Disclaimer: RENT is still not mine. Toby is. The general plot idea is sort of mine. Half-belongs to Aubrey too, I guess.

A/N: Another old-ish Benny/Maureen-ish fic. You will get a lot of this pairing from me. grins Since I forgot to say it before... feedback very much appreciated, thanks. Especially if I manage to get you to like the pairing.
Maureen's point of view. Her name's never mentioned. ...I have a thing with that.

-Babe-

Toby was the first person to call her babe. He pretty much stopped after the Freshman Year from Hell, but he'd still answer the phone with "Hey, babe" or "How's life, baby girl?" One of her best friends forever, the most amusing person she knew - her favorite gayboy. She never minded the name from him.

April called her babe shortly after moving in together, and never stopped. She never cared- April was like a big sister, and she loved all the affectionate nicknames they used, right down to babe.

And then there was Benny. He called her babe the first time the day she moved into the Loft. Mark has kind of scowled at him, and she didn't tell him not to call her that. She never stopped him. It just felt right.

Mark had tried to call her babe once, and she'd shook her head, laughing. "Don't call me that, sweetie," she'd said.

"April does," he'd replied, and, hesitantly, "Benny does."

She had shook her head again. "That's different." And it was. She couldn't explain it, it just... was.

So only three people called her babe- her gay best friend, her 'big sister', and her... what? Her Benny.

That's all they needed to know. She was his babe, he was her Benny.

They never questioned it, until it was too late.
