What's up my bois. It's your silent and for nearly 3 years afk author aGoldenLion!
I have no reason for being afk for so long simply because I didn't feel like writing. But the coming months I'll be writing a little here and there.
For my other stories, A lot of stuff has been written but I'm not completely happy with it so it will take some more time to finish.
I was watching some Oregairu and read some new fics but I miss some real gems, so I need to pick it up I guess.
I'm not sure how long this story will be, not sure where I want to go to but I think it will be a good one.
Updates will be irregular and the chapters might not be as long as I usually write them, but if the content is OK than it doesn't really matter imho.
Have fun reading!

Inner monologue
In a busy restaurant in the heart of Chiba city there was a small corner completely devoid from sound. Though the weather outside, the talking people around them and the never ending traffic were being heard, there was a certain stillness.
One of the quiet customers, not speaking but only observing, was monotonously sipping from his cold cup of coffee. the taste reminding him of the tension in the air.
''I'm kind of hating today'' He thought to himself as the other parties were uneasily staring at each other, with the new guests sending him a quick stare every few seconds.
The day for Hikigaya Hachiman couldn't have ended any worse. A fake riajuu managed to convince him after trying and trying to come and hang with his friends. But it was Haruno who convinced him to go on a double date with his Middle School trauma and her annoying friend. ''What was she called again, Chipo?''
''...that scary nee-san..'' Hikigaya bitterly muttered in his palm.
The uncomfortable feeling kept growing and growing, with Orimoto reminding him over and over again how much of a creep he was, how his eyes prevented him from succeeding at anything, and the disgusting pity Hayama showed in his awkward smiles.
''At least I managed to finally end something that never started'' Hikigaya said to himself when he sent a quick stare at a mostly petrified Orimoto.
A bit later, with the girls going to the ladies room, Hayama gave his opinion about himself and how he was certain neither of us ever liked anyone truly, that he felt sorry for his past mistakes but does want to change. He has changed he said. ''You are a monster of logic, Hikigaya''
''Speaking of change, what have you been changing in your life.'' Hikigaya thought as the fake smile plastered on his face began to crumble.
''Everyone's Hayama Hayato is right here'' Hikigaya said to himself as Hayama neither spoke or smiled to the newcomers.
But if life didn't beat him enough for the day, everyone's favorite Onee-san made her presence known. His ahoge had picked her up much earlier, presumably to have some fun.
Haruno joined the quartet and waited for the fireworks to go off. Often she'd sent Hachiman a cruel smile when the girls would try to put him down again and again.
As a being that was desensitized to their 'fun' Hikigaya kept ignoring them until a gasp made him turn. The arrival of Yukinoshita and Yuigahama was a fact.
The tension by now had lasted for about a minute. Hikigaya was perfectly fine, same as Haruno who kept on smirking in a robotic fashion.
It was Yui who took the first step by closing the distance between herself and the tables where the quartet said. ''Y-Yahallo Hikki and Hayama-kun!'' Yuigahama said a bit uncertain.
Her bubbly voice broke the awkward silence that held everyone in their grip. Hayama plastered a new smile on his face and spoke to the girls that were silently wondering what was going on.
''These girls. Hikigaya isn't the loser you two think he is. He's friends with girls who are much cooler than you." Hayama said with an edge in his tone. ''I don't like it when girls put other people down.''
Hikigaya's mouth opened up, but barely, before his slow and boring said "Could you stop making selfish comments after making only surface judgments?"
''They..'' Hikigaya continued as he pointed at their 'dates' as something insignificant ''Their opinion and what happened today meant nothing to me. I know my own worth, I don't need anyone else to tell me what I am or what I am not worth.''
Haruno's eyes lit up in both surprise and a new target for her fun. ''Ara Hikigaya-kun, wasn't she the one from our little café date the other day?''
Hikigaya grumped before replying with a small sneer in his voice ''Yes... thank you for reminding me, Yukinoshita-san.'' with a frown on his face. ''...also it wasn't a date..'' he slowly continued as he felt a certain cold gaze on him, causing his voice to tremble a bit.
A cheeky smile blossomed behind Haruno's hand as she riled up her little sister and her interesting club mate again. ''But enough about you Hikigaya-kun, why is my dearest sister here?''
