The Truth Comes Out
Chap 1: A Blast from the Past
"...And that is how I defeated a dozen goliath with nothing but with a salted mackerel before reinforcements came." The bell rang as soon as he finished that sentence. With the bell also waking up the students who fell asleep. For me, well if it wasn't for my training, I would have joined the others in dreamland. "Oh, how sad my class is so short. Either way, I want a report about class as usual. Carpe Diem class." The teacher said. His name was Professor Port. A good teacher he is but a good story teller? Not in the slightest. A good fighter? Yes. A good story teller? Hell no. He can fight but when it comes to his stories, he tends to exaggerate a lot to the point one can't if he is telling the truth or not. Not to mention he tends to fancy himself and tries to put himself as the center of the story.
You might be wondering who I am. Well my name is Jaune Arc. Normally I would add to it, something along the lines of the name impressing ladies but I'm not going to. I have always hated that line. Also, about my name, it's a cover. My actual name is different, well my last name anyway. But I'm not going to tell you yet. I don't trust you enough to tell you yet. You might be wondering what the cover is. Well to put simply I am a sp...
"Will Jaune Arc report to the headmaster's office. Thank you." The P.A. system said. As soon as it turned off, I could already hear snickering all around me. You should know that part of my cover is to act like a complete failure and idiot. Doing this it soon made everyone come up with the expression "made a Jaune." Which is basically saying doing something only I would mess up at. Sighing I got up and headed towards the headmaster's office which was the tallest building around which for some reason was a clock tower. Heading there will take a few moments will take some time so I best get there now.
Heading out of the classroom I went in the direction to the headmaster's office. The headmaster is Professor Ozpin. A wise man who leads the school with the Vise head mistress Glynda Goodwitch. She is a no-nonsense type of person. She is a respectable and strict but fair person. She teaches many classes here and always keeps the students in line when they start to get out of control. I have immense respect for her. Doing all this by herself is an achievement in of itself. I feel sorry for her that she has to put up with all this with little to no help from the others. Well, to be honest there is only a handful of staff here since the oh so wonderful and wise council of Vale keeps cutting the budget. I also feel guilty when I either accidently/involuntary give her trouble. The same cannot be said about the headmaster. I do not trust him. Since the first moment I saw him and hear him speak I knew there was more than meets the eye about him. I could tell that every movement from him had purpose. Every action had intention behind it. Too shifty he is if you ask me. Oh right, I should tell you where I am to avoid any more confusion than I probably already gave. Well I am at Beacon Academy. School for aspiring huntsman/huntresses to train their skill and become fully fledge huntsman/huntresses when they finish studying here. Well that was the initial purpose sold to the public and it was like that in the beginning but that changed over the years. Before it was to train and protect the people from the grim, which are creatures of the night which destroy all that is in their path, to becoming what is basically a popularity school for show offs. Also, the more I stayed here the more and more certain this school is basically a cover up of training people when it really is housing something more dangerous.
Shaking my head to clear my thoughts I continued my way the headmaster's office. There was a time and place for those thoughts and right now isn't it. With that I continued my walk towards the headmst5er's office while trying to figure out why he wants to see me. 'Perhaps it was something I did? Something my team did? Upcoming mission? A scolding for my "poor" performance? My forged transcripts? Well, only one way to find out.' I thought as I neared the elevator that will take me to the office. Entering it I pushed the button that will take me to the correct floor level. Right, before I reach the correct floor level, I should clarify something. One thing you need to get into Beacon is transcripts from your previous combat school. But the thing is I never went to a combat school for huntsman/huntresses. I was trained differently from the rest. I was trained not to fight grim but to fight another dire threat. So, of course in a school full of semi-trained huntsman/huntresses my performance would be mediocre at best, but that doesn't mean I won't adapt to the situation and perform at my best and beyond. That was one thing I was trained for. To adapt and survive in any situation. Too bad I don't have my favorite problem-solving tools with me. Also, about the transcripts, they were forged as because like I just said I never went to a combat school before this, so yeah, they were forged.
10 minutes later
*ding* The sound of the elevator doors opening up snapped me out of my thoughts. Stepping out of the elevator I headed down the hall where the headmaster's office is. Getting there took a few more minutes. The place is much larger than it looks from the outside okay. Getting to the door I knocked three times before waiting for answer. I didn't have to wait long for a replay to come.
