled and pointed to the couch, "Sit."

Jay sat and put his head in his hands.

Hank opened his desk and pulled out his bottle of bourbon and two glasses and started pouring, "I was under the impression that you were aware of this."

"I was," Jay happily took the glass of bourbon and quickly drank it.

"But it's just hitting you now?" Hank sat in his chair.

Jay glanced toward the door, "A baby."

Hank nodded, "So you've said."

Jay reached for the bourbon, but paused at the last second, "Can I?"

"Go for it," Hank chuckled and sipped his own drink.

"Thanks," Jay breathed and refilled his glass. He quickly finished it again and closed his eyes taking a deep breath.

"Are you regretting it?" Hank asked.

Jay's eyes widened and he sat up, "No, not at all. This is the right thing to do. We've wanted a baby for a while now."

Hank nodded, "Okay."

"I swear," Jay said, "I want this baby. I love watching Hailey be a mom and I actually think I'm a pretty good dad. I love Drew and I'm ready to have a second kid."

Hank chuckled, "Okay."

"I'm not lying," Jay scooted forward on the couch, "Hailey and I were meant to be parents and we are doing a great job. Remember Monday? We were at a meeting about Drew and how to properly help him and it was terrifying, but they all seemed to think we were good parents and I completely agree."

"Got it," Hank nodded along.

"And will this be hard? Absolutely," Jay shrugged, "I don't care. I just want to help this baby out. It's not his fault that his biological mom took crap care of him. Hailey and I cannot turn our back on him."

"Jay," Hank interrupted, "Slow down."

Jay bit his lip and sat back.

"Feel better?" Hank asked.

Jay swallowed, "Yeah."

Hank nodded, "Good," he kept his eyes on Jay and finished his own drink, "That was very reminiscent of you asking me if you could marry Hailey a few years ago."

Jay blushed slightly, "I got a little out of control."

"But," Hank sat up and leaned against his desk, "You proved that you want this."

"You didn't believe me?" Jay asked.

"I believed you," Hank said, "But I don't know if you believed yourself. You seemed like you needed a reminder."

Jay rubbed his hands on his pants, "Maybe."

"Mhmm," Hank set his glass on the desk.

"Thank you," Jay said quietly.

"You're welcome," Hank nodded.

Jay took a deep breath and walked out of the office back to Hailey.

"Everything okay?" Hailey asked softly and set a hand on his back.

"Yeah," Jay kissed the top of her head, "Can I see the pictures?"

"Yes," Hailey happily showed him.

"Gosh," Jay whispered and traced the baby's face, "This is crazy."

"I know, you can see his little nose," Hailey smiled and pointed it out.

Jay laughed softly, "Wow."

Grace looked up from where she was sitting at Hailey's desk filling out paperwork, "What do you think?"

"I…honestly, I'm in shock," Jay admitted, "But it's a good shock," he looked to Hailey, "It feels right."

Hailey nodded and squeezed his hand, "It does. It's a good scary."

Jay smiled, "Exactly."

Grace smiled back, "I understand," she stood, "Is there a place we can talk in private to go over a few details?"

"Of course," Hailey led the way to the break room. Once they were all in, she closed the door and sat at the table with Jay, "Does she still want a closed adoption?"

"Yes," Grace sat across from them, "She doesn't want pictures or updates after he's born and is very insistent on that."

"That's kind of sad," Jay said.

Grace nodded, "Yes, but it's what she wants and she trusts you two to take care of him. It really gives me hope that she's not going to change her mind down the line."

"She could change her mind?" Hailey asked, "We could have a nursery and a name and clothes and she could change her mind?"

Grace took a deep breath, "Yes. I haven't seen it often, but it's something that you should be aware of if worst comes to worst."

"Oh my god," Hailey breathed and stood.

"You okay?" Jay set a hand on her waist.

"We could lose the baby, of course I'm not okay," Hailey hissed.

"Hey," Jay stood and gently hugged her to his chest, "Breathe with me."

"This is not fair, Jay," Hailey said.