Her reply was a sigh and shaking head from Hikigaya in disinterest. Her eyes moved to Hayama who smiled sheepishly and pointed to his phone.
Haruno looked at her sister, who stared coldly at Hikigaya. ''Ara Yukino, texting with Hayato behind Hikigaya-kun's back? tsktsktsk what would mother say if she'd see you now.''
Almost immediately the room temperature froze to below zero as Yukino's face became completely devoid of emotions. Her calculative stare on Hikigaya turned from indistinctive to furious. ''Do not create trouble when there is none!'' Yukino squawked when her cheeks turned red. a red none would address to a blush. ''You are perfectly aware why Hayama-kun has my contact details.''
The cold gaze from Yukino and the challenging gaze from Haruno clashed for a few moments, causing Yuigahama to move two steps closer to Hachiman, the 'dates' to make themselves smaller and Hayama to do nothing at all but forcing the artificial smile to remain on his face.
It was then a new presence made itself known.
''Oh dear, do my eyes deceive me and are my daughters fighting, or am I seeing two girls that know how to behave in a public setting.'' a cold but elegant voice cut through the tension.
A voice, unknown to Hikigaya, caused the sisters to stand ramrod straight. Their public masks shattered and the tiniest reflection of fear became visible on their tense faces.
No pride or haughtiness, only sheer terror when a pair of advancing clicks on the floor came closer to the group. Hachiman, who couldn't be bothered, lifted his gaze from his cold and empty cup. His gaze went from Yukino to Hayama, then to Haruno before going back again. Registering emotions that he hadn't seen on the girls before.
Slowly he flicked his gaze to the newcomer and waited for her to speak.
She was dressed in a dark purple kimono, fitted with a tasteful flowery design. Her approach was graceful, but to his keen eye quite terrifying. Her lips were meticulously formed in a pleasant and approachable smile, though her cold, blue eyes sparked with danger. To him she was a walking enigma.
The slow bobbing of her black hair-bun halted when she came to a silent stop between her daughters, grasping their attention with a quiet click of her shoes.
Her grin, though on the outside not changing, felt to him as mocking as she stared at her daughters. The power she held over them palpated off of her.
''Oh Yukino and Haruno, my dearest daughters. Why would you meet your mother with silence, I wonder...'' Mrs. Yukinoshita muttered behind her small hand.
Her tone caused her daughters to unfreeze for a moment and pull their masks back on. Haruno's tensed face returned to her indifferent and playful mask almost instantaneously whereas Yukino took a moment to collect herself and take a deep breath. After calming herself she was able to meet her mother's gaze, but only barely.
The playful look, as she had instilled in her eldest daughter, carefully went through the crowd. After instantly dismissing both girls trembling in the corner she noticed three other individuals wearing the same school uniforms as her youngest daughter.
The blonde hair and fake smile were familiar to her. ''My goodness, it's Hayato. It has been quite a while.'' Mrs. Yukinoshita said gently. ''I do hope you've been taking up those extra lessons with your grandfather.'' she added calmly. ''The last time my husband wasn't very impressed with your advice.''
Hayama's face didn't change in the least as he bowed to her. ''I will work harder next time..'' He said, but Mrs. Yukinoshita had her attention on the next person already.
''I'm afraid I only know Hayato from your school.'' She began as she looked at Yuigahama, who was unable to meet her gaze. ''Who might you be?''
Yui, try as she might, looked at either Hayato, why pretended nothing was going on, to Hikigaya, who was paying attention to a nearby fly on a wall, before looking at Yukino with a teary face.
''Mother please, this is my clubmate Yuigahama Yui.'' Yukino said tensely. a quiet but happy ''Yukinon'' followed soon after.
One small warning out of the corner of her mother's eyes and Yukino caved and remained quiet.
''I hope you and my daughter can, within reason, improve your relationship to a suitable standard in our society.'' Mrs. Yukinoshita continued and fixed Yuigahama with a perfect smile.
Yuigahama's lips moved to an O shape, trying to form words in response, though quickly closed under Mrs. Yukinoshita's stare.
