I love Steve, very much.

But sometimes I believe he is toostrict toGarfield. He tends to treat him like an adult, not that kids shouldn't have responsibilities too, but doesn't let Gar act like a normal kid. It is always the same thing. "Bedtime 9:00 sharp." every night. Garfield doesn't think that is fair, and I would have to agree.

Steve and I were going to send Gar to school, and I saw the displeasure on his face. We decided to let him travel with us. Mento and I decided that right now, Garfield wasn't really ready to go back to school. He was often in a depressed state, and never talked much. Garfield would never even smile, and spend most days alone in his room. But I could tell from the beginning that Gar was a good hearted person, with just a few troubles on his mind.

I felt very bad for Garfield, he definently hasn't been living the life of a normal kid. Having your parents die at age five must be terrible.

I told Steve about how I felt, and he disagreed.

"He's twelve years old, Rita." Mento put his hands on his hips.

I rolled my eyes. Another lecture.

"Exactly, Steve. You always tell him "9:00 sharp". Isn't that just a little too strict?"

"Garfield is growing up. If you let him stay up every night, do whatever he likes, he'll never learn to be a responsible adult." Mento added.

"But he hasn't really had time to be a kid. All of his life, Garfield has dealt with horrible, horrible things. I know, you know that nobody should have to go through what he did. He deserves to have fun for once, and not follow all of your strict rules!" I exclaimed.

'Uh-oh.' I thought to myself. I didn't want to get him angry.

"What? Is there something wrong with my rules?" he yelled.

"That's not what I meant, Steve!"

"Then what did you mean?"

It was then when Garfield walked into the room.

"I... I'm sorry! I didn't know I was breaking up your marriage." he said, looking at the floor.

"What?..." I asked.

"I know this is about me, and I don't want to ruin your relationship."

"Ruining it?" Steve questioned.

"Before I joined the Doom Patrol, you two were so happy... But now that I'm here..." Garfield said, his voice cracking.

I gasped, shocked that he would say that. Garfield was part of the team, now part of the Doom Patrol family.

"That could never be true... Where would you get an idea like that? " I said, putting my hand on his back.

"...Don't lie, it's fine. It would be better for the team if... I left."

Tears welled up in Garfield's eyes. He transformed into a green falcon, and dove off the ship.

"Please... Gar... Don't go." I said.

But it was too late.

I could only blame myself for this.
