A Chat with the Witch of Beacon

It was their vacations, a whole month of no classes before the second semester started, they could go anywhere they wanted, but they chose to stay in Beacon much to the sadness and worry of their father, after all, he had all the right to worry about them considering that she had almost died by that guy.

A month dreaming about a cold world of desolation, filled only with graves with an ever-rising mountain that always tried to reach the sky but with each inch that the mountain gained in height, the distance with the blue moon in that bloody sky only became bigger.

The whisper... they were becoming more creepy as the days passed by, she didn't say anything to the ones she cared about regarding her condition and would never do so, to don't bother them even more than she already had.

A whole month to get as much information as they could regarding everything that connected with him that was available to them before they returned to classes and had less time to focus on getting him to cure her.

Her proposal of going directly to act to the shady side of town was immediately faced with a slap on her face by Ruby, as surprising as that may sound... she couldn't fault her while she gave her that desperate and terrified look before shaking her shoulders rather violently, screaming that she wasn't allowed to even leave Beacon and that that was her order as her leader, and her order was law. Yang... to a certain degree understood why Ruby was acting like that, but that was her freedom, a thing that she wanted to experience to her fullest since she had become the responsible one at her house at the tender age of five... she was ashamed to be so selfish sometimes but considering that for so long she had to act like that, she simply wanted to let loose and don't think of the consequences of the actions, just enjoy the moment... like a child, what she hadn't acted when she was at her youngest because of her responsibility with her little sister and her heart-broken father, not that she regretted her actions, she would never do that... but she wanted to recover all the fun that she had missed for some long years.

Yes, that was what had gotten her in this mess in the first place but was it truly worth it? To exchange safety for freedom and adventure?

She had become a huntress for the thrill of living the moment at its fullest and no matter what some baddie wanted, she would live her life at her fullest... after beating the crap out of that Raiga and convince him to never think of threatening her, much less her family or friends.

Right now... she was on her way to a place where she knew that she would get information of, after all, it was the most probable thing that they were the assholes that accused her with that guy, it was not her fault that they were such weaklings.

The information that they had gotten until now was... lacking, even with Weiss asking some of her contacts, all they could get was the theories that they had made as he had never been captured and his power was so diverse and overwhelming that some believed that the 'Beast of the Red Plains' was actually several people with holographic equipment to put up the illusion that they were the same person. And with the families that that masked man had talked about... the archives were not going to be given to first-year students, and Weiss seemed to be unable to obtain the information even with her status as the heiress of the Schnee Company.

The achievements as a criminal that he had made were... actually impressive and cool if they weren't so terrifying and he hadn't gone overboard with the violence that he had used against his enemies. His power was comparable to that of a tier-4 huntsman like professor Goodwitch but his techniques made him comparable to the like of tier-5 huntsmen like professor Ozpin... his battle prowess reaching the point of being able to defeat the headmaster much to her surprise.

The list of his confirmed kills was incredibly long, his longest kill had been confirmed at a span of an approximate of three-point five kilometers, his most amount of kills gotten in a single night neared a hundred... his biggest achievement was to kill the King of Atlas in the middle of the Kingdom in his daily walk, before having to face down an entire battalion of Atlesian soldiers, that was when he had gotten his most amount of kills in a single night confirmed by the public.

A murderer, a vicious murderer who didn't bat an eye at mass murder nor torture, he had left her alive, the question was... why?

She thought she knew why, to make her suffer, to make her believe she had an opportunity to live when in fact he thought that she had none... well, Yang would be disappointing his expectations, she would cure this curse that he had left on her and then she would go to kick his ass so hard that she would break all his bones with a single strike.

No one made her baby sis' cry and did not face her fists.

"Miss Xiao Long, why are you out of the academy?"

The harsh voice of Glynda Goodwitch made her stop on spot, suddenly the feeling of the earth beneath her feet disappeared and her body was moved like a rag doll until she was facing the blonde teacher, looking at her in disappointment and slight rage that made her avoid the older woman's gaze.

"You think this is a joke, don't you?"

"W-what? N-no, I just—"

Slap

The sound of her palm meeting her cheek and the pain of it silenced her before she was grabbed by the other hand of the woman with little care and forced her to look at her livid and fuming expression, disappointment wrote on her face so evident that she may have as well have written it with permanent markers.

"You know who you have angered, don't you, miss Xiao Long?"

"Y-yes."

She whispered fearfully, never having seen this emotional side of the stoic professor Goodwitch. Her answer seemed to anger even more the woman.

"You know about them, how merciless they are, and yet you still act like nothing has happened, as if your actions had not angered one of the cruelest criminal family in the whole world!"

Yes, she knew that... but was afraid to answer her and getting her angrier, however, her expression forced the answer out of her.

"Y-yes."