Finally, her eyes moved to the only other male in the group, squashing a fly with his eyes.
Suddenly he felt several gazes on him, causing him to look around. Haruno stared blankly, Yui and Yukino looked a bit frightened and Hayama was staring uneasily at him.
Hikigaya was a bit weirded out before going back to what he was doing, only now his view was interrupted by their guest.
His eyes followed up the flowery design before meeting the cold gaze of Mrs. Yukinoshita.
''Good afternoon..'' She began as her eyes locked onto his before she instantly lost her breath.
One moment turned into the next, though both eyes never severed their connection their stares were hard and unreadable.
Their staring, not cold or hostile in nature at all, was to the knowing eye a long conversation.
Several emotions, positive and negative, clashed both ways.
For a good few minutes the air was palpable with emotions before it dispersed. Both pairs of eyes now swimming with fond recollections of times past.
Mrs. Yukinoshita, uncaring of the others, crossed her delicate arms and lifted one of her finely manicured eyebrows.
It was all it took for Hikigaya to make a deep bow and whisper ''...I'm sorry..''
Mrs. Yukinoshita, close enough to hear it, closed her eyes and let out a small sigh. ''...then you're forgiven, Hachiman.'' She muttered before closing the distance.
She came down on one knee, keeping herself fully covered by her kimono, before reaching for his chin. a soft gaze, much softer than she held for her daughters, caught his attention and allowed her to lift his face up to his normal height.
''Isn't that far better, Hachiman. You're old enough to respond a bit more maturely, don't you agree~?'' She teasingly asked.
Haruno and Yukino, though silent, were shocked by the fact that she would never use such a voice outside of their home. Even at home the amount of times she used it was very, very limited.
''Uhhh Mother, could it be that you know Hikigaya-kun?'' Haruno asked as she voiced what everyone was thinking.
Mrs. Yukinoshita's soft gaze sharpened instinctively when she looked at her daughter.
''I don't recall that I need to inform you about personal affairs.'' She replied to her daughter. ''...and as you can see, dearest daughter of mine, I am currently rekindling my relationship with Hachiman, so stop being a bother will you.''
Thoughtfully, Mrs. Yukinoshita looked at Hachiman and the small table in front of him. looking back and forth before almost unnoticeably clenching her fist. a clench her youngest daughter inherited from her.
''Hachiman, be a dear and push this table away for me.'' She asked and in no time at all he picked the table up put it down a meter away.
''Is this okay, Mrs. Yukinoshita.'' He asked, but received a small tap on his forehead in return.
''You know what you can call me, Haa-chan~'' She softly voiced, causing him to blush.
a small laugh, pleasant to the ears, came from behind her hands before closing the distance between herself and Hikigaya.
She stroke her kimono at the legs before taking a seat sideways on Hikigaya's legs.
If the silence wasn't deafening before, it certainly was now as even Hayama lost control of his jaw.
Mrs. Yukinoshita stared around smiling, subtly warning the others to stay quiet.
''Do you remember the last time we sat like this, Hachiman?'' She asked kindly when she turned her face back to him.
''ahh...mmm...'' Hikigaya tried to reply, but his senses were currently overloaded. A warm body was almost firmly pressed against his body, a firm posterior pressing down on his legs and an intoxicating smell wafted from Mrs. Yukinoshita's hair.
a quiet chuckle grasped his attention as her playful eyes searched for his. ''I'm going to have so much fun with you, Hachiman.'' she whispered, causing Hikigaya's blush to even turn his ears red.
'...'
Their connection was broken when a server dropped her tray a few tables away, causing a small amount of tumult.
It was enough to regain some manner of decorum.
The 'dates' left soon after Mrs. Yukinoshita slid next to Hikigaya on the couch.
She sent a couple of cold looks after the girls and mocked them for being unable to grasp Hachiman's true worth before they could leave.
Mrs. Yukinoshita also prevented both of them from apologizing and warned them to stay away from him.
Hikigaya didn't say it, but he felt some weight fall from his shoulders. He was very much aware that not many would dare to cross her.
The others, being Yukino, Yui, Haruno and Hayato, tried to move their heads around the current situation.
