The Alexander Chroniclers year 1: the missing year

I decided to give The Alexander Chroniclers a rewrite so I can correct plot holes and small errors. I have also decided write about Alex´s first year at Hogwarts. Hopefully it will make the Alexander Chroniclers even better. So far the biggest changes will be to book 2 and 3, but I have already planned so changes in book 4.

Chapter 1: The acceptance letter.

An eleven-year-old boy with light skin with a slight tan, messy dark brown hair and light grey eyes jumped down the stairs as his mother had called him down for some unknown reason. This boy's name was Alexander Alphard Bontrari, though he preferred Alex. Alex was a short, quiet, and mysterious kid, but to his mother, he was a little cunning, intelligent, persistent, and a very sweet boy. She knew that if he set his mind to it, Alex could do anything he wanted, and she was right. As Alex reached the kitchen, he slowed down and walked in to it. Inside the kitchen sat a tall woman drinking coffee. She had an elegant face, had long light brown hair and kind brown eyes.

"Good Morning mum."

Cyrina smiled at her son "Good Morning Alexander. I have something for you"

Alex face broke into a smile "do you mean?"

Cyrina held a yellowish letter in front of Alex, there was an H sealed on the envelope." You did turn eleven the first of July, did you think they had forgotten you? Because there have never been doubt that you are magical."

Alex smiled and took the letter he had been waiting to read since he first did his accidental magic and since the first time his mother had told him of Hogwarts. The day of his accidental magic had sadly also been the day his father left. He wasn´t magical, but a muggle. Once he had learned about his magical family, he had stormed out, wanting nothing to do with them. Alex would lie if he said that he didn´t hate the man. However, Alex wouldn´t let the memory, of his father leaving ruin his day, especially since he didn´t remember much of it.

Alex took a deep breath and opened the letter.

PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT FIRST YEARS ARE NOT ALLOWED THEIR OWN BROOMSTICKS

Unlike must boys his age Alex wasn´t too sad about the broom. He didn´t mind flying, but the wizard sport Quidditch didn't say that much to him. Sure, it was fun enough to watch, but playing well it didn´t seem that interesting.

Alex looked at his mother. "Can we go to Diagon Ally today?"

His mother look thoughtful while crossing her arms, "well I don´t know"

Alex looked at his mother with the best puppy eyes he could muster. "Please pretty please. I mean it is a really nice day."

"Well-"

"Please - then I can also read ahead."

"Nice try son, I know that you just want your wand."

"Please-"

Cyrina smiled at her son. "Okay why don´t take a bath put on some clean cloths and then we go later today."

Alex jumped up and down in excitement "Yes yes I can´t wait." He paused, "I can´t wait to tell Blaise and Daphne what kind of wand I get, and to hear what kind they will have."

"Yes, you do that son, I am sure they will be eager to tell you as well, but remember to enjoy the big day okay."

Alex smiled at her mother "of course mum." With those words, he ran up to the stairs and into the bathroom. Ten minutes later he returned downstairs, where his mother was busy witting something. He was wearing a green t-shirt and black jeans "is this okay?"

Cyrina looked at her son "It is fine Alexander. Why don´t you sit and relax for a bit then we go. I just need to finish writing this report."

Alex sighed and went to the couch, grabbed a book and began to read Hogwarts´ History. He noticed his mother was looking at him "something wrong?"

"Nothing son, I was just wondering if you be in Ravenclaw with that brain you have"

Alex grinned. "I don´t want to go to Ravenclaw I want to go to Slytherin like you, grandma and grandpa," he said looking proud. "I mean why would I be in any of the other houses, Slytherin is the best there is."

Cyrina stopped her writing. "Now Alexander, what have I told you about the houses?"

Alex looked up. "That I should be open to all houses, not let house colours keep me from getting friends and not let my house define me." He said as he counted on his fingers.

"Good, I hope you will remember this, having friends in other houses is a nice thing. Trust me on this okay?"

Alex nodded, "I know, but still I really hope that I will be in Slytherin. I mean it is the greatest house." At that, Cyrina smiled.