"I know it's not, but she's not saying it will happen," Jay whispered, "Just that it could. We can't dwell on that for long."

Hailey shook her head and gripped his shirt, "I don't know. I don't know if we can do this."

"Yes we can," Jay rubbed her back, "We are good parents."

"We are," Hailey said quietly.

Jay ran his fingers through her hair, "So let's sit down and talk this out."

Hailey took a deep breath and stepped back, "I'm sorry."

"It's okay," Grace shook her head, "It's scary, I know. If you didn't react like that, I'd probably think you're a little strange."

Hailey laughed softly and sat down, "Thank you."

Jay sat in his chair as well, "So this isn't one hundred percent guaranteed until when?"

"She has three days after he's born," Grace said, "Under Illinois law, I cannot legally give her the final piece of paperwork for 72 hours after his birth. Once we get to the 72 hour mark, she will then have the option to sign a form called the Final and Irrevocable Surrender for Purposes of Adoption and if she signs that, like the name suggests, she cannot go back and the baby is yours."

"Okay," Jay breathed and rubbed his face, "Got it."

"That's different than Drew, though, right?" Hailey asked.

"His parents signed away their rights years ago," Grace nodded, "So that's not an issue at all. Right now we're just transferring him from foster to adoption and getting you officially approved. So, yes, a little different, but with him, you don't have to worry about him being taken away."

"Good," Hailey nodded.

"Speaking of," Grace smiled, "What does he think of all this? Is he excited for a baby?"

"I think so?" Jay looked to Hailey, "He's talked about it a little bit. He did ask if we were replacing him and we quickly ended that fear."

Hailey nodded along, "Yeah, and I'm hoping that once we show him these pictures, he'll be even more on board."

"That's great," Grace said, "You could always have him help pick out the things for the nursery or give you name suggestions."

"I like that," Hailey squeezed Jay's hand.

"Thank you for all of this," Jay said.

"Oh, you're welcome," Grace waved her hand, "I'm grateful I met you two back in June. You've really helped me out."

Hailey laughed softly, "We could say the same for you."

Grace smiled and stood, "You've really grown your family in the past few months."

"Definitely," Jay chuckled.

Drew threw his backpack on the ground by the stairs and marched upstairs. He slammed his bedroom door shut and fell on his bed to yell into his pillow.

Hailey closed her eyes at the bottom of the stairs and counted to ten. Drew was mad that Jay had to stay at work because he wanted to talk to him in private and now Jay wasn't coming home until after Drew was in bed.

Hailey sat on the stairs and pulled out her phone. She chewed her lip and debated calling Jay. He was in the middle of doing an undercover deal with Vanessa, but he could have a second. Hailey's thumb ghosted over his name on her Favorites list.

No. He was working. She could figure this out on her own.

She winced as she heard Drew's door open and hit the wall. "I'm not happy!" he yelled.

Hailey put her head in her hands, "I know," she whispered.

"You could always have him help pick out the things for the nursery or give you name suggestions."

She knew Grace was right – Drew would like helping plan for the baby, so maybe this would be the perfect distraction from his anger right now. She stood and hurried into the kitchen, grabbing her laptop and the sonograms before going up to Drew's room.

"Drew," Hailey stepped into his room, "Hey, deep breath for me. We have a lot to talk about."

"Great, I'm going to be punished," Drew mumbled and sat on his bed, "I just really really need to talk to Dad."

"First of all, you are not going to be punished," Hailey sighed and sat next to him, "Second of all, why do you want to talk to Dad?"

Drew bit his lip, "I have to ask him something."

"What?" Hailey asked.

"It…is a boy issue," Drew crossed his arms.

"A boy issue," Hailey raised her eyebrows, "You're seven."

Drew hit the bed, "I can have problems!"

"Okay, okay," Hailey put her hands up, "All right, fine. I won't ask anymore."

"Can I call Dad?" Drew reached for her phone in her pocket.

"No," Hailey covered her phone, "He's working."

Drew groaned loudly and fell back on his bed, "Why? Why do bad things happen to me?"

