Time for the second story of Jewel's Saga, being a remake of Super Mario Sunshine! Now, to be completely honest, this is one of the only 3D Mario platforming games that I've never actually played, so this story is going to be a lot tougher to work on compared to the previous one.

Nonetheless, I still hope you enjoy it! I'll try my hardest to make it a great story despite with little knowledge!

Chapter 1: A Vacation Gone Wrong

Five days have passed since Jewel's first adventure in Peach's Castle with her old and new friends helping her out in saving the captured ones, and bringing peace back to the Mushroom Kingdom. Now, with that tiring adventure over, it was a perfect time for a vacation trip to a tropical paradise known as Isle Delfino, an island shaped like a dolphin.

Since it's always sunny and hot there, some of the people in the group had to wear appropriate clothing for that kind of weather. Mario was simply wearing a short-sleeved version of his normal outfit, while Peach was wearing a sleeveless light-pink version of her dress and lacked her gloves, as there was a gold ring bracelet on her left wrist. Jewel and Melissa, meanwhile, went all out and were dressed in actual swimwear.

Jewel had a pair of pink sunglasses on top of her head, lacked her crown, her earrings and gloves, and she had a lei of yellow and white flowers around her neck. Her outfit consisted of a yellow two-piece bikini with a diamond emblem in the middle of the top, a white long fabric tied around the waist to look like a skirt with yellow suns printed on it, and yellow flip-flops with a diamond emblem on the middle of the V-shaped band.

Melissa was wearing the same outfit as her sister, with the differences being that instead of sunglasses, she had a tan sunhat with pink and purple flowers attached to it, her lei had pink and black flowers, her two-piece bikini was deep pink with a pink rose emblem in the middle of the top, her skirt-like fabric was black and had pink stars printed on it, and her flip-flops were black with a pink rose emblem on the V-shaped band.

For Trifle, he had a dark blue Hawaiian shirt with white clouds printed on it, aqua-green shorts, and brown sandals. Neri, on the other hand, simply had her long skirt of her dress removed, making it look like she had a one-piece swimsuit, and her light-blue dress-like coverup was transparent and jellyfish-shaped, going all the way down past her feet.

The team members that Jewel had invited along with Mario and Peach were just Toon Link, as she knew that he lived in a tropical island so he would get used to the heat without having to change clothes, and Incineroar, as Isle Delfino's tropical environment might remind him of the Alola region. As for Trifle's team members, he invited Greninja, the Inklings, and the Pokémon Trainer Red, who made sure to bring his three Pokémon along. Neri, Toadsworth and a few Toads were also accompanying them as well.

Everyone was currently standing outside of Sunshine Airport near Peach's private plane, the Toad Express (having its appearance from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, not Sunshine's), as they were waiting for certain people to come here before they could depart. Then, after a little while of waiting, they looked over and saw Ren, who was dressed in his casual summer wear from his game and having Morgana back in cat form while inside his bag, walking up to them along with a group of teenagers.

[BGM: New Beginning – Persona 5]

"Hey." Ren waved. "Sorry we took so long. The check-in line was kind of long."

"Oh, it's fine." Jewel replied with a smile. "So, this group with you are the rest of the Phantom Thieves?" she asked, looking over at the other teenagers with Ren.

"Indeed." Ren nodded, and then turned to his group, who were also wearing their casual summer outfits from their home game. "Why don't you guys introduce yourselves to my new friends?" they nodded in response.

"Sup, guys? I'm Ryuji Sakamoto!"

"I'm Ann Takamaki!"

"Yusuke Kitagawa."

"Makoto Niijima."

"Haru Okumura!"

The last person was a bit too shy to introduce herself, as she was hiding behind Makoto.

"Um…" the girl started timidly. "F-Futaba Sakura here…"

"Oh… Is she usually this shy?" Melissa wondered.

"Well, let's just say that she used to be anti-social, so she gets a bit shy when meeting new faces…" Makoto replied sheepishly.

"Ah, got it."

"That's quite a crowd over here." Yusuke noted. "Nothing I've ever seen before…"

"That was my exact reaction when I first met them." Ren stated before facing the other group again. "Now, before we get to leave, I believe it's best if you introduce yourselves to my group first."

"That'd be wise." Trifle agreed, and then everyone else introduced themselves to Ren's group.

"Interesting names!" Haru exclaimed.

"Why, thank you!" Jewel giggled. "So, shall we depart now?"

"Oh, hell yeah!" Ryuji fist pumped. "I can't wait!"

"Same here!" Ann threw in.

"Splendid!" Peach chimed and directed everyone to the Toad Express as the camera pans up to it. "Let us board the Toad Express right now!"