A light conversation between Hikigaya and Mrs. Yukinoshita spread a small smile on both of their lips ending just as quick when the barista returned with refreshments.
Mrs. Yukinoshita, softly blowing on her black tea, stared intensely at Hikigaya, who was trying to take a sip from his can of MAXX.
Her stare remained on him for a little longer before closing her eyes. ''After all this time you still fancy that overly sweeted swill'' she murmured.
His response, a well reversed groan, caused her to turn the edges of her lips up and took a small gulp.
She put her cup down with a soft clink before addressing him again. ''I wasn't aware you knew my daughters, Hachiman.''
Hikigaya coughed awkwardly as he looked at the aforementioned girls. ''...knowing them wouldn't be a term I'd use.'' He replied.
''Ooh..'' Mrs. Yukinoshita replied at first, staring at her daughters. ''Do tell, Hachiman. I am most interested in knowing how life has been treating you.''
Hikigaya, even if he wanted to, could never lie to her. He told her about his class, the club, the requests, his social suicide at the festival and finally the Kyoto trip.
Mrs. Yukinoshita hummed to herself for a minute, staring in the eyes of everyone present during Hikigaya's explanation. At times it would be questioningly, insulted, irritated and embarrassed.
''...I see. Thank you for that, Hachiman.'' She eventually replied as she rubbed her temples. ''It hasn't been easy for you, but that's something we both knew.''
''Hmm..'' Hikigaya replied as he solemnly nodded, taking another sip from his can.
''We will have words about your self-sacrificing nature though..'' Mrs. Yukinoshita mentioned in the same breath, freezing Hikigaya in his place.
Looking at Hikigaya for a moment longer, she fixed her stare on her oldest daughter.
''Haruno. Tell me.. what is possessing you to actively follow your sister and other high schoolers around?'' Mrs. Yukinoshita demanded with a popped vein on her face.
Her daughter, the third most rotten being in the world after Hikigaya and Isshiki, blushed till the roots of her hair were deep red.
Those who really though to know her, knew absolutely nothing. Her confident, charismatic and sensual aura she exuded made no impact under her mother's gaze as she was forced to reply in an awkward way.
''I did it for Yukino-chan..'' Haruno confessed softly.
''Ooh?'' Mrs. Yukinoshita replied. ''..and what about your own future? How are your grades? Have you met with your father lately to continue your training?''
Haruno was assaulted with many questions, but had no positive answer for any of them. In the end, she quaked under her mothers sharp gaze with a cheesy grin.
''..mattake..'' Mrs. Yukinoshita moaned depressively. ''Your father and I give you every opportunity to grow, but instead you stalk your sister.''
''Mrs. Yukinoshita...'' Hikigaya said to grab her attention. With her focus back on him, Hikigaya whispered ''Your oldest daughter is really, really scary. She does many things to rile others up, often to me..'' He grumbled, causing Mrs. Yukinoshita to glare at her eldest daughter. Hikigaya tugged on her kimono to get her attention back. ''..but I know she does it with good intentions. I am sure.''
''Alright, very well Hachiman.'' Mrs. Yukinoshita replied with a small sigh. ''Yukino, what do you have to say for yourself?''
The eyes her daughter shared with her were caught off-guard when she was addressed.
''In school and outside of it I have continuously kept a proper decorum, level of respect and high grades.'' Yukino automatically replied. ''Any and all other rumors are false and unproven.''
''...than perhaps you would like to respond to the following. What is a Hikigerma, a Hikilying-kun, a Hikipedia, a Hikifroggaya or a Fishigaya?''
If the question wasn't asked by her mother she'd probably exploded in laughter.
After a minute of staring at either her mother or Hikigaya, she stayed quiet.
''I rest my case.'' Mrs. Yukinoshita finally said. ''Yukino, my youngest daughter. I can't find the words to express how disappointed I am.'' causing her daughter to gasp.
''Your father and I, we have never taught you to dislike someone simply because of different features.'' she continued as her stare pressed on her daughter. ''I'm afraid you and everyone else here don't know Hachiman's true value.''
''Yuigahama-san.'' She started. ''I do not know your role in Hachiman's life. I do not know if you are an improvement or a detriment so I can not address you. Just keep in mind that he is important to me.''
