Chapter One : O Captain my Captain!

It is said that the sea holds the glory and fame that one could ever want. With the wind behind your sails, a person can venture across the world sparking the wondrous view of the ever blue sea. The fate of the adventurous stray far from these views as they face off against the hidden aggression of those who disturb the peaceful waters.

The clouds pitched their constant roar over their watery descent of those below. With the ever darkening night, a ship faces odds against the sea that seeks to pull them underneath. The vicious sounds of waves crashing against the hull, the constant battering of the sails, and lastly bubbles that rise through the movement of the storm through the dark blue waters. The night never did rest as the clamouring of sailors ran across the deck of the ship. The pulling of ropes and movement of equipment never ended until one sudden noise that came from the cabin of the ship. As if on cue, the crew stopped and laid their eyes upon the swinging door of the cabin. A man stepped out of the cabin and eyed around ever still silence. This man wore black cavalier boots, black trousers, a standard white blouse covered with exquisite red coat lined with silk and the initials M.D onto the collar. The most important piece that many sailors laid eyes on was the tri-cornered hat marked with a unique red feather that curled back. One could say this man had the look of a fierce captain of the deadly seas. This man could be no other than the infamous Blood Pirate Captain Marco Diaz.

As many were struck by the aura that was felt emitting from the Captain, they eased up as the silence was broken by a few words.

"What are you scallywags standing around for, those sails aren't gonna hoist themselves"

Without hesitation, the crew quickly rose back to work allowing the Captain to take a stroll up to the bridge. Overlooking at the raging tides that laid ahead of the bow, Marco checked the far distance of a way out of the storm. His eyes wondered however to the presence of the lady in front of him. The lady wore black leather boots with black breeches that had a special belt attached to her waist that no doubt had hidden blades in them and various potions. Strange enough, this person wore a brown shirt along with a black robe that carried the same unique red pattern that mirrored the captain.

The lady grinned and said eruptly, "Did you get that beauty sleep of yours Marco?"

"Of course not, the chances of my pistol going off while I'm asleep during this storm is high. It'll strike my head no doubt." Marco said eagerly.

"But of course, the Safe Kid is very protective in the slim chance that death can sweep him up and gobble him" as she replied with a chuckle.

Marco frowned at the lady's obvious behaviour of mischief as she somehow was holding Marco's flintlock pistol in her hand. "Janna, how many times must I tell you to not bring up the captain's old title in front of him." said the man who walked slowly towards them.

"But, of course you're in the right when you're singing tales about the Captain during break Oskar? Marco stares at them both with one of his eyebrows arched as if he wasn't aware of this. But of course, Marco knew what the two were always up too behind his back. Since they have been friends with one another since the start of his fame and glory. However if there is one thing that he wished he hadn't brought with him was his unique title given by his crew and that was the "Safe Kid". The two kept bickering with one another as Marco strayed deeper into his thoughts of his past. What had led him onto this path, what made him into the feared Blood Captain of the seas. Although many witnessed his actions, none had asked or questioned the feelings of the 16 year old Captain.

Suddenly, a bright light flashed towards the ship as the vigorous dangers of the storm passed, Marco smiled at the sight and interrupted the two in front of him. In a confident tone, the Captain addressed the bickering mates before him. 'Oskar, hard to starboard and make way to land" as he pointed at the light.

"Aye, aye, Captain." Oskar cheered as he made his way back to the helm and steered the ship.

Afterwards, Marco stepped up to the ledge of the bridge and addressed the pirates under his command. "Argh! Fearful pirates under my command, prepare thy cutlasses and prepare to land!" The men cheered and began their preparations of landing, only a few seconds later, Janna looked at the blinding light with a spyglass. Only to inquire on the flag that laid at the highest point of that tower. As stealthy as she can be, Janna attempted to enter the Captain's Cabin , however Marco caught and interrupted her by saying a few words.