[BGM End]

Later…

The Toad Express had already taken off and flying towards its destination, as everyone who boarded it were amazed after watching the ground getting further away. They already had this in their minds: this was going to be the best vacation ever! If only this would turn out to be true…

We cut to a shot of the Toad Express flying up high in the skies, with just a few clouds around. Inside, the plane featured two vertical rows of mushroom colored seats, with three on the left and two on the right. Mario, Peach, and Toadsworth were occupying the first three seats on the front, and occupying the three seats behind them were Melissa, Jewel, and Trifle respectively. Behind those three were Red, Inkling Girl, and Inkling Boy having a friendly chat together, and behind them were Ann, who was taking a sip of iced coffee, Ren, and Ryuji.

Moving on to the row of two seats, Toon Link and Neri were the ones occupying the seats in front, with Neri looking down at the window in amazement since she has never seen the sky so high up, while Toon Link was taking a nap. The seats behind them were occupied by Incineroar, who was also taking a nap, and Greninja, who was meditating. Going behind, Yusuke, who was drawing a picture, and Haru were the ones occupying the seats behind the two Pokémon, and next were Makoto, who was reading a book, and Futaba. Finally, the Toads were taking up the remaining seats at the very end.

Directly in front of the first rows of seats was a TV screen showing the plane's progress, and the moment it began to get close to the dolphin-shaped island that was surrounded by more sea creature-shaped islands, a logo of a Shine Sprite suddenly popped up from the island the plane was destined for.

"Ooh, look at that!" Peach awed, catching the attention of everyone else as they stopped at what they were doing and focused their eyes on the TV, where the Shine Sprite centered the screen before it changed into a dandy picture of a welcome sign with the words 'Welcome to Isle Delfino'.

The screen then changes into a live-recording of the island's plaza, where several Piantas were standing in front of the Grand Pianta Statue… while completely unaware of a strange oddly-shaped figure running and hopping around in the background.

"Welcooome to the sun-drenched tropical paradise of Isle Delfino! We're so pleased to welcome you to our beautiful home!" the blue Pianta in the center said cheerfully, as everyone was already piqued with interest about what this island has to offer as their eyes were fixated on the TV.

As the screen showed all the different places and attractions in the island, the blue Pianta continued, "Come enjoy a natural wonderland to which we've added the world's finest resort facilities, a spectacular amusement park, and…succulent seafood!"

"Oooohh…!" Mario's mouth watered the moment all that scrumptious seafood popped up in the TV as his eyes became hearts, while in the back, Morgana was drooling over the mention of seafood since he couldn't clearly see the TV.

"This and more await you on Isle Delfino! Come relax and let us refresh your body and spirit."

The Piantas then proceeded to do a little dance… and it was at this moment that Peach finally noticed the strange figure jumping around in the background, causing her eyes to widen.

"Mario…!?" she breathed, having a look of bafflement. Indeed; that figure was shaped and looked just like Mario! "That…that shadow…?" Peach wondered as she looked over at Mario, who was daydreaming about seafood, and then at Toadsworth, "Toadsworth, did you see…?" unfortunately, it would fall on deaf ears, as he too was fantasizing, making Peach sigh while shaking her head lightly. "I guess no one else saw it…"

"Pssst! Hey, Peach." Peach then heard whispering from behind her as she looked back to see Melissa and Jewel, who were the only ones not fantasizing, looking down at her from above her seat. "You're not the only one, we both saw it too." Melissa told her quietly.

"You have?"

"Yeah…" Jewel nodded, having a serious expression on her face. "And just by looking at that, we have a feeling that… this vacation will not turn out the way we expect it to be…"

Peach's expression changed to that of worry, wondering if Jewel was right about this and what could possibly go wrong upon their arrival. Outside, the plane began its decent, the clouds in front of it parting to show a bird's eye view of Isle Delfino.

A few hours later, the Toad Express started to descent towards Delfino Airstrip, where it came in for a smooth landing just fine… when all of a sudden, without warning, the plane made an abrupt halt as the pilot swerved it to the side, while everyone was knocked out of their seats, as apparently, there were no seatbelts installed in this plane.

"What happened?" Peach wondered.

One short cut to after everyone got out of the Toad Express later…

"What in the…?" Red blinked at what he and the others saw in front of them.

The reason behind the plane's rough landing was that there was a large mass of strange goop covering the middle of the runway, which has now become a depression where the goop was accumulated.

"What is that?" Inkling Girl asked. "Some sort of different type of ink?"

"I don't think so…" Inkling Boy trailed. "This looks pretty dangerous…"

"It looks like a giant pool of paint…" Yusuke mused.

Two of the Toads then ran up to the goop and stopped in front of it to examine it, before the red Toad asked:

"What's this icky, paint-like goop?"

"It's…moving!" the yellow Toad next to him caterwauled.

"Now now, boys! Don't touch that stuff!" Toadsworth warned.

