A/N - Guys! It's been so long! This board is waaay too unresponsive for me, so, I decided to post this stupid and short one-shot, just to liven things up . .
"Get away from me!" she shrieked, holding out her hands as though to guard herself from him.
"Look, I didn't mean for it to turn out this way!" he pleaded, trying to grab her arm and tug her to him but failing miserably as she backed away from him. "You know I wouldn't have done it if I knew this would happen."
She screamed quietly and stepped toward him. She glared at him for a moment, and he glared right back. Then, suddenly, a searing pain spread across his face. She had slapped him, hard, on the cheek. He hadn't even seen her move, she'd gone so fast. He held his cheek in pain.
"Look at me!" she cried, and he saw with astonishment that there were tears of fury in her eyes. "Look at my face! I can't believe you told them to do this to me!" He stared at her in confusion.
"What are you talking about?" There was nothing wrong with her face. "I thought you were talking about the project!"
She raised an eyebrow in surprise. "I don't give a damn about the project," she half-shouted. "It's this . . This travesty that I'm pissed about. The project was nothing. I may be perfect, but I'm okay with failing once in a while."
"But – but I purposely messed it up!" he said, remembering the presentation he'd destroyed with a match to the posterboard. "I thought you'd be pissed about that . . . I burnt that beautiful poster that you made." He grimaced inside. He'd used the word beautiful in relation to her. He did it all the time, of course, but only in his head. He didn't want her to think that he . . Liked her or anything.
"The poster didn't mean anything to me . . . . Wait a second." Her expression changed from one of fury to an almost-seductive smile in about two seconds. "Did you say my poster was beautiful?" He blushed. He felt his face and neck burn and he avoided looking in her eyes. It was amazing how fast her mood changed.
"I – I . . . There's nothing wrong with your face. Your face is fine. It's no uglier than it normally is." he didn't mean to say it, but he had to get her thoughts away from his slip-up. He was once again impressed at the speed of her changing emotions.
"How dare you! You narrow-minded, two faced, condescending, self-absorbed jackass!" He didn't flinch as she insulted him. He'd heard it all before, of course. He saw her preparing to hit him again, and he grinned in spite of himself.
She raised her hand again but he grabbed her wrist just in time and spun her around. It was a quick motion; fluently, he pushed her up against the line of lockers in the hall.
"You should take your make-up off more often, Tink," he whispered, pressing her firmly but gently into the wall. "It's not a travesty, not at all."
"You always drive me crazy, Jones," she said, her voice very gentle.
"You're prettier without your make-up. You're beautiful."
She would have given a flippant reply, but he stopped her with his lips.
"Finally!" a voice called from down the hall. "Took you guys long enough." Katie shook her head and went back into class.
NOTE - This post means that I AM BACK! I REPEAT I AM BACK! The next chapter of A Change of Heart should be up really soon. I am sooooo sorry that I've been gone for so long . . leaving unfinished stories. Please forgive me. I love you all!