Hailey rolled her eyes, "Drew, you're being dramatic. You can talk to Dad tomorrow. I'm going to brunch with my mom, you'll have Dad's undivided attention."

"Fine," Drew sighed and pressed his palms into his hands, "Fine, fine, fine."

"Now, sit up," Hailey said and patted his leg, "Up."

"What?" Drew mumbled, but still did as she said.

"Look," Hailey smiled and passed him the sonogram, "Do you know what that is?"

Drew squinted and held the pictures close to his face, "No."

"That's the baby we're going to adopt," Hailey said softly.

Drew's eyes widened, "What?"

"Mhmm," Hailey smiled, "Look, here's his head," she traced the top picture, "And this is his whole body," she pointed to the second picture, "Can you see it?"

"Yeah," Drew whispered and lightly touched the pictures, "Wow."

"Pretty cool, huh?" Hailey said.

Drew nodded and hugged the picture to his chest.

Hailey softly rubbed his back, "What do you think?"

"This makes me happy," Drew looked up at her, "I think I'm going to be a good brother."

"I think so too," Hailey nodded.

"Can I keep these?" Drew asked.

"Really?" Hailey sat back, "You want these?"

"Yeah," Drew smiled at the pictures, "I want to hang them with my others."

Hailey glanced to the pictures taped to his wall next to his bed, "You know, Dad and I can buy you more frames like those," she pointed across the room to the pictures they'd hung up before Drew moved in.

"I like how this looks," Drew looked at the wall.

"Okay," Hailey breathed. She ran a hand through her hair, "Well, how about you take two of them then Dad and I can have the other two?"

"I guess that's fair," Drew said quietly and passed them back to her.

"I'll cut those apart for you in a bit," Hailey set the sonogram on the bed, "But now," she picked up her laptop, "We need to pick out some stuff for the baby."

"Like what?" Drew looked over her arm.

"Like we need to find a crib and figure out what his room will look like," Hailey said and opened Pinterest.

"Whoa wait," Drew grabbed her hand, "Where's he going to live?"

"Dad and I are going to put the office stuff downstairs where that other desk is by the backdoor," Hailey explained.

Drew got off the bed and ran out of the room. He came back a minute later, "Are you sure?"

"Yeah," Hailey nodded, "We're going to put him in the office. We'll change it into a nursery."

"Hmm, I guess that's fine," Drew sat next to her.

Hailey laughed softly, "I'm glad you approve."

Drew nodded, "So what's this?" he pointed to the computer screen.

"It's my addiction," Hailey joked, "But you basically just look at other things people have done and get ideas from them. It's how I made your room."

"Huh, okay," Drew shrugged. He put his dinosaur in his lap, "Boys don't need blue rooms."

Hailey smiled softly and nodded, "You're right."

"But," Drew held a finger up, "I do think a cloud room would be cool cause then it would match my room."

"I like that," Hailey said and started searching for cloud nurseries.

"He needs that for sure," Drew pointed to a picture of cloud wallpaper, "Just like in Toy Story."

Hailey's smile widened, "Okay, I really like that idea."

"We should name him Woody or Buzz," Drew said.

"Um…Dad and I will think about that," Hailey nodded.

"Or Andy!" Drew jumped up and down on the bed, "I have so many ideas!"

Hailey laughed, "You do."

"Ham would be such a funny name," Drew smiled.

"Yeah, we're not going to name the baby Ham," Hailey said.

"That's fine," Drew shrugged.

They scrolled through the website together, pointing out ideas they liked and talking about different name ideas. They weren't exactly on the same page regarding names – Hailey didn't want to name the baby after any Marvel characters and Drew thought naming the baby something 'simple' like John was boring. Hailey didn't care, though, she was just happy that Drew was smiling and calm again.

Jay climbed into bed and gently pulled Hailey against him, "You awake?" he whispered.

"Mhmm," Hailey breathed.

"How is he?" Jay whispered.

Hailey sighed and opened her eyes, turning in his arms to face him, "You're wide awake."