"That flag's symbol is a butterfly meaning we are within the kingdom of Mewni, so First Mate Janna, there is no need to search for its meaning within the confines of my belongings."

Janna stared at Marco for a few seconds with fastincation that he concluded the reasons behind her interests. She shrugged her wonder off and answered him with an eager smile, "Aye,aye captain."

As Janna left, Marco began to patrol the ship keeping out of the way of pirates performing the landing procedures. That was until he bumped into two pirates that were oblivious as to what was happening around them. Marco stared at them and noticed the state of their clothes. Drenched in water and what was left dry was the red bandana that was given to all crew members aboard Marco's ship. Before he could address their attire, one of them slipped after stepping onto a bucket and slammed himself against the other person.

"Oi, Fergusson why you have to be such a land-lubber on board this fine ship"

"Watch what you say there Alphonso, you were pretty livy-livered during that last raid"

Marco watched the two go back and forth with their bantering until they noticed their captain staring straight at them. Almost immediately they stood straight up and saluted their captain unaware of what was going on around them.

Marco coughed and yelled, "What are you scoundrels still doing here? Did ye want a visit to Davy Jones's locker?"

The two replied in a cowardly voice " N-no Captain!"

Marco looked at them and gave them their orders, "Alrighty then, you two buffoons are in charge of lowering the anchor once we get close, are ye savvy?"

Fergusson and Alphonso gave each other reassuring looks and ran off to handle the anchors while saying "Aye, Aye Captain!"

Marco began his stroll once again until he heard Oskar shout "Captain! You are gonna want to see this"

Without any delay, Marco ran up to the bridge and stared across the horizon as he saw a fleet of ships each waving a different flag. Immediately, Marco told Oskar to keep the boat hidden within the island's shadow and called to Ferguson and Alphonso to lower the anchors. Afterwards, he called onto the pirates to begin to set up camp along the shoreline. Giving Janna permission to handle the crew during his absence. As well as the handling information about the pirate's time to strike. Marco alongside with his helmsman Oskar took a rowboat towards the destination of Mewni's port.

The prosperous land of Mewni, composed of several kingdoms allied together to quell international matters to the land. This alliance can be referred to as the United Mewni Commission. However there are a couple things unique about this land. For starters, the different kingdoms divided all looked up for the support of the Royal Butterfly Family of the Butterfly Kingdom. Another thing is the different races that divide the land. A race of Monsters and the race of Mewmens. Lastly, the struggles of technology within the kingdom is made up by the unique form of magic.

Magic, a force so unique is held with great respect within the lands of Mewni. Primarily because magic in Mewni is only channelled through the noble bloodline of two respected kingdoms. The prominent being the Butterfly Kingdom and the other kingdom known as the Lucitor Kingdom. Both kingdoms prove to be adept influencers that affect the state of Mewni. Aside from that, the peace of the realm lies well-rested under the guidance of the Royal Crown. However, there is one issue that remains, that is the struggles of controlling a certain princess.

The royal Butterfly castle stands tall and mighty, showing the scars of fierce sieges that engaged the enemy over the centuries. The flags of the Butterfly kingdom fly without waver, and suddenly an explosion sparks within the castle. Amidst the clouds of dust is the sound of a male.

"Star! You know your mother is not going to be pleased that you blew up the tower for the third time this week."

As the dust settles, there is a blonde haired girl with sparkling blue eyes staring at a massive book. Strange enough, the voice of the male comes from a tiny blue man who is floating on air. This person floats with ease towards the giant book, the girl notices the enclosing miniature man and pulls out a cup of pudding.

"Heya Glossarack! Could you do that cool thing that you do with your hands and repair the tower? I'll give you pudding" she says with a brightening smile across her face.

The small blue man shrugs and replies "Of course Star, I'll fix this right up as soon as I get a taste of that delicious pudding."

