A/N: Hi there! Welcome to my first RWBY fanfic. I've enjoyed so far many fics and stories on this site, and finally I've been able to publish my own story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing it.

This fic is inspired on a drawing by Notatrox, titled Dork Pyrrha and Champion Jaune. You can check on it on the author's tumblr or in Reddit.

"Hey girl, wake up! We've arrived."

Green eyes opened slowly, with no clue at all about where she had fallen asleep. Memories started to gather gradually on her mind. Earlier that morning, she had taken an airship from her hometown, Argus, to the city of Vale. After several hours of flight, she had finally reached the city, only to find that Beacon Academy, her final destination, was still one bullhead ride away. That had to be the place where she had been asleep, and as someone was informing her, they had finally made it to the academy. She blinked lazily to find in front of her a stunning blond girl with a playful smile on her face. There was another girl right beside her, wearing a black dress and a red cloak. Unlike the other one, she didn't look that confident, and she could see a shade of embarrassment in her silver eyes.

Oh no. Please don't tell her that her little problem had embarrassed her again.

"I snored loudly the whole trip, didn't I?" She asked, playing nervously with her crimson hair, tied up in a long ponytail which nearly reached her waist.

"Yeah, you did." The blond chuckled, winking at her.

"I'm sorry!" She said, but the two girls were already out of the airship.

Pyrrha Nikos stepped out of the bullhead, carrying a small hand bag, her sword in her waist and shield on her back. She gave a nervous gaze around the students gathering in the docks. They all looked so professional and prepared, with those bright armours and fancy combat skirts… Her attire was much more casual, consisting on a crimson loose t-shirt with her family emblem printed in the front, a pair of short jeans, black stockings, a leather belt and a pair of red and yellow snickers. Hardly difficult to remain unnoticed in that environment, where everybody looked like the heroes of those comics she used to read.

What was someone like she doing there in Beacon, the best academy in Remnant for hunters in training? She had no aura, no semblance, and she hadn't attended any combat school. The only training she had received took place long time ago, the few times her sister agreed to spar back when both of them were still living together in Mistral. The same sister whose transcripts she had used to apply to Beacon.

However, her mind was set, and she was determined to be a huntress. It had been due to her sister too, in some extent. Her semblance allowed her to foresight someone's future, and when Pyrrha asked about hers, she told her that she was destined to be a great huntress who would protect the world. That revelation made Pyrrha truly happy, but strangely enough, all her family members banned her from training in any academy or combat school. She felt that it was unfair, especially because her sister did study in a combat school and graduated from Haven as a huntress. And every time Pyrrha asked why she couldn't do the same as her sister, she was given the answer that her sister had chosen that path to protect her and ensure her well-being. She'd never liked that response, but she wasn't someone inclined to argue. Now she would prove her family that she could be able to look after herself, and that they didn't need to worry so much about her.

The sound of a nearby explosion coming from the main courtyard of the Academy brought her back to reality. She headed to the source of the noise, running into a quiet brunette girl who wore a bow on her head. She was reading a book while walking, and Pyrrha would have liked to praise that unusual ability, but first of all, she should ensure that nobody had been damaged on the explosion. She finally reached the place, to encounter there the same red cloak dressed little girl that she had met in the ship, lying in the ground, clearly upset.

"Welcome to Beacon" She could hear her muttering to herself.

The red-headed stepped close to where the girl was, holding out a hand towards her.

"Hello again! I'm Pyrrha."

"Ruby" She said, taking her hand while standing up. "Aren't you the girl that snored on the ship?"

"Yes…" She sighed, letting scape a nervous laugh. "I'm sorry."

"I bet you know a huge amount of people who snore while sleeping. It is a much more common problem than people let on!"

"Look, I'm sorry" Ruby chuckled. "Snoring girl was the first thing that came to my mind."

"I don't like it!" She complained. "How would you feel if someone called you Crater Face?"

"That explosion was an accident!" She pouted.

"I'm sorry…" Pyrrha apologized, feeling sad about making the young girl feeling uncomfortable. "What kind of friend am I, making up names like that."

"It's okay." Ruby looked back at her, offering her a bright smile. "And actually, I think you're an amazing friend. I'm really enjoying this little chat with you."

Instead of saying anything, Pyrrha gave her a shy smile, feeling her cheeks going red. She couldn't believe at all that she had made a friend even before the start of classes. 'That's something to be proud of!' She thought. However, they were now stuck in an uncomfortable silence.

Luckily, Ruby spoke for her.

"So… I got this thing!" She was grabbing something from her cloak, and the next second a huge red scythe was in the little girl's hand.

"Whoa!" She jumped, clearly not expecting that. "Is that a scythe?"

"It's also a customizable high-impact sniper rifle!" Pyrrha's expression was still clueless. "It's also a gun." She explained, smiling widely.