As everyone was pondering about what to do, Peach looked over at a water cooler in the distance… where she spotted the same Mario-shaped figure she saw previously in the live-recording. She stared at it for a moment before trying to get everyone else's attention:

"Um, excuse me, but…"

Unfortunately, everyone was so distracted with the goop that no one heard Peach. Even worse, when Peach looked back at the water cooler, the Mario figure was gone.

"Peach, are you okay?" Mario asked, seeing the flummoxed look on Peach's face while staring off in the distance.

"Oh, I don't know, Mario…" Peach whispered. "I think this heat is getting to me already…"

Hearing this, Toadsworth quickly pushed Peach over to the shade under the Toad Express before addressing the others:

"I am most concerned with the well-being of the princess in this dreadful heat. Master Mario and the rest of you, if you would, cross over to that shore and find some assistance."

"Will do, Toadsworth!" Mario nodded, along with everyone else.

[BGM: Delfino Airstrip – Super Mario Sunshine]

"Hey, guys…" Peach called out. "Be careful! I have a bad feeling about this…"

"Don't worry, Princess. Everything's going to be just fine." Trifle assured. "We just need to get rid of this mess, and then we can enjoy our vacation!"

"If only this would turn out true…" Jewel and Melissa thought.

With that, the group proceeded to walk along the runway and around the goop, although Greninja couldn't help but notice that some roaming Piantas were giving Mario the stink eye.

"Why are they looking at him like this?" Greninja thought.

"Ugh, why am I melting already…?" Ann groaned, as the heat was starting to get to all of them.

"Damn… It's really hot in here!" Ryuji exclaimed, wiping off the sweat out of his forehead. "Way hotter than Hawaii!"

"I don't think it's that hot, honestly." Neri admitted.

"Good for you…" Incineroar groaned.

"Okay, that does it; we're putting on our swimsuits once we get to the hotel." Ann settled.

"You said it, Ann-chan…" Haru agreed, and then everyone noticed an object next to a pile of boxes as they all curiously walked up to it.

"Well, took you long enough for you to show up again!" a nearby yellow Pianta yelled angrily at Mario.

"Whoa! What's with that attitude?!" Mario flinched.

"Listen here," Makoto interfered, speaking sternly at the Pianta. "It's rude to talk to tourists with that attitude. Perhaps you might need some help."

"Help? Are you crazy? WE'RE the ones who need help, young lady!" the Pianta shot back before he pointed at Mario. "ESPECIALLY considering with what HE just did to our home!"

"M-Me?!" Mario jolted. "But I just came here! Alongside the ones with me!"

"Yeah, right!" the Pianta scoffed and rudely pushed Mario towards the object, making the others gasp by the way Mario is being treated by one of the island's locals. "Now take that water pump and clean the airstrip, you… YOU!" the Pianta then stormed away.

"…Wh-What has just gotten into these locals?!" Mario stuttered, starting to get paranoid. "I didn't do anything!"

"Hey, easy, Mario…" Jewel said, trying to calm him down.

"Uh, guys? That water pump thingy is moving!" Futaba pointed over to the water pump.

[BGM End]

This got everyone else's attention as they looked over at the water pump, which was indeed moving as it adjusted itself to look back directly at them. But what caught the group off guard was that the water pump also started talking:

"Power-up complete. Thank you for purchasing this item from Gadd Science, Incorporated. Preparing to register customer information. Scanning and classifying subject data… Subjects identified as Mario, Neri, Jewel, Melissa, Trifle, Toon Link, Red, Greninja, Incineroar, the Inklings, and the Phantom Thieves, residents of the Mushroom Kingdom, Pi'illo Kingdom, Star Realm, Hyrule, Kanto, Kalos, Alola, Inkopolis, and Japan respectively. Data storage complete. I am FLUDD – a Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device. I hope to be of assistance."

Everyone just stood there in silence to let all those words sink in, until Trifle broke the silence:

"…Okay, WOW. What did I just hear?"

"FLUDD just scanned all of us." Melissa replied. "That way, by collecting data, its AI would recognize us."

"This is how most robots behave!" Jewel winked.

Mario then approached FLUDD. "So… How exactly are you going to assist us?" he asked.

"I would like you to strap me onto you." FLUDD replied.

"Uh, alright." Mario nodded and strapped FLUDD onto him.

"You look great with that!" Neri chimed, as Mario chuckled in response.

"Proceeding with user instruction." FLUDD said.

Then, FLUDD gave Mario a little tutorial about how to use it, while the rest watched with interest. After that, the group proceeded to head back to the large mass of goop, until Toon Link noticed something printed on the water tanks.

"Hey… What's with this 'M' emblem on these things?" he asked, as Mario decided to clean them off.

"There, all taken care of." Mario said.

