The three of them stood over the cot watching as its occupant slept on peacefully. Their parents had brought him home yesterday and today the boys had the chance to inspect their new family member with out an adult coming in to pick him up and coo at him.
'He looks kind of funny' said the middle child leaning into the cot a little more to have a closer look.
'All babies look like that when their born' said the eldest 'he'll look alright in a few days'.
The youngest who was standing on their parents bed and leaning over the crib quietly examined this new member of the family 'did the stork make a mistake?' he asked his older brothers.
'What do you mean' said the eldest.
'He's got a point' said the middle child 'he looks different to us, grandma always says how you and I look like dad, and how john looks so much like mum' he peered in the to the cot as if to double check his facts. 'But he doesn't look like any of us, maybe the stork did get confused'
'That's silly' said Scott, a few months ago he had been told were babies really do come from and knew there was no such thing as a stork. But his brothers did have a point he thought looking at the baby.
Suddenly the newborn began to stir and looked to be waking up 'we should go, if he begins to cry we might get into trouble for waking him' Scot said he picked up john from the bed and flowed Virgil out the room.
Maybe the hospital had made a mistake Scott thought as he looked back at the cot, after all how else did the blonde and brown haired siblings end up with a red haired little brother.
