A Future They Deserve

Hello readers, welcome to the first fanfic on this account. I've had an account with two stories before but I'm starting anew as a writer. Anyways, I HAD to write this because the tiny epilogue where the scene cuts off just before Yuzuru's reincarnation reaches for Kanade's reincarnation is so unsatisfying. I know, watchers are supposed to imagine what comes next themselves but that's still unfulfilling. So I've made it my mission to write a satisfying fanfic which should be at least similar to a proper ending. Here goes.

I do not own Angel Beats!

Chapter 1: Fateful reunion

Otonashi Yuzuru was walking down the street of his hometown. He liked sunday afternoon walks, it put his mind at ease. The wind's sound was a sound he thoroughly enjoyed.

Yuzuru suddenly heard another sound, a humming sound. The melody was pleasant to hear, the voice behind that even more so. Truly a beautiful clear voice.

A realization crept into his mind. The boy had heard that melody before, and not only that. He'd also heard that voice before. Not physically, an entire new memory was created out of nothing. He'd never heard either with his own ears before but these tones were all of a sudden familiar in his mind.

Thinking the person humming the melody also had to be familiar to him by that logic he turned around, finding his eyes watching a petite girl his age leaning on a shop window. She wore a plain white dress and a short blue blouse with short sleeves on top. Her white hair beneath a beige hat was formed into a short ponytail. She also carried a white handbag with green straps with her.

Yuzuru couldn't see her eyes as she was looking at her phone, though her face fully appeared in his mind. The girl's eyes were golden, her hair was actually fairly long. She was breathtakingly beautiful. Yuzuru also knew her name that moment despite having never technically met. New emotions he's never had before suddenly felt natural, and so did all these new memories appearing out of nowhere. 'Kanade…'

As the white-haired girl who awakened something within him put her phone into her phone and began walking away Yuzuru ran after her. The redhead desperately wanted to meet the girl he loved so much again.

"Excuse me!" Yuzuru spoke up, touching her left shoulder with his right hand. She stopped walking, turning toward the boy who approached her. "That melody you just hummed, it felt familiar. If you don't mind, would you please tell me the name of it?"

"Honestly, I don't know. I've always known of this melody for some reason and I haven't given it a name yet." she answered, looking into his dark red eyes with neutral eyes.

"Is that so?" Yuzuru rubbed the back of his head while smiling. The redhead smiled because that pretty much confirmed his memories were real in a way. "By the way, this may be weird, but is your name Tachibana Kanade by chance?"

Kanade's golden eyes widened, she put one foot of her backwards. "Why yes, how did you know?"

"By instinct." he answered honestly. "Perhabs me telling you that my name is Otonashi Yuzuru would explain it, or perhabs not. I'm certainly taking my chances."

Kanade's golden eyes widened again, shimmering. She stood silent for a couple of seconds. As Yuzuru observed her he realized she was going through the same process he did not long ago.

"Yuzuru…" The girl almost jumped forward, embracing him tightly. Her head was resting on his chest, she could listen to his heartbeat. "We're together again."

"Yes, we are…" The boy returned the embrace, his arms firmly hugging her back.

"I love you Yuzuru, I can finally say it now! I love you so much!"

Tears streamed down her face. Onlookers watched the scene with interest. They looked like lovers in a movie meeting again after being seperated for years.

Technically that was true, they were seperated their entire lives. But no longer, no longer. "So do I, Kanade. Let's live our lives together."

Their tight hug lasted so long the original onlookers grew bored and went on with their business.

Being late afternoon, Yuzuru walked Kanade home. "What school are you in?"

"That private highschool in the eastern ward with the blue roof." the redhead replied, the white-haired hugging his arm as they walked.

Kanade's golden eyes widened yet again in disbelief. "What?! That's also my school!"

Yuzuru shook his head before looking at his love, perplexed. "So you're telling me we've been going to the same shool all along and haven't noticed each other?" They were both 2nd years, that meant they've been in close vicinity for over a full year without knowing about their existence.

"Fate is weird I guess. If god is real maybe he wanted us to meet today." Kanade shrugged.

"Now that I think about it, it doesn't matter as long as we stay together from today on." Yuzuru wrapped his free arm around her. "Come to think of it, what about the others?"

Their reuning gave Kanade her memories about their other friend back so she answered rather freely. "Naoi is my Student Council Vice President, I know it since I'm the Student Council President again. Hinata is the school's baseball team captain. Yui and Iwasawa are in the school band. Yuri is the school's judo club captain. About everyone else, I really don't know."

"Let's find out tomorrow then."

The pair stopped in their tracks, they arrived at Kanade's home. She pulled her keys out of her bag but turned to Yuzuru again. "It's goodbye for today, huh? Yuzuru, can you…"

He kissed her cheek. The blushing white-haired girl didn't have to spell it out. Her eyes glowed with love. "Here you go, we can do that again tomorrow."

"Goodbye Yuzuru."

"See you tomorrow Kanade." The redhead contently turned away, ecstatically walking to his own house. So far his day had been blessed and he hoped his days would continue to be blessed for the rest of his life. A simple wish actually, it involved but one condition. His love had to be by his side, that was simply all.

After opening his home's door Yuzuru met his younger sister Hatsune in the hallway. She'd been alive and well his entire life, a stark contrast to his past life's dead and sick Hatsune. Smiling thinly he simply hugged the confused girl.

"What's this for Yuzuru, you never hug me like this." Hatsune wanted to now.

"Nothing, just a reminder that I love you and how precious you are to me." His sister didn't question it, her brother truly was happy with those closed eyes and not so thin smile anymore. Heck, if his eyes were open she'd even see his tears.

"Say, wanna go shopping tomorrow?"

His suggestion hit the younger Otonashi like a brick. "What is with you, that's the first time you are asking me to go shopping with you! Normally it's me dragging you along."

"You can say it's a change of heart." he earnestly replied.

"Yuzuru, Hatsune! Dinner is ready!" their mother called from the kitchen.

"I see you're deep in thought." Mr. Otonashi observed, sitting across his son. The family ate green lentil soup. "What are you thinking about my son?"

"Nothing, just about my great and bright future."

Phew. Chapter 1 of 3 is finished. I'm gonna be frank, there's not much to write. This is an idealized world with little to no struggles for the cast. Chapter 2 will basically be Kanade and Yuzuru meeting up with their friends and Chapter 3 will be a timeskip to the future. Regardless of this fanfic's length I WILL put my heart into it though, I love this series and I want this to be as satisfying as possible. Peace out.

Review this if you like.