A sly grin, much like her eldest daughter, was shot to Hikigaya. Though he turned his head away, everyone could see the red on his ear-shell.
The last bit of fondness left her eyes as she turned towards the final person in the room. Her face was completely devoid of emotion. No warmth or coldness was left in her voice.
''Hayato. over the years that you've been in the lives of my daughters there is nothing in particular that I can tell. You were a +1 at all times. At first it was your grandpa +1, it moved onto your parents +1. In all these years you have not changed at all, like a cloud in the sky perhaps? You were always there, people would stare to look at the beautiful but never changing clouds.'' Yukinoshita-san began calmly. ''I have never been able to form an opinion about you, as you were always there, or were you? When you and Yukino were overseas and the bullying started I expected this result to happen, that you would simply let it continue because it threatened to change your way of life, regardless of the fact she was your first acquaintance. But you can feel happy with the fact that I finally managed to sort my opinion out.'' she ended with a smile.
Her smile looked very much out of place on her blank face. Hikigaya felt a cold shiver run through his spine and couldn't imagine what Hayama was feeling at that very moment.
''Hayato, I do not like you at all. You are only comfortable when nothing happens. Any change to your quiet life and you are willing to abuse and manipulate others to do your bidding with the same smile you have plastered on your face right now.'' Mrs. Yukinoshita calmly spoke. ''You are very much your parents' son as I can see these same 'qualities' in them. In their profession, a lawyer or a medical professional, it is mighty convenient to remain calm and not let your emotions interfere with your professional judgement.''
In front of her children, it was the first time she dressed anyone down verbally.
''I am aware I am a difficult mother. I know that I can be hard to them, but I do so because I love them. Because I want to make sure that they are strong. That they don't feel the necessity to rely on the approval of others but can learn to live freely.'' Mrs. Yukinoshita continued on, causing her daughters to glance between their mother and Hikigaya.
The impact on the ever perfect Hayama was great. With each of Mrs. Yukinoshita' sentences his mask slowly began to crack. Each passing moment his body began to tremble more and more. On the outside he tried to show no emotion, but even those not familiar with him could feel him boiling in anger.
Mrs. Yukinoshita forced a fake gasp out of her lips. ''Oh my Hayato, could it be that I angered you?'' she mocked at him.
Hayama refused to respond to her provocation and kept his lips firmly pressed together.
''No...?'' She asked as if he was a little boy. ''But my...you look positively glowing. Could it be that you are pregnant?''
Instead of Hayama's reaction, it was Hikigaya's snort and coughing laughter that filled the air.
''sorry please continue.'' He gasped and soon his quiet chuckle disappeared.
Mrs. Yukinoshita sent a amusing gaze to Hachiman, but she quickly noticed how Hayama was starting to lose his patience.
''Hayama Hayato. I am telling you this once. Only this once. If I find out that you in any way try to 'inconvenience' Hachiman in the future there will never be another Hayama employed by the Yukinoshita family. Am I clear?'' Mrs. Yukinoshita said with steel in her voice. ''You look a bit upset Hayato, could it be that you want to attack me?''
All eyes moved to Hayama, who by now was deeply red and shaking. ''Mrs. Y-Yukinoshita. I am grateful to know that you think so highly of our professional capacities. But why exactly are you here and what have I done that would receive such harsh judgement?''
''After all that's been said you still don't get it. Second, like I told Haruno, I go where I want, when I want and I owe no one an explanation. But since it has something to do with you, I will share it.''
''Now, Hachiman.'' Mrs. Yukinoshita started and looked at him with a genuine smile. ''I happened to be around to make some arrangements for the coming weekend. We will have a family dinner and I insist you come as well. I just know Goro will be happy to see you too.''
Hikigaya awkwardly chuckled when he heard the name. Yukinoshita Goro, her husband and diet member of the Chiba prefectural council. The sole pillar of the Yukinoshita family' influence and wealth. Though an impressive title, the way Hikigaya knew the man left a completely different impression on him.
''..I guess that would be nice. I'd be happy if he could reach out to me, because I don't think a high school kid that tells the security that 'i know him' will get me very far.'' Hikigaya voiced silently, chugging the last bit of his MAXX.
