The morning after Peter came

Normally Evan slept in to the very last minute but since he knew she had just came back yesterday he set an alarm to wake him up earlier. He did wake up Bobby whom just put the pillow he was on over his head to block out the noise. Still half asleep he turned it off and got dressed. Once he was finished he went to find his aunt.

He didn't have to look very far as he found his aunt was having a conversation with the processor in the lounge. It didn't take very long for them to notice his presence. Auntie O blinked in his direction. "Evan? What are you doing up early?" She asked in surprise. It was extremely rare to see the teen boy up before seven o'clock. He was the type of kid you'd have to pull the covers off of and open the blinds just to get him up.

Truth be told he'd missed her but that was to embarrassing to say and besides he wanted to make sure she was okay as didn't get to see her when she came back yesterday. " I just wanted to see how you're holding up auntie O." Evan told her trying not to let a yawn out.

Ororo's heart swelled at that." I'm… to be honest I'm not doing so great." She wasn't one to hide her feeling especially when it comes to her family. "But I'm already feeling a little better now that you're here." That was the truth when she caught sight of Evan she felt herself smile despite everything. She put out her arms indicating she wanted a hug which he gladly gave her one. When it came to hugs with Evan he usually avoided them as much as he could because it was embarrassing to get hugged by your parents or in this case his aunt.

"I'm sorry auntie O." He said in her shoulder. He didn't really know how to comfort someone in this situation.

"Thank you Evan. This means a lot to me."

Suddenly remembering they weren't alone Even broke the hug with a blush creeping to his face. "Morning…" His voice cracked badly so he tried again. "Morning Professor Xavier." He felt he could die from embarrassment.

"Good morning Evan." The professor greeted then turned to Ororo. "To what we discussed, everything should be ready soon." Evan had no idea what they were talking about but didn't have enough courage to ask.

"Thank you Charles." Ororo looked at the clock on the wall. It was getting closer to seven and she wanted to bring Peter to the kitchen for breakfast while introducing him to a few students. "Sorry to cut everything short but I should get Peter soon."

"No problem Ororo. Maybe Evan would like to go with you." The professor suggested.

"How about it Evan? Do you want to meet Peter?" His aunt asked.

"Um… sure?" He would meet the boy sooner or later since he was living at the mansion but wasn't expecting to meet him like this. The two of them left the professor in the lounge and headed for Peter's room.

Evan suddenly felt nervous. What if he was like the people who bullied mutants just because they hated them? He knew the professor said he was fine but he couldn't help but worry about it. As if reading his mind his aunt spoke. "Don't worry Evan, Peter is a great kid. I wouldn't have brought him here if he didn't like mutants."

" If you say so." To have his aunt say Peter was a good person was reassuring to him. " But jeez sometimes it feels like we have a third mind reader besides the professor and Jean." Causing his aunt to chuckle.

" Actually Peter thought I was a mind reader before I showed him my powers."

"What really? Man its scary how accurate you can sometimes. Maybe you are a mind reader or an empath and you don't know it yet." Evan was only half serious.

"Nah I'm just good at reading people. Even if I could somehow get the ability to read minds I wouldn't take it." Being a telepath is not a power she'd want to have. She didn't like the idea of it being so intrusive and the power itself was something hard to control. She remembered when Jean's powers were growing and couldn't control it. If it wasn't for Rogue using her own powers to stop her she wondered what else would they have done to help the red head.

"Yeah me neither. Besides if their were any more telepaths around here they could practically start a club." Evan imagined them talking about a chapter of a book but only speaking in their heads. Maybe they would purposely go in different rooms to talk to each other. The more he thought about it the more weird it got.

The arrived at Peter's room which his aunt didn't hesitate to knock on. "Peter it's me Ororo. I'd like to take you to breakfast." They heard some shuffling around before the door opened revealing a short brown haired boy. He was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday so they were quite crinkly. He also had some noticeable bags under his eyes indicating he didn't sleep well or if at all. The boy also didn't expect to see another person with her as nearly retreated. "Peter this is my nephew Evan Daniels. Evan this is Peter Parker." She introduced them.

"Hey." Evan was first to speak scratching his neck awkwardly.

"Hello." Peter said back nervously. Because he was so tired he didn't hear there was another person with her. It was quiet until Ororo broke the silence.

"Lets show you where the kitchen is. Do you want anything particular for breakfast?" She asked. Peter ended up shrugging but Evan answered.

"Can you make your pancakes auntie O?" She was great at making pancakes and was craving some. "With chocolate chips in them?" He added excited to eat his aunts cooking.

"Sure I can do that."

