A Scientific Match For Love

Gaster was working on some notes about some improvements he had noticed on an experiment when he heard a grunt and turned to find Alphys was trying to reach the top drawer on the filing cabinet to put a file away, but she wasn't tall enough. Taking pity, he went over to her. "Alphys, do you need help?" He asked gently.

"P-Please," she stuttered, her face flushing red in embarrassment.

The skeleton summoned two ghostly hands that picked the yellow dinosaur up, making her squeak in surprise. "It's alright," the skeleton said soothingly. "It's just my magic hands."

"Oh," she said in relief as she was now able to put the file away. "T-Thank y-you, G-Gaster."

"You're welcome," he said with a smile, going back over to his own work, watching Alphys out of the corner of his eye as she checked on her own experiments. He blushed as he looked at her.

He hadn't admitted it to anyone, but he had lately begun to realize that he liked Alphys, but he didn't dare to make any moves. One reason being he didn't know if Alphys would return his feelings and he didn't want to scare her off. She was so shy that he feared if he did say something, she'd most likely faint.

Though he certainly wouldn't mind her fainting in his arms, just not because he scared her. He sighed, going back to work, but watching her as well. Though the work she did was similar to his own, he couldn't help watching her and admiring her. He especially loved the way her tongue would stick out in-between her teeth with her mouth slightly open when she was deeply concentrating on her work. He smiled as he watched her, feeling his heart speed up as he did so.

Outside of the lab, Frisk was walking with Papyrus, dancing along the path and twirling around. Seeing this, the tall skeleton smiled and gently grabbed her outstretched hand when she twirled again, twirling her as a male dance partner would do with a female dance partner. The girl giggled as he did so before she kicked up one leg like a ballerina and he smiled, picking her up with one arm around her waist to hold her securely while his free hand supported her outstretched leg behind her knee, which allowed her back leg to stretch out gracefully too. "You're a good dancer, Frisk," he said.

She giggled. "I have a good dance partner," she said before looking at the lab. "Is that where your brother Gaster works?"

"Yes," he said with a smile. "Let's go see him."

They entered and security let them in without any fuss. Arriving at the lab, Papyrus knocked and the door was opened moments later by a ghostly hand that beckoned them in. They entered and Gaster smiled as he saw his brother and the child that they were so fond of enter the room. "Hello, you two," he said.

Frisk ran up to him and hugged him, to which he returned the hug with a smile before seeing her scamper off to hug Alphys, who jumped a little, but hugged the child too. "H-Hello, F-Frisk," she stuttered.

The child looked worried. "Alphys, are you okay?" She asked.

"Y-Yes, I'm f-fine," the dinosaur said.

"Alphys, darling," Mettaton said as he came out. "I don't mean to point out the obvious, but your stutter seems to be more prevalent than usual."

"Why is that?" Frisk asked in worry.

"Usually it's because Alphys is worried or stressed, but all has been well the past few days," the robot said.

"I've j-just b-been b-busy, t-that's all," Alphys said.

Papyrus grew a bit concerned at that. "Are you sure, Alphys?" He asked gently.

Gaster was a bit concerned too as to why the yellow dinosaur seemed to be stuttering more. Before he could move, Papyrus moved and hugged the yellow dinosaur. Frisk and Mettaton joined him and the skeleton scientist could see Alphys' stress seemed to be gone in a heartbeat. He was glad, but he still wondered why she had felt that way.

Frisk apparently was wondering too as she and Papyrus walked home later on. "Papyrus, I think I know why Alphys was stuttering like that," she said.

"You do?" The tall skeleton asked. "I admit it's been puzzling me."

"I saw her look at Gaster a couple of times and her face went red," the child said. "I've only seen that when Mom talks about Dad."

Knowing the child was referring to her goat mother and goat father, the skeleton fell into thought before he lit up. "Do you mean...does Alphys like my brother more than a friend?" He asked.

"And I think he likes her too," Frisk said.

Papyrus lit up like a Christmas tree. "Oh, goody!" He cheered. "I wonder if they've said anything to each other."

"I'll ask Gaster tonight."

That evening, when Gaster tucked Frisk into bed, she looked up at him. "Gaster, do you like Alphys?" She asked.