"Oh. That's cool!" She smiled, now understanding what she meant.

"So, what've you got?"

"Oh! I, uh… got this sword!" She said, unsheathing her sword out of the scabbard attached to her belt. Her nerves grew bigger as she saw how amazed Ruby looked while she was showing her weapons to her. "And here in my back I carry my shield too."

"Wow! So, what do they do?"

"It can turn into a spear!" She answered, timidly.

"Oh! Can I see it? Can I see it?"

"Of course." She held her weapons to her,

"Wow! It doesn't only turn into a spear, but it is also a riffle!" The young girl was amazed by that discovering. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I'm sorry…" To be honest, she has just discovered that feature of her weapon as well.

"Please, don't be! I'm kind of a dork too when it comes to weapons, soooo… I guess I did go a little overboard when designing it." She giggled.

"I'm sorry… But you made that by yourself?!"

"Of course! Back at Signal, all students forge their own weapons! Didn't you make yours?"

"Actually, it's a hand-me-down." She explained, while rubbing nervously the back of her neck. "These are the weapons my old sister used before graduating as a huntress in Haven. Now she has a cooler one. I suppose."

"There's nothing to be ashamed! Your weapon is cool enough to me! And I'm sure that you'll have a weapon that will make her jealous when we graduate!"

"Yeah, when we graduate…" She agreed, nervously.

"So, why'd you help me out back there? I mean, in the courtyard."

"Why not? We all came here to be hunters, and hunters are supposed to help people in trouble. And you know, you seemed to be in trouble back there."

"Wow, Pyrrha…" The young girl said in awe. "You're truly made 100% of huntress material!"

The spartan girl felt that her cheeks were redding again, feeling somehow embarrassed for that unexpected praise. Fortunately for her, her companion didn't notice, as she was looking around with a puzzled expression.

"Pyrrha… Do you know where are we going?"

"I'm sorry!"

After a 10 minute walk around the campus, they found their way to the auditorium, a giant room filled to the brim with people.

"Ruby!" Someone shouted the moment they stepped in. "Over here! I saved you a spot!"

"Oh! It's my sister!" The youngest girl said joyfully. "Let me introduce you to her!"

Ruby's sister was a tall girl with lilac eyes and long golden hair. She was wearing a brown leather jacket, a yellow crop top with a black emblem, an orange scarf a brown belt with a strange white piece of cloth, black shorts and a pair of brown boots that reached her knees.

"So, how's your first day going, little sister? I can see that you've made a friend. That's great! I'm Yang."

"She's Pyrrha." Ruby said, crossing her arms.

"Hello again!"

"I remember you from the ship! Hope you had a good nap, snoring girl!"

"Yeah." She said, rubbing the back of her neck. "I'm sorry…"

"Don't be! It was ok, don't worry. It wasn't like if you had thrown up in my new boots or something. I'd be really mad if you had done something like that."

"Oh, you mean since you ditched me and I exploded?"

"Yikes! Meltdown already?"

"No, I literally exploded a hole in front of the school! And there was some fire and I think some ice."

"Is she being sarcastic?" Yang asked Pyrrha, who shook her head in response.

"I tripped over some crabby girl's luggage, and then she yelled at me, and then I sneezed and then I exploded, and then she yelled at me again, and I felt really, really bad, and I just wanted her to stop yelling at me!"

"YOU!" Someone shouted behind them. They turned around to face a tiny girl, her pale blue eyes shining in anger. All in her was totally white, from her hair to her clothes, and she

"Oh, Gods, it's happening again!"

"You're lucky we weren't blown off the side of the cliff!"

"I'm sorry, Weiss! It was an accident!" Ruby argued, but the Weiss girl didn't listen to her. Instead, she took a pamphlet out of one of her pockets, and held it up to her. "What's this?"

Pyrrha wasn't able to understand a single word of the speech that followed. Something about injuries, dust, customers and schnees (Gods knew what was that, but it sounded terrible).

Luckily, Ruby looked as puzzled and horrified as she.

"You really wanna start making things up to me?"

"Absolutely?"

"Read this, and don't ever speak to me again." She handed the pamphlet to Ruby, and Pyrrha could finally read its title: DUST for dummies and other Inadequate Individuals. That could be definitely of use. She wondered if Weiss carried with her more pamphlets like that one. Maybe she could ask her later.

Unfortunately, she didn't have a chance to do it, because Yang stepped in, trying to save her sister.

"Look, uh, Weiss, it sounds like you two just got off on the wrong foot. Why don't you start over and try to be friends, okay?

"Yeah! Great idea, sis!" Ruby cried in joy. She held out her hand and cleared her throat. "Hello, Weiss! I'm Ruby, and those here are my sister Yang and my friend Pyrrha! Wanna hang out with us? Oh, we could go shopping for school supplies?"

