After Conquest (SYOC)

Prologue: Reign of Dragons

The throne room was quiet as the princess walked in. Tan skinned, dark haired, she walked with confidence. Her doe-like brown eyes were settled on the King who had conquered six of the kingdoms thus far – and intended to take hers as well.

"King Aegon," Deria Martell said, holding a piece of paper in her hands.

"Princess Deria," His voice was tight, his hands gripping the edges of the throne that he had made. He winced when blood sprouted from a wound he made by clutching the throne.

Visenya was behind him, her hand on the hilt of Dark Sister. Her eyes watched the Dornishwoman with hate – Rhaenys had gone down near Hellholt over a year ago, and they hadn't heard anything since. Meraxes was dead, they knew. But the Dornish had never said anything about Rhaenys.

"I bring terms from my grandmother," Deria said, holding up the piece of paper.

"Is she prepared to bend the knee?" Visenya cut in, her voice as cold as the sword she held. She was more austere than her sister had been – all lines and harsh looks.

"Dorne doesn't bend," Deria repeated, glancing at Visenya. "Unbowed. Unbent. Unbroken. Those aren't just words, Queen Visenya. They are a promise."

"Let me see it," Aegon nodded at the letter.

"I would prefer if we spoke alone," Deria replied, glancing at Aegon with a knowing look in her eyes.

"Aegon, please," Visenya grabbed his arm from where he had stood up to go with her. "I'm your Queen, surely there's nothing to be said to you that I could not also hear?"

"I'm not afraid of a Dornishwoman, Visenya." He said with a touch of humor in his voice. "I shall be fine." He inclined his head towards a room that was connected to where he held court. Aegon's sword Blackfyre hung at his hip, gleaming like only a Valyrian steel blade could. His purple eyes fixated on the woman that took a seat in the chair that sat opposite of his own. She passed the letter across the table.

King Aegon of the Iron Throne,

You have spent years and buckets of Westerosi blood trying to conquer Dorne. You have failed. Once, twice, three times. I realize that nothing can stop it in terms of loss of life now. It is a matter of pride. However, I have spoken with Lord Uller of Hellholt. Your sister, Rhaenys, survives there. If you agree to leave Dorne for the remainder of your reign – and end this war against us, we will let you have her back. If you refuse, she will be tortured in the dungeons of Hellholt by Lord Uller. And should you think that you can come save her on your dragon, we'll shoot a scorpion through the heart of the Black Dread, just minutes after we cut your sister's head.

Meria Martell

Aegon's eyes were full of hate as he looked at Deria Martell. She was quiet, just watching his reaction.

"You've done this," Aegon spat as he looked at her. "Tell me one reason why I shouldn't cut your head off and send it back to Princess Martell?"

Deria just shrugged a little bit as she sat in the chair. "Rhaenys' head will be next, then."

"Is she unharmed?" Aegon's voice was tight and full of pain.

"She has not been tortured. I cannot say she's been completely unharmed, but she isn't dead." Deria told him.

Without a word, Aegon got to his feet. He marched into the throne room, his boots making loud noises on the stone floor. Deria followed quietly and hung in the shadows of the room. People began to file in for court that morning, nobles and residents from nearby the Aegonfort. She stayed in her little corner, wondering what was next to come.

He stood up on his iron chair and looked out at the people. A hush fell over the crowd as the Conqueror began to speak. "As of this moment – all war against Dorne shall cease. Peace shall reign between our nations."

Deria's eyes met Aegon's, and she saw the pain in them. She gave a little nod of her head in recognition. Dorne has survived, was all she could think of. Dragons toppled Old Ghis, six of the seven kingdoms, and colonized much of western Essos. But they could not take Dorne. And they wouldn't. Not if she had anything to say about it.

Please read the Author's Note below in it's entirety.

The chapter was short, but I hope as we get more characters, I will be able to post again shortly.

A/N: As you can tell, this is an AU if Rhaenys had survived longer. However, this is merely a prologue into what the actual story is. For those of you who read my stories Great Council and Great War, this may be a bit of a surprise! Don't worry about the Robert's Rebellion story, that will be coming out probably sometime this fall. This story has latched onto my heart this week – I thought of it last Wednesday and I wasn't sure whether or not to actually do it. I decided yes, I have to. For those of you reading Great War – don't worry. This story is going to be second fiddle to that one until it wraps up. As well as I am going to be working on an update for that right after I post this :)

Basically, this story will take up two generations of time – Aegon the Conqueror's children, and their children. As such, this story will be conducted in two phases.

The first, and shorter phase begins now. The submission of Aegon's children with Visenya or Rhaenys. (Max of 3 Visenya kids, max of 7 Rhaenys). This will last roughly 5 chapters, as sort of an introduction.

I will determine marriages and pairings by myself (though I will inform you and ask what they think of them) for this generation, as it will be critical as we go into the second phase.

The second phase is Aegon's grandchildren. You can see why this is two phases c: We need submissions for the first phase in order to allow submissions later.

A few rules for you all :)

Rule 1: Dragons will be decided by me. Please put though if you'd like them to be a dragonrider, as if you don't want them to be they definitely will not be. I will decide which dragon (if we use canon) they will ride as well.

Rule 2: For the first generation/phase, please limit submissions to just House Targaryen, House Velaryon and the Lords Paramount Houses (as well as any of their wives, etc.). Minor houses will be unlocked more in phase 2, which is where the bulk of the story will take place. This generation is largely the power brokers, the people who will control the nation when we start phase 2 – so having them is very important.

Rule 3: I will decide the Crown Prince, Lord Paramount and ages of all of those submitted to any house. That may seem strange, but I want to be able to pick the best person for each house to lead them, not just by age of who submits them.

Rule 4 (not really a rule but ;D): I highly suggest you submit at least 2 characters to the first generation and 3-4 characters to the second generation. I know what you all are thinking – how is it possible to submit upwards of 10 characters to a story? Forms are huge! I have broken down the form to bare essentials, to try and make it easy to make. By my estimates, each form should take roughly 15-20 minutes. Easy enough to make 2-5 characters. Personality is just traits. Appearance is down to just simple questions. History is just major incidents. Opinions are gone until we get characters.

Rule 5: Stay in touch! If I ask a question through PM, I expect it answered within a day or so. This is to keep us moving and on track. On a similar note, I love reviews – it lets me know people are paying attention. If you don't review, then come to submit for Phase 2 – I will feel less inclined to put your people in places of power. It's just personal preference. As well as the form is short, so I may ask questions to clarify things and such.

Rule 6: Have fun! This is meant to be as fun of a story as Great Council/War is for all of us involved in that. And again, please submit your heart's content. Upwards of 5 characters for each generation. Please, please, please. I don't know how else to say it. This is going to be a big story – we're going to need lots of characters.

Thank you all for reading. If you have any questions about characters, houses, anything – please PM me. I love to help out. I know not everything can be covered in a single sheet and chapter, so please, PM me if you have any question at all.

First phase begins in roughly 20-25 AC, and second will be about 40-45 AC (long enough for this generation to have kids)