Star hands off the cup of pudding and almost immediately jumps when someone begins pounding the door. Panicking that whoever was behind the door could be her mother, however within a blink of an eye. The room was brought back to its original state before the destruction, and Glossarack continued to eat his pudding with ease despite pulling off a powerful spell. Upon looking around at the newly reconstructed room, Star opens the door revealing a man carrying a scroll and wearing a yellow feathered hat.

The man walked into the room, opened up the scroll and stated in a loud upbeat voice."Princess Star, Her Majesty Queen Moon has summoned you to join her within the throne room."

"Manfred, how many times must I tell you that you don't have to address me formally?" Star replied as Manfred rolled up the scroll.

"My deepest apologies, princess but I have a duty to perform as your parent's head servant."

"That is alright Manfred, I understand that you are just doing your job but it wouldn't kill you to call me Star."

Glossaryck intervened in the conversation as he told Star, "Star, I think we concluded our lesson and you probably shouldn't keep your mother waiting."

Upon hearing Glossaryck's words she frowned and began to walk into the empty corridors towards the throne room. As she leaves, Manfred shares a curious look towards the strange crack in the wall. However, Glossaryck kindly reminded him that he had further duties around the castle. Creating an opportunity to quickly clean up the room and start planning Star's next lesson.

Within the throne room, there are 3 unique thrones fitted to suit the needs of comfort for the members of the ruling family. The first throne on the far right side is a small throne, much as it sparkles with pink pillows for back support is the princess's throne. This is followed by the King's Throne which is a delicately carved wooden throne that depicts the King's background of a Johansson Jarl. Lined with features that proved his valor through several tests of strength. Lastly is the grandest throne of the entire room, held significantly for the Queen of Mewni. The queen's authority outranks everyone and her orders are absolute. This is proven through the wondrous show of colors and butterfly emblems visibly seen across the throne. With the most prominent color being blue as a representation that follows the current queen's magical capability as well as her title. Moon the Undaunted.

Moon was seated on her throne discussing the matters of realm with the counsel of her husband, River who was also seated on his throne.

"River, what do you think of the recent pirate raids on the border of our neighboring allies?"

"Well moonpie, I believe that our allies are more than capable of fighting off a few pirates before it becomes a major issue that we send the Royal Navy."

River grinned as he bit off a large piece of meat from the drumstick he was holding. Hoping that he provided his wife with some sort of reassurance, he brought up the topic of the matter at hand. Despite being short for a man, River has consistently shown himself worthy of being a king when it comes to topics he is rather interested in. Moon looked deep into his eyes and followed River's conversation and his thoughts on the matter.

"If we immediately send help to our allies about a matter that can easily be dealt with by their own navy, we must show that we firmly believe that their kingdom can handle themselves."

River proudly said although he had other hidden intentions to why he didn't want to aid his neighboring allies. Afterall, why would he risk the chances that his daughter will be taken away from a potential suitor who visited the kingdom because the waters were safe to travel.

Moon thought of River's words and replied "I'm sorry dear, but I decided to send our navy to aid our neighbours." Afterwards Moon whispered in her husband's ear, "Although I love it when you take charge." River, astounded by her complaint, leaned in to give her a kiss until the sound of a door being kicked in startled him into a viking-like battle stance.

"Alright Mom!, what is this super important thing that you had to send Manfred to get me?" Star shouted as she made her way over to the thrones.

River laughed and made a comment that her kick was from his Johansson genes however Moon wasn't pleased that her daughter just kicked down the throne room doors.

"Star, how many times must I tell you that you shouldn't kick down doors when you are entering a room." Moon stated as she stared down at her daughter. However, I'll let it pass for now since we have more important matters to discuss. As the three members of the Royal family settled down, Queen Moon began the conversation with an endearing reminder of the commitments of a noble particularly a princess. Star frowned at the thought of her responsibilities as a princess to uphold the torch passed down from each queen's rule to the next heir. Moon continued on with her lecture about responsibilities which to Star's mind came out as "blah, blah, blah". That was until Moon said something about a festival in the royal capital. This caused Star's eyes to brighten up and actually pay closer attention to her mother's words.