Two hours later, Cyrina was finally done with her work, and it was time to leave. Alex quickly went over to the fireplace, if he hadn´t been a wizard it wouldn't make sense. However, wizards were able to travel though the fireplaces if they were connected to the floo network. It wasn´t the most comfortable way to travel, but it was one if the quickest way for a magical family. Beside Alex had done it many times. He took up floo powder, which was necessary for traveling that way, and threw it in the fire. As the fire turned green, Alex stepped inside and yelled. "The Leaky Cauldron." Seconds later, he walked out of the fireplace the pub called the Leaky Cauldron. Cyrina followed him seconds after. The pub was crowded with many people talking. Alex couldn't really make out what that was being said, but it sounded like that they talked about the boy who lived. Alex felt someone pulling his hand and he and Cyrina quickly walked through the pub and out to Diagon Alley. As usual, the alley was full of people looking at the different shops. Alex and Cyrina began walking down the alley passing the shops as they walked towards the wizarding bank Gringotts. The bank business was done fairly quickly Cyrina withdrew some money from the Ambrosius family vault as well some from her own personal vault.

"So, I think we shall get your school robes first. You also need some regular ones as well." Cyrina said as the duo exited the wizard bank. Alex signed a bit. He hated shopping for clothes, but his mother´s next sentence made him smile. "Then we should get your wand."

Alex nodded "sure"

As Alex walked in to Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions he saw there already were two boys inside; a short raven-haired boy with green eyes and blonde-haired boy whom Alex recognised as Draco Malfoy. Alex sighed not really wanting to deal with his am pure blood and therefore better then everyone stuff.

"Hogwarts too dear?" Alex nodded at Madam Malkin. "Okay just wait over there."

Alex went over to Draco and the other boy, who were talking. Alex sat on stool between them.

"Ah Bontrari" Malfoy said given him small nod.

Alex looked at Malfoy, "Malfoy."

Malfoy turned his attention back at the raven-haired boy, "as I was saying, they shouldn't let the other in. They are just not the same; they have not been brought up like us. I mean some of them haven´t even heard of Hogwarts before they get the letter. What your surname by the way?"

Malfoy never got his answer, because one of the witches that worked for Madam Malkin came and told him that he was done. Which were good, because Alex had already gotten sick of hearing Malfoy´s propaganda and the green-eyed boy seamed glad that he didn´t need to answer. With a bored face, Draco jumped down "Well see you at Hogwarts."

Alex noticed that the green-eyed boy were giving him a warry look. He was properly wondering if Alex was as bad as Malfoy was. Trying to ease the tension Alex smiled at the boy. "Sorry about Malfoy. He can really act like a git sometimes."

The green-eyed boy smiled back, "yeah he sounded like a snob. He actually reminded me of my cousin."

"I am sorry about that. My name is Alexander by the way, but please call me Alex."

"I am Harry."

"Well nice to meet you Harry" said Alex as he offend his hand to Harry. Harry grinned and accepted and they shocked hands "Nice to meet you too Alex. So you are a first year too?"

Alex nodded, "yeah. I was pretty excited when I got my letter. I have been waiting for it for ages."

"So you have always known that you were a wizard?"

"Pretty much. My mother explained it all to me when I was younger. What about you?"

"No, I have just been told." Harry said quietly.

"Oh so you are muggle-born then?"

"No my parents were magical. I just lives with my relatives, and they are muggles. Is everyone in your family wizards and withes?"

"Well they are on my mother´s side. My father is a muggle though."

"So you know about muggle stuff as well?"

"Only a little bit. Uh my father isn´t around that much, so I have been raised as a wizard since I was six years old." Alex answered, not really wanting to talk about his father. Luckily, Harry sensed that and changed the topic by asking about the magical world.

Alex answered and the two boys continued to chat for a while, having fun. When Harry was finish with the measurements, he bid Alex a farewell and told him that he looked forward to see him at Hogwarts. After a while, Alex was finished as well. Cyrina was waiting outside. "So did you made a new friend Alexander?"

Alex nodded, "Yeah Harry seemed pretty nice."

"Harry who?"

"Uh I didn´t catch his last name." Alex said. "Anyway I think he could be a good friend, but uh mum! Can we get my wand now?"

Cyrina smiled at her son´s enthusiasm "yes"

The two began walking, but as Alex turned to enter Olivander´s shop, his mum stopped him by placing a hand on his shoulder "Not that shop Alexander."

"But shouldn't we get my wand? And I thought that this was the shop everyone uses."