Upon reaching the area with the goop, Mario proceeded to spray water all over it to clean it off, while also cleaning up a buried Pianta in the process before going for the center, the goop Generator. Just then, a massive Proto Piranha burst out of the Generator while roaring loudly, as everyone in the airstrip freaked out by that.

[BGM: Paint Battle – Super Mario Sunshine]

"What the hell is that?!" Ryuji asked in shock.

"Some kind of messed up Piranha Plant or something!" Mario exclaimed.

Ren and his group then went into their Phantom Thief attires as they quickly brought out their weapons and started attacking the Proto Piranha along with the others, but to their surprise, it wasn't getting hurt at all, so Neri attempted to launch water at it, but it just shrugged it off due to its mouth being closed.

"It's not working!" Ren hollered. "We need a different strategy!"

It was then that Mario had the idea to spray water into the Proto Piranha's mouth, so he waited for it to open it and did so. When the water hit the Proto Piranha, it let out a shriek and wiggled about as everyone noticed that.

"Water hurts it?!" Futaba asked from inside her Persona, Necronomicon.

"In that case…" Red brought out Squirtle. "Squirtle! Use Water Gun!" Red commanded as Squirtle released a jet of water from his mouth towards the Proto Piranha's mouth, but it had it closed at that time and just shrugged it off. "Aww…"

"The mouth has to be open for it to work." Melissa told him, as Jewel took out her Water Sapphire and when the Proto Piranha opened its mouth, she quickly released a stream of water on its mouth, delivering the second blow of the match.

"Let me take care of it!" Inkling Girl said, and when the mouth opened again, she shot orange ink into it… only it didn't get hurt, as it just absorbed the ink. "What?!"

"Ink doesn't work?! That doesn't seem physically possible!" Inkling Boy exclaimed, and then Mario quickly used FLUDD one last time to end the match.

[BGM End]

Everyone watched the Proto Piranha screech loudly and shrivel up before sinking back into the Generator, and the ground suddenly began to shake as the depression on the runway rose back up into place. Afterwards, a Shine Sprite appeared in the middle, as everyone looked at it in awe.

"Whoa… What's that?" Toon Link asked.

"Ooooh! It's so shiny!" Morgana exclaimed, complete with gleaming eyes of excitement.

"And bright!" Ann added. "What is it?"

"Ah! That's a Shine Sprite!" the Pianta that was previously stuck in the goop beamed.

"A Shine whatsit?" Ryuji raised an eyebrow as Mario walked over to the Shine Sprite and took it.

"Huh… Interesting." he mused while examining it, as it reminded him of a Power Star from the previous adventure.

"Nice work, guys!" Peach praised, walking up to them along with the Toads and Toadsworth, who was more fixated on FLUDD on Mario's back.

"Mm, quite an unusual device… Is it some sort of pump?" Toadsworth guessed.

"I am FLUDD. Glad to meet you." FLUDD said.

"Hm? Everyone, we've got company." Greninja informed everyone while glancing back.

When everyone followed his gaze, they saw two Piantas dressed like cops suddenly coming in from the distance while stomping towards them like angry bulls.

"Hey, someone's coming!" a Toad pointed out the obvious.

The Pianta cops approached Mario, and upon close inspection, they nodded to each other… before cuffing him.

"Wha-… H-Hey! What's the big idea?!" Mario asked frantically while everyone else looked shocked.

"Mario! You are under arrest for the act of vandalism!" one of the cops said.

"I didn't DO anything!"

"SILENCE, you filthy criminal!" the other cop yelled. "You're coming with us to the courthouse!"

The others could do nothing but watch the cops drag Mario away, as they took him into a boat before driving away.

"No…" Peach whispered sadly. "This actually can't be happening…"

"True… It's like this whole vacation has turned upside-down!" Trifle remarked. "How could this happen?!"

"You took the words right out of my mouth!" Incineroar threw in. "Everything just went downhill fast!"

"…Okay, I need to get to the bottom of this." Makoto thought before pulling out her cell phone and calling someone.

"Hello?"

"Hey sis, it's me."

"Oh, hey. What can I do for you?"

"I want you to come over to where I am right now. A friend of ours is getting arrested by mistake, and we need you to take up as our defense lawyer."

"Sure, I can do that for you. Where exactly are you right now?"

"At Isle Delfino."

"Okay, I'll try to get over there as soon as possible."

"Alright, then." Makoto then ends the call. "I hope she can convince them that Mario is innocent…"

To be continued…

Hmm, now here's a question... For the trial, will I still stick with what the original game had, or will I turn things around? Find out next time! ;D

Trivia for this chapter:

1. In the game's Japanese version, there are audible lines of dialogue for Mario during the Delfino Airstrip cutscene. One of them is added into my story, but said by Yusuke ("It looks like a giant pool of paint."), and the other line is "Looks like Mario's gonna have to find a job.", soon followed up by Toadsworth remarking with, "Trying to start a new career?".
