A/N: As you'll soon read, this story is written as though the MC found a way to connect to our world from his own. This means that the story is written as though the MC has decided to publish his own adventures.
The first chapter is in 1st person and acts similarly to author notes written by the MC, but aside from that, most of the story will be written in 3rd person. The only exception to that is the in-between, when the MC reincarnates again, and when he decides to reply to comments. The Harry Potter adventure is written as though it has already happened from the MCs perspective, but future adventures readers may be able to influence.
SPOILERS: I intend to have several chapters with the MC as Dumbledore before he reincarnates back in time and replaces James Potter. This is an OP harem story, and the girls that will join James are going to be Lily Evans, Narcissa Black, Pandora Lovegood (Luna's mother in this universe, and why she's still Lovegood will be explained) and Amelia Bones. Some of the ages will be adjusted. Some shenanigans will happen to allow adding Hermione, Luna, Tonks and Fleur to the harem without making it creepy.
I intend to write some lemons, though not excessively, but they will come at a later point. I haven't written lemons before so I'll see how it goes before determining if it's going to be a more permanent part of my style.
Before I begin my story, some explanation is in order. I have already lived three lives – or perhaps more, depending on how you count them, as it gets a bit complicated when it comes to my previous life… Well, that part will be explained when it's relevant, which isn't now, so I guess I'm babbling and wasting time and not getting to the point and I should stop now…
Right, so I'm now between my "third" and "forth" lives, and I've been able to use the knowledge and experience with magic that I've obtained in my previous life in order to connect to my original dimension. And you should feel honored, for I did this purely to bring to you the story of my life! A story of which you've probably read plenty of times! A wish fulfillment self-insert story with low tension and almost no stakes!
If you're looking for a story of a high stakes battle between good and evil, this is not it. Those stories may be more interesting to read, but it wasn't the life I was looking for. Spoilers, I won, and it was easy. That's how I liked it, because I'm a little bitch. I'm not some battle maniac that is looking for challenges, I wanted to play with this cool toy called magic and feel better about myself. While I liked the excitement I got from amusement parks and the like, life-or-death battle was a big Nope from me. My first life was average, boring and overall unfulfilling, and it was mostly my fault. If I want a challenge in the future, I can just nerf myself. Simple.
Anyway, that's that. As I said, my first life was pathetic, the only noteworthy thing about it is the way I died. It was a divine error. And not the god sneezed and I got hit by lightning, nope. I was in my room when suddenly Truck-Kun came through and claimed my life. Problem is, I live on the fourth floor, so…
So that's how I found myself sitting in some rather bland office, and in front of me was an angel. It was rather disappointing to realize that my angel isn't some hot babe, and it made me feel worse to find out that the angels don't have a specific form, they just take a shape that I would be comfortable with. Apparently, they determined that I would be distracted by hotness, and decided that some middle aged man would be the best. The angel wanted me done and gone as soon as possible, so I was not going to get eye candy so soon.
So far, this wasn't the start of an empowering self-insert adventure, but it will be!
The divine error was explained to me at that point. Nepotism at its finest, I'm telling you! Even angels aren't immune to it. Though, to be fair, calling them angels creates a false impression. In the end, they are just office workers on a higher dimension, and I'm dealing with Customer Service in the Reincarnation Cycle Department. Being an angel doesn't sound so impressive anymore, right?
And what about me? Well, some moronic intern that got his position thanks to his uncle or something messed up with my paperwork. Frankly, if my death wasn't due to a catastrophic glitch in reality that caused a truck to appear in mid-air and collide with a building, they would probably throw me back into the cycle without a fuss. But the cause of death being what it was, it placed a lot of stress on my soul, whatever that means.
What it means to me? They have to patch me up, and that instantly qualifies me for an upgrade! Technically, they could fix me up properly, but it would take time, and get the boss to notice, and unfortunately the intern won't get blamed. Because of nepotism. So to not get someone else to get punished for the intern's error, I got the Isekai treatment! While rare, it does happen from time to time. Lucky me. No, really, that part wasn't sarcasm. You won't be getting some period of moping for all the people I left behind from me. My parents were lovely people, but I was an unappreciative jerk and distanced myself from my family for no apparent reason, and now I get rewarded. Completely undeserved, and I don't care.
So then came the terms, the whos and whens and whats and so on. And the best thing was? This was just some tired office worker that wanted to get things over with. I wasn't facing some ROB that wanted to be entertained. I had several options, and all of them were pretty great. But there was one that I found really attractive. The thing that interested me the most is that I would be able to pick (almost) any character I want (they need to have a respectable presence within the story), and have my soul, and thus memories, in a dormant state. Then I could choose when to awaken, as long as it happens before the story this character appears in begins, and as long as the soul itself isn't messed with. I was also getting some leeway when it comes to the bonus abilities I'll be getting.