Jay chuckled, "Yeah, I kind of am. Vanessa and I each bought coffee for us twice."

Hailey blinked as she tried registering the math in her head, "Four coffees each?"

Jay nodded, "Yeah."

Hailey smiled and kissed him softly, "What time is it?"

"About 2:30am," Jay said.

Hailey hummed and pressed closer against him.

"Too tired to talk?" Jay whispered.

"A bit," Hailey breathed.

"Fine," Jay tangled his fingers in her hair.

"Don't pout," Hailey said.

Jay chuckled, "I'm not."

"Drew pouted today," Hailey wrapped her arms around his middle.

"About?" Jay pulled the covers tightly around them.

"You, he wasn't happy that you were working," Hailey yawned, "He said he was having boy issues."

Jay laughed, "What does that even mean? He's seven."

"Literally what I said," Hailey smiled.

"I'll talk to him," Jay rubbed her back.

"What a good dad," Hailey slipped her hands under his shirt, "Your skin is cold."

"We were outside for a while," Jay said.

"I don't like it," Hailey whispered.

"Well I'm sorry my body temperature bothers you," Jay kissed the top of her head.

Hailey smirked and pressed her face into his chest, "Am I warming you up?"

"A little," Jay twisted her hair around.

"Oh, he wants to name the baby after Toy Story characters," Hailey said.

"Great," Jay closed his eyes, "We're going to have a Woody."

"Or a Ham," Hailey pointed out.

"Andy's not bad," Jay said softly.

"I like it," Hailey yawned again, "We also think a Toy Story inspired nursery would be fun."

"Like the blue cloud wallpaper?" Jay asked.

"Mhmm," Hailey curled up more.

"You should sleep," Jay whispered.

"I will," Hailey said.

Jay chuckled and held her close, "I love you."

Hailey smiled against his shirt, "I love you too."

"Hey, eyes," Hailey reached over the couch and grabbed the Xbox remote out of Jay's hands to pause the game.

"Hey!" Drew turned to look at her.

Hailey lightly held his chin to look him in the eyes, "You listen to Dad and be good, understood?"

"Yes," Drew blushed.

"I'll be back in a little bit," Hailey kissed his forehead. She turned to Jay, "Be nice to him."

"What're you talking about?" Jay asked with a teasing smile.

"No tickle fights," Drew said.

"Okay, fine," Jay chuckled.

"See you soon," Hailey breathed and kissed him lightly.

"Good luck," Jay whispered as she stepped back.

Hailey took a deep breath, "Thanks."

"If he shows up…" Jay started.

Hailey nodded, "I know."

Jay squeezed her hand and smiled a little.

Hailey smiled back and handed him the Xbox controller, "Have fun."

"We definitely will," Drew said and took the controller from Jay.

"Oh, no you don't you little stinker," Jay laughed and grabbed it back.

Hailey smiled and ran her hand over Jay's hair before leaving the house.

Christine set her fork down and picked up her mimosa, "You really should call your brothers soon and catch them up on your life."

Hailey shrugged, "I'm fine," she took another bite of her omelet.

"You have a boy now," Christine said, "That's exciting."

Hailey smiled slightly, "Yeah, it is definitely exciting."

"Now what was this meeting?" Christine asked, "Is he okay?"

"Yeah," Hailey nodded, "He's perfectly fine. It's just normal procedure."

"Procedure for what?" Christine raised her eyebrows, "Is he sick?"

"No, Mom," Hailey sighed, "It's because he has autism."

"Oh, right," Christine nodded, "Of course."

"Mom," Hailey warned softly, "Do not judge him."

"I'm not," Christine shook her head, "I honestly forgot. He's a very sweet boy."

"Thank you," Hailey said, "I wish Dad thought so instead of saying he has no manners and taking jabs at Jay in front of him."

Christine watched Hailey bite her toast before saying quietly, "You should give him another chance."

"Not gonna happen," Hailey wiped her mouth with her napkin.

"He's your father," Christine insisted.