"Come in." Said someone inside. With that I entered the headmaster's office ready for whatever is too come. Hopefully it won't take too long and isn't too bad. But I won't know until he says, all I can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst. But honestly, anything he will say I am prepared for as I have gone through much worse. So, there won't be much that he can say that will unsettle me or take me of guard. But all that went right out the window as soon as I entered the office.
"Hello Jaune." Headmaster Ozpin greeted me.
"Hello headmaster Ozpin." I greeted him then turned to the person next to him. "Morning Professor Goodwitch." I greeted her next.
"Hello Jaune." She greeted me back with a small but rare smile. After a while of being a student of hers, I began to feel like I was one of her favorite students. Maybe it was because I actually tried my best not to give her more unnecessary work or stress or trouble.
"You're probably wondering why I called you here Jaune." Said Ozpin
"Ye- of course headmaster." I corrected myself quickly. Still a bit of habit is left in me when answering someone in a higher authority. Still, despite what was drilled into me I still have to maintain my cover.
"Well Jaune. I will get to the point. Me and the rest of the staff have always known about your forged transcripts. Yet I decided to keep you here to see how a person with no combat experience at all would fair against those with combat experience. And I will say that it's safe to say that you have shattered my expectations. You started with no combat experience and now have enough experience to actually study here as if you actually applied here for real." He said with a smile while sipping coffee from his mug. This revelation, while it left me a bit surprised still did not shock me too much. Also, I think Ozpin is a coffee addict with how much coffee he drinks.
"Indeed Mr. Arc. You have improved tremendously from when you have once started here. Not to mention you have shown great leadership skills. Skills which rival out top fourth year students. Not to mention despite everything we have thrown at you, you have never cracked under the pressure and always remained calm. I am most pleased with your progress." Glynda said with a smile. I could almost sense the pride and joy coming off of her at seeing one of her students' progress so much.
"Not to mention Mr. Arc, your test scores have improved significantly. You were second to the bottom of my class and now you are near the top of the class. I am most pleased with your progress. Keep it up." Said a new voice. I turned to see Professor Port and Doctor Oobleck coming into the office together.
"Yes Mr. Arc. Your grades have improved by a large margin. You were barely passing my class before and now you are second to the top of my class trailing behind Ms. Schnee. I must say I have never seen a student like you improve yourself so much. I do hope you keep it up." Said Doctor Oobleck.
"Not to mention you are the only student who actually stays awake during my stories in class. The rest think I don't notice them sleeping but I do yet you have never once fallen asleep in my class. I thank you for showing respect to me by staying awake and following the class." Professor Port thanked me.
"But this is only part of what we have to say. First was we just wanted to congratulate you for surpassing our expectations and improving so much in such a short amount of time. But there is something else we ask of you." Ozpin said with all seriousness. At this I raised my eyebrows wondering what could they need my help for.
"You might be wondering what it is, so here it is. A new student is here and we don't have a team available for her yet. So, I'm placing you in charge of keeping her safe and informed and showering her around while keeping her informed. She will be under your care until we can find her a team to take her." Ozpin said.
"Sure Ozpin. But where will she stay? She can't stay in my dorm as there is no more room to fit I another bed." I asked. I'm not opposed to having her in my dorm but there is just not enough room. She can use my bed and I can just sleep on the floor but I don't think the rest of my team will agree with me on that.
"We have that covered already Mr. Arc. We have another dorm ready for use in case of situations like this that might arise. However, you will also be dorming with her as being the leader means you must keep an eye on each of your teammates and make sure they are comfortable and are in top health." Glynda Goodwitch added to it. With that I was honestly a bit taken back but quickly regained my composure. But it does make sense. A leader's responsibility is too their team and making sure that each one of them is taken care of and in good health.
"Where is the new student?" I asked as I wanted to get to know her a bit before leaving the office and going to the new dorm.
*Knock Knock*
"Ah, here she is now. Come in" Ozpin said. And who walked into the room made me take a step back and have sweat start to form on my head.
In just walked a girl who looked to be around my age.
I knew her and this could cause a lot of problems and will highly likely blow my cover.
In just walked Natalia Price
Daughter of my old captain.
Captain Price to be exact
Only one thing I could think of as the situation unfolded itself.
'Ah, shit. Here we go again.'