Cyrina looked at him "well yes it is, but I know a better one with better wands"

"Okay, where is it?"

"It is in Knocktun Ally."

Alex stopped, "isn´t that considered a dark place?"

Cyrina smiled, "by some and admittedly there are shops in there that I would never take you. However, the wand shop and many other are just unique."

"But I don´t get it mum. Why is one wand shop that much better?" Alex asked as they walked into the ally.

"You see this wand maker uses many different wand cores, even some duel cores. Instead of the three primary Olivander works with. I believe that a unique core will be better for you. It is only just now this shop have opened a shop in England I had to go to Italy to get mine"

Alex nodded "Okay cool, but why isn´t that the shop everybody uses?"

"The owner doesn´t sell to anyone, but as I said he makes good wands."

Cyrina guided Alex to a dark shop, but it had sort of a powerful aura about it. Mother and son entered the shop were the wand maker already was busy serving a blonde haired woman and a blonde haired girl. Alex recognized them of course having met them many times.

"Agatha, is that you?" Cyrina asked

The women turned around and smiled as he saw who had called "Cyrina, it been too long." Agatha Greengrass had fair skin and blue eyes.

The two women shared a quick hug "It has" said Cyrina "How was France?"

"It was fine and relaxing." Agatha then looked at Alex. "How are you young man?"

Alex smiled shyly at the women, "fine ma´am." Alex´s mother and Agatha Greengrass had been friends for a long time. Agatha had gone to another magic school called Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. Cyrina had met her when she had been an exchange student. Agatha had later come at Hogwarts the next school year and the two witches had kept in contact.

"Mother I have my wand now" said the girl, whom Alex knew as Daphne Greengrass. Daphne was slender, had slightly pale skin, but it didn´t make her look unhealthy, it made her look pretty; she had icy blue eyes and reddish lips.

Agatha turned and smiled "Daphne, come see who is here."

Daphne gave Alex a friendly smile "Hey Alex"

Alex smiled back. "Hey Daph. Did you get a cool wand?"

"Ivy, with centaur hair, ten and a half inches" she said proudly.

There was a little cough behind the deck "next please "

Alex smiled at Daphne "well we can talk later," he said and walked towards the wand maker. He was a short man with greying hair and cold grey eyes.

"Welcome at Kalzo wand shop, I am Mr. Kalzo, might ask for your name?

"It is Alexander Bontrari sir."

"Well Mr. Bontrari let's get you a wand. Can you hold up your wand arm please"

Smiling Alex held up his right arm. Mr. Kelzo began measuring it. "Okay young Mr. Bontrari try this, elder, with griffin hair 12 inches," he said as he held up a wand.

Alex took it eager to see if this was his wand, but nothing happen. He was given a new wand but still it wasn´t the one and so it was with the next and the next and the next.

"Hmm you are one stubborn costumer young Mr. Bontrari, hmm what wand fits you"

Alex looked around in the room and his eyes were drawn to a lone wand box on the top shelf, it was odd, but it gave Alex a strange feeling that it was special. "Uh excuse me but oh what about this one?" He said pointed at the strange wand.

Mr. Kelzo followed Alex gaze "What makes you ask for that wand?"

"I don´t know Sir. It feels like uh like it is special somehow."

Mr. Kelzo looked puzzled. "Strange, this is a duel core wand. I made it a long time ago, but it has never chosen a wizard. Well it wouldn´t hurt I suppose."

Mr Kelzo gave Alex the wand, and as soon he touched he knew it was the one, he just knew it. He could feel the magic waving in his body.

"Strange, this wand his made of ask, 11 inches and it cores is basilisk fang and phoenix feather. It is quite rare for wizard to have such a wand."

Alex grinned, "Cool, I like it already."

"As you should. I have a feeling that we can expect great things from you, very great things." The wand maker said as he packed the wand in its box. "Now the price for this magnificent wand will be eleven galleons."