On the way to the kitchen Evan asked Peter if he liked skateboarding. Evan wasn't great with small talk and skating was the first thing that came to mind.

"Its alright. I tried it once as a kid but ended up falling and breaking my wrist." Since then he hadn't touched a skateboard. But recently he had this weird dream that he was skateboarding in an abandoned warehouse. It was really odd as he doesn't see himself doing that ever.

They reached the kitchen and Ororo started making pancakes right away. Peter and Evan sat down while she cooked. Peter was fiddling with his thumbs and Evan didn't know what to say so he turned on the TV. The news was talking about how Spider-Man hasn't been seen in a few days and if was okay. Not one for watching the news Evan turned the channel till he got to one he liked which was playing an anime called ultimate muscle he liked to watch.

Peter however felt bad after seeing the news. He already missed so many days of patrol that people were starting to notice his absence. How many more people after May he could have saved but didn't because he was to miserable to go out as Spider-Man. He decided he was going to go out on patrol tonight.

Ororo already made a few dozen of pancakes by the time Scott and Jean came in and joined them.

"That smells great!" Commented Scott. "Mind if we join in?"

"Of course I'm making enough for everyone. Jean, Scott would you mind setting the table?" She asked politely as she flipped more pancakes.

"Sure." Then her eyes wandered over to where Evan and another boy sat. She smiled. "You must be Peter! I'm Jean Grey and this is Scott Summers." She said introducing them both before opening a cupboard that had plates in them while Scott grabbed the silverware. Which they set as many as possible on the table as more students will eventually join them.

"Er... yeah I'm Peter." He said lamely back but she didn't seem bothered by his response.

"Nice to meet you. If you ever need anything you can come to me." She offered.

"Same with me." Said the brown haired boy with sunglasses. Noticing Peter's stare she spoke. "I can shoot optic lasers out of my eyes but can't control them. So I got these sunglasses specially made for me so I don't go destroying buildings or hurt people." He explained. Peter was truly curious on how it worked but before he could ask about it another girl showed up.

Surprisingly that girl was Kitty. I suppose she was excited about meeting the new boy she came early. She walked up to him before saying. "Hi I'm Kitty Pryde. If you ever need someone to show you around at school I'll happily do it." The brunette said brightly sitting down next to him. Ororo then proceeded to fill the plates with chocolate chip pancakes which Evan happily dug into. Jean and Scott thanked her before sitting down on Evans side of the table.

"Oh… alright. I'm not sure when that will be though." Ororo had mentioned in passing that he wont be going to school till after the funeral at least to recover. School wasn't really on his mind these days but having someone to show him around sounded nice. He wouldn't have asked for a tour himself though.

"Right so what is some your favorite hobbies? I personally like to shop at the mall." She was purposely avoiding any touchy subjects and instead asked a safe topic to talk about. She really does like the mall so much, Rogue had called her a shopaholic multiple occasions jokingly.

"Science I guess its nothing special." Peter shrugged picking at his pancakes. He never seems in the mood to eat anymore but ate anyways because people would notice. But tried to eat as much as he could so he wouldn't pass out as Spider-Man and thought of a lot of ways that could go wrong.

"Nothing Special? I heard you read Dr. Banners papers and understood them." Ororo Said proudly. She heard this from May months ago and was surprised on how smart he was. This caused the occupants in the room to gape at the boy.

"Wow that's amazing!" Kitty said impressed.

"Do you have any idea what career you want to do?" Asked Jean curiously.

"Not sure yet. I also like doing photography so there's that also." He sometimes sold pictures of himself as Spider-man to help his aunt around with the apartment much to her dislike. One she didn't like that he was putting himself in danger by going near Spider-Man. Not that she thought he was a criminal even though the daily bugle painted him as one. No it was because Spider-Man was always where crime was happening so she was worried for his safety. And two she didn't want to put that kind of responsibility on him since he was just a child and she should be the one taking care of him even if money was tight.

Ororo smiled at the scene before her. Peter was actuality speaking to people although only when directly talked to. It was progress. But of course she didn't expect him to be suddenly better. She figured sooner or later he'll talk a step back and she'll be there for him when he does.

After more and more people came in and started talking to Peter. He was starting to get overwhelmed with how many people there and started fidgeting. Noticing this Ororo bid everyone farewell and took Peter with her away from the kitchen. After leaving Peter felt himself relax a bit. "Thank you." He said. They seemed like really nice people but it was getting a bit too much.

"Hey I'm proud of you of doing that much. You can meet the rest of them some other time okay? "Which he nodded to. "There's a few things I want to tell you. Firstly I got you a new phone." She handed him an iPhone. It wasn't the latest iPhone out but it was still a very good one.