"Now Star, as you know we have a celebration to attend later today and you must be on your best behaviour."

"Of course Mom" Star said gleefully.

"Star, it is important that you are, after all there will be many visitors from around the land to take part in this celebration. Not to mention but one of these "visitors" could be a potential suitor for you dear."

However, as the word "suitor" came up in Moon's speech to Star, River intervened by shouting out loud "I shall not let any boy come close to my daughter without passing through me first!"

As Moon and River continued speaking about what would become of Star's chosen partner, Star began to think about her overwhelming responsibilities and how she wished to get away from it all. Afterall, being the crown princess usually means not being able to experience the world as a person without a title. No one speaks to her like a person constantly calling her princess or my lady or something that was too formal.

There was only that one moment when she ventured across the sea to a small town called Echo Creek. There was a boy there. There was a boy there she recalled who she associated with the color Red. She doesn't remember his name however as it has been 2 years since she came back from her journey. There was just some sort of mind block that prevented her from remembering what exactly happened that caused her to leave the town. Although she remembers that the boy nicknamed her Estrella Mariposa which was her name in his second language. Star was pushed out of her deep thoughts when her mother started to raise her voice.

"Star! This is the exact behaviour that I'm talking about, you can't be spacing out thinking about god knows what during the celebration. People will be expecting to speak with you when they have the chance."

Star with annoyed sigh replied, "Of course, Mom"

"Wonderful, now head off to your room and get changed." Moon said with complete disregard to her daughter's tone."

Star stormed off to her room as her mother and father continued their argument about the treatment of a potential suitor.

As Star barged into her room, she headed straight into her wardrobe that was filled with the many colorful outfits that she owned for each occasion. However, despite being a princess, she didn't refrain from going against her mother's words. Instead of choosing the corset that the servants sent down to her room for the festival. She grabbed an outfit that she recently received after going by the market for clothes. This outfit consists of dark purple boots, striped stockings, along with black shorts held up by a leather belt with a Star in the middle of it. There was also a blue long-sleeved shirt with an additional black waistcoat that included a special emblem of the Butterfly encased in the outline of a yellow star. Lastly, the final piece that made the outfit complete was a red horned headband. Finishing up, she looked at the mirror with a smile on her face. That was until she noticed the reflection of her mother standing in the doorway. Queen Moon didn't say anything about Star's outfit and looked at her daughter with a smile. Star, who was conflicted about her mother's usual reaction and her current reaction and gave her a hug. Moon quickly reciprocated and began tearing up, perhaps it was a mental breakdown from the royal duties of stress, or maybe she was allergic to the fabric of Star's clothes. These were possible reasons that flowed to Star's head as her mother began to cry. Unknowingly to the two in the room, River was standing in the hall just watching his wife and daughter bond. That was until he looked at the clock, and called out to his wife and daughter reminding them of the festival.

The two ladies sat there in the wardrobe, and Star decided that using Magic would be the fastest way to get her mother and herself ready for the festival in time. Star grabbed her wand, waving elegantly with the following incantation, "Radiant Shadow Transform" changing the outfits both royals were wearing into something more noble for a Queen and Princess to be attending a festival. Afterwards, they left the wardrobe meeting up with their carriages to the location of the festivities within the city.

The port of Mewni was filled with many exotic ships, people from around the land had come to the royal capital to partake in the celebrations with the royal family of Mewni. Of course, that meant security was at an all time high at the port. Nobles from different kingdoms had come to participate in a tournament that was supposedly dedicated to the Butterfly heir. However, there was also the sendoff of the Royal Navy of the Butterflies which sought to aid their allies in their pirate problem.

The rowboat tossed and turned at the timing of every wave that struck its side. The men in the rowboat were nervous, not because of the possibility that the boat will flip. Their nervousness came from the passing of several ships of the Royal Fleet as they departed from the docks. To ease some of their nerves, the passengers of the rowboat made remarks of irony.