Alex and his mother paid for the wand and continued their shopping, along with Daphne and her mother who had decided to join them. Alex really enjoyed spending time with one of his best friends. It was pretty cool having someone to talk with about the different school supplies, and both he and Daphne enjoyed reading, although about different things. After having bought their school things plus a few extra books. The two families went to Eeylops Owl Emporium to buy owls for Alex and Daphne. As soon as he entered the shop, Alex´s eyes fell a black owl with some brown feathers. "Hey there little guy." Alex said as he walked over to it, as if the owl had understand him, it hooted happily. Alex smiled a bit, "so what are you like?" He said sticking a finger in the cage, normally he would never do stuff like that. The owl didn´t bite instead it nibbled his finger making Alex chuckle. "Mum I like this one."

Daphne looked up from the owl she was examining at and looked at Alex "hmm almost love at first sight," she said smiling. Both Cyrina and Agatha chuckled.

Alex felt a tiny blush appear on his face, as he realised as he might had been a bit too eager, but chuckled a bit as well "Maybe, but I like him"

Minutes later Alex exit the shop, with the black owl, Daphne had chosen a grey owl.

Now the four of them was enjoying ice cream at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour. Alex and Daphne had stuck up a conversation about Hogwarts, and their expectations to it.

"So Daphne, what subjects do look most forward to?"

"Hmm I guess potions and transfiguration. What about you?"

"Defence and potions, but really all the subjects seams exciting."

Daphne smiled "I know what you mean." She paused as she ate some more ice cream. "Have you given any thought about what house you would like to stay in? I would like Slytherin or maybe Ravenclaw."

"Well uh the same I guess, but actually I don´t really care that much. I mean it not like only Ravenclaw students that are intelligent, a Gryffindor can be that too"

Daphne looked thoughtful "I guess I never thought about that way, but you are right. Beside that not really one house that better then another. Hey let's make a deal, no matter which house we going to end up in, we are still going to be friends I am certain we can get Blaise to join it too."

Alex grinned, "Even if I end up in Gryffindor?"

Daphne laughed "yeah Alex even if you end up as Gryffindor"

"Me a dorky Gryffindor?" Alex smiled, "I doubt that I would end up there."

"Well you are a bit rash sometimes, and that is a lion trait, beside you wouldn't be a dorky Gryffindor."

Alex and Daphne continued to talk, about school and the summer.

As the days passed Alex, continue to enjoy his vacation spending time with his friends, namely Blaise. However, as September got closer Alex began, feeling a bit more tried then he usually did, he had a lot of headaches and a small fever.

However when he woke up the 27th of august, he knew that something was wrong. For one thing he was feeling extremely tried, had a huge headache and felt nauseous. As he tried sitting up Alex found that he also felt very weak. The only thing that happened was that Alex vomited all over himself and felt back on his back, bathed in cold sweat. Alerted to the noise, Cyrina came hurried in, "Alex what- oh my Merlin!" As she saw the mess, Alex had made she was over him with two quick steps, and laid his hand on his forehead. "Sweetie you're burning up."

"I-I d-don´t fee-feel so good." Alex said weakly as he began to chough. Cyrina quickly conquered a bucket, so that Alex could vomit in to it, and he did. Cyrina hated seeing her child like that, once he had stopped vomiting he moaned. "Please make it stop."

"Oh sweetie," Cyrina whispered in a comforting tone, stocking his hair. "I just take your temperature okay."

Alex nodded, but didn´t like the hint of panic in his mother voice. "Okay, b-but you stay right?"

"Yes of course sweetie, work can wait." Cyrina said before waving her wand over Alex before pointing it to a black paper. As she saw the number on the paper. Her eyes whined.

"What is wrong?" Alex asked.

"Alex, does anything else hurt?" As Alex heard his mother´s voice, he started to feel scarred.

"My stomach, heard - everything really and I-I-I can´t really focus. I be okay right? I can go to Hogwarts right?" Alex asked before coughing again. It was pretty bad and each cough really hurt his lungs.

"You will be okay Alex I promise, but we need to take a trip to Saint Mungo's okay:" Alex began to cry a bit, a trip to the hospital would properly mean that he couldn´t go to Hogwarts. "Don´t worry dear, it might be nothing." However, Alex knew it wasn´t because if it were his mother wouldn't be that worried. The healers of Saint Mungo's came pretty fast once Cyrina had called them and after seeing Alex´s condition, they ran even faster. Alex was barely aware of that, was even more unfocused and tried, not even registering that he vomited when the healers tried to move him.

