I do not own Fruits Basket. This was a challenge fic inspired by Chloe from my Furuba forum and taken from a piece of fanart I drew a month or two ago. Hope you enjoy it!
Have a nice day,
Hana
"Oh, I don't know about that, Yuki-kun," Tohru said, eyes wide, "I've never played this before, and you and Kyou-kun are on such a difficult level…" she trailed off uncertainly.
"Don't worry, Honda-san," Yuki said evenly, smiling, "There's only one round left."
"Then why don't you just play, ratboy?" Kyou growled, glaring, "Don't chicken out and make Tohru play for you!"
Tohru glanced quickly back and forth between the two of them, then slowly stepped up onto the DDR platform. She hesitated for a moment, then nodded to Kyou.
"Tohru, you don't have to play."
"But then the tokens will have gone to waste for nothing," she said worriedly, then took on her determined look and said, "How hard can this be, anyway?"
Kyou looked at her for a minute, started to say something, then cut himself off and sighed, motioning toward the buttons. "You choose."
Tohru bit her lip and searched through the songs for a while. Finally she found a song she liked, and with such an adorable name that she had to choose it!
Yuki snickered behind his hand, struggling not to laugh at Kyou's expression.
"Love Love Sugar?" Kyou asked, incredulous, "Love Love Sugar?"
Tohru pressed the button, smiling certainly. This sounded like a good song.
Arrows flitted across the screen, flashing and pulsing with the beat. Tohru's mind cleared. Her feet didn't smash the machine, like Kyou's -- he was nearly failing, though maybe that was because he was covering his eyes and ears -- but she tapped them firmly, spinning and laughing in delight.
Yuki gaped.
"Yuki-kun, Kyou-kun, this is so much fun!" Tohru squealed, laughing again and firing off rapid half steps with ease. A crowd started to gather, cheering her on, but Tohru didn't notice them -- lucky for her, I'm sure, how embarrassing would that have been? -- she only did a finishing bow and started applauding Kyou, who'd smashed his side of the machine so badly that the plastic had splintered.
"Kyou-kun, you got a triple A with a little star! Isn't it wonderful?"
Kyou glared at her and she looked down, crestfallen.
"Honda-san, don't mind him," Yuki said slowly, "You won."
Tohru's head snapped up, startled. "But, Yuki-kun, I got an E."
"No, Honda-san, you got a perfect score. Kyou's the one who got an E," a slow smile spread across his face, "Stupid cat…"
Tohru turned back to look at Yuki and saw the vast crowd surrounding the DDR. Her eyes bugged out of her head and she blushed an astonishing shade of red, stumbled backward, tripped off the platform, slammed her head against the screen, and fell down on the floor in one, fluid movement, only to be mobbed by the crowd. Two identical screams sliced through the air.
"Yes, sir," Yuki said, struggling to stay calm, "I promise we'll pay for all the damage. And the medical bills. We have a doctor coming right now, and our guardian's already called 911. Could you please let us out of here?"
"Don't worry, ratboy," Kyou said in a low voice, scanning their surroundings, "This claw machine thing can't be all that tough to smash!"