"And he physically hurts you," Hailey said.

"Keep your voice down," Christine whispered.

"Mom, you can't keep living like this," Hailey put her hand on the table.

"Hailey, I'm the mom, you do not need to worry about me," Christine said.

Hailey shook her head, "I can't believe this."

Christine bit her lip and looked down at her plate, "We should talk about something else."

Hailey sighed and ran a hand through her hair, "I…fine." She looked through her purse and pulled out the two sonogram pictures she hadn't given to Drew. She hesitated then slid them across the table toward her mom.

Christine's eyes widened, "Hailey Anne," her gaze shot to the empty mimosa glass in front of Hailey.

"Don't worry," Hailey said quickly, catching her mom's eyes, "I'm not pregnant."

"Then what is this?" Christine asked.

"Jay and I are adopting a baby," Hailey explained with a small smile.

"A baby?" Christine looked down at the sonograms.

Hailey nodded, "Yes. Just yesterday our social worker told us the mother's agreed. She'll have him in about three months. So our Christmas card's going to be a bit more full – we're going from a family of two to a family of four this year."

"Oh my gosh," Christine breathed, "Hailey," she looked up with tears in her eyes, "Oh, Hailey."

Hailey bit her lip, "Good tears?"

Christine nodded, "Yes. Very happy tears."

Hailey smiled, "Thank you."

Christine got up and walked around the table to hug Hailey tightly, "I am so proud of you."

Hailey closed her eyes and took a deep breath, "Thank you," she repeated quietly.

Christine kissed the top of her head, "You are a beautiful mother."

Hailey smiled and looked down.

Christine sat back in her chair, "Tell me everything."

Hailey weakly laughed, "Like what?"

"Like…you said 'him,' so it's a boy?" Christine guessed.

Hailey nodded, "Yes, she's having a boy."

"And have you met her?" Christine asked, "How'd this even come up? It's completely thrown me for a loop."

"Um…work," Hailey said slowly, "We met her through work. She was in a bit of trouble and we wanted to help out."

Christine raised her eyebrows, "What's that mean?"

"Nothing bad," Hailey shrugged and took another bite of her practically gone omelet.

"Uh-huh," Christine leaned back, "Hailey."

"Just leave it," Hailey said softly, "It's nothing."

"I hope you're better at lying while you're working," Christine crossed her arms.

"I – Mom, don't," Hailey shook her head.

"Is she on drugs?" Christine asked.

Hailey sighed and looked around the restaurant. "Fine," she admitted, "Yes, the mom has been using drugs-"

"Hailey," Christine breathed.

"But we're hoping that since now she knows she has a safe out that she'll stop," Hailey continued, "And her mom's in jail now, so hopefully that'll help since she was giving her the majority of the cocaine."

"Cocaine?" Christine leaned forward, "Hailey, that is a serious drug."

"I know," Hailey rolled her eyes.

"Have you two considered what this means?" Christine asked.

"Of course," Hailey said, "We talked about it a lot and we really think this is what we're meant to do."

"Hailey, getting pregnant would have been a much easier path than this," Christine blurted.

Hailey's jaw set, "Mom, do not go there. This is what Jay and I want right now in our life."

"Taking drugs while being pregnant is very dangerous, Hailey," Christine shook her head, "Nobody wants that."

"We want to help the baby," Hailey leaned forward, "That baby deserves a life filled with love and happiness and security and Jay and I can provide that. You cannot change my mind, so don't even try."

Christine sighed and relaxed, "What does Drew think?"

Hailey smiled slightly, "He's actually pretty excited. He was nervous at first that we wanted to get rid of him, but now that we've discussed names and nursery ideas, he's gotten more used to the idea."

Christine nodded, "Well, I'm glad."

"Thank you," Hailey said softly.

"My baby's going to have a baby," Christine smiled, "Oh, sweetheart."

Hailey blushed, "So you're excited too?"

"How could I not be?" Christine asked.

Hailey rolled her eyes, "Um, the last few minutes really suggested that you weren't going to support us."

