I came up with the idea for this story after seeing the crime solving board in the background during one of the last scenes of the series finale. With Sara joining Grissom, only Greg and Morgan would remain night shift CSI's and of course they wouldn't be able to solve all crimes by themselves. This is what I came up with, hope you like it!

Ever since Sara had left CSI to be with Grissom and Catherine had become the new lab director, Greg and Morgan had felt exhausted. Lindsey was of course there to help them, but she was still a CSI level one and learning. For Greg and Morgan it meant they mostly had to work on all the calls that came in at night by themselves. Catherine tried to help them as much as she could, but her responsibilities as lab director kept her busy as well, which meant Greg and Morgan often had to pull doubles or even triples. Greg realized he was starting to forget what date it was or even which day, he really felt like all he did, was work.

A month after Sara had left, they had a rare moment of being able to sit in the breakroom. Morgan had sat down next to Greg on the couch, Catherine was sitting at the table.

"There's four people who've applied for the job," Catherine told them. A week ago, when Greg had almost made a mistake on his case because of his tiredness, Catherine had told sheriff Ecklie she was going to find someone new to join their team. She hadn't asked, she had just told him. She assumed he had also noticed how tired his daughter was, because he had agreed right away. Catherine was reading through the applications of the four candidates now.

"Are they promising?" Greg wanted to know. Catherine gave him a little smile. "Well, they're not Sara or Nick, but they've all got experience. I'm meeting one in an hour and the other three tomorrow. If I look at their experience, I think the last one also might be the best one."

Before Greg could respond, he felt something on his shoulder. He turned his head and noticed Morgan had fallen asleep with her head on his shoulder. He fought the urge to wrap his arm around her, something Catherine noticed.

"You know I don't care about you two dating, right?" she said. Greg gave her a fake smile. "Thanks, but we're not dating."

"Alright, if you start going out then," Catherine said, rolling her eyes a little. Greg looked down at Morgan and couldn't help but smile. She was so amazing and every day he just felt himself falling deeper and deeper in love with her. He had never said it out loud, though, afraid she wouldn't be feeling the same.

"Can I just ask why you two aren't going out?" Catherine said, speaking slightly softer so Morgan wouldn't hear her. "You two are perfect for each other!"

"I… I'm not sure if she feels the same way," Greg admitted. Catherine couldn't hide her surprise. "Greg, if you think she doesn't, then you're either blind or stupid. Since I know you're neither, my question remains the same."

"How do you know she feels the same?" Greg responded. Catherine gave him a look that meant as much as: 'Come on, it's obvious and I'm a woman, so I know these things.' Greg shook his head. "You're going to have to come up with something better than that!"

As he had spoken a little louder, Morgan suddenly woke up. She looked around for a moment and then realized what had happened.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" she sighed. Catherine shook her head. "Don't be, it's fine. Come on, let Greg take you home and then get some sleep!"

Morgan already started protesting, but Catherine shook her head again. "You're in no state to drive. Greg is taking you home, no discussion!"

Greg knew she wasn't just saying it to protect Morgan, but also to give him some time alone with her away from work. He gave Catherine a quick smile before telling Morgan to go and grab her things. He followed her over to the locker room, grabbed his own things and then took her over to his car.

During the car ride to her house, he saw she had fallen asleep again. When they arrived at her house, he had to help her out of the car.

"I'll come and pick you up tonight," he promised. "Ten okay?"

Morgan nodded with sleepy eyes. "Thanks, Greg, you're the best. See you tonight!"

She went inside the house without turning back one last time. He didn't mind, he knew how tired she was.

Just like he had promised, he arrived at her house at ten o'clock in the evening. She happily greeted him, looking much more awake this time.

"I slept until eight," she admitted as they drove to CSI. Greg shrugged his shoulders. "That's not that long…"

"In the evening," she quickly added. Greg nodded to tell her he was impressed. He then gave her a smile. "I'm glad you're feeling better."

Morgan smiled back at him. "Me, too. What about you? Did you manage to sleep a few hours?"

