Eternity

. o .

Little angel, hell-sent fire
a timid dance, a dark desire
a soul that's lost to tear the skies
a woman's blood beneath it lies

a spell that's cast – heaven descends –
a fervent plea for swift amends
she knows she's lost – but so is he –
no whispers of serenity

comfort her here; without her wings
she cannot soar to greater things
and he remains, his strife the same
she rests below, her life his claim

A foreign thought; his eyes grow cold
her beauty fades, the Fates have told
for he knows that at his hand
her life shall end, at Her command…

The silence breaks, her friends draw near
he shakes his bonds, she sheathes her fear
the stage is set, both angels fall
…despite the soldier's anguished call

for puppets both have shed their ties
regret wells soft within green eyes
her time has passed; a ragged cry
does not halt the reaper's scythe

The deed is done, the orb cascades,
lost to sight amidst the waves;
eyes meet at last; no words are said
and yet he hears inside his head:

"I blame you not, fate's dealt its hand;
do what you must, while you yet stand.
For soon enough, you'll follow me
and then, we'll have eternity…"

SABRIEL'S SCRIBBLES: Consider this my tribute to what is probably one of the most emotional moments in video games (if you really can't figure out which one, you haven't read the poem), as well as an aftereffect of reading some good AerSeph fics… The first stanza had been dancing about in my head all morning; I just decided to sit down and do something with it.