Before he knew it, Alex had been placed in a hospital bed, were he fell asleep. When he woke up, he saw a male healer standing over him. The man was tall and medium build. He had black greying hair, brown eyes and a small bead on his chin "Hallo young man, my name is Charles Sheppard and I am one of your mother´s colleges."

"Hallo Sir," Alex said weakly and begun coughing. "I am Alex."

"So can you tell me if your lungs are hurting?" Sheppard asked as Alex´s coughing fit had ended.

Alex nodded, as the pain had gotten worse, "Y-yeah, I feel really bad." Alex looked at a mirror and was surprised how pale he was. Not only was he pale, but his skin were having yellowish cooler.

"Okay, well listen Alex, you are in good hands, but you have to stay here for a bit okay."

"Will I be able to go to Hogwarts?"

The look the healer gave answered it all and it sucked. "I am afraid that it could be a problem. You have advance Srinx flu. Even when you are better. You still need to be isolated for some time. This sickness you have weakens your immune system." Despite that he didn´t want to, Alex began to cry and once he had started, he couldn't stop. "Hey it will be okay young man, there is next year."

"But what if doesn´t make it?"

The healer smiled, "don´t worry. I promise you that you will be okay. You still very early in your symptoms."

Alex nodded, but to movement made him vomit again, but this time it was over himself. "S-sorry sir."

"It is okay young man." Sheppard said before waving his wand and thus cleaning the sheets. "Now I know that you are worried about going to Hogwarts, but I know you mother have taken care of it."

"How?"

"Simply Mr. Bontrari, she just send me an owl." Alex look at the door. The voice belonged to tall, thin and a very old man. He had a long sliver white beard and hair; it was so long that he could tuck it in his belt. His eyes were a soul-piercing shade of blue that twinkled with kindness, and framed with half-moon glasses.

"Eh sorry but-" Alex was interrupted by a new coughing fit ending with him vomiting, but this time Alex managed to hit the bucket.

"Ah forgive. I am Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. I am headmaster at Hogwarts."

"Yes sir I know but-" Alex tried to sit up, but didn´t had the strength.

"Please lie down Mr. Bontrari." Dumbledore said with a smile. "Otherwise your healer might ask me to leave."

Sheppard laughed, "I wouldn't dream of it Professor."

"I am no longer your professor, Charles you can call me Albus."

"Yes Albus."

Dumbledore moved over to Alex´s bed. "Now Mr. Bontrari I can understand that you might not be able to go to Hogwarts this year."

Alex looked away, "Yeah it sucks." Once Dumbledore begun laughing Alex realized what he had said.

"Yes I can imagine Mr. Bontrari, but I trust that I will see you the next school year?"

"Sorry sir?"

"I trust that you still want to go to my school?"

"Yes sir, but I will I miss the first year now."

"True, but if you read up on the first year collegium, then I see no reason that you couldn't join your year mates."

Alex smiled weakly, "thanks Sir I would love that, but uh how can I study up on the collegium? I mean with no professors."

"We figure that out Alex." Cyrina said, having walked in without Alex noticing.

"Mum did you hear it? I can go to Hogwarts next year." Alex said weakly.

"Yes it is great news son." Cyrina said smiling.

Dumbledore nodded, "yes, there is options for home schooling until you can go to Hogwarts. I can give you some names Cyrina."

"I am very grateful for your help Albus." Cyrina answered before looking at Alex. "Now rest up sweetheart, and then I figure it out. Healer Sheppard can give you something to sleep on.

Alex nodded, as Healer Sheppard gave him a potion in an IV, making him drowsy before it made him sleep. There was still soft moans of pain coming from him, making it Cyrina very had to focus on her talk with Dumbledore.

Alex stay at St Mungo's continued and he hated being sick. Luckily Healer Sheppard quickly found a potion that helped with, but not stopped the vomiting, but it tasted really bad, and it didn´t help with pain, nor did it help him feel better and he also had to take the potion two times a day along with serval other potions. Sheppard was a great healer though, and it was great talking with him, when Alex had the energy to talk.

Daphne and Blaise also spend time with him, but eventually they had to go to Hogwarts. It had been so hard to say goodbye that day. On the first of September Alex looked at the clock as it was nearing eleven. As it hit that time, it was clear that Alex had to wait a whole year until he could go to the school he had dreamt of going.
