A/N: This story was written in response to the story challenge over at the Yahoo! Group, Magical Shire Fan Fiction. This story is meant to be purely fun. It seems a bit short, but it was meant to be that way. As always, I own nothing related to Lord of the Rings. This little story idea is mine, but that's all I can claim. And also, as always, this story will contain absolutely no slashy content.
I hope you enjoy:-)
Ghostly Encounters
"Pippin, are you sure this is going to work?" Merry asked me for what seem like the hundredth time.
"Yes, Merry, I'm sure." I tried not to sound annoyed; I couldn't have him walking away from this. I needed his help. I shifted my pack so it rested more tightly against my back. It's contents: a white sheet, and some food, of course.
We had ridden ponies from Brandy Hall until we reached Hobbiton, where we stabled them and began our treck to Bag End. After all, we couldn't have our dear cousin hear us coming, could we? No, we'd be more quiet if we were on foot.
Upon finally reaching Bag End, we tried the door but it was locked. It was good luck for us that it was particularly hot this night; Frodo had left his bedroom window open.
We took the sheets out of our packs and threw them over our heads, making sure we concealedas muchof our bodies as we possibly could. We then snuck inside, trying to remain quiet until the perfect moment.
Positioning ourselves on either side of his bed, we began making scary sounds to wake him up.As soon as he began to stir, we quieted down. When he opened his eyes and saw he was not alone, he gave a slight start.Upon realizing it was two 'ghosts' in the room, he cast fearful eyes at the window. His fear only lasted for a moment, however, before he calmed down.
I took one nervous glance at Merry before I started to make moaning sounds andproceeded to glideabout the room. Merry followed suit. We did that for a couple minutes while Frodo seemed to remain calm. Finally we stopped and simply started at him. He smiled at us.
"Hullo, Merry," Merry pulled his sheet off his head upon mention of his name.
"Hullo, Pippin,"I pulled the sheet off my head.
"How did you know it was us?" I asked him accusingly, trying to keep the curiosity out of my voice.
He shrugged, still grinning. "Who else would it have been?"
