Here is one theory on why Ayame is pretty much left alone by Akito.

an: this takes place sometime between graduation from high school and when Ayame decided to open his shop.

Ayame Sohma sat on the wooden floor silvery head bowed waiting for Akito, head of the Sohma family, his god to acknowledge him. Light streamed into the room from an open window but failed to illuminate the dark corners or warm the room. He waited for several minutes before Akito spoke from the windowsill where Akito was leaning, surveying the gardens. "What brings you here this time?" Akito asked coldly, not bothering to look at him.

"Akito-sama I am here as you requested, I have started a new relationship and am faithfully reporting to you that there is the possibility that I could maybe eventually become seriously involved with this person." It was a well rehearsed speech. He had made it often enough, and some of the formalities had been omitted to save time.

'Please, get angry, be jealous, anything please'

"You are trying my patience. This is the fourth time you have come to tell me of a new prospective lover this week. Are you really so pathetic you are unable to keep someone's interest for more than a few days? Or are you merely a fickle slut?" Still not bothering to turn from the window, Akito held up a finger and a small bird flew to perch on it. Akito slowly rotated her hand studying the delicate creature.

"Perhaps I am just making an excuse to come and visit with the beautiful Akito-sama." He replied flirtatiously.

'Don't see it. Don't notice how close to the truth those words are. '

"Shallow flattery from you Ayame? I know you have resorted to dating men. I can barely stand the thought of you defiling my home with your presence." With a flick of her hand Akito sent the bird flying away, watching it go with narrowed eyes.

To that Ayame just shrugged, "I am a pragmatist, if I can't hold a woman due to the curse, then I will seek what comfort I can get in the arms of men. What I would prefer is immaterial. Do you wish me to limit the number of people I date?" He asks mildly.

"No, I am done with you Ayame. You need no longer report your trivial little affairs to me I grow bored with this. You are not allowed to reveal the curse to anyone, of course if you were to that person would be dealt with swiftly. Other than that do as you wish, see whoever, you wish. Don't bother me with it again."

'You know'

"Yes Akito-sama "

'The only way to truly hurt me is to turn your back on me like this.'

"Are you still here?"

'You don't care. You obsess over my brother Yuki, tease and torment Shigure and Kureno. You need Hatori near by to keep our secret, to keep you healthy, but for me, the one that worships you, wants to be near you the most, you don't care at all. I am nothing to you.'

He stood, bowed low and left wordlessly. Waiting till outside the main gate to reach up and wipe the moisture from under his amber eyes. "Well, that went better than I thought it would." He said to himself smoothing his robes in a nervous gesture.

After a few minutes of walking and composing himself he reached in his pocket for a cell phone and dialed it, "Shigure guess what. It took a lot of doing but my brilliant plan finally bore fruit. I actually dated around enough that it annoyed Akito-san into letting me keep my private life to myself from now on. Isn't that wonderful?"