''I'm positive Goro will be happy to hear that, I'll have him make an appointment with you before the weekend.'' Mrs. Yukinoshita replied with a smile and used her right arm to feel around in her left tamoto (sleeve) before taking a new smartphone out.
She opened the folding cover and moved a little closer to Hikigaya. ''I'm not used to this one yet, so I'd be happy if you could add your information, Hachiman.'' Mrs. Yukinoshita said as she handed the phone to him, watching closely as his nimble fingers moved over the screen.
Quietly she spoke again. ''I'm pretty sure it's not the first time you've helped me with new electronics fufu~''
''Thank you, Hachiman.'' She kindly said as her phone now contained his updated information. ''I never removed your previous information, so it's not new.''
Hikigaya noticed it when he added the information. Though, when he gave the phone back his eyes moved to the foldable part of the cover where he saw a few photos.
''Did you notice, Hachiman?'' Mrs. Yukinoshita asked as she kept the phone open. ''I have a few photos.''
There was an old photo of Haruno, where she was much smaller and stood in front of a small lake. ''This one was taken before Yukino was born. We visited a local vineyard in the north. We happened to make a stop at a restaurant and were notified by the owners of the lake.''
Hikigaya nodded at her words, before moving to the next one. ''Ahh now that brings me back.'' Mrs. Yukinoshita voiced as a small smile lifted her lips up. ''Yukino had her first horse riding lesson. She absolutely hated it but look at her face, it's adorable.''
Mrs. Yukinoshita laughed loud enough for the others to notice.
''...and finally this photo, Hachiman. What do you think?''
In the photo were two people, sitting on the porch of an old Japanese style house. There was a small boy, not much older than 5 and a woman that didn't look a day older than 25. Both had wide smiles on their faces as they looked at the camera, wearing a purple and a deep green kimono.
Many would say his eyes were creepy, revolting and menacing. It was a first for all, with the exception of Mrs. Yukinoshita, to see how expressive they could be.
Raw emotion swam in his eyes, thinking about those wonderful days, those days that will never come back.
Hikigaya deeply sighed. The attention of the others firmly on him, but he couldn't find it in him to care.
''..that was a long time ago.'' He said as he voiced his thoughts. ''I do remember those days, those precious few days I could be happy and it was all thanks to you.'' before he quickly handed the photo back.
The expression on his face had turned from neutral to a more tensed and saddened look.
''I think it's time for me to go now.'' Hikigaya said as he addressed Hayama. ''I don't know what you hoped to accomplish by today's event. What you wanted to do, to show or to say but I.. sigh just don't invite me again.''
He had no issues with Hayama so there was no need to make it harder on him. Mrs. Yukinoshita quickly stood up and closed almost all distance between herself and Hikigaya with a confused but saddened frown on her face.
''Is something wrong, Hachiman? There's no need to suddenly leave. I'd love to speak a bit more with you today.'' She said to him. ''If you want me to send the others away, I can do that.''
''I know, I know.'' He quickly replied but still looked a bit peeved. ''..I am happy to see you, but I'm in a crappy mood because of today. I just want to go home for now. If you need me you have my number and email.'' Hikigaya replied after he turned to Mrs. Yukinoshita. ''I think it would be best if me and Yuigahama left first. I don't want to get between your family business.''
The smaller woman, who noticed the small uneasy look on his face, pulled his face closer to hers. a small gasp from her youngest daughter was heard when she softly kissed both of Hikigaya's cheeks, leaving small pink smudges of lipstick behind.
Softly she murmured in his ears ''we may not be family, but we are as good as one don't you think?''
Her words left Hikigaya dumbfounded for a moment before flashing her a small smile.
''Come, Yuigahama.'' He said as he took his bag. ''Let's give them some space. I'll see you tomorrow Yukinoshita.''
He sent a small nod to Hayama and a quick wave to Haruno before turning around.
Every step he took became shorter and short before coming to a quiet stop.
Hikigaya turned around, the inquisitive faces of the others that were still there looking at him.
''...well..I'll see you soon, K-Kyoko-nee-san.'' and walked off with a bright blush on his face, quickly followed by Yuigahama trying to catch up to him.
