Frozen | Secrets of the Unknown

Chapter 1: Mystified

(This book occurs seven months after the events of Book 1: Cycle of Change)

North Mountain, November 1843...

"Elsa, come on! I want to see your ice palace again!" Anna shouts to Elsa. The two sisters found time away from the kingdom, and relax on the mountains.

"I got to say Elsa, you chose the best place to build your ice palace. The air is nice, the wind is kind of cold, but the view is so beautiful!" Anna tells Elsa as she leans on the edge of the balcony.

"It's quiet up here, and it feels free." Elsa replies.

"So, wait? You said you sing what?! Can I hear what you sang? Please, please, please!" Anna tells Elsa.

Elsa clears her throat; she recreates the scene of herself transforming her dress to her blue gown. Then, she unleashed her vocal power.

"Hear I stand, in the light of day! Let the storm rage onnnn!

The cold never bothered me anyway..." Elsa sings, Anna giggles in awe. Elsa reverts back to her formal dress as Anna skips and hugs her.

"You're such a stinker when you're pumped up. Still, that was incredible, Elsa!" Anna said, praising her sister's performance.

"Come on, Anna. That was a long time ago, I hate it when I remember that. But it really felt powerful!" Elsa said. The two started laughing over the thought.

"Why are we here anyway?" Elsa asks Anna.

Anna unfolds a piece of cloth, revealing the previously shattered pendant. She spent the last months repairing it. Elsa remembers what happened with the pendant, and how Anna slapped her. She opted out as she experiences an anxiety attack.

"Woah, Elsa. What's wrong?" Anna worriedly asked as she rub Elsa's back.

"I- I'm sorry, Anna. I'm... happy that you fixed it." Elsa reacted as she pants for air, slowly breathing in and out to calm herself down.

"Elsa, is this about what happened? Oh, Elsa, I'm so sorry. I've forgotten about it. Here, I'll... I'll throw it away, if you want." Anna said.

"No... that's... my gift to you. So, you'll always know that... I'm always with you, Anna.

I'm sorry, it just hurts me sometimes to remember the past." Elsa reasons to Anna.

"Elsa, it's all in the past now. They're not going to go back. Plus, I promised you that I won't do that again." Anna said, she gives Elsa a hug, and Elsa hugs her in return.

The Snowgies and Marshmallow run around the ice palace, along with Olaf and Samantha. Elsa and Anna continued their relaxation at the balcony. They watch as the sun sets on the horizon.

"It's been so peaceful. I love it." Anna said while digging into a bowl of chocolates.

"Yeah, so many things happened. I want this all the-" Elsa stops talking. She thinks she just heard someone whispered on her ear.

"Hey, Elsa. You're acting weird again." Anna points out.

"Hmm? Oh, it's nothing. It's just, I want this peaceful time to be permanent and-" Elsa stops talking again upon hearing the whispers. It was nothing like the voice that was calling her almost a year ago.

"Elsa? Hey! Snap out of it. What's wrong? Something's clearly wrong." Anna said.

"I'm hearing... whispers. Very faint whispers, I don't know where they're coming from." Elsa explains to Anna.

"Maybe it's just the Snowgies. You know those weird, little snow people. Come on, Elsa, don't ruin this relaxing evening. Like you said, let go of your worries for once." Anna reacted.

"Hey, I know what I said. Besides, they're cute! They can make a pretty good ice sculpture, really." Elsa replied, she is still hearing faint whispers. She ignores the whispers by talking to Anna, and eating a bowl of chocolates.

The two went back to Arendelle after spending time together. Kristoff, Sven, and Samantha are playing catch, but with a twist. Every time show doesn't catch the ball, they'll be answering a question.

"Okay, Olaf. If you don't catch it, Samantha's going to ask you a question." Kristoff tells Olaf.

"Don't catch it! I have a great question!" Samantha shouted.

Kristoff throws the ball.

"I got it! I got it!" Olaf yells. Olaf catches the ball with his face, flinging his carrot nose away. He goes where his nose flies off, at a dark alley near the castle grounds.

"Where is it? Oh! There you are, your silly nose!" Olaf exclaimed. Then, a shadow figure lunges onto Olaf, causing him to scream and run.