"Yeah! And we can paint our nails and try on clothes and talk about cute boys!" The white haired girl suggested, still in a slightly mean tone.

"Sounds like a plan" Pyrrha whispered, smiling shyly.

"Wow, really?" Her friend's reaction was more enthusiastic.

Weiss held their gazes for a moment, breathing heavily. Finally, she spoke.

"No" She deadpanned.

Sadly, none of them could complain. The sound of a rasp cough interrupted their conversation and they quickly turned to the stage, where an middle-aged silver-headed man dressed in a dark green and black suit stood, both hands in his cane. Headmaster Ozpin. A blond young woman was standing on his left as well, dressed in a white shirt and black skirt and stockings, wielding a riding crop on her hands.

"I'll keep this brief." Ozpin began. "You have travelled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of people."

Ruby smiled at Pyrrha with an air of complicity when the Headmaster said those words.

"But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."

The Headmaster left, and the woman beside him stepped up to end the speech:

"That's Glynda Goodwitch." Some students whispered. "She's Ozpin right hand in Beacon, and the most strict professor around here."

Pyrrha didn't need to know more to agree with that statement.

"You will gather in the ballroom tonight. Tomorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed."

Pyrrha let out a sigh, relieved by the fact that it hadn't been too long. However, the Headmaster's words had truly intimidated her. Not to mention the extremely serious and frightening professor Goodwitch.

"He seemed kind of… off." Ruby's sister observed. "Was he like that when you met him, Rubes?"

"Nope. He was much more talkative and close when we met. He even offered me cookies! Not the best cookies I've had in my life, though."

"What?!" The white-haired girl screamed. "Did you just criticise Beacon's Headmaster?"

"Nope. Just his cookies."

Weiss started to yell again, but Pyrrha wasn't listening anymore. To be fair, someone else had caught her attention. It was a tall, blond and well-built boy, who just passed beside the girls, probably heading the changing rooms. He was wearing a white armour over a black t-shirt, blue trousers, black boots and a white cloak. His deep blue eyes wandered around the girls absently, giving them a polite smile. However, the red-headed seemed the only one to notice, as the other three girls were too busy in her argument.

'I'm sure he is a natural blond.' She thought, a silly smile growing in her face.

Omake:

Later that night:

Nobody woke up Weiss Schnee when she was sound asleep. As the heiress of the Schnee Dust Company, she needed at least eight hours of quiet rest and peaceful sleep. Moreover when the next day she would face that critical exam that she would pass with the best marks, rising as one of the most promising huntresses of the four kingdoms.

However, it seemed that there were people who couldn't understand the significance of the following day in their careers and lives. Not too far from her, a group of people were making noise in what seemed to be a slumber party. How childish and irresponsible. It was no surprise to find that the source of the noise was that Ruby girl, her sister and the brunette girl who had insulted her family name.

It was hard, but the three girls finally came to see reason and went to sleep. However, she wasn't going to take any more risks, so she gathered her belongings and stood up to find a new spot to sleep, as far as possible from those girls who had become an annoying pain on her head.

"You!" She said, addressing the red-headed girl she had met before in the auditorium. She had her sleeping bag on an isolated corner in the big hall. "Make some space for me! I'm going to sleep here!"

"Are you sure you want to stay here with me, Weiss?" Pyrrha asked her.

"Of course! What do you mean? Do you think that I'm not important enough to deserve your company?"

"No, of course not..." She answered, rubbing her neck nervously. "It's just that..."

"If there's no issue with me sleeping beside. you, I suggest that we cut the talk and head to sleep. Tomorrow's going to be a hard day, and we'd better take some rest."

"Okay... Good night, Weiss."

"Good night, Pyrrha."

The heiress closed her eyes and tried to find a good posture to rest the whole night. After all, she wasn't used to sleep in a sleeping bag the ground. She relaxed, bringing to her mind happy memories of her elder sister, her butler Klein, and other moments where she had proven to be an intelligent and mature young lady.

However all her thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a loud noise coming from her side, an unequivocal evidence

that the girl beside her was sound asleep.

'WHAT. THE. HELL.' Her eyes opened widely, surprised by the fact that someone could snore that loudly.

That was going to be a long night.

A/N: Poor Weiss, she didn't deserve that at all.

So we're done with the first chapter. Thanks to all of you who made it to this part, and I'm really looking forward to see your feedback. As I can't promise any scheduled updates because I've got a ton of essays and works to write, I'll try to close every chapter without any cliffhangers or something like that. There's nothing that pisses me off more than a non finished fic, even though I understand that sometimes it is impossible to keep it up. Even though, hope you guys enjoyed and see you soon.