"Nonsense," Christine breathed, "Just because I think you've made a difficult choice doesn't mean I'm not going to support you."

Hailey nodded, "I really appreciate that," she smiled.

"What can I do to help?" Christine reached across to squeeze Hailey's hand.

"Our friend is actually planning a baby shower," Hailey said softly, "Would you like to go?"

"I'd love to," Christine smiled.

"Good," Hailey squeezed her mom's hand back.

Jay sat next to Drew on the grass in the backyard, "It's getting colder out, you should start wearing jackets when you bird watch."

Drew shrugged and didn't look away from the woodpecker he was watching.

Jay sighed and slipped his own jacket off, lightly putting it over Drew's shoulders.

"Thanks," Drew said quietly and scribbled something in his notebook.

Jay waited until the bird flew away to finally bring up the conversation he'd had with Hailey in the middle of the night, "Mom said you were pretty bummed you couldn't talk to me yesterday after school."

Drew nodded as he wrote his notes.

"Can you tell me what you wanted to talk about?" Jay asked.

"In a minute," Drew said.

"Okay," Jay leaned back on his elbows and looked around the backyard.

Drew finished and closed his notebook. He got up and ran inside the house.

Jay chuckled and decided to follow him, "What're you doing?"

Drew was going through his backpack, "Looking for something."

"Which is what?" Jay sat on the couch.

"Found it," Drew breathed and brought a piece of paper over to Jay, "This."

Jay took the paper and read it over. He smiled and glanced to Drew, "A dance?"

"A mother-son dance," Drew corrected him, nervously bouncing on the balls of his feet, "Do you think Mom would want to go with me?"

"I think she'd love to go with you," Jay smiled, "But the question is, do you want to go with her?"

Drew bit his lip, "I don't know. I wanted to talk to you because I'm nervous about asking her. I don't like loud noises and a dance seems like it'd be a loud thing."

Jay nodded and patted the couch, "Sit."

Drew sat down and sighed.

"Dances are pretty loud," Jay nodded, "But I think this would be fun and if it does get too loud, I'm sure Mom will be okay with leaving early."

Drew chewed his lip, "You think so?"

"I know so," Jay said.

"Should I wear a suit?" Drew asked.

Jay laughed, "No, I don't think it's that fancy of a dance."

"But I want to look nice," Drew said, "Just like when you and Mom went on a date. This would be a date because I'll have Mom all to myself for a special night. It says right there," he pointed to the paper, "'A special night for boys and their moms.'"

"That is true," Jay smiled, "So if we're going to treat it like a date, then you need to ask Mom out."

"What's that mean?" Drew asked.

"It means that you need to go up to her and say, 'Mom, do you want to go to a dance with me?'" Jay chuckled, "Just like you eventually will to a girl that you like."

Drew blushed brightly, "I don't like girls yet. I can't get married. I'm only seven."

Jay laughed, "I know, I know, but I'm just saying, this will be good practice for your future."

"Oh boy," Drew breathed, "So what do I do?"

"I used to give Mom flowers a lot when I asked her on dates," Jay smiled, "Her favorite are white daisies."

"How do I get those?" Drew whined, "I don't have a lot of money and we don't grow daisies."

"We can go buy some and I will use my money," Jay stood, "And you know Mom likes chocolate, so we'll pick some of that up too."

"This sounds like a lot of work," Drew followed Jay to the door.

"Women are a lot of work," Jay nodded, "But, your mom makes me the happiest guy in the world and," he passed Drew his jacket, "She takes really good care of us, so I will always spoil her."

"Mom's the nicest lady in the entire world," Drew said.

Jay smiled, "I agree."

Drew put his jacket on, "Is that why you picked her?"

"What do you mean?" Jay grabbed his wallet.

"Why did you pick Mom to be your wife?" Drew asked.

"Oh," Jay zipped up his jacket, "Well, your mom was my really good friend first and I realized that I was a better person because of her and that she made me happier than anyone had ever made me before."

Drew nodded, "You've already said that."