"What!?" He gaped. " No I can't except that." He pushed her hand back. It was one thing to accept food or something, but an iPhone was another thing entirety.

"Of course you will. I noticed your phone has a giant crack on it which will probably effect your phone sooner or later. And as your guardian now, I cant have you running around with a broken phone." At this Peter reluctantly took the phone. His current phone the sound was going out which he discovered the other day when Ned called him. "It put my number along with the other teachers in case you need someone and I'm not available. And I'm sure the other kids will be wanting to exchange numbers as well."

"Thank you." He said again like a broken record putting the phone in his pocket. "Err… what else did you want to talk about?"

"I was talking to Professor Xavier earlier about your aunts funeral. Its going to be this Sunday." At the news Peter's face darkened. "After the funeral we were thinking you could start school sometime at the end of the week. We already have you enrolled at Bayville but we're giving you some time to recover."

"I… Thank you." Peter choked out suppressing a sob. Every time his aunt was brought up he felt tears coming. Peter surprised her by initiating a hug but happily returned it. He separated himself from the hug and noticed a wet spot on her shoulder from crying. "S-Sorry." He apologized quickly.

"It's alright, I don't mind at all." She reassured him. "Now since the others are heading to school I figured I'd give you a tour of the mansion." Peter nodded as he wanted the distraction. After the tour he excused himself and went back into his room.

Being social with everyone was exhausting. Even before May's death being and intervert he didn't make friends very often. He had a boy he was briefly friends with as a young child whom he met while playing at the park. He just stopped showing up one day and was sad that his playmate was gone. Then he had met Ned and quickly became best friends. Then the thing with his babysitter happened which caused him to have severe trust issues with males. There was also this one girl named Michelle that he wasn't friends with per say but she was one of the only other people besides Ned in his school he liked.

The day went by slowly as his thoughts were occupied by his aunt. Ororo and the others adults (minus Logan) checked on him once in awhile even bringing him lunch which mostly sat untouched. When dinner came around Ororo took him outside on a patio to eat.

"I know I pushed you out of your comfort zone this morning but I thought we could eat dinner with it being just us." She didn't want to push him to far as that would only back fire. So while the other kids eat inside they'll be outside. She also wanted to get him out of his room since he's been in there sulking all day. She had made some hamburger helper which like his lunch he was just picking at it.

"Thanks. I haven't even met them all but I was getting overwhelmed." He admitted. "And thank you for the meal."

"Your welcome but you know Pete, May would fuss at you on how little your eating." This was starting to become a habit that she didn't want to continue. She made a promise to take care of Peter and she wasn't going to fail now or ever. She almost hated bringing up May but she didn't want her name to become taboo to say like lord Voldemort.

Of course Peters eyes bugged at the name of his aunt. He held his head down and sighed. "I know your right but I just cant help it." Whenever he would think of his aunt (which is a lot) he suddenly feels ill and the thought of eating just wasn't his top priority. This morning it was so chaotic it districted him enough to eat pancakes to help fuel his night activities as Spider-man.

"You don't have to eat it all but please eat a little more. Your aunt wouldn't want you to do this to yourself." Ororo reasoned.

"I'm sorr- I mean I'll try." He told her as he took another bite.

"Good that's all I ask is for you to try." Peter indeed ate more leaving less than half before asking if he could be excused as he wanted to turn in early. Satisfied with his plate she nodded.

He walked in his room without running into anyone. He supposes it was because they were all eating dinner. After shuting his door he grabbed his Spider-Man suit and put it on. Then he snuck out of the window going on patrol for the first time since his aunts passing.

For awhile he didn't see any crime but then he saw two buffed dudes in an alleyway hassling an old lady for her purse. One held a pipe the other had a crowbar.

"S-Stay back." The elder cried. "I got p-pepper spray!" She held up a small can of pepper spray hand shaking.

"Ha like that will stop us! Just save us the trouble and hand us the purse lady." Said one of the men. He had a scar across his face and was balding. He also had an Russian accent.

"Yeah were not afraid to get ruff with ya if we have to." Said the other muscled man. Unlike the other guy he actually had a lot of hair. His hair was tied up in a pony Tail and had a beard that was so long it was starting to knot up. This one didn't have an accent like his buddy.

Before letting it escalate any further Peter used his webbing yanking their weapons out of their hands. "Hey have you guys ever seen the meme shocked pikachu face? Well that's kind of what you guys look like right now." He quipped.

"Shit I thought he only did Queens. I ain't going to let some spider freak stop me!" The bald one stupidly attacked the hero which he easily jumped over kicking him into the alleyway wall shooting his webs making him stick. He struggled of course but in was useless. "Dam you! You'll pay for this freak." He shouted.

