Prologue

It was because of my eyes, that I could see who people really were both human and supes. It was because of my eyes that I could see the true greed and evil that humans were capable of. When my father introduced me to Madelyn Stillwell, Senior Vice President of Vought International, I knew exactly what she was capable of. I knew exactly what Vought had done to so many people.

"Dad… is that why I am the way I am?"

"No baby never. Your gift comes from generations of powerful women. Your grandmother had the gift of the Eyes. She gave birth to me and the gift only goes to girls. So when you were born, I knew you were special."

"Is that why you had me meet that woman?"

"Yes. I wanted you to see into her and see the truth in her heart and soul…"

My dad worked for Vought International for most of his life. It helped pay my way through school. It was easy going through life being able to see people's spirits and all that they've ever done or what they will do. I honestly made a living as a psychic telling people's fortunes. Most of the time everything was accurate. I was never wrong, but if I wasn't sure I did my best to make predictions. The eyes are the windows to the soul, I remember my father saying. He passed away a few years ago, pancreatic cancer. Now it was just me, alone in this world. With the money I inherited from his life insurance policy, I lived comfortably in a nice two-bedroom townhome in upscale New York. If anyone really needed a prediction, I would go see them for a fee of fifty bucks.

I always knew if they were going to pay or not by simply making eye contact when I saw them. But alas this life I led was quite lonely that was until I found out I had an admirer…

Gala's that Vought threw every so often to celebrate new supes joining the company were always posh and perfect, almost too perfect. As usual Madelyn invited me so I could see the intent in the eyes of any political rivals of hers. She didn't even have to ask me anymore. She'd just invite me to a meeting in disguise as a brunch or a party. I'd tell her what she wanted to know and then by the next morning, fifty thousand dollars would be wired to my account. I was her little secret. Dad told her what I could do, even if he never said it out loud. He knew I'd find out. But I understood why. He needed money to pay for mom's chemo. Breast cancer. She beat it once, but it came back as fast and aggressive as ever. A part of him died when she died. And I knew he was happy to be dying from his cancer so he could be with her in the next life.

As the doors of the company were opened to me, I entered in a bohemian maxi dress. I wore brown wedges and black eye shadow with deep brown lipstick. My hair was pulled back in a bun with the majority hanging down, my curls bouncing with each step. Around my neck was a leaf necklace and around my neck were gold bracelets. I was offered a glass of red wine and I smiled and followed many of the other guests toward some elevators that would take us down into the main hall were the festivities were happening. I could hear music playing already, a piano mostly.

Many older women were glancing at me sneering some at the sight of me. No I didn't dress in super rich dresses and diamonds. I came as I was.

"Ayana!" I heard the voice of a man that makes me pause. My heart beat starts to increase and I close my eyes trying to still my heart. I opened them and turned smiling politely as the one and only Homelander approached me. I see only darkness in him. He is a dangerous wolf in sheep's clothing. He smiled handsomely at me and I nodded at him.

"Hello Homelander." I replied and he nodded at me.

"I didn't expect to see you here tonight." he said. We have only met a small handful of times and I knew I had given the impression that I did not trust him. He knew this and I didn't know if he planned to do anything about it. I couldn't see anything in his eyes.

"Yes. Madelyn asked me at the last minute to come. I am just as surprised as you are." I responded and he nodded smiling at others who passed.

"Hey there." he said to an older couple before looking back down at me. "Well how about I escort you down into the hall. I know these types of events aren't your thing, so I'll make sure you don't get too bored here."

He gave a brief laugh before raising his elbow to me. You do not deny Homelander. I nodded smiling still.

"Thank you." I replied wrapping my arm around his and we moved down the escalator into the world of the rich and powerful.

Author's notes

I just want to thank the guest who mentioned The Boys to me, because I have been wanting to write this fanfiction forever but kept forgetting to see if they had made a section for them yet on here.