The tall skeleton nearly tripped over his own two feet when she asked him that. "What?" he asked.

"You like Alphys, right?"

Gaster took a moment to compose himself. "Yes, I do," he said. "She's a good worker and a good fellow scientist."

Frisk shook her head. "Do you like-like her?" She clarified.

He froze at that question, immediately getting at what the child was saying and a purple blush covered his face for a moment before he straightened up, his blush gone. "Are you being silly?" He asked with a smile, tickling her neck playfully and making her giggle. "Now, it's time for bed, little one."

She reached towards him and he hugged her, feeling her snuggle into his hug as he kissed her affectionately on the forehead. "Goodnight and sweet dreams, dear child," he said softly.

"Goodnight, Gaster. Love you," the child said cutely.

"I love you too, little one," he said with a smile before he felt her go limp in his arms as she fell asleep, to which he gently laid her back in her bed and tucked her in, brushing a gentle hand over her head in a caring manner, glad that she had come into his and his brothers' lives.

The next morning, Frisk woke up just as the sun was rising and she ran to Papyrus' room, going in and jumping on the bed, waking him up as he blinked his eyes and looked at her, seeing she was bright eyed. He smiled. "Good morning, Frisk," he said.

"Morning, Papyrus," she said happily. "Guess what?"

"What?"

Frisk looked around before leaning closer so that she could whisper in the tall skeleton's ear. "Gaster like-likes Alphys," she whispered.

Papyrus blinked. "You mean...as in he loves her? Truly loves her?" He asked.

The child nodded. "But I don't think he's told her," she whispered.

The tall skeleton smiled. "Then we must help him confess to her," he said. "How should we do it?"

Frisk grinned. "How about the restaurant at Mettaton's hotel?"

Grinning, the skeleton nodded and he got up and both got ready for the day, eager to put their plan into action.

Gaster was at the lab and surprisingly didn't see Alphys, but upon questioning some of his associates, learned that the dinosaur had gone to a lecture by a scientist she admired and he remembered her saying that she'd be back later. He got to work, hoping the time would pass quickly so that he could see her. He sighed. "I wish I could tell her," he said to himself.

Just then, the door opened and Frisk came running in. Surprised, Gaster caught her as she tripped and he looked to see Papyrus was there too. "Well, not that I don't mind a visit from you two, but what's the hurry?" He asked in amusement.

"Why, we just wanted to talk to you, dear brother," Papyrus said.

"About you and Alphys," Frisk said.

Gaster couldn't stop the blush that came to his face and the child giggled. "You like-like Alphys," she said.

He sighed before looking at the child with a chuckle. "And you are too observant," he said teasingly, playfully poking her sides to make her laugh. "But yes, I do like her."

"Have you told her?" Papyrus asked.

"No," Gaster admitted. "I...I'm worried I might scare her off."

"You should tell her," Frisk said. "And we know how you can do it."

"How?" He asked.

"We booked you a table at Mettaton's restaurant at his hotel," Papyrus explained. "It's a private table so that no one will disturb you."

Gaster froze at that. "Oh, I don't know," he said nervously.

"You should ask her out, Gaster," the child in his arms said. "You can do it."

"I'm sure she'll say 'yes', brother," Papyrus said.

Gaster swallowed before taking a deep breath. "Well, what's the worst that could happen?" He asked. "Alright, seeing as you two already provided the reservation, it would be a shame to waste it."

"We'll be right here and rooting for you," Frisk promised.

Papyrus nodded and the two quickly found a place to hide to watch, and just in time as Alphys can running in. "S-Sorry I'm l-late, G-Gaster," she stammered. "I got c-caught up in s-speaking to the g-guest s-speader."

"No worries, Alphys," Gaster said with a smile as he watched her set her things down. "Actually, Alphys, may I speak to you for a moment?"

The dinosaur froze. "Y-Yes?" She squeaked out.

He smiled again. "You've been working very hard lately in the lab," he said. "And the experiments are coming along nicely."

"T-Thank you," she said.

Gaster reached forward and gently took her hands. "Alphys, would you join me for dinner tonight?" He asked.

Alphys froze and looked at him in surprise before she swallowed hard. "A-As in a d-date?" She stammered out, looking very nervous now.