"And your brilliant idea after they increased the amount of your bounty was to go to this side of the Kingdom?!"

H-huh?

That... that she didn't know.

"Oh, yeah, miss Xiao Long, you are now officially the twentieth most wanted person in the criminal world, congratulations, is that what you wanted to hear?"

Her tone... it carried so much emotion that it could only mean one thing, this topic was personal.

"Miss Goodwitch, you... have a story with the Fujimura?"

She continued to look straight at her eyes for a few more moments before she ended up sighing and with her hands on her waist and her gaze to the ground, her eyes were unfocused when she managed to look at them when her professor looked straight to her eyes, at that moment she was not looking at Yang, she was looking at a memory, a memory that Yang had reminded her with her actions.

"Miss Yang... we... it's better that we return to Beacon."

Yang didn't say anything and simply followed her without a word of complaint, but it wasn't long before miss Goodwitch talked to her.

"You remind me so much of myself, Miss Xiao Long."

Glynda informed absently as she looked sideways to Yang, surprised by the sudden outburst of information, she continued to remain in silence though, it wouldn't help in anything that she talked right now, it would probably make professor Glynda angrier.

"Always picking up troubles, flirting with every person that I found cute, dressing however I wanted, and the lot."

Miss Glynda huffed in amusement as Yang looked as if she had found a new corner of the universe. It was not a surprise her reaction, with how mature, sharp and stern Glynda Goodwitch acted now, to find out her past was... something similar to Yang was unthinkable, no one could view miss Glynda Goodwitch as anything else than the most responsible, by far, of the whole academy.

"This current weapon of mine was not the one that I had used when I was on the field, my weapon of choice was also a pair of gauntlets, in my case, they were oversized as I did not like to use bullets and preferred to use my fists to solve everything, pretty ironic for someone with my sort of Semblance, isn't it?"

A control-type semblance, Telekinesis. As semblances many times reflected the type of personality that a person had, an aspect of their characters. If one knew an enemy's semblance than they could deduce their fighting style as everyone's fighting style revolves around the use of their most powerful trump card, their Semblance... but there were some cases where people used their Semblance in unexpected ways, Glynda Goodwitch seemed to have been one of those people according to her words.

"I always loved to attract my enemies to close range and beat their faces until I knocked them out... it got me in many problems, my violent tendencies, to the point that the Headmaster of the time had almost expelled me and I would have been if it wasn't for... my team."

The tone that she was saying that the last word was filled with so much emotion that Yang was left at a loss, especially when she noticed the tears that were starting to fall from her eyes. She remained in silence, but, unconsciously, put her hand on the teacher's shoulder and almost pulled her into and embrace if she hadn't stopped herself, still, Miss Glynda mouthed a 'Thank you', cleaned her tears and continued walking forward along with her story.

"We were a... weird combination, even more than your team. A model student that didn't found any hesitance to point out what was on his mind and would always smile in a way that would creep me out, a prodigy that was incapable to form any sort of bonds because he believed that if he got attached to anyone they would die, a silent merciless girl with a past that she could not move from but would never talk about and finally, me... the worst troublemaker you could ever find. As one could guess, we didn't have the best start, in fact, I almost killed our leader for calling me out on my mistakes and how to fix them."

Yang remained silent as Glynda talked, they were already past the shady side of Vale and in a more populated and tame area where miss Glynda proceeded to take a seat on one of the benches in front of the nearest park.

"He forgave me, but I still didn't like being around them, I told myself that I could take care of myself perfectly fine, always had since my parents abandoned me on that street that I called my home for over ten years..."

"Why are you telling me this, Professor?"

To suddenly reveal so much about her to a student... for what it sounded of her story, there were just a few similarities between them, she and her team were on good terms since the beginning, and she would never be violent with a friend.

"... With time we started becoming close people." Professor Glynda ignored Yang as she continued to recall things from the past, it seemed that she just wanted to left it out with her chest with someone she thought to be someone akin to her past self. "I started considering my brothers and sisters, and they considered me her little problematic sister, hehe... funny that I ended up growing to be the second tallest one... we graduated as the top of our class and the pride of our generation." Professor Glynda pulled out her scroll and showed her what Yang assumes to be her team who she was talking so fondly about.

In the picture one could see four people, all of them smiling in different degrees. The one in the middle, the smallest one, was the one taking the picture, she had long light blonde a little bit messy, that along their pajamas were a clear sign that the picture was taken after waking up, probably to celebrate some great event happening the following hours, she seemed to have been laughing while the picture was taken... still, the face of miss Glynda was recognizable even in her younger face and lacking the stern expression that she wields 24/7. To her sides were two boys and behind her was a girl of hair as red as blood and with a pair of cute bear ears smiling fondly at the camera with a small smile; the one with the awkward smile had black everything and a wild hair that covered his eyes seemed to have a slap mark on his right cheek and the one the other side was—

"T-That is—"

"Yes, I was in the same team as Professor Ozpin, he was the leader of my team as you may have guessed... and yes, I beat him up... more times than I can remember, I was a quite violent girl you see." Quite, the expression of Yang said it everything, to be violent with the bad guys was one thing but with your allies that were a whole fifty steps lower than what she would step in. "It got me into a lot of problems... one of those was with the Fujimura family."