"If I had a dollar every time a criminal said that I'd be-" His spider sense went off causing him to leap away. While he was taking care of baldy his buddy thought he would attack from behind.

"Kazimir!" The long haired man called. "How dare you!" He also charged at Spider-Man again only to be easily dodged and kicked him towards his buddy whom he also webbed.

"I don't get why petty criminals feel the need to attack one at a time like an action movie but it certainly makes my job easier!" Ignoring the criminals yells he walked towards the shaking old lady. "Your safe now mam. Do you need me assist you home?" He didn't want to make sure the lady ended up safe and not mugged again.

"Oh if that's not to much trouble." He then escorted the old lady to her apartment a couple blocks over. "Well thank you young man. I knew you weren't bad like Jameson said you were."

"Your welcome. Your friendly neighborhood Spider-man is always willing to help people in need!" On the inside he was fuming. No matter what he did Jameson always painted him as the bad guy no matter what good he did.

The rest of the night was just the first. Petty criminals thinking they can beat Spider-Man but failing to do so. After stopping a few more minor crimes Peter decided to head back to the mansion. Sleep came easily but staying asleep was a challenge.

The day of the funeral was a cloudy one but Ororo using her powers made they day sunny. There were a lot of people at the funeral which didn't surprise her as May was a very kind person who made many friends over the years. Charles and hank came to show his support for both Peter and Ororo. Hank wore a special watch like Kurt did to make him look normal so he wouldn't scare the people at May's funeral half to death. Everyone else stayed home at the mansion with Logan to watch over them.

Ned and his parents was also here at the funeral as Peter informed them of the details. Since they grew up together Ned saw May quite often and thought she was a wonderful person that got taken from them way to soon. Whenever he was over at their place she would always ask if they needed anything even though she didn't have to. When his grandfather was having problems suddenly, his parents asked May if they could watch him while they went to his grandparents house. Of course May took him in without hesitation. May in a way was like a second mother to him.

Ned saw Peter standing in front of a collage of pictures of May. Some pictures had other people with May. He saw Ben, Peter, Peters parents and a woman he assumed was Ororo from Peters description. "Hi Peter…" He greeted causing his friend to turn around. Peter looked terrible like he hasn't slept properly in weeks. Not that he blamed him especially on the day of his aunts funeral but that didn't mean he wasn't worried for his friends health. If he wasn't doing well as Peter that meant he had more of a chance to get hurt as Spider-Man.

Upon seeing his friend Peter spoke. "Hey… thanks for coming Ned."

"Of course! You're my best friend Pete, I would never let you face this alone." Ned knew Peter would do the same if instead one of his parents died.

"Still I appreciate it Ned." He said tiredly. He had gone for a few patrols for the first time during his stay at the mansion which caused him to be a bit more tired than usual. Nothing but a few petty criminals to his relief as he doubted he would be very much help fighting a super villain in his current state. The toughest criminal he fought against was Dr. Octopus which he had barely won. He had a cut that needed stitched on his thigh and a few broken ribs. He stitched the cut himself (it wasn't very good) because the last time he had been bleeding, he went to Ned's place he had passed out from the sight of blood. He was glad to had stopped him but didn't want to fight super villains on a daily basis.

Before Ned could say anything back they were greeted by the professor, Hank and Ororo. "You must be Ned Leeds." Ororo said while he confirmed with a nod. "I heard a lot about you from Peter. I'm Ororo Munroe, but please call me Ororo."

"Good things I hope?" He said nervously. He wasn't good with new people but from what Peter has told him she was a very kind person. The other two he knew less about but knew of them.

"Very. I'm glad Peter has a great friend he can count on." She gave a small smile. "These are my friends Charles Xavier and Hank McCoy" She introduced them.

Everyone talked for a little bit till it was time to pay their respects to May. Well Ned and Peter mostly listened while the adults talked.

Peter didn't want to look at his aunts dead body so May was put in a closed casket at the funeral.

At the end of the funeral service both Peter and Ororo had written something to say to May. Ororo started first and when she was finished she was nearly in tears. When it was Peter's turn he started crying uncontrollably during his speech. Ororo then went up next to him and comforted him while he cried which he was thankful. Peter eventually got through what he had written for his aunt although he was a mess still.

To Peter everything hurt and he felt hopeless. That night he made a silent promise to May that he'll try to become happy again. For her he will try.

AN: so like the first 5 chapters I had an idea what I wanted to do but chapters after that will be written as I go. And because of that chapters after chapter 5 will be a bit slower to come out. This will be the last update till August. Until next time!