"Yes," he said patiently. "I've heard Mettaton's restaurant is a wonderful place to eat."

She still looked very nervous and he was worried she'd say 'no'. "Are you alright?" He asked.

"Y-Yes," she squeaked out. "Um, wh-what t-time?"

He blinked. "Pardon?"

"Seven o'clock," he heard Frisk whisper from somewhere behind him.

"Seven o'clock," he said, smiling. "We can meet up here and I can take you to the restaurant."

The yellow dinosaur swallowed hard before looking at him. "I...I'd l-like t-that, y-yes," she said.

Gaster felt a sigh of relief that she had accepted. "Then I will see you then," he promised.

The time came quickly and Gaster dressed in a white buttoned-up shirt and a pair of nice slacks and black shoes. He then picked up the red rose he had bought to give to Alphys and breathed in the aroma, imagining her in his arms. "I hope she enjoys herself," he said quietly before he left to the lab, arriving just before Alphys did.

Gaster felt his heart quicken at seeing the dinosaur in a lovely black dress that sparkled as she moved. He smiled. "You look beautiful, Alphys," he said, handing her the rose.

"Oh, t-thank you," she said, blushing.

"Are you ready?" He asked.

She nodded and he teleported them to the restaurant, where they were led to their table through a set of doors. Gaster saw that Papyrus and Frisk hadn't been kidding about being private. It even had a balcony that had a lovely view of the forest behind the hotel. Gaster pulled out Alphys' chair for her and gently pushed it back in as she sat down. "T-Thank you," she said gratefully, looking a bit surprised.

He chuckled. "I'm not just a scientist, my dear, but a gentleman too," he said as he sat down. They ordered their food as they were waiting, Gaster decided that he would tell Alphys how he felt after the food had arrived, so that they wouldn't be disturbed. Thankfully, their order arrived moments later. "Thank you," he said to the waiter. "And please be sure that no one disturbs us. I'll knock on the door when we are ready to head out."

"Of course, sir," the waiter said politely before heading out, closing the doors.

Seeing this, Gaster turned to look at Alphys, blushing. "Alphys, my dear, I have something to confess," he admitted.

She looked at him. "Yes?" She asked curiously.

He stood up and began approaching her. She stood up to meet him, but as he got closer, she noticed his eyes glowing and she swallowed hard, backing up a bit. "G-Gaster?" She asked softly, gasping as her back hit the wall gently. Seeing this, Gaster placed his hands on either side of her, not pinning her, but definitely making sure she wouldn't go anywhere.

"Alphys, lovely Alphys," he said, his eyes glowing more now. "I...I can't ignore it anymore." He looked at her. "I love you, Alphys."

She gasped, shocked before she swallowed. "Y-You l-love m-m-me?" She asked, her stammer becoming more pronounced. Just as she opened her mouth to speak again, Gaster gently cupped her face in his hands and kissed her right on the mouth.

Alphys jumped in shock before closing her eyes as she pressed her mouth against his, wondering if she was dreaming. He loved her? She hadn't thought he did, but she loved him too, having fallen for him some time ago, but hadn't been sure she should confess to him.

Now, she tilted her head up a little and shyly pressed her tongue against his mouth. Feeling her do that, Gaster opened his mouth, entangling his tongue with hers as he gave a pleased moan. Alphys shuddered a bit and leaned against him, to which he wrapped his arms around her. After a bit, they parted for air and Alphys' entire face was red as she looked at him.

"You...You really like me beyond a friend?" She asked softly.

He was surprised her stutter was gone, but he was glad as he took it to mean she wasn't nervous now. "Yes," he said before pulling her closer. "And now that I've confessed, I'm never letting you go, Alphys."

She blushed again. "Honestly...I don't want you to let me go," she admitted.

"Then I won't," he said, kissing her again, making her moan in pleasure before they sat down to their meal, eating it and enjoying each other's company with plenty of more kisses that made the dinosaur's head spin and Gaster's heard thud harder.

"I love you, my lovely dinosaur," he said. "Forever and ever."

She smiled. "I love you, my handsome scientist," she said, relaxed now. "Forever and ever."

She gasped as Gaster picked her up with his magic and brought her over so that she was sitting in his lap, leaning his face closer to his before he pulled her into another deep kiss, love surrounded them both.