"Kristoff! Sven! Samantha! Run!" Olaf yelled. Olaf ran back inside the castle, leaving the three confused.

"Ooh! Kristoff! Over here!" Anna calls out. Kristoff has a troubled look on his face.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Anna asked.

"I don't know... maybe you should ask Olaf. He ran inside the castle; he was scared by something." Kristoff explains to Anna.

Elsa and Anna went inside the castle to check on Olaf. He is hiding behind the curtain. He screamed when Elsa sets aside the curtain.

"Don't eat me! Oh, hi Elsa!" Olaf said.

"Olaf? Why are you hiding behind the curtain?" Elsa asked.

"I saw this... monster out there! It was big, and has yellow eyes! It tried to eat me!" Olaf explains to Elsa. Then, it starts to rain heavily outside.

"That's odd." Anna reacted, "Before we went inside, the sky was clear. Now, it is raining." Anna added.

"Yeah. I... I'll be in my room if you need anything." Elsa said. She hurriedly pace into her room. Suspecting something's wrong, Anna follows her.

"Elsa? I know something's wrong. Can I come in?" Anna called out. She opens the door, and sees Elsa staring at the window.

"Elsa?" Anna asks.

"Anna. I feel something's wrong. Those whispers I heard earlier, they stopped." Elsa reacted.

"Good! It won't bother you anymore." Anna replied. Then, the candles blew out, and the window forcefully opened, letting a strong breeze in. Anna jumps behind Elsa's bed, while Elsa weathers the heavy rain that's pouring inside the room.

"Elsa! Get away from there!" Anna yelled. Elsa heard the whispers again.

"Go north..."

"Seek the north..."

"It is waiting..."

"Go north..."

Anna grabs Elsa by the arm, and pulls her away from the window. The rain stops, and the candles light up again like nothing happened.

"Elsa? What's going on?" Anna worriedly asked. All of a sudden, Anna clenches on her head as a headache had just set in.

"Anna! What happened here? It's soaking wet!" Kristoff exclaimed.

"Take Anna to her room. I'm sorry, I accidentally opened the window." Elsa lied to Kristoff. They escort Anna to her room, where Kristoff looks after her.

Elsa slips out of the castle, and goes to Pabbie to seek help.

"Pabbie? Are you here?" Elsa called out. The rock trolls roll towards Elsa.

"It's Queen Elsa!" One of the trolls said. Then, Pabbie rolls up to her.

"You've felt it too, that's why you're here." Pabbie said.

"Yes. Pabbie, I'm tired of this. When are these "mysterious" things going to stop?" Elsa frustratingly asked.

"Your Majesty, I believe that it will not stop until everything is done and found. What is calling you now, is a very dangerous entity. It sensed your immense power, and it wants to test you." Pabbie warns Elsa.

"Test me? Why?" Elsa asked.

"It wants to test your limitations. Elsa, if you lose against that... entity, it will consume your powers, and with it... Arendelle." Pabbie warned.

Elsa looks back at Arendelle. It was peaceful. Now, another disaster is waiting to happen. Ever determined, Elsa persuades Pabbie.

"Where is this entity located?" Elsa asked.

"North. Beyond Athohallan. Beyond what our maps say. An uncharted land that has concealed magic for a very long time.

Be careful, Elsa. You can only go in and out, once. You must overcome whatever it is that is waiting for you there! It will try and torment those who you love the most with their deepest fears." Pabbie warns Elsa.

"Don't worry, Pabbie. I will know whatever that is causing this." Elsa assures Pabbie.

"Elsa! Do not listen to the whispers you hear! It will trigger even your most haunting fears. Resist, and you will succeed." Pabbie reminds Elsa. She nods, and makes her way.

The next day, Anna wakes up from her painful headache. Kristoff prepared breakfast for her.

"How's the head?" Kristoff asked.

"Still hurts a bit, but I'm alright now. And this breakfast is amazing!" Anna replied. Then, Elsa enters the room, she is dressed with her usual, blue outfit.

"Wow, you're all dressed up. Where are you going?" Anna asked.

