Disclaimer: I don't own Kingdom Hearts. The two italicized quotesare taken from Sora's story in Chain of Memories.
Kairi had leapt into his arms, and Sora had embraced her with a smile on his face, happily leaving behind his broken replacement. Bright blue eyes watched the Princess of Heart and her Key-bearing knight walk off hand-in-hand across the sands, into the sunset of their long-awaited happily ever after.
Did she ever mean something to him? Didn't anything she had done to make him happy affect him? She always felt the discontent radiating from him as they held hands, hugged, or did anything else remotely intimate.
Or maybe she never had a real place in his heart. Maybe he was only nice to her because she resembled Kairi.
Yet that made no sense either. She acted nothing like the redhead. Kairi was a socialite; she preferred peace and quiet. Kairi spoke her mind whenever she could, while it was rare to hear her say a word unless she'd been directly addressed.
She knew that this was going to happen, but it didn't ease the pain. She was just a replacement Kairi to him. And apparently, she wasn't even good enough for that, since he was able to toss her aside so easily.
For a wild, reckless moment, all she could think of was wrapping her hands around Kairi's slender neck and squeezing, squeezing the life out of her, so she would be the only Kairi Sora could run to, the only Kairi he would look at as if she was the center of his world.
But as she took that first step to making all her dreams come true, her courage failed her. She slumped to the warm sands, hair spilling over her eyes, as her quiet sobs shattered the serene silence.
"One day it'll be our light, the light that brings us together. I'll be in your heart until that time comes."
"I know. Forgotten, but not lost."
Lies, all lies. She had been forgotten long ago. And now she was lost as well.
She wasn't his light. She wasn't the one he loved. She wasn't Kairi. She had never been Kairi and she never would be.
She was only Naminé, a Nobody, a light lost in the darkness of Sora's heart…
If it had ever been there to begin with.