She remained silent, this she wanted to hear completely, even though Yang wasn't as violent as Glynda had been, it would get her an idea of what those bad guys were capable of in a matter of strength.

"I remember that it all started with a party in the shady part of town, and the next day my partner, the other girl of my team, told me that I had beaten up quite a few people. The usual happened, I was scolded and they took my money so I wouldn't have anything to spend and my partner continued watching me closely for over a few weeks... then, all of the sudden, Ozpin and Sebastian came to our shared apartment with pale expression and showed me my face... with a small bounty by the Fujimura family to bring me in front of them alive."

"Did you manage to make them put down the bounty, Professor?"

Was her simple question, after all, if miss Glynda could do it, then all her problems were solved, she would simply need to go to Junior's and pull from him some information to where to find their hideout and BOOM! Problem solved.

Her smile was met with a frown and a chastising expression that forced her to put an apologetic expression.

"I went to their hideout and you know what happened?"

"You... beat them all?"

Yang said timidly while remaining uncomfortable because of the judging gaze of her teacher.

"I tried to force the ones protecting the front door into showing me the way to their leader, but they beat me, who was considered a fighting genius, in just a few strikes before they dragged me in front of the leader." She laughed, but there was no amusement on it, only pain and a little bit of fear. "You know the blessing that is having an Aura? All of your injuries are healed within seconds... but one still feels the pain and that just make tortures become worse, as your Aura forces you to be awaken no matter how much they break your bones, cut your flesh, beat you... And they had managed to find the best ways to keep you alive even though you want nothing but your death." Miss Glynda admired the expression of horror and realization that formed in the face of her student without any sort of emotion leaking of her, or so she thought for her broken eyes told an entire story that froze the soul of the blonde teenager. "I remember all the feelings that I had experienced... and I seem to remember to have been told that I had been an entire week in their hands before my team found me, mutilated of all of my extremities and most of my flesh by the Sulfur Fish that had been buried with me in front of the Academy."

Sulfur Fish, a small-sized Grimm barely of the size of a corgi that lived in extremely large groups, by themselves, they are cowardice Grimms that would only attack in groups by latching onto their prey and slash or stab with their long, barbed super-heated tails. But when they found an unconscious prey, they would take it to their nest and consume it, and for them to consume a medium-sized body completely, it only took them an hour to consume everything to the bone... in other words, Professor Glynda was lucky to have been found so quickly.

She took some time to calm herself before continuing, she was not struggling with her words as much as she believed that she would, she was struggling more with keeping her emotions at bay so she could complete the whole message normally without her words cracking.

"I served as an example to the Huntsmen and Huntresses to stay away from them and their businesses... not that my teammates caught the hint, it was my first time seeing my usually quiet teammates that would tolerate every single action that stupid me did be so livid... and even in my hazy memories, I will not forget those faces of pure rage as they pulled me out, not directed to me but directed to the ones who did that to me."

"W-wait, miss Glynda." She looked with a stoic but empty expression right on her eyes, this time she didn't cringe under her gaze nor she backed away, she needed to be answered this question for such... torture that they had inflicted upon miss Glynda just for beating some bad guys. "W-why did they do-?"

"Why did they tortured me? Simple, I broke the spinal cord of one of their men... and they are known to be very protective of their men."

She unconsciously took her hand to the back of her neck... yes, Aura healed injuries faster, but only minor ones, like bleeding or broken bones, things like that... how hard had miss Glynda hit that bad guy to have his defenses completely crushed by her?

"Worst thing, it wasn't just one of his men, but his youngest child who had come to visit his lover according to some of the sources that I had contacted some time after."

... Oh.

"Yes, 'Oh', and because of my actions, Professor Ozpin always wears high-neck outfits or a scarf to hide the scar that they made him, and my extremities were replaced with advanced prosthesis asked by the Headmaster of that time... I can never forgive them for what they have done to them, neither myself for it was I who had brought those problems to my friends." Then Miss Glynda looked straight to the eyes of the younger girl. "And I don't want anyone else to suffer the same thing that I had to experience... but oh how many times I have failed, no matter how hard I try, my students always get caught in problems with the Fujimura or him... is it a curse? Payback for being such a piece of shit when I was younger?"

Ignoring the vulgarity of her words, all one could find on them was sadness and despair as the woman who was speaking them trembled but did not stop there.