The fond gaze of Mrs. Yukinoshita, or Yukinoshita Kyoko, never left her face until she could no longer see the smallest spot of Hikigaya.
''That Hachiman..'' She softly said as she stared at her daughters. ''...I can only guess what happened.''
''Hayato!'' She suddenly snapped. ''I believe I've seen enough of you for one day. Your family is invited to the dinner and are welcome starting a 5 in the afternoon. Don't forget my warning.''
Hayama waited not a second longer before he stood up. He smiled his usual smile and walked off, never looking back.''
Mrs. Yukinoshita's eyes followed him until he was out of hearing distance, before moving back to her daughters.
''My dearest daughters.'' She started as she moved her gaze from one to the other and back. ''As you might have noticed, Hachiman and I are very familiar with each other.''
''Since he and I have had quite the amicable relationship in the past, I intend to improve it even more than before.'' Her gaze and voice both clear to her daughters. ''You will see him quite often at our residence in the future if it was only up to me.''
''However, since I know him quite well he will not feel very comfortable at first. He will be comfortable with your father and I, but not you two.''
''Any hostility or disapproval of him will stop here and now. This is not debatable in any way. are we clear?'' Mrs. Yukinoshita asked her daughters.
After a moment or two, the girls nodded to their mother.
''Very well. Now I will permit you both to ask a single question, though it is up to me whether I will answer the question.''
It was Haruno who asked the first question. ''Mother, when did you meet Hikigaya-kun for the first time?''
''Hmmm...'' Mrs. Yukinoshita softly hummed before a small smile appeared on her face. ''I would say...right around...the time he was born.''
The two sisters blinked. once, twice, before looking at the other.
It was Yukino's turn next. ''Than Mother, if you have known him for so long, then why can't I remember meeting him before my second year in Sobu?''
''..that's a simply question. That is because you haven't met him before. Your father and I have though.'' Mrs. Yukinoshita replied as she scratched her cheek. ''...though I believe I've invited him numerous times before, probably since he was around 5 or 6 years old but he never wanted to.''
''There you girls have it. Hachiman and our family go way back. Haruno and Yukino, coming Friday after your club activities have ended I am tasking the both of you to bring him to our residence, is that clear?'' She asked. Her daughters nodded almost instantly.
''Very well..'' She continued and stood up with her daughters. ''Due to an extra guest I will have to make some more arrangements. Haruno, bring Yukino to her apartment and stay for the night.''
There was some unspoken tension but a dual nod was their response.
Finally Mrs. Yukinoshita closed in on her daughters and guided their faces to each of her shoulders, slowly sliding her hands through their hair before letting them go.
A small but genuine smile blossomed on Mrs. Yukinoshita's face before walking off in the exact same manner as she arrived.
The sun was slowly sinking down into the horizon, coloring the sky in a warm and deep orange.
Under this sky a brooding young man and a very curious pinkette were walking together to their homes.
''Hikki, Hikki mou!'' Yuigahama pouted as she walked in front of him. ''Why didn't you tell me you knew Yukinon's mom?''
''hehe, you see. At first I didn't even know it was her mother.'' Hikigaya replied with a certain sadness to his voice. ''However, many questions I had have now been answered.''
''ah..eh..okay Hikki.'' Yuigahama uncertainly replied before walking next to him. Her short bun bopped as they kept moving, much like her chest.
Hikigaya gave his clubmate a cheeky smile before walking faster, causing Yuigahama to rain down her small fists on his shoulder.
''So...Hikki.'' She voiced as she looked at him again. ''How do you know her actually?''
''How I know her?'' Hikigaya smiled as he replied. ''Now that is a long story.''
I hope you enjoyed the chapter. I do think it has an interesting premises for the future. I hope to do some editing soon too.
I envision Mrs. Yukinoshita as a deeply caring but very strict/commanding mother. Not really asking, only telling. Not being questioned but questioning others.
The names Goro and Kyoko are OC since there are no official names.
Do let me know what you think of the first question.
See ya!
I got another pretty fun Oregairu story in the pipeline. I hope to write it pretty soon as well.
Chapter 2 - a visit to the past (prelude)
