The Best Friend Squad was surprisingly not as busy as they normally were. There were no princesses to bring into the Rebellion, there have been no recent attacks on any villages recently, and there was not a Princess Alliance meeting today.
Adora and Bow lounged on Glimmer's bed that was perched high in the center of the room. Adora was bored and looked at Bow, who was flipping through pages of a magazine for technology. Glimmer startled them when she teleported into the room.
"Guys! I have finally convinced my mom to let us have the kitchen after dinner. What do you think we should make? Cookies or cake?" Glimmer teleported to the center of the bed. "This is going to be so fun!"
"Definitely cookies! Adora, you're going to love this!" Bow shook Adora.
"What are we doing?" Adora asked.
"We are using the kitchen for fun. There is nothing to do today so I figured that we could make something. I've never actually made anything but it can't be that hard." Glimmer folded her arms in front of her chest proudly.
Adora laughed and scratched the back of her head.
"Yeah, what's the worst that could happen?"
Later after that dinner.
The castle's alarms were going ballistic. Glimmer and Bow scrambled around the kitchen as Adora watched fire blaze out of the oven.
"I don't think it's supposed to do that." Adora pointed.
"Because it's not!" Bow screamed.
He broke into a glass case inside of a wall and grabbed a fire extinguisher. He ran back towards the stove and sprayed the white foam into the stove. When he was finished he sighed in defeat.
"Well. Too much for cookies." He said sadly, looking towards the ground.
"Guys! What am I supposed to tell my mom! This is terrible, she's never going to let us do anything ever again!" Glimmer began to freak out as she stared at the oven/stove that had turned pitch black.
Adora just laughed and waved her hands.
"Haha, it's fine! We'll just blame it on Kyle!" She then doubled over and laughed at the thought and wiped a tear from her laughter.
Glimmer and Bow looked at each other with raised eyebrows.
"Who?" Glimmer asked.
"What?" Bow asked at the same time as Glimmer.
Adora felt her whole body freeze and she looked at her friends. Her heart began to ache and her legs began to wobble.
Catra would have found that so funny.
The thought brought tears to her eyes and she took a step back towards the door. A lump jumped into her throat as her heart began to speed up.
"I-I should go. I'll see you guys in a l-little bit." Adora sprinted out the door.
"Adora, wait!" Glimmer yelled and tried to reach for her but Adora was too far gone.
"I think she needs some space." Bow put his hand on Glimmer's shoulder. "I wonder what made her react like that."
"Maybe this Kyle guy was a really close friend of hers. Like Catra was." Glimmer thought out loud.
"I don't know. I hope that she's alright though." Bow worried.
Adora raced down the hallway. Apologizing quickly after running into a couple of guards. Her tears fell fast as she sprinted towards her room.
As soon as she reached it she locked it. Adora put her back into the door and remembered a high-pitched laugh that always made her heart flutter. A memory came with it.
Catra and Adora sat next to each other in the Horde's cafeteria. Adora was about to eat her ration bar when Catra smushed her own into Adora's face and laughed.
"Oh? So you wanna play like that? Adora picked up hers and threw it at a laughing Catra, who easily dodged it.
The ration bar hit Kyle in the side of the face.
"Hey!" Kyle turned to Adora.
Adora awkwardly smiled and waved as a large guard strutted towards their table. Catra fell out of her seat in a laughing fit.
"What is going on here?" The guard stood above the Adora.
"I-uh." Adora stuttered.
"Kyle did it!" Catra pointed her finger at Kyle.
"What! I did not!" The blonde boy gasped.
"You're coming with me kid." He grabbed Kyle and pointed at Adora. "And you. Go get yourself another ration bar."
The guard dragged Kyle away and Catra busted out in even more laughter.
"Haha! You should have seen your face!" Catra laughed even harder and Adora smiled. "You were all like 'AH HELP ME! Bleh.'"
Catra 'reenacted' Adora 'dying'. Adora laughed and shoved Catra.
"I did not."
"Did so!"
Adora looked around her room. She then tucked her head into her knees and continued to sob. Her thoughts focused on Catra once again.
Three years later.
"I can't believe this!" Glimmer growled.
The newly formed Best Friend Squad was back on Etheria, searching for any surviving villages, civilians, or princesses. They just now stumbled into a broken down village.
"Everything is being destroyed! How does this even happen so quickly!" Glimmer began to rant.
"I bet it was Kyle's fault. What do you think, Adora?" Catra walked forward and laughed, before turning to the blonde in question.
Adora paused and her breath hitched. Bow and Glimmer stopped, remembering the last time the Kyle guy was mentioned. Adora's eyes widened. She then softened and began to laugh. Catra smiled until she saw the blonde wipe her tears from her eyes.
"Are you serious, Adora? Crying over a Kyle joke?" Catra poked her elbow into Adora's side. "Man, you have gone soft."
"No, no. That's not it." Adora laughed softly and wiped more tears from her eyes. "I just missed making those jokes with you. I just missed you."
Catra felt heat crawl up to her cheeks. Bow and Glimmer gasped slightly.
Of course it had to do with her. They both thought simultaneously.
Catra shoved Adora playfully.
"Stop! You're such an idiot!" Catra yelled and Adora laughed even more. Adora pulled her into a hug. Catra tried to fight her way out, but Adora had a strong grip on her.
Bow and Glimmer looked and smiled at each other knowingly. They were glad that Catra finally joined the team. Adora was truly beginning to be happy.