"I'll, uh... be out for a few days. I have to meet with some Scandinavian leaders about the winter summit next month." Elsa tells Anna.

"Uh, huh. Right? Am I supposed to be on it as well? Because you know, I'm queen too?" Anna asked.

"You've done a lot now, Anna. And now you got a headache for doing too much. I'll handle this, and I'll tell you all about it when I get back. Okay?" Elsa assures to Anna.

"Hmmph, okay. But, be careful, okay?" Anna reminds her.

"Anna, it's a meeting of leaders. Guards will be all over the place. Besides, I have my powers, just in case." Elsa replied, "You feel well, or you'll buy me chocolates when I get back." Elsa added.

"Deal! Kristoff, make me feel better fast!" Anna exclaimed. Both of them shared a moment of laughter. Elsa leaves the room, letting out a sigh.

There was no meeting. She is going to where the entity resides. She is determined to go alone, she doesn't want Anna, or anyone else be hurt. Elsa didn't bring any less of her mother's scarf, and Anna's satchel that she "borrowed" while she is snoozing off her headache.

She left without a trace. And there, Elsa's new adventure begins. Unbeknownst to her, the shadows are watching her. She braves the autumn weather, and the terrain.

Then, she comes across the Enchanted Forest. It was gone, consumed by the mist. It is the fastest way north. The first time around, she managed to open the mist. She tries again, but the mist refused her entry.

"What happened here?" Elsa thought to herself. Then, Yelena and the Northuldra tribe approached her.

"Elsa. Dark forces have infested the forest! Where were you!? You were supposed to protect the forest!" Yelena furiously asked.

"I was injured during the war, remember? You were there. I had to stay put for a long time." Elsa argued.

"We trusted you, Elsa. We all did." Honeymaren reacted, the tribe are disappointed by her lack of action. Instead of arguing with them, Elsa walks away, taking the long route around the Enchanted Forest, towards the Dark Sea.

As night approaches, Elsa stays put for the night under a birch tree. The leaves rustles, making Elsa react to it.

"Who's there?" Elsa called out. The leaves continue to rustle, and it getting closer.

"Show yourself! I'm not here to hurt you!" Elsa demanded. A shadow figure jumps off from the bushes. Elsa fires an ice blast at it, freezing it. But it got away, leaving its frozen figure standing.

Elsa's heart raced rapidly. She never seen such creature before. She put more twigs on her campfire, and the thought of the shadow striking again kept her all night. Then, the whispers begin to manifest itself again.

Elsa ignores them as Pabbie advised her to do. She doesn't want to respond to the whispers, as she will be consumed by her deepest fears.

Back in Arendelle, Anna's headaches became more annoying to her. She couldn't perform her duties as queen as effectively like before. Most of her job are being passed through various ministers, and to Kristoff.

"Stupid head! Stop aching!" Anna frustratingly said while bumping her head with her hand.

"Here, let me help!" Samantha suggests. She sits on top of Anna's head. The permafrost cooled her head, reducing the aching.

"Oh, yes. That's so good... thank you." Anna said, feeling satisfied with the cool sensation.

Kristoff goes in their room. He is exhausted, and plunges onto the bed, catching his breath.

"Tough day? I'm sorry, honey. This... headache is tearing my head open." Anna apologizes to Kristoff.

"It's... hah, hoo... it's... alright. Those meetings... are exhausting. How can you, and Elsa last that long? So tired..." Kristoff reacted before he falls asleep.

Elsa continues in her journey towards the far north. There, she comes across the Dark Sea. Towering dark clouds, and raging waves covered the area. The whispers became louder, and louder, annoying Elsa even more.

Elsa crafts a boat out of ice. She seals herself within the ice, and propels the boat by blasting ice backwards. Thunder rumbles across the dark skies, heavy rain starts to pour down.

"Where am I going? What does that entity want?" Elsa thought to herself.

Back in Arendelle, people begin to report strange figures going about, and around the kingdom. Some were attacked on their sleep, even in their dreams. Some of the citizens are reported missing, and is said to be captured by dark spirits that go around.

The entity is watching Elsa's journey through the Dark Sea. She is not aware of the things to come her way.