He admitted he had slept for a couple of hours, but decided not to admit he had also been awake for a long time. He had been thinking about her and about what Catherine had said. If Morgan did indeed feel the same, would he have the courage to ask her out? Or would going out with her be weird now that they were working together on such a small team?

"Well, hopefully Catherine will find someone to join our team and things will get a little easier," Morgan said. Greg immediately agreed with her. Help was definitely what they needed!

When they walked inside, they spotted a man looking around the hallway.

"Can we help you?" Greg asked him as he had never seen the man before.

"Oh, yeah, I was looking for the office of Catherine Willows," the man said. He smiled at Morgan. "Hi!"

"Her office is down there," Morgan simply said without responding to his flirty 'hi'. The man thanked her before giving her another smile and walking away. Morgan didn't even look where he was going, but turned to Greg. "Do you think you could help me for a moment before you get back to your own case? I had some trouble with this DNA sample I ran."

"Oh, yeah, sure!" He followed her over to the lab. Even though DNA was still his expertise, he had some trouble with the sample himself. They were both still working on it when they heard footsteps down the hall.

"Guys, I'd like you to meet Luke Brans," Catherine said, entering the office. She wasn't alone, though. Morgan's face dropped when she saw who Catherine had brought into the office. The man from the hallway was already smiling at her. "Hi again!"

"Luke, this is Morgan Brody and Greg Sanders," Catherine introduced them. "He will be joining our team, starting tomorrow."

Morgan noticed Greg didn't seem so happy with Luke either.

"Can either of you guys show him around?" Catherine asked them. "I have to go and tell Conrad I hired someone new."

She gave Luke a reassuring pat on his shoulder before walking away. Luke started smiling at Morgan again. "I'd love to see the place! Think you got time to show me around?"

"I'll take you over to the clothes department, so we can get your stuff sorted out," Greg suddenly said. Morgan heard it wasn't his usual sweet voice he was speaking in.

"Alright, you lead the way!" Luke nodded. He gave Morgan one last smile before following Greg into the hallway. As soon as they had left the room, he said: "Wow, she's really something! Do you know if she's seeing anyone?"

Greg looked at Luke. This man was not going to take Morgan away from him!

"Yeah," he said. "Big, strong guy. You do not want to mess with him!"

"Hmm… Shame," Luke commented. Then he shrugged his shoulders. "Ah, well, relationships don't last forever!"

Meaning he wouldn't give up just yet, Greg understood. He felt anger rising inside of him, something he wasn't used to anymore. The last time he had felt it, was when Morgan had been in the hijacked helicopter and Samantha had refused to help them. He knew he couldn't let it out again the way he had back then, but if Luke would really take Morgan away from him, there was no guarantee he still could.

As two weeks passed, Morgan quickly grew more annoyed with Luke each day. He constantly showed up when she was at work in the lab and he almost asked her out for drinks after shift every day. She was getting happier and happier when Catherine sent her away to a scene and she even started taking more time to process it, just to be away from CSI longer. The only disadvantage it had, was that she saw less of Greg as well. She really missed him, she realized. She had only seen him a few times and whenever she did, it was only for a few moments. She had told him Luke annoyed her, though, after which he had seemed relieved. She knew why and it had made her smile. Sweet, caring Greg… He was the complete opposite of Luke and even though she knew he really liked her, definitely more than Luke did, he hardly ever showed it.

At the end of shift, two weeks after Luke had joined their team, Morgan quickly collected the things from her locker, hoping to get away before Luke found her. When she turned around, she realized she was too late already.

"Hey," he said with a big smile. He walked up to her. "So, feel like going out for a cup of coffee together?"

He carefully placed his hand on the side of her face, causing her to freeze up. His thumb moved up and down her cheek. "You really are beautiful…"

"Please don't touch me," she told him, feeling a little scared on the inside. He didn't listen to her and continued to touch her cheek. "Come on, just you and me…"

Morgan pushed his hand away and took a step back. "I said: don't touch me."

"Ah, Morgan, don't tease me like this!" He took a step towards her again. This time, he put his arm around her. As he was standing in front of her, she couldn't get away. Panic struck her.