"You probably wonder of my story with the Beast of the Red Plains, don't you?" A nod was her answer as Yang got closer to her with a focused and serious gaze, Glynda sighed with her hand on the bridge of her nose. How many times had she told her student this just for them to ignore her warnings?... Over a hundred times... but she hoped that Yang would be the first to follow her warnings. "He... was just a child when I first met him and I was already a slightly experienced Huntress investigating about some criminal Faunus sentenced to the worst mines in all Remnant that decided to revolt and had successfully slain all the staff, my team was one of the seven teams assigned to deal with the problem, and you know what was the first thing we saw?"

Yang could already guess but let Glynda continue her story.

"A child, no older than seven on top of a small mountain of corpses eating a living rat with an empty look that made my heart drop low and want to throw up all I had, the corpses were fresh and the smell of death was something that I was already used but... not when the one doing it was a child that would be of the same age as the child of my friend's sister would have they survived the bandits that had attacked her village. In his other hand, a horrified severed head of what it seemed to be one of the scientists... I can still remember... his words without an ounce of emotion, 'I wanted to make you suffer even more for what you have done to us'... I, wanted to go and engage in conversation with him but the moment I got in a certain range, he threw a blade at me, which was blocked by Ozpin then... all happened in a blur, I remember to have been hit by a large object, I reduced its impact with my telekinesis but I was knocked out and the next thing that I saw... was the corpses of all the teams that accompanied us with us, being the only ones still alive."

... What? That, she had never heard of such an event happening by the words of her uncle and he always told her everything, even if it was grotesque or just plainly a cruel story. She would have heard such a thing from him... right?

"His right hand on a blood-bathed war-ax bigger than his whole body that screamed of violence, with his other on the severed head of another huntsman who still had a look of horror on his face. He had not been the only one there, and it seemed that they had helped him beat the other and left my team in a weakened state... but all of them were also kids, talented kids that had beaten the best of the best of a generation of all four academies. I think there were five: a Bull Faunus of snow-white hair, a Lioness Faunus of green and golden, a green-haired human boy, a boy from the thought-to-be-extinct race of the Draco, and finally, the bear Faunus with that indifferent gaze that creeped me out." She let a huff of amusement before laughing without any kind of joy. "It's funny, to think that we were totally defeated by some children who only-the-Brothers-know where they may be right now."

"W-what happened after that?"

"What happened?" Came instantly and with a pained and furious look, Glynda growled out. "I lost two of the ones that I viewed as my family and almost thought the third one to be, for the Beast of the red plains left him in a vegetative state... or so I had been told before he woke up as a completely different person... I told Ozpin vaguely what happened for somehow I felt that he was not my idiot."

Glynda shook her head, she was telling more than she should, drifting off from the main message that she wanted to give Yang... what did she want to say in the first place?

'Great, Glynda, really great.'

"The point is, miss Xiao Long, the idea of going against the Fujimura is bad, not only they have control of many villages that supply them with resources in exchange for protection, but they have a great number of thugs with the average strength of middle-ranked Huntsmen working as their small army, they are cruel and relentless and will not stop at nothing until you are in front of them... and if Raiga is anything like his father or what the rumors around him suggest, it will not end good for you nor for anyone involved."

"How can I remain still knowing that there are criminals after my head, and will not stop until I'm on their dirty hands?!"

She cried out in outrage, Yang couldn't tolerate the idea of being the cause of her sister being in the path of criminals after her head, that would probably step as low as using Ruby to get her with them... the sudden outburst made her concentration break, and the pain that her aura was protecting her from returned to her with a cruel intensity that made her scream, she tried to hold it in her but... it felt as if every single inch of her body was bleeding as if every molecule of her being was shattered, the words to describe this torture were lost in her tongue as she struggled with all her being to hold herself together.

She would not shatter.

Her vision became blurry and time passed weirdly, only being able to see shadows as the sky was bathed in blood and she found herself once again in the bottom of the mountain that tried to reach the moon... but this time was different this time... a child was here, crying as blood rained from the heavens.

Shatter.

The howls of the innocents cried out to the child, he took all of the insults and curses that the dead ones gave him, all the wrongs of the world... he would shoulder them, for the sake of his *-*-* o*-*s.

Shatter. Shatter. Shatter!

He cried to the heavens as blades started to protrude from his body from his skin.

His screamed as his hands were tainted in so much blood that they could no longer be washed.

Shatter. Shatter. Shatter. Shatter. SHATTER. SHATTER!

The light of the moon and the gentle touch of the winter, his only sources of hope... slowly becoming dimmer and dimmer and soon-

He would shatter.

The voices laughed as she and the child screamed their hearts out.

That night while being drift into unconsciousness, she swore to hear a gentle voice that she did not recognize that answered the question of miss Glynda... that night she dreamt of a Child slowly becoming a Weapon with the taint of battle and carnage.