In exchange? I'll occasionally be sent into worlds that I don't choose, where they are thrown out of balance. I'll be told what that balance is supposed to be and whatnot, and my job will be to try and fix it. They wouldn't be throwing me into the deep end too soon regardless, but I was also planning on obtaining some abilities that will make it a non-issue in all but the most extreme situations.
Why was this option so appealing to me? Because I didn't want to start with nothing. Actually, I wanted to start with a whole bunch of something. Being able to start as someone knowledgeable, experienced and powerful was something my lazy ass badly wanted.
Alright, I'll stop being a tease and get to the point.
I'll start as Dumbledore! I'll take over before the Potters are killed, save the day, fix the wizarding world (a bit, I'm not a miracle worker), steal a bunch of resources and then off to my next great adventure! This option is an obviously very abusable cheat. Pick one of the strongest characters in the story and bam, you get a lot of power without really working for it. I'm not going to abuse it, much. What I was looking for was a solid starting point. For me, the thing that interested me in the Harry Potter world wasn't the battles, I didn't care for the drama or intrigue. I wanted to mess around with magic. Spending years learning what I can do before I can start doing anything wasn't what I was looking for in my adventure. I'll be going to school, sure, but I was going to play by MY RULES!
I had no intention of being reborn as a Kage just to have their skills and then restart as Naruto or something. Why? Because battles were the point of Naruto. Maybe it's illogical or hypocritical of me to think that starting off with Dumbledore level skills and knowledge is fair, but Hokage or Broly level strength isn't… I never claimed to be consistent.
Enough of that! The last point is my additional powers. Yes, there were limits, stuff like instant mastery weren't allowed, nor could I get something that was instantly immensely powerful. Gamer systems were also somewhat forbidden. They were complicated, they basically granted you something from nothing. Quest rewards was the most glaring issue for some systems, but the level system in its core was problematic. I could pick those systems if I really wanted to, but then I would be limited to worlds that can support those systems, so it wasn't really worth it.
So what did I get? Somewhat modified versions of Great Sage and Predator, based on the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime series, as well as being able to receive and share all abilities I have with beings I'm bonded with. Not exact copies, with one of the main differences being that Great Sage couldn't develop an AI. I was uncomfortable with the idea of a skill of mine getting independence. Or watching me. Plus, a lot of time they get less and less involved in the stories, and with my luck, my skills might develop depression. Nope.
Great Sage will basically work as an assistant. It won't be able to do anything original, but analysis, calculations, simulations and data collection and processing should be well within its capacity. Predator allows me to absorb anything (some limits apply to living beings) and gain their abilities to certain extent if I make it part of me. Plus, unlimited extradimensional space! The ability sharing aspect? I didn't want to consume Fawkes unless I had to… It also works the other way around, anything bonded to me will gain access to those abilities, though not to their full capacity in certain cases.
Of course, those abilities, Predator especially, sound as though they go against the "instantly immensely powerful" limit, right? Apparently not. Oh, you expected some more details regarding why it's fine? Well then…
Nope.
I also discovered that I will be receiving another "ability", and I can't refuse. The Harem Protagonist! Well, that's not an accurate name or description for the ability, but that's what I'm calling it. It basically means that the world considers me being in multiple relationships as something that's not really out of the ordinary. It isn't as if harems are suddenly acceptable within the world (unless it's a world where they already were), but this "ability" makes me an exception. It sounds a lot like brainwashing, and it is, but it applies to the entire world and not just potential lovers… It doesn't make me more desirable or anything of the sort, it just makes the concept of harems acceptable when it comes to me. I can't do anything about it either, and no girl will be forced to accept me, so I don't dwell on it for long.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not actually bothered by it, though the mental manipulation aspect does make me queasy. Building a harem of fictional girls across the multiverse is a complete self-indulging power-fantasy, but that was the point behind this entire deal. Why would I object?
Apparently, having only two people living together for eternity only delays that madness, at least according to the angel. And yes, eternity. Whoever I bond with me will be reincarnating alongside me. Having multiple romantic partners I'm invested in means that I'll be more compelled to listen to them and not brush them off whenever it's inconvenient, which will serve to ground me while preventing an accumulation of stress from having only one person preventing me from going down the path of madness. Or so they say. I'm not sure I appreciate the implications regarding my character, but I guess I can understand where they are coming from. Considering I'm keeping my memories and I'll be growing in power constantly, I am a potential risk and love is a classical grounding force. Love usually leads to Bad End only due to some tragedy, and with my future abilities that simply won't happen.
Of course, it could simply be that someone up here has some voyeuristic fetish and that's why I'm being pushed into fulfilling a harem fantasy, or maybe it is my own hidden desires that these divine beings unearthed and went along with. At this point I'm rambling and it feels like I'm too defensive. At that point of my reincarnation process I simply didn't think about it, and at this point I do have quite a few ladies with me, so whatever ploy it was to get me a harem is obviously working. Moving on…
With that, and some other stuff that I'll bother explaining later, as the exposition is getting a bit tedious at this point, my first adventure as an old guy that's nearing the end of his life begun!