"Keep your hands off of me!" she said, trying to sound more confident than she was feeling. Luke brought his other hand up to her face. "You know you want me to do this…"

"Keep your hands off!" she called out, no longer able to hide the panic in her voice. Luke still didn't listen and bent towards her.

"Hey!"

Hearing a strange voice, Luke turned his head around. An angry Greg was standing in the doorway.

"I believe she said 'Keep your hands off of me'," he said, a warning tone in his voice. "So get away from her. Now!"

Luke laughed a little. "Or what? You're gonna make me?"

He finally let go of Morgan. She let out a deep sigh of relief, still trembling after what had just happened. A few tears started rolling down her face as she realized Luke had almost tried to kiss her.

"I will if I need to," Greg simply told him. Luke made a sound like he didn't believe it. Then, he suddenly ran up to Greg and tried to hit him. Greg was quick enough to stop him and push him back.

"Hey!"

Both men turned around and saw Catherine walking up to them. She gave them a confused look. "What's going on?"

Morgan, still afraid of Luke trying to touch her, realized this was her chance to get away. She ran out of the locker room, crying as the whole situation just became too much for her.

"Morgan!" Greg called out. He immediately let go of Luke and took after her. She didn't stop running, though, till they were at the other end of the parking lot. There, she completely broke down. Greg quickly wrapped his arms around her and held her tight.

"It's okay, I'm here!" he kept whispering in her ear. From the corner of his eyes, he saw Catherine walking up to them. He carefully placed his hand under Morgan's chin so she could look up. Still trying to be a careful as possible, he wiped away a few of her tears. She gave him a little smile. "Thank you…"

She took a step back as Catherine joined him.

"What happened?" she wanted to know. A little reluctantly, Morgan told her about Luke during the past two weeks and what he had tried to do just moments ago. Catherine shook her head. "Why didn't you say something sooner? I would have fired him a week ago already!"

"Because we're already short-handed, I didn't want to make things worse!" Morgan admitted, still sobbing a little.

"For us or for yourself?" Catherine said, pulling her into a hug. "Morgan, I care way more about how you feel than about getting all the work done! You really should have told me!"

Morgan nodded a little. "I know, I'm sorry."

"Don't be!" Catherine immediately told her. "Now, I'll leave you here with Greg until you're fine again, I have a little something else to do!"

They all knew Catherine was going to fire Luke. Morgan felt so relieved she started crying again. Greg pulled her into a hug as Catherine walked away.

When Morgan had finally calmed down again, she looked up at Greg. "I'm sorry… But thanks for helping me back there."

"Of course, I'm always there for you!" he said. "No one should be allowed to hurt you, you don't deserve that! You're the most amazing woman I've ever met, Morgan, I couldn't bear the thought of someone hurting you! You're so smart and funny and beautiful and I just can't stop being in love with you. I wouldn't let anyone hurt you, not as long as I'm around!"

Morgan fell silent after his words. Greg suddenly seemed to realize what he had blurted out and turned bright red.

"Really?" she whispered. "You're in love with me?"

A little hesitantly now, he nodded. Almost automatically, Morgan started smiling.

"Well, I'm glad you are," she softly said. "Because I can't stop being in love with you either… I love you, Greg, I really do!"

She didn't wait for him to say it back to her, she just threw her arms around him and kissed him. As soon as their lips touched, it felt like her body was exploding with happiness. She had waited so long to kiss him and she almost couldn't believe she finally was.

When they broke apart, Morgan felt a few tears running down her face again. Carefully, Greg wiped them away. "Tears of happiness?"

She laughed through her tears and nodded. "Yeah, they are! I just can't believe that this is really happening."

"Well, then I best make sure you really do believe it," Greg softly said, pulling her close again for another kiss. She wrapped her arms around him tightly, not wanting to let go. He pulled back for a moment, saying breathlessly: "I love you too, Morgan!", before she already kissed him again. He didn't even notice Luke racing away in his car or Catherine watching them with a smile on her face. If he had, he would have already known what she'd be texting him later: 'Told you so?' When he finally read the message, he couldn't help but smile. Of course he was happy that he and Morgan had admitted their feelings for each other, but he was also happy Catherine was back with them in Vegas again.
