A/N: I do not own the song 'Bring me to Life' by Evanescence, it just inspired the whole friggin' story.

Gohan: Good, I hope you're going to fricken' fix things.

Cesna: You could say that.

Gohan: ... I would ask, but I guess I'll just read...

Cesna: Good, you finally learned your lesson. *is happy* And this is my first attempt at a songfic... Key word there being attempt!

Life. So fickle with who gets to keep it, and who doesn't. It seems to be the worse you are, the longer you live. Perhaps to give more time for final atonement. Either way, approximately one hundred and forty five million people die each day. Good and bad. And even more are born. What does it matter who dies, as long as there is someone born to replace them?

So what if an epidemic spreads over a country, eating away at their youth and destroying their population? Infants are being born at that very second to replace those that are gone. Those that are gone... So easily replaced? Hard to think that all of those that die, every single day, can contribute much. Can make a difference. Can cause so much pain...

Videl closed her eyes, standing tall, allowing the cold bitter wind of the mountains wash about her. So clean and purifying. A month ago it happened. Her life was turned upside down. She had spent ten years building her life up from the ashes that her deceased mother left.

He ruined it in three days.

Son Gohan...

*How can you see into my eyes? *Like open doors...

His eyes. So filled with pain. He wiped away her tears while he himself was fading away. He forced a smile. 'Videl..." He was dying. "Don't cry..."

*Leading you down into my core *Where I've become so numb.

She remembered the first time she spoke with him. He was seated by her on his first day, and shortly after, she went out on an assignment. When Videl came back, she found that he was giving her the strangest look, as if he had no idea who she was and why she left. Doing only what felt natural, she sneered at him as she took her seat. "What're you staring at, bookworm?"

He sneered right back. "Jerk."

*Without a soul *My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold *Until you find it there and lead it back home.

Erasa was the one who made them friends. Gohan and Videl had so much in common, it wasn't even funny. She had killed off all of her emotions, all of her humanity, then he came and stirred something inside of her she hadn't felt in years. Ten years, to be exact. Pain. Suffering. Suffering sustained while someone you love... Is being torn away from you.

*Wake me up. *Wake me up inside.

Videl opened her eyes, looking out about her. The grass underneath her feet was long and dry, and ended five feet in front of her at the edge of a cliff, overlooking a vast scenery of lush forest, filled to the brim with life and freedom.

*I can't wake up. *Wake me up inside. *Save me.

She walked up to the very edge, getting a better look at everything before her. So beautiful and out of reach. As is such with all things worth human appreciation. Her eyes closed again as another breeze started up.

Son Gohan...

*Call my name and save me from the dark. *Wake me up.

Sometimes... Sometimes it seemed he knew the pain she felt. That he could see into her soul. That only he truly understood her.

*Bid my blood to run. *Before I come undone.

Videl never really understood what it was like to be alive before. She almost felt so now, allowing the wind to sweep up around her, to cradle her, while her thoughts were on the lost man. It was almost like he was there with her, holding her heart. The only thing that would complete her right now... Was if he was physically there, holding her, telling her that he would be there with her always.

*Save me. *Save me from the nothing I've become.

But he wasn't. He would never be back. "Gohan..." Videl whispered, her words being lost to the air. "What have you done to me...?" Once again, her eyes open and she looks to the clouds, wind carrying away some stray tears that managed to fall.

*Now that I know what I'm without *You can't just leave me.

"GOHAN!" Videl cried out to the very heavens themselves, as if her weak voice could reach him from where he was. "WHY DID YOU DIE?! THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!!!...It wasn't... Supposed..." She fell to her knees, just more than an inch away from the edge of the cliff, furious tears coursing down her face.

*Breathe into me and make me real *Bring me to life.

Videl tried and failed to be simply sustained by his memory, and fantasies of memories that may have come. No, they would never replace him. As much as she tried, it wasn't enough...

*Wake me up inside

*Wake me up inside

She couldn't do it on her own. Living with a heart of stone was so easy... So easy before Gohan. The biting wind made the tears on her face like ice.

*Frozen inside without your touch *Without your love darling *Only you are the life among the dead

Son Gohan was the only thing worth living for. If only he were still here, if he had beaten that damned illness! How could he be so weak, how could he leave her like this?

*All this time I can't believe I couldn't see

*Kept in the dark *But you were there in front of me

Forest. That was all she could see, even through her tears that held her back. The wind broke down, and she rose shakily to her feet, preparing to head home. As she did so, she slipped on a bit of loose dirt, nearly falling headfirst into the abyss of green beneath her, but she caught her balance in time.

*I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems

*Got to open my eyes to everything

As wind swept through her hair, she could only stare down, down into the welcoming lush green of the tops of the trees. A thought came to her. "Gohan..." She laughed through her tears, and hope glinted in her eyes as she leaned over the edge of the cliff. "If you can no longer come to me..."

*Without a thought without a voice without a soul

*don't let me die here *There must be something more

"...Let me come to you..."

*Bring me to life....