"Funny ain't it, one of the most powerful fleets setting sail to face off small buccaneers when one of the most dangerous pirates arrives in their city." Oskar remarked as the last navy ship passed by them.

"Aye, that is an idea that brightens my eyes, tis only time till I dance with Jack Ketch at this port here if time isn't on our side" Marco replied.

Oskar managed to secure a spot on the dock that was on the far side of the port. The port was filled with many dangers to a pirate, about everyone despised pirates in this port especially the nobles who gossiped on the misfortune of pirates in their kingdoms. Even for a great pirate captain, being surrounded by enemies that could strike at any moment made Marco tense. Luckily, to Marco's ability, he works well under pressure and had already concluded on a path to his destination through the city. Nudging Oskar to get a move on, the two walked through the harbour with ease. Straying from guard patrols and pesky nobles, they managed to reach the end of the port until a voice of warning shouted towards them.

"Avast ye!" said one of the uniformed guards standing in front of them.

Marco looked at Oskar and whispered to him "Follow my lead."

As the guard walked closer to the two, Marco greeted him with a friendly smile.

"Ahoy there matey! Is there a problem?

The guard stunned by the sudden friendly gesture replied

"Aye sir, there has been word that pirates are lurking around the city. Any information regarding them is said to prove helpful in the kingdom's cause."

Oskar blinked and nervously smiled hoping that their cover wasn't already blown.

Without hesitation, Marco told the guard that they were bounty hunters searching for a job especially one that involves a pirate.

Catching Marco's hint, Oskar added, "That's right matey, we are disguised to trick our target into coming with us so he would go down easily."

Now that the guard understood their reasons in the city, he let them pass and went on carrying his duties.

Quickly walking away from the harbour, Marco and Oskar found themselves walking through the main streets of the city. All around them were banners of the Butterfly kingdom, as well as constant gossip of their daily lives. The two continued walking until they reached a spot where it was just themselves.

"So Captain, what is the plan here?" Oskar asked as he looked around.

"We need to restock on supplies without creating too much attention especially considering the Royal armada is on the sea." Marco responded as he scribbled down some notes.

"So how will we get these supplies Captain? We are short on coins and god knows that these people don't like pirates."

Marco rubbed his chin formulating the possibilities to get supplies, which was when the breeze blew by him. This breeze carried a paper of some sort, Marco picked up the paper and analysed it. On the paper, were black bold words "Tournament of the Strongest" and in the fine print was "all entries welcomed, the prize is meeting a dinner with the Royal family of Mewni as well as 500 Mewni Gold Coins." Oskar's eyes widened at the sight of the paper and looked at Marco. "You aren't thinking what I'm thinking you are about to do Captain?"

"Well we got to supply our ship somehow"

"Captain, it's too crazy of an idea! There will be noble houses from all around watching and if your cover is blown, You will be hanged at next light!"

Marco grinned at his worried friend, "Then it shall be known that I, the fearless Blood Captain Marco Diaz was the craziest captain that ever sailed these waters."

Afterwards, Marco told Oskar to inform his first mate Janna, to prepare the ship to sail into the port, the moment of his victory. As Oskar ran off, Marco walked towards the tournament site where the entry process awaited.

Chapter End

Author Notes: Hi there, This story is my first ever writing creation so I hope that I started it off well for this first chapter. Anyways I plan to leave notes here at the bottom of the chapters that addresses your thoughts or some terms within the story that may not be familiar with the audience.

If you were wondering about that part involving Marco speaking about "dancing with Jack Ketch." This phrase was somewhat popular with pirates as "Jack Ketch" was a famous executioner in England. This executioner's name became famous as it sparked fear within pirates who were captured and detained by the British Empire.

Anyways I'm Sir Doggo and I'll hope to see for the next chapter. Thanks for reading and feel free to leave a review.