Jay chuckled, "It's the truth. I knew I would do anything for her and I never wanted to lose her, so I decided to marry her."

"Did you like that she was pretty too?" Drew opened the door.

Jay laughed, "Oh yeah, that was definitely a factor."

Hailey parked her car in the driveway and ran her hand through her hair. She was just about to get out of the car when her phone rang. Like always, it automatically connected to her car and 'Dad' popped up on the screen.

Hailey sucked in her breath and whispered, "Mom, what did you do?"

She closed her eyes and decided that she didn't need to deal with this right now, so she denied the call and turned the car off. She shook her head and stepped out, walking up to the front door.

"I'm home," she called as she walked in. Music started playing and Hailey looked around confused, "Jay? Drew? What are you doing?" She set her phone and purse on the side table.

Drew walked around the corner dressed in a suit holding a bouquet of white daisies, "Hi."

Hailey laughed, "What's going on?"

Drew knelt on the ground, "Will you go to the mother-son dance with me?"

"Oh my goodness," Hailey smiled, "Are you serious?"

Drew nodded and held the flowers out, "I want to take you on a date."

Hailey shook her head in disbelief, "I…I don't know what to say."

Drew motioned for her to bend down, and when she did, he whispered, "You either say 'Yes' or 'No.'"

Hailey smiled and laughed softly, "Okay."

"So," Drew cleared his throat and repeated, "Will you go to the mother-son dance with me?"

"I would be honored," Hailey nodded.

"Yes," Drew breathed with a smile, "Here, take these," he shook the flowers, "They're for you."

Hailey laughed again and took them, "My favorite!"

Drew's smile widened and he stood, "Dad! She likes them and she said yes!"

Jay walked around and leaned against the wall, "I'm very glad."

"Dad said he used to ask you out with flowers and chocolate, so I thought since it worked for him that it'd work for me too," Drew explained.

"Oh yes," Hailey nodded, "I do love flowers and chocolate," she winked.

Drew smiled and turned to Jay, "Where's the chocolate?"

"Here," Jay passed him the box.

Once Drew gave them to her, Hailey opened the box and smiled, "Oh my goodness, these look delicious."

"You know, I'd really like if we ate some," Drew said.

"Really?" Hailey laughed with a smirk, "Well then, I guess we'll just have to go and eat some."

"Perfect," Drew smiled.

Hailey kissed the top of his head and hugged him tightly, "Thank you so much, sweetheart, you made my day," she walked with him into the kitchen.

Jay chuckled watching them and was about to follow when he heard Hailey's phone vibrate on the table. He walked over to grab it, but paused at the caller-id – her dad was trying to call her.

He took a deep breath and ended the call – that wasn't necessary right now.

Unfortunately for him, that cleared the screen and showed that her dad had already texted her too.

~We need to talk. Answer the phone. – Dad~

Jay bit his lip and looked over to where he could hear laughing in the kitchen.

The phone vibrated again and Jay looked down in time for a new text to flash across the screen.

~A crack baby Hailey? Have you thought about the implications of this? Is your husband pressuring you? – Dad~

Jay felt his blood starting to boil, so he shook his head and set the phone down before doing something he regretted.

"Dad, come on, you're missing all the good chocolate," Drew called from the kitchen table.

"Coming," Jay said and took a deep breath before walking over to them.

A/N: First of all, I cannot believe this is the 50th chapter…thank you thank you thank you to everyone who has read this! Whether you've been with me from the beginning or joined along the way or reading this in the future, I super appreciate each and every one of you. Second, I'm actually going on vacation again for a while and won't be back until August 9 :/. I'm really going to miss you all and writing, but this is the last update you'll get from me for a while. I really hope you'll all still be interested in the story when I come back. There's still so much more to come. Finally, I really hope you enjoyed this gigantic chapter. I wanted to leave you with something happy, but also something that hopefully leaves you wanting more as a 50th chapter and going away gift from me to you. Please let me know what you all think! I'll be back before you know it. Talk soon! :)
